Chuwi Lapbook Air Unboxing Hands-On Review
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enSo this right here is Chuwi's Lapbook Airit's their final Apollo Lake laptop atleast I believe it's going to be andprobably the last one I'm going toactually review on the channel before weswitch over to the Gemini Lake which isthe new up-and-coming successor to thatApollo chipset so this has a fourteenpoint one inch IPS screen that iscovered with glass apparently it isscratch resistant and it has 128gigabytes of e MMC 5.1 storage eightgigabytes of RAM so this is the firstApollo Lake laptop out of the about tenthat I have looked at that has 8gigabytes of RAM so it's a lot more thanthe original ones which first came outwith just four so it also has a fullmetal build backlit keyboards to USB 3ports on that's looking promising solet's check this one out here in greaterdetail so must admit I was slightlydisappointed when the final specs ofthis one they confirmed it would comewith an Apollo Lake I was really hopingthat they were going to put a chlorine 3in this something like the 7 Y 30 whichwould be quite a bit faster almost twiceas fast as those Apollo days buthopefully fingers crossed we will see acoram 3 version of this particular modelso you can see the alep box is packagingis just like their tablets and theirother lack box series of notebooksexactly the same IPS 14.1 and it justconfirmed on the side there that yeah 8gigabytes of RAMI don't want gigabyte MMC but it alsodoes have an SSD slot on the back of itso we can expand and put fastest originso the noble looks to be well protectedthere just get that out and I can seethey have their typical little pouchhere that just has some warranty cardstuff they can see product inspectionreport so the charge up like here for meat least as the EU style one which isgood now it's that funny-looking MickeyMouse style plug that you typically seeon most laptops oh that's good see wehad to change this over to a u.s. orAustralian New Zealand style one andhere's the power supply so it's rated to12 volts out 3 amps and the plug on theend positive in the middle negative onthe outside and the diameter is 3millimeters it comes in to be one pointthree five kilos which isn't too bad fora fourteen point one inch laptop andit's around about 15 millimeters thickthat's without the rubber feet there sothose rubber feet will add an extra fewmillimeters and it comes to be sixteenpoint two was so quite slim so it has afull metal build and you can see thechewy logo is quite visible and in facthas a clear plastic along here so theback light from that IPS panel is goingto light this up personally I would haveloved to this have just been plainthere's a tiny little bit of flexpushing quite hard on it well a littlebit of flex there but overall quite goodmade out of metal here I do like thiscolor so it's not a light silver butmore of a darker towards a gray kind ofsilver color so on the right side wehave two USB 3 ports the 3.5 millimeterheadphone jack of course it does supportmicrophonesnow this ports are spaced a little closetogether ideally I like them to bespaced out a bit wider then we have amini HDMI port for video out status LEDDC in there for charging and a micro SDcard slot and so what it's missing herefor me would be a USB 3.1 type C put onthere would have been great like thecube I work 5 X so the micro SD cardreader on the side the cards will sit innice and flush like so so they shouldn'tcome out when you put this in yourbackpack and just a very quick sizecomparison compared to my me notebookerr 12.5 inch version you can see is ofcourse smaller about the differencebetween them too isn't really that muchyou have about one and a halfcentimeters here and then approximatelythree centimeters longer now to test outthat screen hinge so it looks a lotactually like the me notebook as wellbecause it's fully laminated 1080p IPSpanel they have applied a screen protectand I can see plenty of bubbles on therenow the hinge itself that feels reallyquite firm that's good okay so there'sthe keyboard oh actually those keys area lot higher than I thought they wouldbe that reminds me of the Chewie latbook 14.1 so they have quite a bit oftravel on them I'll measure that in myfull review but just estimating hereit looks to be well over 1.5 millimetersof travel and pressing down hard therethere's a little bit of flex but not toobad so the keyboard looks to have itcovered when it comes to shortcuts whereyou have controls for your media so playpause Skippy here things like thatbrightness control volume audio printscreen and even a number lock on thereand you can see that with that functionyou've got use of the number pad herethat's really mucked out next to theother letters we don't normally see thisso it's good to have that optionhomepage up and down and in keys as wellnow the power button as you can see is alittle bit away from the backspace keywhich is good close to the delete nowjust test it out now that the resistanceof that button is in fact exactly thesame as the rest of the keys there whichis a little bit of a shame personally Iwould have liked them to have move thisbutton up here so it's even way out fromthe keyboard so you don't accidentallytap it but of course in Windows you canset the power button to do nothing ifyou did tap it now have discovered aminor con here with the screen and thehinge will only go back this far sothat's the maximum angle that it willrecline which to me doesn't seem quiteenough so first boot did not take longat all it was about 10 15 seconds gotinto Windows really quick there wasalready an account created so chewy haspartitioned that drive the 128 gigabytesof each MMC 5.1 storage we have I'lltest the speeds of that in just a minuteyou can see they've got 75 gigabytes fordata and then you have created apartition there for Windows with 40gigabytes of data now there's pros andcons to this one of them if you do afactory reset then that partition ondata should hopefully still be intact soyou won't lose your files you just backthem up just in case though and you cansee that 128 - gigabyte Samsung Pro Plusmicro sd card has been detected and thatis working fine so the wireless card isquite common now for these Apollo Lakeso its entails a dual band wireless AC3165 personally I find it's a goodchipset it's reasonably fast and hasgood range it is a big step up from thewireless in real tech cards we used tohave on the old atoms now for memorywe've got 8 gigabytes of double datarate 3 RAM but I have noticed thatWindows is reporting that the speed isset to1330megahertz and not the fastest 1600 thatwe commonly see on the other Apollo Lakelaptops that have 6 gigabytes of RAM sohopefully I'll have a look to see if wecan change this in the BIOS and set thefaster speed now I have some good newshere with the touchpad that it is usingWindows precision drivers and overalljust using it now for about 5-10 minutesfeels good it's accurate and just asgood as the one on the easy book 3 proversion 4 which is another Windowsprecision touchpad so the screen so farlooking good it's bright and of coursebeing fully laminated with glass and infact that I've still got the screenprotector on it's highly reflective Imean a huge amount of reflections to beas expected now viewing angles are finethey're perfect for an IPS I had a lookat that because had a spate of TN panelslately so that's at least nothing toworry about here that it is an IPS andso far looks really good the screen verynice so this is what the backlitkeyboard looks like there are noin-between settings so it's either on oroff and you use function and then escapeto turn it on or off there so theunderside looks a lot like the easy book3 Pro very similar design to it so forrubber feet and you can see either sidespeaker grilles and then a hatch on thebottom if you wanted to install a set of3 SSD now it is marked on the hatch thatit has to be 22 by 42 in size and that'sof course you decide to do this youdon't have to put one in you can cloneWindows then over to the SSD which willbe faster and give you greater capacityif you do what I've done I've gone for a256 gigabyte SSD so once you haveinstalled your SSD make sure you go intothe buyer so when you power it up hitdelete or escape both of them at thesame time as what I generally do andjust go into the boot order here andthen select your SSD so now that's goingto boot that now another positive herelike the jumper easy book 3 pro version4 the BIOS is completely unlocked we'reable to go along and even disable thepower limit now what this does don'treally recommend it only if you want toget maximum performance is to increasethe power that the CPU can use sodisabling listedyou will actually clock a lot higher andyou get way better gaming performancebut it will increase thermal so that acaution when using the setting and asfor the RAM I don't actually think I canchange the speed I can't find thesettings for RAM just the memoryconfiguration all I can see is does thismemory scrambler option so I'm not toosure if we can increase it to 1600megahertz which is a shame so I justfinished running Geekbench 4 to get anidea on how that Ram is going to affecttheir performance and the schools hereare slightly slower so we can see around4000 on the multi-core school here withGeekbench 4 and single core score thathasn't really dropped down that much atall so it will have an impact on theperformance but only slightlyof course disabling that power limitmight even boost things up a little bithigh to compensate for that slightlyslower Ram and then a very quick look atthe EMC speeds you can see they'rereally good here as expected for 128gigabyte MMC 5.1 spec drives so almost280 reads sequential and 125 writesthere for kazar also quite good so sofar in my use it feels just as fast asany other Apolo lake or like the jumpereasy book 3 pro version for the impactof that Ram I'm not actually seeing itat the moment I feel that it might onlyreally affect gaming performance which Iwill check out later on of course in myfull review of this particular model sothere are two downward firing speakersas you saw early on in this video let'shave a listen to how they soundso they sound almost identical to theeasy book three prose speakers I justwish they were a little bit louderthey're not really loud enough are theyas for Linux I'm just running and TIG ushere which is a latest build of it thatI'm testing out from the pendrive youcan see on the right plankton so theonly thing that isn't working is thetouchpad now I haven't tried to installit but the screen brightness controlsthey're working audio as well as workingwireless is working it's just that thetouchpad drivers is the only issue soyou'd have to hunt around and find thoseand see if you can get it working okayso that's it there for my first hands-onwith Chuy's let book ear now it's verydecent so far I'm really enjoying itnice screen on there okay it isreflective being fully laminated and itwould be nice if the screen couldrecline back a little bit more that's aminor con and the other minor con that Ihave discovered so far is the RAM speedso it's 1333 megahertz and not 1602which the Apollo Lake supports themaximum supported speed that you can geton it which is a little bit of a shamethat means that it you know it'saffecting their performance slightlywhen it comes to CPU scores andGeekbench for now we do have in the biassome positives to that they have fullyunlocked everything which is great thatmeans that I can go on there and changethe power limits to disable basicallyand let the CPU use as much power as itwants it will clock up that GPU as wellto up to the highest speeds and holdthem but it will generate a lot moreheat and kill off the battery life sobetter life benchmarks gamingperformance and everything else I canthink of in my final opinion over all ofthis lat book ear will be coming outwithin about a week or so and that willbe of course in my final review thankyou so much for watching this video hereand I do hope to catch you back withthat review bye for now\n"
