Introduction to Google I/O 2014 and Moto 360 Prototype
John Renter from Technobuffalo here at Google I/O 2014, taking a look at one of the coolest-looking products that is on display. The product in question is a prototype version of the Moto 360, powered by Android Wear.
First Look at the Moto 360 Prototype
The Moto 360 has a round LCD screen that looks incredibly cool, with what appears to be just stickers or decals on it. However, upon closer inspection, it's clear that this is a fully functional watch. The prototype is set to demo mode, which limits our ability to show off its full features, but we can still get a brief overview of its design and functionality.
Design and Design Elements
The Moto 360 has a sleek, watch-like design that was clearly put together by Motorola with a focus on aesthetics. It's almost like looking at a regular watch, but the dimensions are slightly different, making it feel substantial enough to drop into your pocket or handbag without being too heavy. The demo unit is available for viewing, and we can see how it responds to voice commands.
Android Wear Features
As Android Wear devices were expected to be released soon, this prototype of the Moto 360 is showcasing some of its key features. With just a simple "OK Google" command, you can access various features like reminders, calendar events, or even send messages. You can also quickly mute or turn off notifications by using the demo unit's interface.
Private Time and Messages
One serious feature showcased during this demo was the ability to take private calls without disturbing others nearby. The prototype responds to voice commands with a "pull down" gesture that mutes incoming calls, ensuring only the person on the call can hear it. In addition, users can quickly reply to messages or send new ones using the watch's interface.
Battery Life and Syncing
The demo unit also shows how the Moto 360 syncs up with your phone via Bluetooth, allowing you to receive notifications, calendar updates, or reminders. When it comes time to respond to a message or take a call, users can quickly tap on their phone's interface to do so. The watch also tracks fitness-related data, such as steps taken during the day.
Navigation and Navigation Assistance
Another feature demonstrated was navigation assistance using voice commands, which is an exciting development for wearables. With this demo unit, you can easily ask Google Maps to navigate your way through unfamiliar streets or provide directions to specific locations.
Conclusion on the Moto 360 Prototype
The demo of the Moto 360 prototype showcases its impressive design and features that make it a highly capable smartwatch. Its user interface is intuitive and easy to use, and it seamlessly integrates with Android Wear-powered smartphones.
Questions About the Future Release Date
Although Motorola hasn't officially announced when we can expect to see this watch available for purchase, it's clear that this prototype represents some of the best features currently being offered by Android Wear devices.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up everyone john renter from technobuffalo here and we are at google i o 2014 taking a look at one of the coolest looking products that is here this is a prototype version of the moto 360 of course being powered by android wear and look at it it's got a round lcd let's go ahead and take a real quick first look so there's something about a round lcd that just looks cool honestly this looks like they're just stickers on here like it shouldn't even be actually moving but this is the moto 360 it's set to demo mode so we can't really work with it to show you everything it's going to do but we can sort of briefly give you an overview but first let's talk about the design you're going to see a lot of android wear stuff show up but the way this looks is awesome motorola really put a lot of time into the design and feel it's almost look really watch like it's a little bit on the thick side it's got some heft to it but not too heavy it's going to sort of drop your hand down so very similar here you can say okay google and i'll start showing you reminders that you can do remind you call your mom when i get home you go ahead and scroll left or right if you want to pulling down will mute it for you easy one serious bit of private time also to show you the battery to go ahead and swipe to the right you can see if you wanted a quick reply to a text something if you got it show you what that'll look like sort of keep swiping if it'll let me do it on the demo here reply there we go so it's a little bit on the limited demo side here but you will get cards and stuff that'll show up you've got one button that'll turn it on and off on the side a very reminiscent of a normal watch if you go ahead and turn that on you can sort of keep swiping so we want to get dinner tonight you can tap it you swipe it off the screen that would also swipe off on your phone as well so the cards do sync up you can see the weather if you keep swiping you can see a forecast just sort of a brief overview of what you can do with an android wear device also of course fitness is a big deal here so it'll count your steps for you as well to make sure you know you're losing that weight that you want to okay google show you a little bit more about what it can do so take a note and it'll show up on your notes app on your android device which is really kind of neat just talk to it most thing i'm excited about though would be uh navigation if i want to figure out how to walk place i could do it right from here uh really handy to see what it can do okay google yeah yeah and then again it'll start to go do its google now things but when the screen is off and you just have sort of a watch face on which is kind of tricky to get the demo unit to show us to do at least right there it looks like a regular watch this is an incredible screen you don't know any spectator on it yet the room is going to be about a 320 by 270 display but motorola's been really tight-lipped on we don't know release date we don't know anything other than the fact that we'll be getting one uh sometime soon but that watch looks just like a regular kind of big face watch and it looks absolutely awesome i am really excited to see i think motorola absolutely nailed it anyway guys what device are you most excited about is moto 360 and why i love to hear your
