D3Live: BlackBerry Bold Touch and Torch 9810

The BlackBerry Bold Touch and BlackBerry Torch 2: A New Era for BlackBerry?

Today on D3Live, we're excited to talk about the two brand new leaked BlackBerrys that are set to shake up the smartphone world. The BlackBerry Bold Touch and the BlackBerry Torch 2 may not be the most significant upgrades from their predecessors, but they do come with some notable improvements.

The first device to get our attention is the BlackBerry Bold Touch. As its name suggests, this phone boasts a touchscreen display, which is a departure from the classic keyboard design of its predecessor. However, don't worry; the new Bold still features an excellent physical keyboard that's sure to please fans of the brand. The 2.8-inch multitouch display may seem small compared to modern smartphones, but it's more than enough for most tasks.

The screen's resolution is impressive at 640x480, and paired with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor and 768MB of RAM, we can expect smooth performance from this device. The BlackBerry OS 6.1 should run seamlessly on the Bold Touch, making it an attractive option for those looking for a reliable phone.

On the other hand, the BlackBerry Torch 2 is more of a incremental update than a groundbreaking new device. It boasts a larger 3.7-inch display with a higher resolution of 480x800, which should provide a better viewing experience. However, what sets it apart from its predecessor is the improved specs, including the same 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor and 768MB of RAM.

While these updates are welcome, many fans will be eager to see BlackBerry take the next step with their operating system. The brand has been working on a new QNX operating system for the PlayBook, which eventually makes its way to smartphones. It's unclear when this can be expected, but it's sure to bring significant improvements to the user experience.

The question on everyone's mind is: what about the pricing? According to leaked rumors, the BlackBerry Bold Touch will likely cost around $200 on contract. Is it too little, too late? As someone who hasn't been a huge fan of BlackBerry in the past, I think these phones are a great step forward for the brand. However, I do believe that it's still early days for BlackBerry to make a significant comeback.

In my opinion, the BlackBerry Bold Touch and Torch 2 are nice updates, but they won't be enough to bring back the masses. The brand needs to continue working on its new operating system to regain its footing in the market. Still, with these devices, we can expect a decent user experience, and that's something to get excited about.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enToday on D3Live we're going to be talkingabout the two brand new leakedBlackBerrys, the BlackBerry Bold Touch andthe BlackBerry Torch 2.Now both of these devices are going to bea pretty incremental upgrade fromthe previous generation of BlackBerrys isthat both sport touchscreen displays. Now of course this is nothing new for theTorch, that was going to be the bignext new BlackBerry, didn't really quite turnout too well however both of thesedevices have pretty big upgrades so I'm goingto go ahead talk a little bit aboutwhat we know about them so far. So the firstone is going to be the Bold Touchwhich in my opinion is probably going to bethe flagship of the BlackBerry line.So of course everyone knows and loves theBlackBerry Bold, it's just got agreat keyboard, pretty much great across theboard. However, as the nameimplies the new Bold is going to have a touchscreendisplay. Now don't fearit's still going to have the same, well itmight be a little bit tweaked but it's goingto have still a very very good physical keyboardbut in addition it's going to havea 2.8 inch multitouch display. Now while 2.8inches is definitely on the smallerside, generally touchscreen displays needto be a little bit bigger for room todo all of your multitouch gestures and allof that kind of good stuff, the BlackBerryis going to be pretty good I think overall. Now the screen like I said is goingto be 2.8 inches, it's going to have a resolutionof 640x480, very high resolution for likeI saida pretty small display but where the realthings are really going to start happeningit's going to have a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processorand 768MB of RAM.So what this means is that BlackBerry OS 6.1is going to absolutely scream onthis as well as on the Torch. So of courseBlackBerry, obviously BlackBerrytends to be a little bit of a lightweightoperating system, not really needing thedual core Tegra processors and all of thatkind of stuff so I think a 1.2GHz processorwill be more than enough to make this thingabsolutely fly. So the Bold Touch, that looks really quite good and also let'sgo ahead and talk a little bit about theTorch 2. So just like the Bold it's goingto be a fairly small upgrade, it's notgoing to anything major, it will have a 3.7inch display with a resolution of 480x800which is a nice upgrade. But where the mostof the big things happened with theTorch is with the specs. A lot of people kindof complained about the BlackBerryTorch, the original one was because it justdidn't have a whole lot of power, youknow it had a pretty weak processor and nota ton of RAM however they definitelydid remedy this with the Torch 2 with thesame 1.2GHz Snapdragon processorand 768MB of RAM. So overall I'm really lookingforward to these two, I meanI still think that BlackBerry really needsthe brand new QNX operating systemwhich of course they're working on with thePlayBook, it eventually will come to thephones but I think they definitely reallydo need to get that sooner or laterhowever this update with the much faster processorspeeds and all of that kindof stuff should definitely do a really goodjob of keeping everyone who is afan of BlackBerrys happy. Okay, so for thesecond segment of D3Live I'mgoing to be taking live questions from everyonein the chat. As always everyepisode of D3Live is filmed in front of alive audience, we've got quite a fewpeople in here right now and my dog so we'regoing to take a couple questionsand just kind of answer a few things. Howmuch is the BlackBerry Bold Touchgoing to be? Well the thing is with that isthat this is a leaked rumor, I wouldassume $200 on contract, same as 99% of allmajor new phones but we'll haveto wait and see probably the next month orso when they officially announceexactly what the price will be on the BlackBerryBold Touch. Do I think that it isa little too late? That is a perfect question,if you guys have watched my videosbefore you'll know I'm not a huge fan of BlackBerryin general, I think that basicallyiOS, Android, I think all of these kinds ofoperating systems are really just hurtingBlackBerry a lot so I think that BlackBerryI think that these phones are going tobe nice, they're going to help but I reallythink that BlackBerry is not going toreally take back off and really try to makeany positive headground, headroomwhatever the phrase is but I don't reallythink that BlackBerry is going to startgrowing again and people are really goingto start coming back to BlackBerryuntil they get the new QNX operating systemwhich of course is what they'reputting on the PlayBook, once they get thatall worked out, hopefully fairlysoon, I would probably expect in the nextyear or so that they can get thatworked out. Anyway guys that's it for thisweek's episode of D3Live, if youenjoyed feel free to subscribe I do this everySaturday at 3PM EST so youcan go ahead and watch the prerecorded episodeson YouTube or cancheck me out live on BlogTV.
