How to Request the Desktop Version of a Website on Your iPhone
This is the mobile version of our YouTube channel, but notice what happens when you long press on the refresh button in the address bar. You get this request desktop site prompt, so if available, when you tap that, the page will refresh and load up the desktop version of the website you're currently on.
If the app store app is acting a little weird and perhaps isn't showing an update that you know is available, you can easily force the app store to refresh by tapping ten times on one of the tabs at the bottom of the screen. This technique was brought to my attention by one of our loyal YouTube viewers, who pointed out that it doesn't require a 3D Touch device to use the print-to-PDF feature.
To access this feature, go to the share sheet and tap "Print." Then, 3D touch on the print preview to load up the full PDF view. However, it turns out that you don't need a 3D Touch device to do this at all. Simply pinch-gesturing on the print preview will open up the full PDF ready to share.
Apple Music on Your iPhone: Waking Up with a Song
Did you know that you can use the stock alarm clock in the Clock app to wake up to Apple music? Any song on Apple music, as long as it's downloaded, can be added to your library. To access this feature, go to the Clock app and create or edit an alarm. Tap "Sound" and then pick a song from your five most recent songs. Alternatively, you can search for a specific song in the Music app and save it to your library before adding it as an alarm.
Once you've added a song to your alarm, set the wake-up time, and the Clock app will play that song at your chosen time. This feature is especially useful if you want to wake up to a specific song without having to search for it each morning.
Rearranging Items in the Share Sheet
One of the lesser-known features of iOS 10's share sheet is its ability to rearrange items. To do this, tap the "More" button and use the drag handles to reposition your selected item. Alternatively, you can simply tap and hold on an item within the share sheet to move it.
You can also hide eligible items by long-pressing on that item and selecting "Hide." Renaming a folder is straightforward: open the folder and then long press on an app icon to place your device in edit mode.
Another way to rename a folder is to 3D touch on it. Simply select "Rename" from the context menu, and you'll be automatically placed in edit mode with the keyboard available ready to type in.
Editing Photos and Screenshots
If you want to mark up a photo or screenshot in the Photos app, tap the "Adjustment" button while the photo is open, and then tap the "Ellipsis" button to show your photo editors. However, if you don't see the Mark Up feature, tap "More" and then enable it.
Once you've opened Mark Up, you can draw on the photo, adjust the stroke weight, change the color, add text, or add a magnifying glass. These features are extremely nice to have for adding annotations to any photo or screenshot right there on the fly within the Photos app itself.
In addition, Mark Up allows you to transform items into actual circles or arrows, depending on your selection. Once you're finished annotating your photo or screenshot, you can easily save it and share it.
Filtering Email Messages in iOS 10's Mail App
Finally, let's talk about one of the most useful features in iOS 10's Mail app: filtering. When you tap the "Filter" button in the bottom left-hand corner, all messages except those that meet your filter requirements will be removed from view.
To use this feature, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Filtering Options and select the types of emails you want to see. You can set up the filter to include unread items or flagged items only, as well as exclude emails from specific mailboxes. This feature is an extremely handy tool for quickly getting to your most important messages.
With these features in mind, iOS 10 becomes even more powerful and useful for daily use. Whether you're looking to access a website on desktop, wake up to music with the alarm clock, or mark up photos and screenshots, there's no shortage of ways to customize and enhance your iPhone experience.
