We're Back at the Track, Baby!
We're back at the track, baby! It's been a long time coming, but the Miata finally has a turbo on it (engine roaring). So we figured it was high time that we came back to the scene of the crime, back to Willow Springs International Raceway, to see if we could improve our track time results from last time and whether or not all these mods and all this money we've spent has been worth it.
I'm Zach, and this is Turbo Pit, baby. Let's race (upbeat music). Alright, we've been here before. Our friends at EAD Exotics are hosting another trackday at Willow Springs, so we've got the run of the big track all day. Last time we were here, things didn't go exactly as planned. We had a few issues with the car, like we were overheating and my gauges kept shutting off. So since then, we fixed the cooling system. We've added big brakes, and most importantly, we have added the beautiful CX racing turbo kits to the car (engine roaring).
Yeah, sutututu! - So if you've been following along for the last six weeks, you know that kit came with everything we needed to turbo this car save for some fuel injectors. We got a turbo manifold, we got a downpipe, we've got the turbo itself, we've got the whole inter-cooler setup. We've got the blow-off valve and we added some fuel injectors. And then we finally dyno-tuned it to make a whopping blistering insane (car engine roaring) 227 horsepower. Now that's almost double what we were making before that we were making about 120 horsepower. So the question still remains, whether or not all the money that we spent getting to that 227 horsepower has been worth it.
And if I'm actually gonna be able to run a respectable lap time at the track today, last time I was trying to run a one minute forty-six second lap, but now I've got almost double the horsepower. I mean, there's no reason in my mind that I shouldn't be able to stop on a 1:46 and walk myself all the way to a 1:40 flat, maybe even a 1:40. Alright, so I'm gonna give it one more go, one more hot ass lap, and I'm gonna try to break into the 1:40s.
It's still not the goal that I had in mind, but you know I'm really good at changing my goals and sliding my expectations based on what's happening. Let's go shred (upbeat music). Alright, so I'm back out again, but you're smoking. Oh yeah. Dang, all this oil! I wanna keep running, we're getting faster.
Alright, so I mean, there is oil coming from seemingly a lot of places. Just check the underside of the hood. It's like wet with oil. This is not necessarily good; it's at least coming out around the valve cover gasket, but that is a lot of oil on the exhaust. Even the turbo's wet. Good Lord, not great.
A Lot of Smoke, But We're Just Gonna Keep Running!
So I'm gonna give it one more go, one more hot ass lap and I'm gonna try to break into the 1:40s. It's still not the goal that I had in mind, but you know I'm really good at changing my goals and sliding my expectations based on what's happening.

Alright, so we're still making a lot of smoke, and I still haven't gotten into the 1:40s. Probably be pretty easy to look at today and take it as an L, but I'm taking that as a win.
The cars are running great. We turboed this thing, and it's making power. Yeah, there are still some things to figure out like these oil leaks, namely, but that's okay. That's just more episodes. bit of smoke.- Coming out of the hood?- Yeah.- Yeah so this is the first timea lot of this stuff's getting hot,like real hot,although I should probably inspect.(car engine roaring)There's a little smoke smoking.Well, the car fields so good.That was awesome.I had my foot in it most of the time,I was actually kind ofpushing it a little bitand it ran great.I mean, it didn't skip a beat.The gate, just stay on.We didn't overheat.There is a little smokecoming from the engine bag.It looks like it's coming outaround the valve cover gasket.So that would be no big deal,but I'm gonna need tofigure out sooner than laterwhat's going on.Also, it looks like itmight be pushing outof the oil fill cap.And if that's the case,that means that we're probablypressurizing the crankcase.There might be some blow bygetting past the piston rings,which is a larger problem altogether.Not sure what's going on butthere is definitely some oilgetting pushed out of this engineand it's making a smoke.I think I'm gonna join the(beep)club and just run this thing today anywayand see what happens.It's now or never babymake it or break it.I hope it's not break it.I'm hoping for make it.Basically what I'm gonnado is I'm gonna go outand I'm gonna make a lapso I can come acrossthe start line at speed.And then that's the start of my hot lap.Christina is gonna be out therewith a stopwatch timing me.So hopefully we
