D3Live: PlayStation Vita & Wii 2

**Nintendo Wii 2: Impressed or Not?**

We've only seen a couple of screenshots, and to be honest, I'm not very impressed. Of course, it's going to be a touchscreen device, which seems to be getting rid of the standard interface that we've seen on the PSP and PS3. But on the other hand, it looks kind of childish and unfinished – a bunch of big buttons with colored ones.

Hopefully, that's not the final design, and they'll refine it and make it a little nicer-looking. From what I've seen so far, I'm definitely waiting to see if this will be any better. As someone who already owns the original Wii, I have to say that I haven't found much use for it – apart from playing Super Smash Brothers Brawl and occasionally watching Netflix.

I'm almost sure that the Wii 2 will be a lot better as far as hardcore gamers like myself are concerned. But I'll definitely have to wait and see about that. One thing that I do hope is that Minecraft Portable Edition will come to the Vita – it would be fantastic! If they can make it work with Sony's Experia Play, which is already kind of hooked up with Sony.

As for the price, I think it's going to be more expensive than the first generation Wii. Consoles usually get more expensive every year, especially with new touchscreen controllers. The PlayStation 3 was super expensive when it first came out – I don't see anything that would make me think this one will be any cheaper.

Are they still aiming the Wii 2 at families instead of gamers? That's a good question – personally, I think Nintendo needs to strike a better balance between catering to families and hardcore gamers like myself. They managed to get all kinds of people excited about video games with the original Wii, so they need to keep that audience while also appealing to us who are more into action games, racing, and first-person shooters.

**Will You Buy the Wii 2?**

Ultimately, I think it's a gamble – but more than likely, I'll probably buy the Wii 2 anyway. Do I know for sure? No, but I do own the original Wii, and it's been collecting dust for years. The Wii 2 will definitely have to be much better for me to consider upgrading.

**The Future of Nintendo**

One thing is certain – Nintendo always tries to innovate and improve with each new generation of consoles. Whether or not they'll succeed this time remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure: I'll be watching and waiting to see how the Wii 2 turns out.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys and welcome to this week's episode of D3 live so today I'm going to be talking about some of the things I expect to see next week at E3 most notably the Sony NGP as well as the Nintendo wii2 H now do keep in mind those are both code names I'm going to be talking a little bit about some of the names I expect but take all the names of the gr OFA we will definitely find out next week but I want to talk a little bit about some of my predictions what I expect to see what I'd like to see all that kind of good stuff so the first thing I want to talk about is the Sony NGP which most likely will be called the Sony PlayStation VA some kind of uh combination of that but uh yeah the Next Generation NGP psp2 whatever they're going to call it and know we already seen some about this they showed about two or three months ago they showed it off a little bit ago and we already know a lot about it but what I do expect to see is some sort of release date um hopefully we'll actually be seeing it this year rather than next year as well as a price now as far as the NGP or the VA or whatever it's going to be called as far as the price goes I think that's going to be a very very important thing and when they first showed it off there's a lot of people saying including myself it's going to be really really expensive I mean you got a 5- in OLED touch screen you got a rear touchcreen You' got quad core processor I mean there's a lot of power and a lot of Technology packed into that console so a lot of us were expecting it's going to be very very expensive however Sony has been pretty much non-stop ever since they showed it off that it's going to be very reasonable it's going to be uh Priced Right there's going to be lot they've been talking a lot about the price and how they think it's going to be really reasonable uh so the best way I can kind of think about that is compared to the 3DS which of course is $250 um now if they can come close or match that I think they will be absolutely golden I think that the NGP is a lot more Hardware it's a lot more you know technical power and all that kind of stuff than the 3DS so if they can get it in around that slot I think they will have no problem selling millions and millions and millions of them but as far as that the VA goes that's about as far as we know uh of course we know pretty much everything else of course I'm sure they'll show like some software stuff and everything but that's going to be about it as far as that goes now probably going to be a little bit more important is the next generation Nintendo Wii which I'm just going to be calling the Wii too I'm almost sure they'll come up with a better name than that but whatever so uh the Next Generation Wii has been a long time in the coming uh long time coming however the phrase goes it's been expected for several years now and there's a lot of really cool things that we're expecting uh so of course this is also officially confirmed Nintendo has said that they will be showing off the next generation of Nintendo Wii at E3 so in the next couple of days we'll be able to see it um but as far as the specs uh what features all that kind of stuff goes we have no idea but we have heard a lot about it so let me go ahead and talk a little bit about what I think and what I hope to see uh so the first thing is is that it should have some really interesting controls uh so as opposed to you know using the you know the motion controls of the Wii which was really the number one reason why people bought the Wii in my opinion anyway um this actually seems to will have some s sort of touchcreen now as far as the size the button layout all that kind of stuff I honestly have no idea we'll have to wait and see but I do expect to have some kind of controller with a screen with some physical buttons as well and most most likely with some motion sensing perhaps even cameras so uh that's really interesting on one hand I think that having a controller that's basically you know a lot like the NGP it's got all kinds of you know fancy touch screens and whatnot uh on the other hand though I'm absolutely dreading having to go down to you know my local video game store buy a new controller and it's going to be cost like you know an arm and a leg to buy one but that's kind of besides the point hopefully they'll include a couple of them in the package but who knows but uh anyway the control looks to be really impressive and as far as the console itself goes it actually should be no slouch so pretty famously the Wii has been very very uh I don't know the word I it's been very very slow compared to the PlayStation 3 and the uh Xbox 360 since it's basically uh Nintendo GameCube Hardware with just a little bit of a couple of tweaks here and there um the graphics have been nowhere near their uh counterparts and because of that it's kind of hard to make games if you know if you decide to make a game you're going to make it on the Xbox you can make it on Playstation you might have it on the PC but there's no way that that game which is going to look really nice is going to run on the Wii however they seem to be able to change this because the next Generation Wii the wii2 should have much much more powerful Hardware now there have been some leak specs online uh you know quad core processor and all kinds of stuff like that but again I don't want to get into the specifics we will find out uh next week but at any rate I do expect the Next Generation week to be a major major upgrade anyway for the second segment of D3 live I will be taking live questions from everyone in the chat So currently we have quite a few people in the room right now so let's just take some questions about the different topics and see what you guys have to say um what do I think about the OS on the PS v that's a great question um from what we've seen and do keep in mind we've only seen just a couple of screenshots really not a whole lot of in-depth stuff I'm not very impressed um of course you know it's going to be a touch screen it seems to be getting rid of the standard interface that we've seen on the PSP and the PS3 um but on the other hand it looks kind of a little uh childish a little kind of uh unfinished if you will it's just a bunch of big buttons that you just press a big bunch of colored buttons um hopefully that's not done yet hopefully they will kind of refine it make a little little bit nicer looking of an interface but from what I've seen right now I'm not impressed at all um am I going to buy the Wii too uh I honestly have no idea um more than likely I probably will but um I'm I'm waiting to see I do I do own the original Wii and I really haven't found that much of use for it I mean pretty much the only game I ever play is Super Smash Brothers Brawl and occasionally I watch a little bit of Netflix on it but mostly it's just collecting dust for the past couple years and I really hope that the wii2 I I don't hope I'm almost sure that the wii2 will be a lot better as far as for hardcore Gamers like myself but I will definitely have to wait and see about that do I think Minecraft portable edition will be on the Vita I certainly hope so uh of course you guys not familiar with Minecraft it's fantastic game and it will be coming to the Sony Experia play soon and that would be really cool since that's already kind of hooked up with Sony if they were able to bring it over to the vaita but of course we'll have to wait and see about that but again yeah that would be a fantastic idea um do I think the Wii 2 will be more expensive than the first generation uh almost definitely consoles pretty much always every year or rather every generation you know if it's $100 well the next one's going to be $200 or etc etc so yeah especially with some touchscreen controllers and whatnot um I would expect it would be more expensive but uh I don't see anything from what I've seen besides the controllers it should be like outrageously expensive like you know the PlayStation 3 was super super expensive when it first came out um I don't see anything any reason why it be that expensive um I would definitely expect it to be probably a good bit more than the Wii even was when it was brand new but um I don't think it'll be we'll see a $800 wii2 anytime soon are they still aiming the wii2 for families instead of Gamers uh you know that's a that's a good question um personally I think that they really need to strike a good balance now you know before the GameCube it was pretty much well it was kind of in the middle but it was kind of a little bit more towards Gamers but with the wi they basically like hardcore Gamers like myself they really did not focus on us at all and they you know stuff like we fit and everything which while made them lots of money um most of us who are like again hardcore Gamers we go buy an Xbox or a PlayStation or a PC we don't go find our way and go play you know Gears of War and that kind of stuff um so what I think Nintendo really needs to do is strike a fine balance they don't need to lose all these families who are like oh let's go play the Wii I mean that's a pretty big deal that you know they were able to get all kinds of people who never play video games in their life getting excited about video games so they need to keep that audience but on the other hand they really could do a lot to cater to people like me probably to cater to people like you who want to play you know some action games racing games first person shooters you know that kind of games anyway guys that's it for this week's episode of D3 live now if you enjoyed the show be sure to subscribe I do a video every week Saturday at 3:00 Eastern time so
