iPad Air 4 One Week Later! The NEW Pro iPad!

**The iPad Air: A Capable but Limited Device**

I recently had the opportunity to get my hands on the new iPad Air, and I must say that I'm impressed with its capabilities. However, there are some limitations that prevent it from being a truly great device. One of the main issues I have is with the storage options available. The base model comes with 64GB of storage, which I think is not enough for the price point they're asking. In my opinion, 128GB would be a more reasonable starting point for this device.

Another issue I have is with the Touch ID sensor. While it works accurately and quickly, I don't like having to reach up to the top of the iPad to use it. This may seem like a small thing, but it's been driving me crazy all week. I've found myself typing in my safe password instead when I need to verify something or enter sensitive information. This isn't just an iPad problem, though - I also experience this issue with my MacBooks, where the Touch ID sensor is built into the keyboard.

Now, what I wish we could do is get a range of Magic Keyboards that have Touch ID built into them. Both for regular computers and iPads, these keyboards would provide a seamless experience for users who want to use Face ID or device-based Touch ID. This would save Apple from having to make compromises with the iPad Air's design, allowing it to focus on providing a great user experience.

In terms of the iPad Air itself, I'm extremely impressed with its capabilities. It's a very capable tablet that can be built into more complex projects without breaking much of a sweat. However, if you're looking for something that's better suited for work or creative enterprises, you may want to consider the iPad Pro. At this price point, the iPad Pro offers features like Face ID, ProMotion in its display, and better storage options.

That being said, at lower price points, both the iPad Air and iPad Pro are great options. The main difference between them is the amount of storage available - which becomes a differentiator when prices start to rise. My advice would be to look for an iPad with as much storage as you can afford, regardless of whether it's the Air or Pro model.

**Accessories for the iPad Air**

If you're looking for some awesome accessories to go along with your new iPad Air, I've got just the thing for you. In my next video, I'll be showcasing some incredible accessories that will take your iPad experience to the next level. From cases and sleeves to styluses and keyboards, I'll be covering it all. So be sure to check out that video by clicking the link right here.

**Conclusion**

The iPad Air is a great device, but it's not perfect. While it has some limitations, it's still a powerful tool that can get you a lot done. If you're looking for a more affordable option, the iPad Air is definitely worth considering - especially if you don't need all the bells and whistles of the Pro model. Just be sure to factor in the storage options when making your decision.

In terms of usability features, I think the iPad Pro has a clear edge over the iPad Air at this price point. However, for those who are looking to spend less money, the iPad Air is still a great option. Ultimately, it comes down to what you need from your device - and if you're willing to compromise on some of the features that make the iPad Pro so great.

**Final Thoughts**

I hope this video has been helpful in giving you a better understanding of the iPad Air's strengths and weaknesses. As always, I appreciate your feedback and comments - and I'll see you in my next video!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthe brand new generation 4 of the apple ipad air released a little over a week ago and in that time i've used this as my primary productivity work slash creative coordination computer man try saying that creative coordination computer creative recorder i couldn't even make it twice so how has this held up is this a big enough upgrade over the last model and is it so good is it so good that you should get this over the ipad pro let's find out that wasn't too bad what's up everyone i'm the everyday dad and if i can figure it out you can figure it out so really quickly if this is your first video that you've ever seen on the ipad air let's quickly talk about the price point and some notable specs because there are a few notable specs in here that are well i mean they're notable right i mean they're good they're notable they're notable the ipad air comes in two versions a 599.64 gigabyte option and a 256 gigabyte storage option for 749 dollars plus you can get extra cellular versions for a little bit more money this new generation does come with a totally new revamped design aesthetic looking almost exactly like the ipad pro 11. it does have slightly and i mean just slightly bigger bezels but if you don't have the two right next to each other you wouldn't be able to tell what if i told you that this was the ipad pro it's not this is the ipad air but wouldn't that have been funny if you couldn't have told the difference this display is a 10.9 inch fully laminated liquid retina display that can go up to 500 nits of brightness what is in it it's a measure of brightness now you know knowledge you can tell the sunday videos because i'm all hopped up on caffeine this panel refreshes at 60 hertz but it does have the p3 color accuracy and it looks straight up fantastic another big thing this newest air brings is another borrowed feature from the ipad pro line and that's the usbc connection let's let's be honest with each other come here everything needs to have usbc on it that's a platform i'm so passionate about this that i could run for political office with just that that's my stump speech usbc for everybody this is important it gives you some serious capabilities that we'll go into a little more in depth later in the video but suffice to say it's awesome it's great every go to a thesaurus look up awesome all of those words that's what this is the next headlining feature on this tiny monster tablet is what is actually powering it the ipad air 4 is the first tablet from apple that has the a14 bionic processor inside of it and basically it's one of the most powerful chips on the market today and i don't mean powerful for tablet or powerful for a phone i just mean one of the most powerful on the market today it's got a 6 core cpu and a 4 core gpu and again much like we said with usbc on the power side we'll talk about that a little more in a couple of minutes lastly and all of the features you might be wondering about gary this has the design of the new ipad pro but you didn't mention anything about face id how am i supposed to unlock this tablet well thanks other gary my wife is always like who are you talking down there another cool thing about this specific ipad is that it has touch id without needing those huge bezels on the front to house a home button obviously there is no home button here this has a brand new sensor built into the lock button on top see that it's a little bit darker right there that's a touch id sensor this is pretty darn neat and if you're trying to figure out a way to unlock your tablet or like if you're apple trying to design a way to get to the new version but you don't have the money and you don't have the budget to put in face id technology this is a pretty elegant solution yes there are other smaller upgrades inside of the air but when we talk about big headlining features the new display usbc touch id and the a14 are easily the show steelers they're like the ball hoggers they're like the ball hoggers of specifications they don't like sharing with the rest of the team they don't pass they take all the attention for themselves as this is an x time later video we're not going to go wild we're not going to go super in depth on the tablet itself with benchmark scores or other things that don't exactly like they don't help you show what the device can do or what's good or bad about it so what we're going to do is we're going to talk about the things that i both like and the things that i dislike after i've been using this for a solid week let's start off with the things i like because i like starting off happy i'm a pretty happy guy and don't worry we can always go grumpy side we can always get to the grumpy stuff later on i'll i'll get ready we'll get the fate we'll get the grumpy face ready for later on but not right now is happy the first thing i really like is the display i love how apple has slowly been updating their tablet line and bringing it into the 21st century sure the ipad generation 8 is a darn powerful and well priced machine in its own right but those bezels and the rounded edges they look old and they look out of date especially when you compare it to what else is on the market the new ipads i mean they look fantastic and something that i'm really happy about with this display is they weren't afraid to make this look too much like the ipad pro if you saw these like i said in the beginning if you saw these one at a time it would be really hard to tell which one was which companies generally like to differentiate and segment their product lines to make sure that they don't cannibalize one with the other because why buy the higher end if you can get the same or better performance for less money that sounds like a pretty obvious way for the consumer to say i'm just going to buy the cheaper one and sometimes when companies segment like that it caused them to do some really weird things and limit their devices for no other reason than to push us into the higher end models and that's something apple could have absolutely done here they already have the ipad pro they already have a second generation of it there are some of those for sale or you can find them for budget so they could have kept us in the older designs here and updated everything else inside of it to make sure that the ipad pro was set higher and that we would have to go out and buy it but they didn't sure the ipad pro does have some better screen technology but you have to know what you are looking for to see the differences this display is bright it's vibrant very color accurate it looks so good if there was one thing to take away from today's video i want you to imagine how good this screen looks if you can safely go into an apple store near you taking your precautions go into an apple store check out the screen it will not disappoint you the next thing that i really like is that usbc connection yes it means if you have an iphone you'll need an additional charging cable but i think it's worth it basically usbc straight up gives you more options whether we're talking about accessories speed data rates it's superior in every single way and when you want to use when you decide that you want to use this ipad for more than just passive consumption what it is great for passive consumption i watch a lot of stuff on my ipads usbc gives you a fantastic way to add more ports and capabilities to this tablet from dongles to chargers to sd card adapters to monitors to everything this port this small change allows for an almost lego-like way for you to build whatever you want around the ipad we've shown some of my favorite accessories in videos past but you can basically turn this you can take this tablet and turn it into anything adding on to this is not a whole thing that i like on its own but a 0.5 amount of thing that i like the ipad 4 has the same smart connector on the back as the ipad pro meaning what this really means is you get my absolute favorite ipad accessory okay let's gary gary let's be honest with ourselves probably my favorite accessory of all time you get the magic keyboard this thing is this will change how you use an ipad and you can use the exact same magic keyboard from the ipad pro this is the one that i use with my 11 inch ipad pro and i get it 100 at 299 dollars this is a crazy expensive accessory for a tablet that potentially only costs 599 dollars but i do think i wouldn't say if i didn't mean it i do think that if you want to get work done with any ipad this is the best option look at all this together look at that it's a notebook that has the functionality of just like the internet it's so good that doesn't mean it's the only option though you can do roughly the same thing for far less with a a keyboard a mouse you can spend like 20 30 bucks tops and get the same functionality but it's nicer when it's all in one and this thing the coolest thing about the magic keyboard is its lap ability like this works in a lap really well when we lump all of this together i just really like how the ipad air handles accessory it has an almost unlimited options for them and i like options if you've noticed anything from these videos and all the accessory gadget videos i like making i like options next up in the things i like and again this is a headlining feature the power oh my goodness the power i cannot i legitimately cannot think of another 600 tablet computer whatever i can't think of anything else to cost 600 bucks that is rocking this level of performance the only thing that's close is the iphone 12 but let's let's search around and see what we could buy for 600 bucks and i did i did some background research and really the only thing that i could find in this price point that was actually in stock is the asus vivobook s15 with the ryzen chip and you can find that for 699 this laptop it is rocking an obscenely very powerful ryzen 4700u processor eight gigabytes of ram and a one terabyte solid state drive and it in researching this that actually looks like a pretty powerful little laptop but it's a laptop a laptop with no dedicated graphics and it will have much worse thermals or jet engine loud fans and it's just it's so gigantic compared to the ipad like this look at that that's the magic this is a and not just the magic keyboard that's the magic of the ipad they are as powerful or more powerful than actual laptops actual computers but in a much much smaller package that is easily this thing and all of its ilk are easily the best thermally managed devices in all of the technology world and what's crazy about that is we've got this monster processor in a machine that's hyper specialized to work with its app so the software in the ipad is laser focused on your app so this is the fastest single digital tool that i've ever seen whatever app you choose to work on will fly and much like all the other ipads if you do want some dual screen capabilities you can have two apps open at once on this thing and have them work seamlessly the most power hungry task that i do on these tablets just to show how powerful they actually are is i do like to run some video editing tests and that is if you don't know video editing is a very tough multi-core and graphics test on any computer and the ipad air easily outperforms my much more expensive bigger and just a laptop it's much better than my macbook pro 16. this thing handles 4k 10 bit files for my lumix s5 no problem and when it came to exporting it rendered three layers of 4k footage in faster than real time to h.264 there's a lot of like technical jargon in there so if you aren't a big video nerd you'll just have to take my word here that's lightning fast what this all boils down to like in a real sense is you do not have to worry about the power if you buy the ipad air it's remarkably powerful and because of that power you'll have longevity you'll get updates on this thing for the foreseeable future however in this world nothing is perfect and as much as i like the ipad pair for all of the awesome things that we've just talked about this does have some faults and it hurts me hurts me right here when we got to talk about ipad faults because i don't like them but first up in the things that i don't like i don't like the storage options 64 gigabytes and 256 gigabytes those are weird options and i tried thinking of a better way to say that when i was writing the script for this video it's just weird 64 gigabytes of storage for a 600 device it's too low i'm a product manager in my day job so i get that you can't have everything at a certain price point the display the processor the usbc and touch id sensors they aren't cheap and it is a zero-sum game the tablet has to make money i get all that but 64 gigabytes it just isn't enough for the money they are asking that would be fine 64 gigabytes would be fine if this was the 329 dollar ipad generation 8 base model for 600 i think we should have 128 gigabytes at the base we do have to dance around that product segmentation between this and the ipad pro you can't exactly offer more power with the same storage for less money if they want to keep selling the pros i totally get that more power to apple for them to be able to sell what they want to sell and they are obviously selling a ton of these it's almost 20 21. anything less than 128 gigabytes better have a roughly 300 price tag the other thing that i don't like was a shock to me it was a shock to me because of how much i talked this up before i actually got my hands on it and you might have noticed that i didn't talk too much about the touch id sensor in the things i like because surprisingly enough i don't really like the touch id sensor all that much that's not because it doesn't work it's accurate it's fast it functions great my problem is less about the touch id and more that in the way that i use ipads if i'm looking to verify something or enter a safe password i don't like having to reach up and touch the top of the ipad to do that it sounds like a small thing but it's been driving me crazy all week and i'll just now when it comes up to needing to use that i'll just type in my safe password myself it takes roughly the same amount of time password touch id it's the same thing if you are coming from an ipad that only has touch id this might not bother you as much but i use the ipad pro all the time as my traditional work tool and being able to seamlessly verify with my face it's so awesome and you really it's so it's very very noticeable when it's gone you don't realize what you have until you don't have it anymore this isn't just an ipad problem though this is a similar issue that i have with the macbooks they have touch id built into their keyboards but if i have it in desktop mode i can't really use the touch id anymore and i just need to type everything in normally anyway so it's a macbook and an ipad air problem now what i wish we could do i don't only complain i come with solutions i wish we could get a range of magic keyboards that have touch id built into them both for regular computers and the ipad magic keyboard i think would be a better solution overall than either face id or device based touch id and that would save it so that those of us that want that feature could pay for it with the accessory and not necessarily pay for with the tablet those are really though those are the only two things that i don't like and neither of those are deal breakers the ipad air is a very capable tablet that can be built into more and it can do so without breaking much of a sweat but at the end of the day so what right is the ipad air worth buying when the ipad pro exists like we said in the comparison video if you are looking to spend the least amount of money possible get the ipad air for 599 this thing is way more powerful and capable than it has any right to be and i'm darn impressed good good job apple but it's not all i said it was not super seamless right but if you are looking for something that is better for work or creative enterprises i would look for something with more storage and when we start talking about 799 or 749 the price evaporates as a differentiator and i do think that if you're going to spend that money the ipad pro has more usability features like face id pro motion in its display better storage options brighter screen better speakers it's just it has the edge over the ipad air when you start talking similar price points though either is a great option and what i would do if i were looking for one i would look for one that has the most amount of storage that you can afford at the least amount of money right that's what i would use as the differentiator the amount of storage you can get for the least amount of money you won't want for power performance on either tablet and if you like this video and you want to see some awesome accessories that you can get for the ipad air this guy right here good news for you i got a video just for that and you can find it by clicking like a small thing but it's been driving me crazy all week and i'll just now when it comes up to needing to use that i'll just type in my safe password myself it takes roughly the same amount of time password touch id it's the same thing if you are coming from an ipad that only has touch id this might not bother you as much but i use the ipad pro all the time as my traditional work tool and being able to seamlessly verify with my face it's so awesome and you really it's so it's very very noticeable when it's gone you don't realize what you have until you don't have it anymore this isn't just an ipad problem though this is a similar issue that i have with the macbooks they have touch id built into their keyboards but if i have it in desktop mode i can't really use the touch id anymore and i just need to type everything in normally anyway so it's a macbook and an ipad air problem now what i wish we could do i don't only complain i come with solutions i wish we could get a range of magic keyboards that have touch id built into them both for regular computers and the ipad magic keyboard i think would be a better solution overall than either face id or device based touch id and that would save it so that those of us that want that feature could pay for it with the accessory and not necessarily pay for with the tablet those are really though those are the only two things that i don't like and neither of those are deal breakers the ipad air is a very capable tablet that can be built into more and it can do so without breaking much of a sweat but at the end of the day so what right is the ipad air worth buying when the ipad pro exists like we said in the comparison video if you are looking to spend the least amount of money possible get the ipad air for 599 this thing is way more powerful and capable than it has any right to be and i'm darn impressed good good job apple but it's not all i said it was not super seamless right but if you are looking for something that is better for work or creative enterprises i would look for something with more storage and when we start talking about 799 or 749 the price evaporates as a differentiator and i do think that if you're going to spend that money the ipad pro has more usability features like face id pro motion in its display better storage options brighter screen better speakers it's just it has the edge over the ipad air when you start talking similar price points though either is a great option and what i would do if i were looking for one i would look for one that has the most amount of storage that you can afford at the least amount of money right that's what i would use as the differentiator the amount of storage you can get for the least amount of money you won't want for power performance on either tablet and if you like this video and you want to see some awesome accessories that you can get for the ipad air this guy right here good news for you i got a video just for that and you can
