How to Replace a Fog Light in a C4 Corvette

Replacing Fog Lights on a 1996 C4 Corvette: A Simple Guide

We're gonna be replacing fog lights on a 1996 C4 Corvette, and this will be similar on all the C fours. I'm replacing both of them because one of them went out, and the other ones probably bound to go out might as well just do it. The bulb size I'll be using is a 894, and it's pretty simple and straightforward.

To start the job, you'll need a seven millimeter socket with a ratchet. Since I'm replacing both bulbs, make sure not to touch these with your bare hands because oils from your skin can mess up the bulb and shorten its lifespan. Instead, wear a glove to protect yourself and the bulbs. Now, let's get down to business.

First, locate the ground for reference and identify the bolt that holds the fog light in place. You'll notice an opening that swings down for you when you unscrew the bolt. This is where the seven millimeter socket will fit perfectly. Unscrew the bolt now, and take it out completely. Twist the bulb counterclockwise until you feel it give way, then wiggle it up a bit to release it further.

You'll see your bulb and be able to actually see the filament that's broken. Don't worry; this thing could flex pretty good, so don't go past about 45 degrees if you need to adjust it. However, you can easily get your hand in here with a thumb or screwdriver to remove it completely. You'll notice there are two bulbs in the fog light, so pry them apart and then pull them down to remove them.

Now, use your glove to handle the new bulb gently and push it in until it clicks into place. Make sure it's seated properly, as it only goes in one way. With the new bulb installed, you should be able to see the hole where the light is coming out of it. Turn the bulb clockwise until it feels snug; don't overtighten it.

Now that the new bulb is installed, take a step back and admire your work. You've successfully replaced the fog lights on your 1996 C4 Corvette. I did put the car on ramps just because it was hard to get video being so close to the bottom; however, you don't have to if you don't want to. The ramps do make it easier with headroom and arm room, but they're not necessary. Now, let's take a look at how the lights look after replacing them. And that is how you change a fog light in a C4 Corvette – nice and simple.

Just to recap, I've replaced both fog lights to new bulbs, which look pretty good. The new bulbs are white instead of the yellowish color they used to be.
