LG G4 First Impressions
# First Impressions of the LG G4: A Detailed Review
## Introduction
Hello everyone, and welcome back! Tech me out here, and I’m thrilled to introduce you to the LG G4. I recently had the opportunity to get a review unit, and while a full-fledged review is still in the works (likely coming soon within the next week or two), I wanted to share my initial thoughts and impressions with you.
## Unboxing Experience
For those curious about what comes inside the box, it’s pretty straightforward: the phone itself, its battery, and a charger. That’s all there is to it. The model I have in hand is the metallic gray version, and so far, I’m really pleased with how this device feels and functions.
## Display: A Visual Treat
One of the standout features of the LG G4 is its 5.5-inch Quad HD display. It’s absolutely stunning, with thin bezels that make it look sleek and modern. Comparing it to my current daily driver, the iPhone 6, the difference in screen quality is night and day. Even the lock screen looks incredible, and having such a high-resolution display makes every detail pop. The slightly curved body of the phone also enhances its appearance, making it feel more premium despite some initial reservations about its build quality.
## Build Quality: A Dual刃
The LG G4 has a removable back, which I found interesting. While the design is unique and functional, my first impression of the back is... well, let’s say it didn’t quite meet my expectations in terms of feel. It has a somewhat “dummy phone” type of texture, which might not be to everyone’s taste. In comparison, my iPhone 6 and even the Samsung Galaxy S6 feel more premium to me. That said, there is a diamond pattern on the back with indentions that you can feel. If this matters to you or not is subjective, but it definitely adds some texture to the device.
## Hardware Features: Under the Hood
Underneath the removable back, you’ll find a 3,000mAh battery, which should provide solid all-day usage. There’s also a Micro SD card slot and SIM card slot on the back of the phone, leaving the sides completely free of buttons or ports—something I’m actually quite happy about. The placement of the home button and volume controls on the back is a new change for me, but it hasn’t been too difficult to adapt to. It does take some getting used to since I’m so惯uated to having those buttons on the sides of my phone.
## Camera: A Newfound Favorite
Another highlight of the LG G4 is its 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture. The photos I’ve taken so far have blown me away—I was genuinely impressed, especially considering how much I’ve been enjoying my iPhone camera lately. The images are vibrant and detailed, and they look fantastic on the phone’s high-quality display.
## Speaker Placement: A Minor Flaw
One area where the LG G4 falls short is its speaker placement. It’s located at the bottom of the device, facing backward, which often gets blocked by my hand when I’m holding the phone. This is something that slightly bothers me, but aside from that, I’ve had a great experience with the audio quality otherwise.
## Software: A Clean and Familiar Interface
The LG G4 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with LG’s custom UI overlay. Coming from the minimalistic interface of my iPhone, I’m finding this to be a nice change of pace. It does a lot of what I previously rooted my HTC device for, right out of the box. While I’ll delve into more details in my full review, I’m quite pleased with how smooth and responsive the software feels so far.
## Closing Remarks
Overall, despite some minor issues with build quality and speaker placement, I’m really enjoying my time with the LG G4. The display is stunning, the camera performs exceptionally well, and the curved design makes it feel comfortable to hold—even though it’s a larger phone, it doesn’t feel cumbersome at all.
If you’re as curious as I was about this device or if you’re considering making the switch from an iPhone or another brand, be sure to follow my social media channels for updates on when my full review will drop. I’ll be posting plenty of behind-the-scenes content and giving early access to my announcements there first.
