and a 256 gigabyte solid state drive you could potentially move this up to even more active memory and this is one of the advancements from last time instead of only being able to go up to 16 gigabytes of unified memory on this model you'll be able to go up to 24 gigabytes it's an odd number for ram or active memory i know but it should still be able to ease memory pressure if that was your headache about the m1 machines a top of the line macbook pro 13 with 24 gigabytes of unified memory and a 2 terabyte solid state drive will run you 24.99 if we take a step back and look at the rest of the non-apple laptop world that's not a terrible deal especially for how well the m1 macbook's performed but if you look in the apple world for that money you could get a macbook pro 14 with either a 512 gigabyte solid state drive and 32 gigabytes of unified memory or a 16 gigabytes of unified memory and one terabyte solid state drive model and yes the macbook pro 14 is superior to the macbook pro 13 in every way possible i can't i can't think of a single way that the macbook pro 13 is better which again like i said in the intro is why you get the cheapest model okay gary you've mr fancy smart guy why even buy this macbook when it's exactly like the previous model except some internal spec bumps well team that's exactly it we only need to look at the ipads to see the potential future of these kind of macbooks from here on out ipads generally get a hardware redesign every few years or so the ipad pro is reworked in 2018 and we still get the same pro chassis today they receive internal spec bumps year over year in my opinion this isn't so that someone buys a new ipad or a macbook every year it's so that the tech is kept up to date and when somebody does want to move from that quad core i7 macbook pro to one of the new ones you literally have the best option available and to clarify before we go any further no i don't think that if you own an m1 macbook pro 13 that you should upgrade to the m2 macbook pro 13. this is just a way for apple to keep their processors up to date without spending money or team effort every year on a new design you can love it or hate it but personally for me it's nice to know that if i buy a machine this year it's not going to get a totally different design and make my macbook feel outdated immediately thereafter well can offer i don't see the macbook pro 13 as an enthusiast laptop well unless you are enthusiastic about the touch bar why i see the macbook pro 13 as the laptop for somebody that walks into best buy or their local electronics store looking to get something today but bulks at the thought of the macbook pro 14. with that out of the way let's dig into the main reasons i would say okay yes you are looking for a new computer maybe you should consider the m2 macbook pro 13. one the power we've already seen how great the m1 computers can be and i think apple's earned a lot of credibility since they started making their own laptop chips because when they showed off the presentation at the m1 launch they were saying weird things about power efficiency and actual performance it was like i don't know that you can actually deliver that well they ended up being right so for the m2 when they say there are moderate advancements in single core performance and a fairly large jump in overall graphical performance i will take them at face value there what we might end up seeing next week when these machines start getting into our hands are that the macbook pro 13 is one of the if not the strongest performing single core computer on the market you might laugh but the m1 is already really close up there and as this graph definitely shows the m2 processor edges out even the mighty m1 i'm i'm not actually sure how apple would have been able to achieve this without me literally needing to believe in magic the biggest advancement practically speaking seems to be with the gpu so if you were somebody that deals with a lot of graphical work be that digital art rendering video editing very very specific gaming this will undoubtedly be better than all macbooks previously under two thousand dollars and i think i saw tweet the other day where it's better than the five thousand dollar mac pro this might end up being one of the functionally best graphical workstations on the market under thirteen hundred dollars seriously what apple's been able to accomplish with their integrated gpus is remarkable and they now have performance that was very recently only achievable by fairly large power hungry dedicated graphics cards speaking of power hungry two the battery life the macbook pro 13 easily has the best battery life of any laptop around minus the very very expensive macbook pro 16. it's so good that i would functionally consider there to be no real difference between that macbook pro 13 and 16. you might consider the difference between five and six hours of battery life pretty huge and i would agree with that but the difference between 20 and 21 that seems a lot smaller to me 20 hours is crazy that's almost three full eight hour days worth of use and if you are someone that doesn't have your computer on literally every second of the day it could last even longer essentially this means that you no longer have to worry about battery life 20 hours of battery life is like okay that's that's an abstract number it just means you don't have to think about it anymore my work gave me a windows laptop and no kidding the second it's unplugged to go to a meeting i know the clock is ticking while on paper it has eight to nine hours of battery life in practice i've had it die in a single meeting macbooks don't have that issue and the macbook pro 13 with its monster life will still be one of the best options for work that you are going to find three i love the macbook air and i personally think both the m1 and m2 versions are the better buy but i also live and work in an environment that isn't overly warm and i never have to worry about thermal performance however if you or somebody that does the macbook pro 13 continues to have an active cooling system unlike these macbook airs the apple processors are so thermally efficient that it doesn't take much to keep them in a healthy operating environment but sometimes you can't control that if you live in a hot climate so this onboard fan could be the difference between the computer working for you or not and i i don't really want to discount this yes it's easy for me as somebody that stays inside all day to extol the virtue of a computer with no fans but it's not as easy for folks that have to work in the heat and you need a computer that functions all the time this computer is for you on that note i did hear watch me buy the cheapest m2 macbook pro 13 but i buy a lot of stuff who would i specifically recommend the m2 macbook pro 13 to spoilers but this is not going to get a general audience recommendation for me some laptops do this is not i do think there are other better computers out there for less money or better value out of ones out there for a little bit more money this is an older design it's lacking multiple external screen functionality it's only got two thunderbolt 3 ports no new cameras no new really anything it's the macbook pro 13 we've seen literally for
