Samsung Galaxy Note 9 - The features it needs to succeed (CNET Top 5)

The Future of Samsung's Galaxy Note Series: Top Five Features We Want to See in the Next Generation of Phones

As we wait for the next iteration of Samsung's Galaxy Note series, we can't help but think about what features would make it truly exceptional. The Note has served as Samsung's experimental line for a while now, starting with a massive screen compared to other phones on the market at the time, followed by the introduction of a stylus, and then an edge. Despite some ups and downs, including the infamous exploding battery issue with the Note 8, we're eager to see what Samsung has in store for us next.

At number five on our list is the little things that make the Note excellent. Samsung needs to keep the features that have made the Note stand out from the rest, such as the headphone jack, waterproofing, wireless charging, and expandable storage. It's amazing how some phones, like the Galaxy S6, can forget about water resistance and expandable storage, which were available on the S5 just a few years prior. We hope that Samsung won't get rid of these essential features in favor of something more flashy.

Coming in at number four is a remappable Bixby button. This feature would be a great addition to any Samsung device that comes with a Bixby button, allowing users to customize their experience without having to rely on the assistant's default settings. We understand that Samsung shouldn't give up on its AI dreams entirely, but it would be lovely if Bixby was picked by users by choice rather than being forced upon them.

The third feature we'd like to see is significant improvements to the S Pen, which remains the defining characteristic of the Note series. With 4096 levels of sensitivity, the S Pen has already set a high bar for stylus technology. However, there's still room for improvement, especially when it comes to erase functionality. We'd love to see a more intuitive way to clean up notes and sketches without having to press a separate button on the side. Additionally, incorporating a "racer" function into the top of the S Pen could take the Note series to the next level.

In number two position, we have a three-dimensional front-facing camera. This feature is already available on the iPhone 10, but it would be a great addition to Samsung's lineup as well. Not only would it make intelligent skin – which we currently see on the Galaxy S9 – more secure and functional, but it would also improve Samsung's AR emoji capabilities. We've seen how Samsung's current generation of cameras handles animations, and while they're not exactly smooth, a 3D front-facing camera would be a significant improvement in other applications as well.

Finally, at number one on our list is the inclusion of notches or some form of unique display design. The Note series has always been about pushing the boundaries of what's possible with smartphone displays. While we're not convinced that five little notches or an essential phone style would be a good idea, incorporating a more subtle or innovative approach to screen bifurcation could result in something truly remarkable. On the other hand, including a fingerprint sensor in the screen – as seen on some Vivo phones – might just be the way forward.

As we eagerly await the release of Samsung's next Galaxy Note device, it will be interesting to see how these features come together to create a phone that lives up to its predecessors' standards. Whether you're an avid fan of the Note series or just looking for a new Android powerhouse, there's no denying the potential of what Samsung could bring to the table with their next generation of phones.

any Samsung device that has a Bixby button now I'm not saying that Samsung should give up on its assistant dreams I'm all for competition however it would be nice if Bixby was picked by users by choice and not because it's the only option and number 3 stylus improvements the S Pen is the defining characteristic of the note it already has 4096 levels of sensitivity one strange thing is you can't just turn the pen around to erase you press a button on the side to activate the eraser let's get a racer functionality built into the top of the S Pen number two a three-d front-facing camera yep the iPhone 10 has it yep this would be copying Apple and yeah it's still a good idea it would make intelligent skin which is on the galaxy s 9 a more secure plus it would improve Samsung's weird AR emoji take a look at how Samsung's current generation of cameras handles those animations not exactly smooth also a 3d front-facing camera would be useful in other of mented reality applications and the number one thing we want to see in the Galaxy Note 9 is notches maybe include five little notches essential phone style or maybe one really long notch in the middle of the phone bifurcating the phone screen now that that would be awful really want to see it's a fingerprint sensor in the screen we've seen the tech and a vivo phone already the fingerprint sensor on the note 8 is in a slightly odd spot the galaxy s 9 moved the fingerprint sensor to a better location and in screen sensor might be the best option and we want to see that in the galaxy note 9 that does it for us thanks
