I've given have been pretty spoiler free but I think any other updates would kind of ruin the plot and what happened so vampires I think they're back I'm gonna I mean to say it now I think vampires are back I really enjoyed this I think I'm gonna be giving it four stars I think the ending was a little bit lackluster but I do think it sets up the next book in the series very well and I'm not sure if this is gonna be more than a duology I know that that's kind of all Renee has written in the past but I don't know I enjoyed s like I don't know what else to say I think that the plot is intriguing I will say there were little things that I didn't like the reason that the two main characters have to be apart Bastian and Selene I thought it was kind of stupid and played out like definitely something that's already been done before and definitely wasn't a convincing thing for me a couple of other things didn't make sense not in a this is a logical sort of way but in a like I need more background information sort of why so I'm hoping that in the next installment a lot of the questions that I have will be answered but the question of like who as a vampire is answered the question of who the killer is is answered and then the question of are there more than just vampires in this world that's answered as well so I am happy with it very interested to see where the lore goes at the end connections between the different people because again I'm pretty sure I mentioned that there's like the fallen and the Brotherhood and we're not really sure who's who and like if they don't like each other like what that means but I think we've kind of gotten a little bit more insight into what that means I'm like that not all supernatural creatures are friends so yeah I don't you know it was fun I liked reading this I think it was very atmospheric I think it did live up to the promise it definitely
I didn't have super high expectations probably because of the negative reviews I've seen of this but yeah I'm happy with it I enjoyed it and I think vampires are back so that's a great feeling for me. I'm really excited that I got to read this it's my most anticipated release of the year I'm glad I got to read it on camera with you guys so um next video coming should be more exciting I think we'll see I love you guys so much and until next time
The book is written by Renee Ahdieh and was released in 2021. The author has a reputation for writing atmospheric and engaging stories, particularly in the young adult genre. This particular book is part of a series that has gained a significant following among readers who enjoy supernatural fiction.
One of the things that sets this book apart from others in the same genre is its unique take on vampire lore. The author has stated that she wanted to explore the idea of vampires as more than just romanticized creatures, but rather as complex and nuanced beings with their own motivations and conflicts. This approach pays off, as the story delves deep into the inner workings of the vampire world and raises questions about morality, power, and identity.
Another notable aspect of this book is its use of historical context. The author has woven elements of historical fiction into the narrative, incorporating real-world events and figures to add depth and complexity to the story. This approach helps to create a sense of realism and immersion, drawing readers into the world of the novel.
The writing style in this book is also noteworthy. Ahdieh's prose is lyrical and evocative, conjuring vivid images of the characters and settings with ease. The author has a clear talent for crafting sentences that are both poetic and accessible, making the narrative feel engaging and easy to follow.
In terms of pacing, the book moves at a moderate pace, which suits the tone of the story. Some readers may find certain sections slow or overly descriptive, but overall, the book feels well-balanced and engaging from start to finish.
One potential criticism of this book is its length. With 400 pages, it's a significant commitment for any reader. However, for fans of Ahdieh's work and those who enjoy immersive storytelling, the extra page count may be worth it.
The ending of the book sets up the next installment in the series, which promises to answer some of the questions left unanswered in this volume. For readers who have become invested in the world and characters created by Ahdieh, this is an exciting development. Whether or not the subsequent books will live up to expectations remains to be seen, but for now, fans can bask in the glow of a job well done.
Overall, this book has been a welcome surprise for many readers, offering a unique take on vampire lore and a compelling narrative that draws listeners in. While it may have its flaws, the book's strengths far outweigh its weaknesses, making it a solid addition to any fantasy or supernatural fiction collection.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello and welcome back to my channel today I'm going to be answering that age-old question are vampires back so I don't know I feel like this is my most anticipated book of the year like besides queen of nothing this is what I have been waiting for you know the return of vampires if you didn't know which I'm sure you do I love Twilight I love vampires I like dark kind of Gothic tales and this should be everything that I like it is a historical fiction II of vampire tale set in New Orleans which like those are all buzzwords for me well except for historical fiction I'm like hit or miss on that but like historical New Orleans I'm down for it I'm here for it but I'm kind of scared because all of the initial reviews that I've seen of this book have been mediocre I don't think I've seen anybody that I trust give this book more than three stars most of the complaints that I've heard are that they don't like Renee audio's writing and that there aren't very many vampires I tend to like Renee audio's writing I really liked the wrath and the dawn which was part of the reason I was so excited for this and while I love vampires if the book is well written otherwise I should probably like the book No so I set out to see if vampires are back to see if this book is really I don't want to say as bad as people say it is is it as mediocre as everybody says it is I don't know we're gonna find out it is 7:48 on a Monday night and this book comes out Tuesday so I kind of need to get all of this read tonight and maybe a little bit tomorrow but pretty much all tonight but I'm excited I'm ready I'm ready to take on this task so that is what I'm going to be doing tonight this is going to be a thorough in depth like read along with me sort of video if you don't want to see that you don't want to know about the plot of this book maybe don't watch it I'm going to try to keep it spoiler free I'll put any true spoilers as warnings you know on the screen yeah that that's that's what this video is stay tuned so I thought I was gonna stay on my like fancy camera but I'm not fancy and to get this done I needed to do it on my blog in cameras I hope you don't mind the quality change but I'm 40 pages into this and there's already a vampire so I don't really understand where did the no vampire complaints are coming from there's alternating points of view on this we have our main character Selene who is just arrived in New Orleans to live in a convent because something terrible has happened in her past and she has been sent to New Orleans from France to live in a convent and then the other point of view is an unnamed character who is clearly a vampire he has already murdered someone petting her but I'm assuming he's a vampire because he says that he's immortal and he refers to women as mules so yeah there's definitely vampires but like I said that's basically I mean that's kind of actually all that I like know thus far we've got Salim our main character and then this unnamed person and what's happened is Celine has arrived with convent and she and a few of the other girls that came to the convent but the same purpose-- are in charge of selling stuff to like support the convent and one day a woman comes by and offers to buy some handkerchiefs at Celine has sown because Celine used to be a liked dressmaker in France like a really good dressmaker and the woman asks like hey could you also maybe do a dress for me for this like masquerade ball Slean agrees no like she knows that the head nun is not gonna be too happy about this but she ends up getting permission to go with like a chaperone essentially to take measurements for this woman I think her name is Oded I'm having a feeling Odette might be a vampire herself but like anyway - what's happened to the atmosphere I'm liking so far I think it's like a little bit too wordy and maybe a little bit too flowery for my taste but it's not terrible and like it's not as boring as I had anticipated definitely not like a super page-turner yet but like I'm not mad at it like it's not terrible okay so they have gotten to Odette's and Odette is in a den of iniquity above a very fancy restaurant and pretty sure she's a vampire there's like little hints to let you know she's wearing men's pants and her cravat like tie or whatever is tied in the Regency style which is not the 1870's which is when this book is set our main character Selene points out that she's never seen the style before so I'm like she's definitely not from this time period and that's why she looks like this so your vampires a foot okay breathe good okay so our murderer friend has shed some more light on what creatures might be afoot and I say shed some light he actually just made things more confusing so the guy who's unnamed the vampire who has been murdering people basically says that there is the fallen and the Brotherhood do I know what that means no I'm guessing that he's the Fallen and then the court of lions is the Brotherhood and that there's some sort of divide whether they're all vampires I don't know whether it's vampires versus like prior hunters or werewolves I don't really know but I'm intrigued the only thing that we have really been told for sure is that members of the Court of Lions have like powers because we know that we know from only as touch one of the members of the court of lions can put someone to sleep and then we also know that Odette has the power of divination or being able to kind of tell the future so that's kind of where we're at I think super exciting has happened like I said that girl got murdered and since Selene was present and her chaperone were present they both had to be interviewed by a detective named Michael and you can tell that there is some tension between Michael and Sebastiaan I'm realizing that I never explained his fast yet as he's basically the lab in trust who is like mysterious and dark and handsome he's like the head of the court of lions and Selene met him through a dad but apparently they both went to West Point together and Sebastian dropped out because he was like a and then I think Michael actually finished so obviously a lot of character names being thrown around but that's just I think the nature of this book and I think that's probably why it can be so confusing for some people because there are a lot of names a lot of people to keep straight but I'm not having too hard of a time it's not too unbearable like I said I'm I'm just enjoying the journey I am liking the tone of this and it kind of is reminiscent of the originals to be honest it is like obviously very historical and I can get why some people are very bored by the tone and the pacing of this because we are halfway through and there hasn't been a lot of like crazy plot thrown in it's definitely the setup for the sequel but I'm not I'm really not mad at it like I'm enjoying I'm enjoying the ride like it's fun I also will say before I go that there is a lot of diversity in this which I'm appreciating and I think that it's a really good inclusion because if you didn't know New Orleans is very diverse place and it been diverse since basically the inception of the port city it seemed to be a more accepting place back in the day I mean that's not to say that there wasn't racism post slavery but I do think the culture there is really cool and it's a it's a cool place to take things so already we have an Indian character and then the detective Michael he is Italian and black I believe Sebastian is Latin ex of some sort and then our main character Selene is Asian at least half Asian I would say but apparently she doesn't look very Asian and so she's able to kind of be white passing I guess you could say which affords her you know certain amount of privilege in the society but like I said I'm appreciating the fact that there is that diversity and it's talked about it is definitely casual but there is talk of like the Indian character him not being able to be a practicing attorney even though like he has the credentials because he is Indian and you know like that's just not something that is done in America at the time so that kind of sucks but like I said I'm appreciating the diversity in it so far so I'm liking it it's good but it is 9:40 and I'm tired and I really need to wash my gross hair so I'm gonna do that and I will check in with you guys tomorrow I'm sorry that I couldn't get this posted on the morning of release day but hopefully like the same day counts right okay so which is Tuesday and the beautiful is officially out in the world so I thought I would update you guys on my feelings since we last spoke I am now on page 302 which means I have like four hundred and twenty pages left and things have happened so basically there's been another murder and Celine has officially been kicked out of the convent the murder ended up occurring at the convent so the Mother Superior decided that it is not okay for Celine to live there anymore at the same time Celine is getting increasingly suspicious that these deaths are not necessarily being carried out by a human and we're also getting more insight into kind of I say inside we're getting more point of view from the murderer and he definitely has a bone to pick with Bastian and it's interesting there's also been some more like a sexual tension between Bastian and Celine which has been pretty nice I was kind of worried there for a second there would be some in still up but it seems like they are definitely attracted to each other but not like making moves which I'm appreciating feel like I'm kind of all over the place in my update another thing is I want to say in the beginning of this I said that Bastian was Italian I swear one of these characters like in Italian and black but Michael is the Italian he's actually tie you know and then his mother was a free person of color so he is black as well I'm pretty sure I originally said he was black but he's not Italian Celine is in a very fancy hotel room where she is being put up by Odette she has struck up some sort of plan on what she is going to do to try to find the murderer or at least like foil him because he's obviously coming after Celine all of the murders have taken place kind of around where she's at and she is kind of sure that she's going to be a next victim so she has some plan that we as readers are not privy to but I think that's what's gonna happen next she's gonna go to this ball with Odette and there's going to probably be some sort of tension and hopefully like a climax of the conflict that's sort of where we're at I don't know if any of this is interesting I feel like this is not the most interesting of logs but I told you I'd give you guys like a plenty I play on the plot and how I'm feeling I'm still is invested I will say as I was yesterday I wasn't sure if this was gonna continue and along the same vein I both say feel like I've been fighting other people's opinions on this book along the way which I don't mean to do I kind of feel like this is a book that's definitely going to have people that really enjoy it but a lot of people who really don't it's not a fast-moving book it's definitely not as plot heavy or intriguing as I think a lot of people were led to believe by the synopsis of this book but I'm liking it a lot and maybe I will be maybe this will be my book like my book that I write or die for probably not at the moment I'm probably thinking like before but know that I'm enjoying it I'm excited I don't know what's gonna happen I don't know who's the vampire I don't know who's who the murderer is it was implied though again that the court of Lyons is not mortal so okay so I finished the beautiful I didn't update you guys a while I was reading mostly because I didn't want to spoil anything I feel like all of the updates I've given have been pretty spoiler free but I think any other updates would kind of ruin the plot and what happened so vampires I think they're back I'm gonna I mean to say it now I think vampires are back I really enjoyed this I think I'm gonna be giving it four stars I think the ending was a little bit lackluster but I do think it sets up the next book in the series very well and I'm not sure if this is gonna be more than a duology I know that that's kind of all renee has written in the past but I don't know I enjoyed s like I don't know what else to say I think that the plot is intriguing I will say there were little things that I didn't like the reason that the two main characters have to be apart Bastian and Selene I thought it was kind of stupid and played out like definitely something that's already been done before and definitely wasn't a convincing thing for me a couple of other things didn't make sense not in a this is a logical sort of way but in a like I need more background information sort of why so I'm hoping that in the next installment a lot of the questions that I have will be answered but the question of like who as a vampire is answered the question of who the killer is is answered and then the question of are there more than just vampires in this world that's answered as well so I am happy with it very interested to see where the lore goes at the end connections between the different people because again I'm pretty sure I mentioned that there's like the fallen and the Brotherhood and we're not really sure who's who and like if they don't like each other like what that means but I think we've kind of gotten a little bit more insight into what that means I'm like that not all supernatural creatures are friends so yeah I don't you know it was fun I liked reading this I think it was very atmospheric I think it did live up to the promise it definitely I like honestly the claims that there are no vampires and this is ridiculous to me to literally vampires from day one both in who the murderer is and then also it's pretty clear from the beginning who the vampires are or at least who the immortals are so I just want to point that out yeah I don't know I like this I'm very excited to get to the sequel The Damned which is I think coming out next year or in 2021 I'm not really sure about I don't really know what else to say besides this is really good and then I definitely recommend it like I said I don't think this is going to be for everyone I think I would recommend this to people who have enjoyed Renee audio's books in the past if you did not like her previous books this one is not that much of a far cry from her other ones so I wouldn't recommend this one if you didn't like her out-there stuff if you did like the Rathnam the dawn I would say if you also like historical fiction and perhaps you like the diviners I think this is also a book you might like because it's very slow loving like I said it reads like a storm collection there's a lot of description I mean it's 400 pages I do think the length is maybe a little bit long I think of the beginning 150 pages of this could be cut down a little bit I think Ali from hardback order pointed up that like the synopsis of this book on the back takes up about 200 pages of the book and that's like pretty accurate but it didn't bother me because I didn't even read the synopsis but like I definitely think some things could be you know trimmed down probably like this vlog could have been trimmed down and I could have talked a little less I know yeah like I said I mean I don't really have any other thoughts dad I think this was a really fun book it definitely in my opinion lived up to my expectations I didn't have super high expectations probably because of the negative reviews I've seen of this but yeah I'm happy with it I enjoyed it and I think vampires you're back I hope this opens the door for more authors to be able to write their own vampire tales and get them published because I know you know once the market gets oversaturated things take a wild but like I'm ready for vampires to be back so that's it I hope you guys didn't completely hate this I know this is probably the most boring video that's gone up on my channel but I'm really excited that I got to read this it's my most anticipated release of the year I'm glad I got to read it on camera with you guys so um next video coming should be more exciting I think we'll see I love you guys so much and until next timehello and welcome back to my channel today I'm going to be answering that definitely I like honestly the claims that there are no vampires and this is ridiculous to me to literally vampires from day one both in who the murderer is and then also it's pretty clear from the beginning who the vampires are or at least who the immortals are so I just want to point that out yeah I don't know I like this I'm very excited to get to the sequel The Damned which is I think coming out next year or in 2021 I'm not really sure about I don't really know what else to say besides this is really good and then I definitely recommend it like I said I don't think this is going to be for everyone I think I would recommend this to people who have enjoyed Renee audio's books in the past if you did not like her previous books this one is not that much of a far cry from her other ones so I wouldn't recommend this one if you didn't like her out-there stuff if you did like the Rathnam the dawn I would say if you also like historical fiction and perhaps you like the diviners I think this is also a book you might like because it's very slow loving like I said it reads like a storm collection there's a lot of description I mean it's 400 pages I do think the length is maybe a little bit long I think of the beginning 150 pages of this could be cut down a little bit I think Ali from hardback order pointed up that like the synopsis of this book on the back takes up about 200 pages of the book and that's like pretty accurate but it didn't bother me because I didn't even read the synopsis but like I definitely think some things could be you know trimmed down probably like this vlog could have been trimmed down and I could have talked a little less I know yeah like I said I mean I don't really have any other thoughts dad I think this was a really fun book it definitely in my opinion lived up to my expectations I didn't have super high expectations probably because of the negative reviews I've seen of this but yeah I'm happy with it I enjoyed it and I think vampires you're back I hope this opens the door for more authors to be able to write their own vampire tales and get them published because I know you know once the market gets oversaturated things take a wild but like I'm ready for vampires to be back so that's it I hope you guys didn't completely hate this I know this is probably the most boring video that's gone up on my channel but I'm really excited that I got to read this it's my most anticipated release of the year I'm glad I got to read it on camera with you guys so um next video coming should be more exciting I think we'll see I love you guys so much and until next time\n"
