Review - ZooGue Smart Kase for iPad

The Zugu Smart Case: A Comprehensive Review

Case Back to the Basics

The Zugu Smart Case is designed with functionality and practicality in mind, starting from its case design back. The new cases on the left are similar to their predecessors but have undergone significant changes. Gone is the button on the right, replaced by a new strap on the inside that adds a touch of modernity to the classic design. The flap that goes over the velcro has been reduced in size, making it less intrusive and creating a more streamlined look. The cutout groove on the sides adds a nice touch, giving the case a sleeker appearance.

Putting the iPad to the Test

To demonstrate the functionality of the Zugu Smart Case, let's put an actual iPad inside. Opening the strap allows us to slip the iPad in smoothly, making sure it fits snugly. Next, we tuck the strap under the velcro strip, securing the iPad in place. The result is a seamless integration that showcases the case's attention to detail. A minor complaint, though, is that the home button doesn't always perfectly align with the groove at first. This may require a slight adjustment, but it's not a significant issue.

Features and Functionality

The Zugu Smart Case offers an impressive range of features and functionality, making it a standout among iPad cases. The case provides access to all ports and buttons, including the home button on the bottom and the sleep/wake button on the top. The right side features the mute switch, volume buttons, and a standard 3.5mm headphones port. On OS 4.2.1, the mute switch replaces orientation lock, a change that might not be ideal for some users. However, this is not unique to the Zugu Smart Case, as it's a feature of Apple's operating system.

Support on the Back

One of the most impressive features of the Zugu Smart Case is its support on the back. When we flip the case open, we can adjust its angle to our liking. This is particularly useful for gamers and movie watchers who want to prop up their iPad at a steep angle. The case can even be lowered to a more comfortable viewing position, making it suitable for use on laps or other irregular surfaces.

Headrest Strap: A Game-Changer

The headrest strap on the back of the Zugu Smart Case is a game-changer for car owners and parents who want to watch movies or play games with their kids. This innovative feature allows you to strap your iPad to any compatible car seat, providing hands-free viewing and entertainment options. It's a small but thoughtful addition that sets the Zugu Smart Case apart from other cases.

The Verdict: Worth Every Penny?

With its robust design, impressive features, and functionality, the Zugu Smart Case is worth considering for anyone looking for an iPad case. While it may not be the thinnest or cheapest option available, its premium materials and attention to detail make up for any price difference. At $449.99, this case offers great value for those willing to invest in a high-quality accessory.

Conclusion

The Zugu Smart Case is a top-notch iPad case that checks all the boxes for functionality, design, and practicality. Its innovative features, such as the adjustable angle and headrest strap, make it an excellent choice for gamers, movie watchers, and parents. While minor complaints exist, they are far outweighed by the case's many strengths. If you're willing to invest in a premium iPad case with a wide range of features, the Zugu Smart Case is definitely worth considering.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys how are you David here from tech.com today I am going to do a quick review of the zuku smart for the iPad whoa whoa whoa hold up David you already did a zugo iPad case review well yes you are correct and yes I'm talking to myself this is actually the old case design we have a new zugu case design right here and there it is as you can see they're very similar this one I reviewed a few months back and this is the new version with only a few minor differences the front cover looks almost exactly the same we have the velcro strips along the sides for support that I'll get to in a second we have the zugu brand right here this one's obviously much bigger and on the new version which is right here on the right it's much smaller and interestingly they spell it differently here's the old case design it says smart case with a c but on the new case design it's it's spelled smart case with a K I guess that's to show the difference between the two for those not familiar with the first case design so so opening up the case let's spin it around here this is the old case design again do not get confused um it's got a basic setup but a very nice setup we got a nice border here we got a hole for the light sensor and the home button on the bottom and on the new case it's exactly the same except a few minor differences which I think actually looks better this is almost the same material this is a little softer it feels I could I could be wrong on that but for my fingers it feels a little softer and this actually looks a little better we have um openings on the both top and bottom so it's no longer a hole on the top we just have a um like a kind of like a groove on the top and the bottom so it it's exactly the same on both sides so if we put the iPad in there the home button would show on the bottom and the home button would show on the top so this is a great case for those who don't feel like they have to be restricted to using their iPad in one way or no way at all so flipping the case back back to the back if that makes sense now the new cases on the left don't get confused I know they look very very similar this is basically the same exact design except we do not have the button on the right anymore we have now we have a new strap on the inside that I'll show in a second and the flap that goes on the velcro is less intrusive I guess that's the right word here it's much much larger um but here we have nice cutout Gro on the sides so I think overall that looks a little better all right so now let's put the actual iPad in to do this you open this strap and down here you just see a velcro strip y there it is take the iPad and you just slip it in make sure it's nice and snug then you take this strap and tuck it under here so it hits the velcro sorry I just H my camera there and there you go the iPad is in place now I got to be honest it's a very very very minor complaint uh but this home button is not always centered with the groove at first sometimes you got to push the iPad in um you know a little more yourself again it's not a huge deal at all it's just something I think is worth mentioning so there's the iPad it obviously works as it should in the in the case you have access to all your ports and buttons you have the home button on the bottom and of course on the top you have your sleep wig button uh your microphone and your standard 3 and a half mm headphones uh port down here you have access to your speaker and the dock and of course on the right here we have your mute switch now on OS 4.2.1 it's mute no longer orientation lock which is kind of a disappointment but that's not zugu spot obviously that's apples and you have your volume buttons this is what the iPad looks like when it's in the case it's definitely not the thinnest case but this case does offer a lot of functionality so that's really not a complaint but the main selling point of this feature and this is exactly why it's one of my favorite iPad cases I've ever used and I've used a lot of iPad cases trust me I have is this support on the back once we flip the case open this is kind of hard to show on camera we can open up this strap and put it at any angle we want so now if you're a big gamer like myself or you watch movies on your iPad regularly you can put this at any angle you virtually want and of course it can go even lower if you can see on the side here that's the lowest it'll go now at that height it gets a little wobbly but it's definitely good enough where if you want to put it on your lap and you don't have to uh you know rest it with your arms or anything this is definitely good enough and of course if you wanted to show off your pictures or anything at a steep angle you could do that which is pretty cool and this is what it looks like on the side so you can see the angle that we're at and of course we cannot forget the headrest strap on the back of the zugu smart case this allows you to strap the iPad to any um car seat or anything for that matter that supports the size and view your apps um hands spray basically or watch movies which is great and that is a zugu smart case guys overall it's a great case my only minor complaints are that the home button does not perfectly line up with the groove down here right away without pushing it in yourself again that's very very minor and that should really not affect your purchase this offers a lot of functionality it's a very thick leather and it's very robust so you shouldn't expect a very thin case but for what it is and the functionality it offers it's definitely a great case and worth looking into now it sells for $449.99 which is not the cheapest iPad case but you got to keep in mind with all the features and functionality built in this one iPad case that's really not that bad of a price at all so if you don't mind paying $50 for an iPad case this is definitely worth it check it out at Zug go.com and that is that guys thank you so much for watching this was my review of the zugu smartcase version two don't forget this is the version two um if you really do want the version one I really don't see why you would this one's a little better um I'm sure you can find this cheaper online uh such as eBay or such but this one is sold officially at zoo.com so that about wraps it up thank you for watching
