Why Camera Control is Better Than You Think! _ Everything New!

whether you're double tapping or single tapping or actually pressing down so there's a lot of things that it has to deal with and the first two options are probably the easier option that case manufacturers took and the cheapest route the first one is going to be this one that I see by mof but it's basically where they cut out and remove that entire section of the case to give you an opening in order to actually press that button and be able to have full contact with that button and have nothing kind of getting in the way so i've seen a lot of case manufacturers do this mof is one paka is one nomad does that same thing in some of its cases and some manufacturers even have both of the options like the second one that I'm going to show you which is by Nomad and this one is actually more of a pill cutout that goes around the actual button itself so it doesn't cut out an entire section to the side it just kind of has a pill cutout and it kind of goes in in order for you to be able to feel where it is and be able to interact with it now in terms of these two my favorite is actually the complete cut out of it because it does allow you to get more access to it and it doesn't get in the way but my absolute favorite one has been companies that have actually tried to put glass over it completely to make it sit flush and not have this weird situation where a whole section is missing or there's a pill cut out but i'm sure that is very difficult but span actually came out with their case and i've been trying it and i absolutely love it i know that apple has her own first party cases it also has sapphire glass or sapphire crystal on top of it but i think those are $60 this one by span is the same thing it also has glass it works perfectly it's worked 100% of the time and knows exactly what i'm trying to do and it's i think only 28 dollars or $29 on Amazon and it's very protective so those are your options when it comes to case manufacturers you have the complete cutout of the side you have the pill cutout which goes around it and then finally you have case manufacturers putting something over it making it sit flush where it still works with all these different gestures and pressure sensitivities that the capture button does need but as of right now that's all you can do with the capture button or the camera control button again there's so many different names and apple doesn't even want you to refer to it as a button per say because it's a lot more than that supposedly but i actually really like it i see myself using it a lot more if anything at a minimum what i've been using it for is just to launch the camera app that much quicker as whereas before i would have to go to the lock screen or swipe to the left or even actually hold down and press the camera button on the actual lock screen itself this is a lot more tactile a lot easier and you know where it is every single time even if it is in your pocket and you're not looking at it so at a minimum it's made it much easier for me to open my camera application and then in terms of how i've been using it maybe not as much or as much as ample would want me to i do use it from time to time to switch between different focal lengths on my camera but outside of that i have really been messing with it too much i am excited for photo intelligence to be coming out on the iOS 18.1 update hopefully and then also that half press to autofocus i think is going to be key especially for people that use their iPhones for video but that'll do it everybody if you did enjoy this video please leave a little dolphin in the comments down below so i know you made it to the end of this video and then also let me know in the comment down below if you've been using the capture button or the camera control button how have you been using it do you use it with third party applications do you use it just with a camera application have you found other cool ways to kind of fit it into your workflow let me know in the comment down below and lastly let me know if this is a nice feature to have or if this is more of a gimmick and let me know what you think about that but until next time i'm Fernando and uh Happy capturing everybody peace yes

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso last year Apple gave us a brand new action button in the iPhone 15 pro and pro Max and then now this year they actually gave us a button on the entire iPhone 16 lineup called camera control and in this video what I want to do is talk a little bit about it how it's currently being used what else you can do with it in the settings menu what you will be able to do with it hopefully moving forward with apple intelligence and finally how case manufacturers are now dealing with this brand new button because even though it is a physical button which we'll go over in a bit it also has some haptics to it some touch controls kind of has a touch ID or trackpad feel to it so it's kind of a unique situation for case manufacturers to deal with so without further Ado let's talk about camera control and everything that you can do with it let's get into it so as I mentioned what's nice and unique about this year in this camera control button is that the entire iPhone 16 lineup is getting it whether you spend $800 on a baseline iPhone 16 or fully maxed out an iPhone 16 Pro Max and as of right now there's no differentiation in terms of what you can do with it but in terms of what it can do out of the box and what it's predetermined to do is open up the camera application no matter where you are on your iPhone whether you're on the lock screen whether you're on the home screen whether you're inside of another application it's going to open up the camera to be able to be used right away so keep in mind that this is going to be a very camera focused button versus the action button had a lot more leeway in terms of what it can actually do but after you press the camera control button and it opens up the camera application you start to realize what it can do because yes it is a physical Button as you can see right here like you can press it in to press it all the way down and it moves but it's also a touch sensitive surface very similar to how the trackpad works so after you press it down you open up the camera and then you kind of half press it down which is more of a touch sensitive situation and it brings up the native menu so out of the box it's going to let you zoom in between the0 five Zoom so the ultra wide lens the regular wide lens then it crops into that 2x Optical and I do Optical because it's technically inside that same 1X zoom and then finally you get the 5x optical zoom that you can move in between and then with 18.1 which I'm on beta it'll also let you move to the selfie camera but with iOS 18.0 you cannot do that quite yet and then there's also a second functionality which is to open up a more broader menu to go in between things like Zoom portrait mode and all the other different camera settings that we normally get in the camera application and it's kind of a soft double press so you're not pushing it all the way down you're doing a soft double press which I actually got used to it very quickly I don't know it's kind of intuitive and it's very familiar after you do it a couple times but you scroll through there and you get a couple options like being able to change exposure then depth of field you also have the ability to zoom in like I mentioned so it's a traditional Zoom you have the original default one which is picking which camera you want to choose then you also have your different photo Styles and then finally choosing your tone so if you tap on there you can move your tone around in real time to be able to use your camera and then as you notice when you start to use the camera control button inside of the camera application the rest of the camera UI completely goes away because it wants you to focus on using this new camera control feature so it removes all the traditional features that were normally kind of on that bottom third of the camera camera application and moves it over to that camera control area and another little kind of Easter egg or little snippet is that you can actually pull up the camera control with the button and then go through the menus but then you can swipe on the screen if you want to kind of manipulate your settings on the camera control kind of section but on the screen so keep that in mind if that's something that you weren't aware of and then finally the last thing that it does out of the box is that when you actually depress it all the way down inside the camera application it's going to actually snap that photo for you and again I don't I'm not sure if I fully like it more so than than the touch sensitive button or the actual onscreen controls especially if you're one- handing this thing and you press it down you kind of like move your entire hand Apple does a great job with iOS in terms of shutter speed to make sure it kind of mitigates that situation but sometimes every now and then when I press it especially with one hand it kind of shakes my iPhone and I don't get the optimal image that I want now if you hold it horizontally and you hold it in landscape mode and you press down you can stay a little bit more rigid with it but even then the button is a little bit kind of out of the way awkwardly so again the button placement isn't my favorite but it does work out and I've actually gotten very used to using the button to pull up my camera application no matter where I am in my iPhone so I got very used to it to the point I've actually removed my camera shortcut from my lock screen and replaced it fully with this capture button or this camera control button that Apple's touting so as I mentioned that's what you can do out of the box and that's what it's going to be equipped to do right when you open up your brand new iPhone 16 but there's actually a couple things in the settings that I want to go over and I'm going to pull the iPhone right now so we actually got a camera control dedicated setting inside the camera setting section so if we go into our settings and open up the camera and then go to where it says camera control which is going to be the first option in there tap on there you have the ability to now change what it actually does so the first one is going to be the clean preview which is Light press the camera control to quickly make adjustments double Light press to select the control so we can actually toggle that off and on and then you have the ability to change if it's a single click or a double click in order to pull up the camera no matter where you are now Apple is very smart about this in terms of whether you're on the lock screen or whether it's on the home screen and I actually think it's actually looking to see if you're actually looking at the iPhone because I've noticed that when I tap on the camera control by accident or if it's on the lock screen It'll ask me to hold it down or it'll ask me to press it again to actually open up the camera app and same thing goes when I'm already on the unlocked position but I'm not really looking at it or not interacting with it it won't just automatically open up the actual camera application It'll ask me again to press it one more time so I kind of like how Apple does that I don't know what Wizardry they're using but it's a nice little feature and then again out of the box there's a couple things you can kind of set this to so so obviously you can open up your camera app you can also open up a code scanner which is interesting you can open up Instagram of all things you can open up the magnifier and then finally you can actually make it do nothing at all if you just kind of want to forget about that button totally so keep that in mind in terms of what you can do with it in terms of customizing exactly what it can do and there are other applications like Snapchat and I think even the Hali that can actually be used to open it up automatically so if you have like a photo Focus or camera focused application you might be able to open it up and you'll know if you open up the setting which I'm showing you right now and now in terms of what it will be able to do with apple intelligence supposedly it's going to be acting like a photo intelligence button so the idea here would be to press that button the capture button and then point it at an object or a person or a dog an animal and then Apple intelligence be able to then dictate exactly what it is so Apple had a nice little preview of this during their glow Time Event like putting it at a poster and getting all the time information and location data and things of that nature so being able to use apple intelligence and using that capture button to bring it up automatically is something that Apple will be giving us hopefully soon and then secondly Apple did promise that it's going to have kind of this autofocus feature very similar to how more traditional cameras work so normally with an actual camera with your shutter button if you do half press it down it'll actually start to autofocus on whatever subject you wanted to focus on and that half press kind of use case will be coming to the iPhone we just don't know when it's coming so photo intelligence and then that half press to autofocus is something that should be coming to iPhones and it should also work if you are in the middle of maybe a video recording to change your Zoom profiles and your focus profiles and now lastly I do want to have a quick little section on how case manufacturers are dealing with this because each one of them is doing something a little bit different and I'm going to show off what the three main cases have been so so far in terms of how they're attacking how to use this thing because like I said it's an actual button that gets pressed down but then it also has to deal with haptics and feel the actual force is being pushed down with and whether you're double tapping or single tapping or actually pressing down so there's a lot of things that it has to deal with and the first two options is probably the easier option that case manufacturers took and the cheapest route the first one is going to be this one that I see by mof but it's basically where they cut out and remove that entire section of the case to give you an opening in order to actually press that button and be able to have full contact with that button and have nothing kind of getting in the way so I've seen a lot of case manufacturers do this mof is one Paka is one Nomad does that same thing in some of its cases and some manufacturers even have both of the options like the second one that I'm going to show you which is by Nomad and this one is actually more of a pill cutout that goes around the actual button itself so it doesn't cut out an entire section to the side it just kind of has a pill cut out and it kind of goes in in order for you to be able to feel where it is and be able to interact with it now in terms of these two my favorite is actually the complete cut out of it because it does allow you to get more access to it and it doesn't get in the way but my absolute favorite one has been companies that have actually tried to put glass over it completely to make it sit flush and not have this weird situation where a whole section is missing or there's a pill cut out but I'm sure that is very difficult but span actually came out with their case and I've been trying it and I absolutely love it I know that Apple has her own first party cases it also has sapphire glass or sapphire crystal on top of it but I think those are $60 this one by span is the same thing it also has glass it works perfectly it's worked 100% of the time and knows exactly what I'm trying to do and it's I think only 28 8 or $29 on Amazon and it's very protective so those are your options when it comes to case manufacturers you have the complete cutout of the side you have the pill cutout which goes around it and then finally you have case manufacturers putting something over it making it sit flush where it still works with all these different gestures and pressure sensitivities that the capture button does need but as of right now that's all you can do with the capture button or the camera control button again there's so many different names and apple doesn't even want you to refer to it as a button per say because it's a lot more than that supposedly but I actually really like it I see myself using it a lot more if anything at a minimum what I've been using it for is just to launch the camera app that much quicker as whereas before I would have to go to the lock screen or swipe to the left or even actually hold down and press the camera button on the actual lock screen itself this is a lot more tactile a lot easier and you know where it is every single time even if it is in your pocket and you're not looking at it so at a minimum it's made it much easier for me to open my camera application and then in terms of how I've been using it maybe not as much or as much as ample would want me to I do use it from time to time to switch between different focal lengths on my camera but outside of that I have really been messing with it too much I am excited for photo intelligence to be coming out on the iOS 18.1 update hopefully and then also that half press to autofocus I think is going to be key especially for people that use their iPhones for video but that'll do it everybody if you did enjoy this video please leave a little dolphin in the comments down below so I know you made it to the end of this video and then also let me know in the comment down below if you've been using the capture button or the camera control button how have you been using it do you use it with third party applications do you use it just with a camera application have you found other cool ways to kind of fit it into your workflow let me know in the comment down below and lastly let me know if this is a nice feature to have or if this is more of a gimmick and let me know what you think about that but that'll do it everybody if you want to watch more videos like this one YouTube thinks you're going to like this video right here and I think you're going to like this video down here but until next time I'm Fernando and uh Happy capturing everybody peace yes I have two apple watches onso last year Apple gave us a brand new action button in the iPhone 15 pro and pro Max
