Lenovo ThinkPad 25 Anniversary Edition HANDS-ON! Commemorating The ThinkPad

The Lenovo ThinkPad 25 Anniversary Edition: A Look at its Features and Specifications

Upon first glance, the Lenovo ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition is a well-appointed notebook that boasts an impressive array of features and specifications. As we take a closer look at this machine, it becomes clear that it's designed for professionals who require high-performance capabilities without sacrificing portability or style.

One of the standout features of the ThinkPad 25 is its speaker system, which includes two speakers located on the bottom of the notebook. The speaker ports and vents are also visible, giving the device a premium feel. Moving right along to the right edge of the notebook, we find the headphone jack, USB 3 port, full-size HDMI port, USB 3 port with charge always-on capability, and a lock port. This is accompanied by a full-size Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port and an SD card slot.

On the left side of the notebook, we see the power port, another USB 3 port, a USB C thunderbolt port, and some additional venting. There's also an optional card reader, which isn't currently loaded in this particular unit. Speaking of loading up, let's take a closer look at the keyboard goodness that comes with this anniversary edition.

The keyboard is undoubtedly one of the most impressive features of the Lenovo ThinkPad 25. It boasts a spacious and comfortable design, with a matte soft touch finish that's both stylish and practical. The trackpad is similarly well-appointed, with three buttons for control and a curved cutout design that provides ample room to move around. We also see the classic ThinkPad RGB logo, which adds a touch of nostalgia to this modern machine.

One of the most notable features of the keyboard is its use of blue-coated keys, which are designed to provide optimal typing performance. This attention to detail isn't limited to just aesthetics – we're looking at a well-designed and well-built piece of hardware that's sure to withstand even the most intense typing sessions.

As we move on to the display, it becomes clear that this is no ordinary notebook. The Lenovo ThinkPad 25 features an impressive 14-inch Full HD 1080p display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This means that users can expect crisp visuals and good brightness contrast – although we do notice that the panel is semi-gloss, rather than full-gloss. To combat this, Lenovo has applied an anti-glare coating to reduce reflections and improve overall visibility.

Another notable feature on this notebook is its facial recognition camera, which works in tandem with Windows Hello to provide an additional layer of security. We also see a fingerprint sensor built into the device itself, offering users another convenient way to unlock their machine. In terms of performance, we're looking at a Samsung 512 GB NVMe solid-state drive that provides some impressive speeds.

In terms of system specs, this ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition is powered by an Intel Core i7-7500U dual-core processor with a base frequency of 2.7 GHz and a boost clock speed of 3.5 GHz. The notebook also features 16 GB of DDR4 RAM at 20 GB/s, which should provide ample memory for users to run multiple applications simultaneously.

Perhaps the most surprising feature of this machine is its discreet NVIDIA GeForce 940 MX GPU, which provides significant performance boosts over integrated graphics solutions like Intel HD 620. This results in impressive scores on benchmarks like 3DMark SkyDiver – with a result of around 7600 points, significantly higher than what we'd expect from an Intel HD 620-based system.

With that said, let's summarize our experience with the Lenovo ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition:

The Lenovo ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition is a machine designed for professionals who need high-performance capabilities without sacrificing portability or style. Its well-appointed keyboard boasts a spacious and comfortable design, while its display provides crisp visuals and good brightness contrast.

As we explore the notebook's features and specifications further, it becomes clear that this machine is built to last. With its discreet NVIDIA GeForce 940 MX GPU providing significant performance boosts over integrated graphics solutions, users can expect snappy boot times and fast application load times – not to mention improved system responsiveness in general.

With all these features and specs packed into one machine, the Lenovo ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition is a solid choice for professionals looking for a reliable workhorse that won't break the bank. Whether you're an avid gamer, content creator, or just someone who needs a dependable machine for everyday tasks, this notebook has something to offer.

the system is in we'll get to that momentarily over on the right here is another box that Lenovo sent us gotta love that RGB ThinkPad logo here huh and this box looks a lot like a big old boat anchor style laptop from days gone by that you almost couldn't even call a laptop but as you can see we've got various latches and ports and power plugs it looks like a ps2 plug actually for plugging in your mouse your ps2 mouse and bay doors here it's fashioned in the shape of a big old boat anchor laptop from days gone by a big old boat anchor think pad let's go ahead and open this up and see what is inside so we've put aside the ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition box in the back here let's take a look what appears to be the ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition swag box that's just a guess I flip this open and yeah that's looking pretty swaggy nice presentation 25 years of history a little letter here we'll look at that in a moment but you see we've got a couple of LED lights here our 25th anniversary it's only natural to take a look back at our accomplishments but we're not a company to rest on our laurels in fact part of what's helped us get where we are is our constant need to always look forward that's what that says right there plus a whole bunch of other stuff the letter here which I will read briefly clover from ThinkPad it's been a long design and engineering journey since we made the first one in 1992 25 years coming up on October 5th that would be today with this in mind we wanted to brief you on some of the ThinkPad brands most important milestones in a different way this look back shows how far we've come and the limitless possibilities for the next 25 years the Box you're receiving is a replica of the original ThinkPad 700 Co that's what that is that's a 700 seed design laptop one of the first of its kind it measured eleven point seven by eight point three by two point two inches high and weighed nearly eight pounds that's what you call a boat anchor alright compare this with our thinnest and lightest ThinkPad laptop the x1 carbon the x1 carbon is three times lighter only 30% of the thickness and has 347 thousand times faster transfer rate and a thousand twenty four more times more memory then the 700 C from years gone by open the cover and then at the top of the screen you'll find the model think light for years this innovation let you type in the dark until of course the backlit keyboard came along and yes that's what we've got right there a couple of LEDs reminiscent of the think light let's take a look at the rest of this swag here we've got a little chocolate ThinkPad keyboard and trackpad very nice and looks tasty I will dig into that later and we've got 25 years of ThinkPad history nice little decorative leaflet Wow look at that man cd-rom drives remember those nobody uses them much anymore so good stuff all the way from what looks like 92 the old boat anchor 700 C they're not gonna let me call it a boat anchor I bet all the way up to today with first two and one with OLED display one of my favorites the x-1 yoga in the x1 carbon good stuff this is a very large TrackPoint nub very nice that back and think future a little notebook excellent so that that basically wraps up the swag portion of the unboxing let's get to the good stuff so let's go ahead and unbox the ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition itself the system itself excuse my gorilla arms this cover is rather snug there we go that's better okay so you can see this oh wait am i man you gotta see this watch the red watch the red when I open these doors it's kind of cool see the red see the red come up let's do that again red comes up nice that is the bento box style of packaging that lenovo says is reminiscent of the 1992 ThinkPad let's go ahead and remove this protective sleeve this is the system in here I can feel it we'll look at that in a minute we've got what appears to be separate individual track point nubs here just little nubs from all the different designs over the years kind of a concave one here convex with little grip ease on it and then that one was used for a long time just almost like a simple little eraser head you can see that let's take you in a little tighter yeah there you go so you can see those and then let's pull this out a little little literature think pad design spirit in essence lots of different bits of information simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication equipped by Leonardo da Vinci one of my favorites actually it's one of my son's favorites he's an aspiring electrical engineer and that is one of his favorite simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication see what else is in here slide the system aside momentarily bring this a little closer for you let's tilt the camera down yeah okay what else we got in here I'll see if I can get my grubby mitts in lift that out okay I've got a couple of doors here this looks to be a rather empty lit packed box yes this is the this is the ThinkPad safety warranty and set-up guide you get a set-up guide here I don't know if you can see this close but removable battery removable battery that's kind of cool not something you see everyday in notebooks these days let's see what else we got this is probably this is my guess now just a hunch it's feeling like it this is in fact the removable battery for the ThinkPad 25 this is an additional external 24 watt hour battery that plugs into the machine and there's also a 24 watt hour internal battery as well let's go ahead and set that aside and yes we have the traditional think pad Lenovo AC adapter nice and tiny and lenovo's custom power adapter connector which looks a lot like a u.s. almost like a square USB port a male connector so there you go that's what's in the box now let's look it's what's in that protective sleeve this is very snug by the way there it is Lenovo ThinkPad 25 rocking that let's spin that around rocking that good old RGB ThinkPad logo soft touch matte black finish all around and let's give it a little flip here you can see you're looking at the underneath we've got a dock port here and yes let's drop in this here a replaceable battery right now boom snaps into place we are locked and loaded now the other cool thing about this battery setup since there's two batteries an internal and this external battery the system actually drains the external battery first so that when you're swapping the battery out the internal battery takes over keeping the notebook up and running while you swap the batteries so pretty cool feature nice to have and if you keep a battery in your bag you get that much more staying power on the bottom here you've got rubber skid feet on all four corners very well made two speakers here on the bottom as well speaker ports venting and let's take a walk around right edge the right edge here we've got headphone jack USB 3 port full size HDMI USB 3 port with charge always-on charge capability full size Gigabit Ethernet rj45 port nice SD card slot gotta love that and a lock port on the back we've got hinges and not much else and here we are on the left side power port another USB 3 port USB C thunderbolt port and some venting I think this is an optional card reader here as well which is not loaded in there but let's go ahead and open this baby up so we can take a look at some seriously good keyboard goodness and opening the lid for the first time of Lenovo ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition there it is probably one of the most well-appointed notebook keyboards you will ever lay eyes on let's take you in tight here so the trackpad is very spacious a matte soft touch finish here really comfortable three button control and this design is similar to what you will find in some of the current notebooks from a lenovo like the x1 carbon series for example you've got that classic ThinkPad RGB logo here gotta love that with the retro going on curved cutouts here underneath the left right up and down arrows very comfortable in there of course that blue color coated in Turkey got to have the blue color coated in Turkey so you can't miss it let's look up top here we've got a speaker mute unmute button volume rocker up and down a microphone mute unmute button and the power button delete key really large up top here by the home and end key and dedicated page up and page down keys also if you hit the function button here you can go ahead and turn it on and off the backlit keyboard and the Escape key up here real large as well so really comfortable very rigid typing deck by the way very spacious you could bang on a ton of words per minute on this puppy I am sure an absolute warhorse keyboard soft touch matte finish all around and just real comfortable very well made and yeah just ready for action now in terms of the display the Lenovo ThinkPad 25 has lenovo's 14 inch Full HD 1080p display 1920 by 1080 resolution as you can see good brightness contrast color and pop here I would say it is a semi-gloss panel but with anti-glare coating on it so not that glossy and also as you can see up top here we've got a Windows hello camera for facial recognition so additional security in addition to the fingerprint sensor that's built into the ThinkPad 25 as well and in terms of general performance our think that 25 came installed with a Samsung 512 gig nvme solid-state drive so as you can see it's pushing about 1.7 gigabytes per second for reads and about 1.5 gigabytes per second for writes which is going to translate to pretty snappy boot times fast application load times in general system responsiveness that should feel pretty crisp so as far as the rest of the system specs go this ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition is powered by an Intel Core i7 7500 u dual core processor with a base frequency of 2.7 gigahertz and a boost of 3.5 gigahertz it also has 16 gigabytes of ddr4 20 400 megahertz system memory and again that 512 gig nvme solid-state drive as well as a discreet nvidia geforce 940 MX GPU so it has a discrete graphics processor under the hood as well to assist in gaming and graphics workloads like 3d mark sky diver that you're looking at here it's going to actually score about 7600 3d mark points which compared to Intel HD 620 graphics integrated graphics in KB Lake for the processor that's in the machine that score 7600 3d marks or so that's what we're going to come up with that score is significantly faster than Intel HD 620 graphics which score typically have been the mid 4,000 so a nice kicker a nice boost here as you can see 7600 3d mark points for the machine a nice boost in graphics horsepower with that discrete GPU for the ThinkPad 25 anniversary edition and that about wraps up our quick take a look at the
