**Hands-on Review: Red Magic 7 Pro**
The Red Magic 7 Pro is an upcoming gaming phone that has generated significant buzz in the tech community. As someone who had the opportunity to get their hands on this device, I'm excited to share my thoughts and impressions of this powerful device.
In terms of display, the Red Magic 7 Pro boasts a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. While this is impressive, it's worth noting that the phone's under-display camera can be seen on the screen, which may not appeal to everyone. The device also features a digital zoom issue, where it starts to look pixelated after a certain point. However, when I turned off the digital zoom and looked at the sample video of 8k footage, I was pleasantly surprised by how sharp and detailed it appeared.
To put this into perspective, here's a comparison between the Red Magic 7 Pro and its predecessor:
"... probably go over that because it starts to look quite pixelated as you can see now that is five times a digital zoom there and i'll just zoom right back herenow a very quick sample of 8k video so this has no electronic image stabilization it looks more detailed sharper and yes it is looks like native 8k to me but it's only 24 frames per second so you really do need to use a gimbal or have this mounted in a tripod i feelsosooh dear yes that under display camera not really looking that good at all so it is a downgrade from the red magic 7 the front-facing selfie performance so if you take a lot of selfies or vlog video it's not the one to go for you should definitely get the red magic 7 that has a top bezel and a bottom bezel but the top bezel houses a camera that's a normal front facing camera and that's unfortunately just what it's like with all of the under display cameras i've tested out this is the fourth now and they all do to a very very degree there exhibit all of that kind of halo blurriness effect to it especially in sunlight and artificial lights as well you do notice it so it's not amazing quality but if you never take selfies then it's not going to be a problem you get a more modern design now"
The Red Magic 7 Pro also boasts impressive thermal management, with temperatures reaching up to 55 degrees Celsius. However, I was surprised to find that the phone's thermals are actually worse than its predecessor, despite having an improved cooling system.
"I were a bit surprised they're shocked in fact to see that it got up to 55 degrees now 55 degrees celsius to the touch you may not think it's that hot but it's feeling very toasty and after gaming for one hour i could just feel it like this ramping up slowly getting hotter and hotter and hotter playing away touching those triggers especially feeling the heat from the frame the frame for some reason seems to transmit more heat than the previous model so even though they've improved the airflow apparently it to me doesn't seem like the cooling is actually better in fact i'm saying it's worse so it's getting about five six maybe even seven degrees hotter the frame of the phone hotter to the touch was it which is not good now it doesn't really throttle it will throttle down about four five percent that's it but that is the cost the price we pay is"
In terms of performance, the Red Magic 7 Pro delivers blazing-fast speeds, making it an excellent choice for gamers. However, I have to say that I prefer the Red Magic 7, which offers similar performance but with a few additional perks.
"...but then the performance is very very good but so is the red magic 7 it's basically exactly the same kind of performance there we are gaining nothing with the performance in fact we're losing that top refresh rate with the screen from 165 to now at 120. so it is a blazing fast super quick gaming phone but i actually prefer the red magic 7. i think it's better even though maybe the design looks a little bit more dated it's got a better selfie camera the thermals are better and it's still a very very good phone for gamers out there now"
Finally, in terms of battery life, the Red Magic 7 Pro offers around 30 minutes of extra gaming time compared to its predecessor. While this may not seem like a significant difference, it's worth noting that every little bit counts when it comes to marathon gaming sessions.
Overall, my experience with the Red Magic 7 Pro has been mixed. While it delivers impressive performance and features some innovative technologies, it also suffers from issues such as the under-display camera and poor thermal management. However, if you're a serious gamer looking for a powerful device that can handle demanding games, the Red Magic 7 Pro may be worth considering – especially with its improved design and camera capabilities.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enIt wasn't that long ago that i reviewed the red magic 7 and already we've got the red magic 7 pro so it still has the same chipset the snapdragon 8 gen 1. and what we've got with this model is just a bit of a tweak a revision the main thing that they're pushing here is the under display camera that this has not that we had a notch anyway or a cut out with the red magic 7 because it had top and bottom bezels but now we've got a 16 megapixel under display camera with this so if you want the latest tech and slimmer looking bezels this is the model that has it so it has a more squared off design with the frame the cooling apparently has improved it's moving about 33 percent more air flow through this according to red magic of course and the battery capacity has increased to 5 000 milliamp hours up from 4500 now it does have a red core 1 chip in here that apparently is supposed to take away some of the workload of basic tasks things like audio and touch and whatnot from the snapdragon 8gen1 to allow it to actually perform a little bit better and have i actually seen much of a difference with that custom chip in there uh well a spoiler had not really i'll be putting this to the test to see if the new screen and with that new camera is actually any better or is it a release here that leaves you just kind of scratching your head as did we really need this upgrade here from red magic wasn't the red magic 7 good enough included with the phone we have a 65 watt charger a type c to type c cable and then a little box which does have a sim tray tool and then a tpu case and warranty card the design slightly different now tweaked from the 7 so the 7 pro here now has a rectangular camera design the intake is right here for the fan which is up to 20 000 rpm it does have rgb colors there's rgb here with the logo too and the battery capacity that is now 5 000 milliamp hours so up 500 milliamp hours from the previous version and we still have the snapdragon 8 gen 1 because the snapdragon 8gen 1 plus while that's simply not out yet now improvements to the cooling they claim that the fan now pushes through 33 more air flow and i'll be checking on the thermals later my thermal imaging camera so when you do hold it you do notice straight away that it's a heavy phone that it's heavier than the previous model because of the larger battery and the changes with the frame so it is now 235 grams and the thickness is about 10 millimeters so it is a bit of a chunky phone so on the left here we've got the switch to go into the dedicated gaming mode antenna line right here and on this side that's the exit vent so all of the hot air is being pushed out of the right side and we do have the two gaming triggers these buttons are made out of metal the build quality has improved over the previous model then a type c port that does support video out so this is great i think it's a must for a gaming phone to have video out it simply just clones the display but it means that with a bluetooth controller you can use it like a console then which is very handy loudspeaker one of two then a microphone and a sim tray which takes two nano sim so no there is no micro sd card support with this model and we do have some good news here with the top that we have a 3.5 millimeter out another must for me for a gaming phone you want to be using headphones for example in pub g we don't want to have latency issues using bluetooth no you want a wired analog 3.5 millimeter so great it's there microphone and the other loudspeaker so we have an in-screen fingerprint with a 6.8 inch screen it's still a full hd plus resolution so 21 by 9 aspect ratio and it does now have of course this which they're pushing quite heavily is the first gaming phone with an under display camera so you get the full screen experience here there's no ugly cutout no ugly notch and the bezels are looking quite a bit slimmer now more on that display because i think it's an excellent display for a gaming phone yes it's gone from 165 hertz down to 120 max now but this is really good we do have dc dimming although they haven't labeled it as dc dimming they call it low brightness flash protection and if you turn it off you'll see now maybe a bit of shimmering coming through there's a slight bit of banding now i don't see it in person not now but when i lower the brightness right down and we'll probably see it here on camera too when i do this there we go you see a lot more banding but as soon as you enable that option the dc dimming it flashes and it's gone okay so that's great now the maximum brightness it tops out at 740 nexus according to my measurements my meter which is very good so it is a bright screen and of course we've got very good cars and you get all of your standard options in there if you go into screen display preferences you can customize all of this i've kept it on their default vivid mode but i actually do prefer natural naturals probably the best one to me or p3 color gamut or you've even got the srgb option but i'll put it back onto vivid so touch response working good thanks to the fact that it does does have a touch rate of 960 hertz which is extremely quick and probably what you want to in a gaming phone so jumping into some test images here just want to show you that i think it's a very good screen here and it's that touch response it's just instantaneous no problems no problems with gestures everything is detected wow keyboard two typing on that i have not run into any issues at all now the bloatware on this lack of bloatware is very good just one app that's it next world browser that's all they've crammed on there that you probably go ahead and delete i know i will because i use chrome anyway internal storage speed so yes i do have the high capacity here of the 512 gigabytes of storage and that gives me an astonishing write rate here for random rights look at that over 400 megabytes per second i've not seen that before that's crazy good random reads good as well and then the sequential reads very good so this is very fast storage and that's not going to slow you down at all so very quick to install applications and then moving files over the usb 3.1 that this does have is quick as well we're not slowed down by horrible usb 2 speeds like other manufacturers no not here antutu score really good very high yes the fan was on but it maintains the top performance there as you'll see here with the 3dmark wildlife stress test this is run for 20 minutes and you'll see that it barely throttles it's throttled down in performance only 4.4 which is basically nothing and when you look at that best loop score that's a really good score there from the gpu very high to get that consider that other phones like the xiaomi 12 pro they only got 1800 points here because they were throttling themselves to start with and they just maintain that score the xiaomi didn't throttle this only throttled a tiny little bit but that is really good performance you'll see later on you can see it here too geekbench five another top score this is very good it's an incredibly fast phone and yes that fan does help out so widevine level one uh netflix yes in full hd but amazon prime video no that's in standard definition unfortunately until amazon white lists this device which may never happen i don't know i wouldn't hold my breath charge times here are good very good 20 minutes from seven to one hundred percent only factor in that with other phones that have 120 watt charging they take 20 minutes as well so that's a really good score and yes it reports slightly lower the capacity that's normal though camera two api okay we get level three support that's great that means your gcam months open camera going to work and i do have this the latest firmware i waited for this firmware update to come out before i moved on with recording this video it has improved a lot of bugs that i might have been mentioning but they have killed those bugs they're gone now and it seems very stable and very quick battery life this is best case scenario here okay i set the display brightness to 200 nits manually which is about what it is now it's not super bright but it's not dull either it went for nine hours at 60 hertz okay this is just normal content twitter social media unfortunately i can't show you the battery stats because it's missing it's missing here in the settings i don't know why they do this they've done it before on their previous phones and then at 120 hertz this is not worst case scenario because they didn't game it was again youtube chrome a lot of twitter and whatsapp and other things but no gaming and i managed to get seven hours and 49 minutes if you game you lose about 20 percent per hour to 25 per hour of gaming depends on the game and your brightness it really does burn through that battery so be careful about that for some users you might not actually make it through a full day the battery life isn't amazing with the red magic 7 pro just like the red magic 7. until there now the audio so i've been really enjoying i can't tell you how much i've enjoyed to have finally 3.5 millimeter on a flagship to have that again is so good because the phones that i normally use daily uh my standard phones that i'm swapping between an iphone and then a mates x2 i don't have this and it's so good to have quality is loud it's good it's clear and for gaming it's absolutely perfect now i wanted to point this out that scrolling here in the youtube app is not 120 hertz this is running at just 60 hertz it feels a little bit slower there but let's have a listen to the dual loudspeakers on this model they are loud they've got a tiny bit of bass and for a gaming phone i think they're goodand this is what the phone is really about the gaming of course so when you flick that switch you go into the gaming mode which is a hub you can get into and then you got customization of each of the games there from that so if you do swipe here from the top left you get into this gaming menu here so you've got controls here for what is basically the governor of the chipset here so balanced eco or rise which is a high performance when you do that it's going to boost their performance but it could get a little bit harder in fact it will and it does of course go through that battery even quicker so i'm gonna keep that on balance actually for that now all sorts of different options in there gaming related too so screenshots captures no disturb modes and all that you can set the shoulder triggers so i will set those up as well because it's a very good thing to have for something like pubg here so you can configure that basically overlays which i'll set up for this game but i just wanted to point out let's get out of that for now that here with pub g we do get the ultra graphics mode that's the highest we can go with it okay under the ceiling right here the tab so you see extreme sorry that's the highest with the frame rate but let's jump into some gameplay now and how those triggers work the gaming triggers i do find are really good now we do have some phones that have hardware ones but these work just as well so i've configured the right to be my iron sight or my scope so just tap that you can see there it is it's very very quick to do i find for me at least i'm not such a good player of pub g especially with on-screen on-screen controls here that this is a lot easier so i can look down the sides and then i can fire just like that very quick for me to do instead of hunting for of course where the buttons are now you can move them around now just go into that again where the shoulder button configuration is so you simply click into that and it's saved per game so it's just basically an overlay and all that's doing is emulating touch it's going from that to the screen so that's just all it's doing there so it's falling the system into thinking that you're actually touching the screen when you're just touching the top right there and it works well so with this phone they've also got that custom red one chip now that is supposed to free up a little bit the snapdragon 8gen1 and i've noticed no difference at all nothing i can't see any difference between it so they say that it handles the audio and various other things instead of the snapdragon 8 gen 1 to just give it a little bit more in terms of resources there and hang on i've got someone shooting at me and figure out where they are that's a bot definitely or maybe not i can't even see where they are okay there so let's use these triggersokay that was easy and it was just a bot too so that makes it a lot easier for me so very good and the performance here is so smooth no problem with that frame rate of course with this chipset and the fact that it's fan cooled it's just maintaining that constant performance and pubg isn't exactly a demanding title anyway now onto our temperatures so it is getting very hot this is after one hour of gaming up to 55 degrees celsius so just on the frame around the outside it certainly feels hot now you can see where the fan is working and pushing out the hot air let's have a look at the backsee the frame is where it is very hot and the air coming out i can feel the warm air being pushed out of it but to me the previous edition the red magic 7 did seem to run a little cooler now i do have it in the balanced mode not the high performance mode so that's after one hour of heavy gaming this is how hot it is going to get over to our cameras now so this is the front facing 16 megapixel camera under display camera that means that the quality not so good here especially when it comes to video you can see that because the camera lens has to look through the pixels it looks all blurred like i've got a smudgy lens or the glasses you know all blurry and spongy but it's not the case here i've cleaned it it's just the way it is and it doesn't have any electronic image stabilization so 1080p only with this front-facing camera let's take a look now at our rear camera and like the red magic 7 we've got 4k 30 frames per second which you're currently looking at 4k 60 and 8k now this does have electronic image stabilization but there is no optical image stabilization with this so you can apply some digital zoom or just zoom into this tower up here at the top uh that's 2.5 but i really wouldn't probably go over that because it starts to look quite pixelated as you can see now that is five times a digital zoom there and i'll just zoom right back herenow a very quick sample of 8k video so this has no electronic image stabilization it looks more detailed sharper and yes it is looks like native 8k to me but it's only 24 frames per second so you really do need to use a gimbal or have this mounted in a tripod i feelsosooh dear yes that under display camera not really looking that good at all so it is a downgrade from the red magic 7 the front-facing selfie performance so if you take a lot of selfies or vlog video it's not the one to go for you should definitely get the red magic 7 that has a top bezel and a bottom bezel but the top bezel houses a camera that's a normal front facing camera and that's unfortunately just what it's like with all of the under display cameras i've tested out this is the fourth now and they all do to a very very degree there exhibit all of that kind of halo blurriness effect to it especially in sunlight and artificial lights as well you do notice it so it's not amazing quality but if you never take selfies then it's not going to be a problem you get a more modern design now thermals as i showed you i was a bit surprised they're shocked in fact to see that it got up to 55 degrees now 55 degrees celsius to the touch you may not think it's that hot but it's feeling very toasty and after gaming for one hour i could just feel it like this ramping up slowly getting hotter and hotter and hotter playing away touching those triggers especially feeling the heat from the frame the frame for some reason seems to transmit more heat than the previous model so even though they've improved the airflow apparently it to me doesn't seem like the cooling is actually better in fact i'm saying it's worse so it's getting about five six maybe even seven degrees hotter the frame of the phone hotter to the touch was it which is not good now it doesn't really throttle it will throttle down about four five percent that's it but that is the cost the price we pay is it's getting quite hot there camera performance is the average so those aren't the things i really like about it but then the performance is very very good but so is the red magic 7 it's basically exactly the same kind of performance there we are gaining nothing with the performance in fact we're losing that top refresh rate with the screen from 165 to now at 120. so it is a blazing fast super quick gaming phone but i actually prefer the red magic 7. i think it's better even though maybe the design looks a little bit more dated it's got a better selfie camera the thermals are better and it's still a very very good phone for gamers out there now the battery life is another thing that it's not amazing and yes because we do have a slightly larger battery you gain an additional about 30 to 40 minutes of on-screen time which is good don't get me wrong there that's great to have that so all up it's a release that i feel is a it's a bit of a head scratcher this one is did we actually need it did they really have to release this maybe they would have been better to just hold off and wait for a newer chipset to race with this particular model here and just give us a little bit more than a under display camera even though yes it's the first gaming phone to have it maybe that's why they pushed it out so they could claim that so there we go that's my review there and my take of the red magic 7 pro\n"
