**Street Lights Stuck Due to Cyber Attack**

In a bizarre incident, street lights have been stuck on all day due to a cyber attack, leaving residents frustrated and confused. The situation is so unusual that it has become a source of entertainment for some, with one resident joking that the old person who discovered the problem must be the only one aware of it. "That's how they found out," the resident quipped. However, despite the levity, the issue at hand is a serious one, with officials struggling to turn off the lights due to the cyber attack.

The situation has been reported in several areas, and while some residents are amused by the situation, others are frustrated. "It's so weird you know there's some old person who's just furious about this," one resident commented. The old person in question was reportedly called up by officials, who had already informed them of the cyber attack. However, it seems that the resident was unaware of the issue and only found out when they noticed the lights were stuck.

**Morse Code Message**

In another bizarre incident, an elderly individual is believed to have written down Morse code messages in an attempt to communicate with authorities about the stuck street lights. The resident's claims are based on a report by local officials, who stated that the individual had been writing down code letters and symbols in an effort to convey their message. While it is unclear whether this was a genuine attempt at communication or simply a misinterpretation of the situation, it highlights the complexity and frustration caused by the cyber attack.

The resident's actions have raised questions about the potential for individuals to use unconventional methods to communicate in emergency situations. "It would definitely be some homeless person that's like 'oh you're telling me to kill' okay I understand," one observer joked. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of clear communication and effective crisis management.

**AI Predicts Political Orientations**

Recent research has revealed that AI-powered systems can predict an individual's political orientation based on their facial expressions. The study, which was published in a reputable scientific journal, used large language models to analyze images of faces and identify patterns associated with different political affiliations. However, experts have raised concerns about the potential for bias and the implications for individual autonomy.

"It seems like if you're young or not like so this is what they show in terms of uh proof," one expert noted. The study's findings were based on a dataset that included images from Facebook, which researchers claim was able to predict political orientation with some accuracy. However, many experts have questioned the methodology and potential limitations of the research.

The implications of the study are significant, as they raise important questions about the potential for AI-powered systems to influence our choices and decisions. "It's like you know what is the what are the components of Consciousness," one researcher mused. The study highlights the need for further research into the ethics and implications of AI-powered systems.

**Modern AI Research**

The field of modern AI research is rapidly advancing, with significant breakthroughs in areas such as language models and facial recognition. However, these developments also raise important questions about the potential consequences of our creations. "Consciousness is not going to fall out of a large language model," one expert noted, but researchers are still grappling with the fundamental questions about how AI systems develop consciousness.

Researchers have long explored the possibility that infants learn language through statistical models, and recent studies have confirmed this theory. The implications of this research for our understanding of AI-powered language models are significant. "It's like we're rediscovering some old ideas," one researcher mused.

**New Home Security Camera**

A new home security camera has been designed with a unique feature that aims to deter intruders: paintballs. The camera, which uses advanced sensors and algorithms to detect potential threats, will release paintballs at the targeted individual if they fail to comply with instructions. However, critics have warned that this system raises significant concerns about liability and accountability.

The manufacturer has emphasized that the camera is not an automated turret and that users must take responsibility for its use. "You accept all legal responsibility for all paintballs fired," a spokesperson stated. While the system may seem innovative, it highlights the ongoing debate about the limits of technology in our daily lives.

**Fire Suppression System**

A recent incident has raised concerns about the potential risks associated with fire suppression systems that can be triggered remotely. In one case, an individual activated their fire extinguisher system in response to a perceived intruder, resulting in a lack of oxygen in their home. The incident highlights the need for clear communication and caution when using such systems.

The incident has sparked debate about the potential risks and benefits of remote fire suppression systems. While they offer improved safety and convenience, they also raise concerns about accountability and individual responsibility. As one observer noted, "you have to ask yourself is this happening in your country."

**Chinese Keyboard App Security Flaw**

A recent study has revealed that almost every Chinese keyboard app contains a serious security flaw that reveals what users type. The researchers used advanced analysis techniques to identify the vulnerability, which allows hackers to potentially intercept sensitive information.

The discovery highlights the ongoing challenges faced by developers and users in maintaining online security. "It would definitely be some homeless person that's like 'oh you're telling me to kill' okay I understand," one expert joked about the potential implications of this flaw. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and responsible behavior when using technology.

Overall, these incidents highlight the complexities and challenges associated with modern technology and AI research. While innovations such as street lights and security cameras offer improved convenience and efficiency, they also raise important questions about accountability and individual responsibility.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enHello everybody welcome back I forgot the date it's government and security stories though last day of the month April 31st 30th whatever I'm going to double check again just to make sure yes it is both the last day of the month and April 30th leave a comment with your spring planting plans below we're going to leave the April Showers behind yeah let's hope so and the wind storms well no we'll have plenty of those and we will have plenty of warrantless spying oh so exciting controversial us surveillance program fisa lapses amid Congressional dysfunction but don't worry it was renewed at the last second it never actually really did lapse either because lapsing would imply that they would stop doing that they didn't no one stop doing that a couple of ISP said oh yes we're going to stop this at midnight if they let this laps and they did just a little Teensy bit past midnight and uh immediately put it back was there get that back up very quick and that's some bad news maybe this is some good news I don't know we'll probably take some time before we can actually figure this out but it's back the FCC has voted to restore net neutrality rules this is making isps into common carriers so that when you buy a certain amount of data from them they're not allowed to mess with the data if they sell you a certain amount of bandwidth then they can't you can do what you want they can't prioritize your traffic they can't they're not supposed to even really look at your traffic I mean they can do normal network prioritization but they can't say oh you're watching Youtube it'd be a shame if those YouTube packets something bad happened to them it was a partisan vote we all knew it was going to go that way and it did and so here we are in the new realm of net neutrality which could possibly in January switch back as soon as a new president assigns a new FCC chair we can play this whole thing out again what if he put a je pie back in that would be the worst rerun in history what if he got an even bigger reesei like every time we had a picture of him it just got bigger he's just his first like he comes in and gets into a hot a ree's hot tub welcome back you thought you saw the last of me I'm going to rule from this cup and the other big news uh maybe the biggest news it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out now this was prior to the whole thing playing out we're doing one week at a time here but at first there was a little bit of drama house approves the sell or be banned Tik Tok measure attaching it to the foreign aid B Bill weirdly meta is not affected by this it's so strange so yeah the war funding somehow that gets lumped in with Tik Tok because those should be together and it happened and then Bon signs the Tik Tok b band bill into law starting the clock for bite tents to divest it but but then bance said oh we'll just shut it down so they got nine months plus three if at the end of nine months you can show progress so I guess that would be like here we're negotiating or whatever but bance has not signal that they are a willing seller the ruers has the exclusive B Dan prefers Tik Tok shutdown in the US if legal options fail according to the sources this would be a reasonable opening volley in in the negotiations like ah we'll just shut down we'll take our $29 billion and go home which is the figure that they've sort of floated that they've contributed to the economy other tech companies are just like oh we got to get shorts up and running there was a we had a story I thought about a a congress Critter that bought a bunch of shares in meta ahead of this announcement which is just like wait a minute isn't meta doing basically the same thing like why everyone's chasing that Tik Tok the short form video I mean I get what they're trying to do with Tik Tok but I have a little bit of self-reflection like just a tiniest little bit meanwhile Tik tok's legal council have been shopping for Yachts all week because the whole rest of the year is going to be a giant legal battle for them fun time they're loving it and the FDC has done another pretty controversial thing and this is big in the tech world now there is a special dispensation that if you are an executive I think it's just a tech executive maybe not you can stay in your current plan you don't get to be liberated immediately but going forward no longer available us bans non-compete agreements for nearly all jobs so basically if you're a low-level contract worker you know working out of your your tiny office in in uh southern Texas and it's like I've got this horrible non-compete that just seems really Draconian good news it's a weird rule I mean you do agree to it it's a it's a contract not a government rule but they do have uh outsized Power because of the whole corruption cronyism and some corruption and cronyism between Microsoft and the government we all know that that's there because they license the software and it's a sweetheart deal and everything but they didn't do the absolute minimum to maintain that relationship the headline is Microsoft is a national security threat says ex- White House cyber policy director you got to dig into this headline a little bit though what he means is that Microsoft is so lacad isical like so they don't even want to supply logging tools because Microsoft says oh these logging tools you want to log stuff you want to have security logs man that's so much overhead we don't want to have customers have easy access to the security logs gosh so this the Cyber director has a real problem with that approach to security seems reasonable yeah it totally does get it fair and it also seems reasonable that the future all of our futures are going to be looking into the skies in fear because there's going to be autonomous things up there with with weapons and what do you do about that the Army has officially deployed laser weapons overseas to combat enemy drones coolest sounding headline I would I would much rather a bundle of photons than multi-million dollar missiles taking out those uh those inbound things and you can really you can get a lot done with a merer like a lot done is it a bundle or is it a wave it's a packet Through The Ether if you will so they will not say where they used them although the uh Iranian the houthi coast probably a good indicator that it's happening there they won't say how successful it's been but probably pretty successful eventually when the lasers are powerful enough the Air Force is no longer relevant that's when the space force comes in and it's a dark day I mean I understand this on some level because people do abuse this but once again this is you must give up your data so they can lose it in the interest of security the US's quote unquote know your customer proposal will put an end to Anonymous Cloud users this also could be an amazing back door punon intended to some of the legislation around uh making sure that you're an adult looking at certain kinds of websites so all those websites that you host and you don't want people to know who you are forget it cryptocurrency hosting it's out now there is there is a pro like the legit problem here that they're trying to solve is that you have foreign agents that are creating awful but plausible sounding blogs to get you know certain kinds of people whipped up into a froth maybe they're posting about you know really awful things that Apple has done to get me you know whipped up into a frenzy that's you know that their motive is not to shine a light on the injustices and Technology their motive is to just luls which is not not cool well LS is better than destroying the country which I think is the motive of a lot of people in power well I think that their their motive probably is to destroy things but via the Via just for the ls yeah just for the ls yeah well you don't have to be malicious to destroy things if you're in power you can just be dumb you can make a lot of bad decisions about things that you don't really understand and force people to go a certain way when that's not maybe the best way to do it this is exhibit a for exactly what I was talking about because the headline is rooftop solar panels are flooding California's grid that's a problem and that's the kind of headline you write to get engagement from people that would read that and blood would shoot out of their nose because that is so dumb so the problem here is that there's so much solar in California during a nice sunny day in the middle of the day power prices will go negative and you would think that sounds like a Utopia like everybody energy yeah everybody can just have power right no no no no no no that's bad for the power companies that doesn't sound it's very not capitalistic of you now when we talk about sustainable energy and green energy I thought this was the goal yeah yeah is it is California pg& where they're always causing forest fires and like killing babies and stuff yeah it's like I don't care about them and also remember when we talked about how power companies were fighting those high transmission lines cuz with those maybe we could take some of the and I don't know send it to Nevada that seems like a win yeah Nevada being out of water for the giant Dam that wasn't on anybody's bingo card 50 years ago and moving over to the EU it's all about Tik Tok over there as well but not the usual Tik Tok fight Tik Tok has done something absolutely insane they've doubled down on the addiction service why would you do this now EU opens a probe of Tik Tock light citing concerns about addictive design how is it addictive it gives you point points that you can use to spend on things like coupons and uh I think straight up cash in some cases right or something yeah and you can if you invite friends or if you like so many videos like you need to be on there and they give you little tasks day it's kind of like a logging into do your dailies yeah and that probe did not take long to yield some things the EU warned Tik tok's new rewards feature could be addictive now the app has suspended it oh our bad sorry it should we not have done that cuz they had to see that coming one would think and end to end encryption not a big popular topic for the authoritarians of the world and every month or so you get a new police agency that writes a scathing critique of it EUR a Paul now the latest cops to beg big Tech to ditch endtoend encryption why because you need to protect the children like we need to be able to just run a search across all phones that are online looking for certain files that's what they asked for something tells me that if all the children in the world disappear tomorrow they would still not agree to anti- encryption and here's an interesting one that I don't know this might be a little burdensome for some companies it's probably a good thing I think this is another one of those inflammatory headlines yeah eu's new right to repair rules could force companies to repair out of warranty devices they only Force companies to repair out of warranty devices if the companies were very obstinate about providing specifications and a pathway to spare parts that's the only scenario but if you're a small company and it didn't work out yeah are you how do they enforce that maybe there's a carve out for that like if your company's out it doesn't matter anymore like I like it when they do the whole like if you make 100 million in sales per year or whatever like we really are just targeting the monsters and uh we have noticed that Microsoft and Amazon much like bite dance are constantly under the scrutiny for uh Monopoly and yet they keep doing Monopoly like behavior and for some reason they don't see this coming or maybe they do and they don't care Microsoft and Amazon AI Partnerships face scrutiny from British Regulators it's like wait wait a minute aren't you guys mortal enemies and you're working together on something there was a quote in this article that like they genuinely sounded confused they like this is like the most scrutiny we've ever gotten we don't understand and I'm like I don't The Fox and the Hawks can agree that the hen house is the def the best place to look for new ground they also had a quote from Microsoft in here where they were like hey guys I don't think you understand how we set this up right like we we don't own this we're just a piece of it it's like bro we just had the open AI coup people remember that you know like you know how you completely shaped that entire situation and it turned out the way that you wanted that's the same thing you're doing here don't think don't think about that don't look at that and just accept our words at face value well if you are Dutch don't look at meta Dutch privacy Watchdog recommends government organizations stop using Facebook because they're Gathering a lot of information and it's not really super clear what they're doing with that information it's also annoying now cuz Facebook a lot of times if you're not logged in it will have the popup that won't let you see certain things and if you're using it as as a government agency to get news out to people they can't see it same thing as Twitter now or if you run a restaurant oh my God I ha that I cannot look at your stuff I can't look at your menu I just want to look at your hours even and it pops up and up in the Canadian Wasteland they are saying no to the newest technology self-driving cars have been banned banned in British Columbia yep only level three and above and it turns out that they actually do not sell any of those cars in British Columbia it's going to be an easy one to follow unless you're importing a car I suppose so the the rental car in case you guys don't know a tree fell on my car oh you know what we didn't do the update yeah do the update so I went on the Appalachian Trail I was supposed to be out for two weeks I ended up having to cut my trip short because there was a wind storm which was scary to camp in but while I was on the trail a tree fell on my car that was parked elsewhere and I had then had to deal with that so oh total yeah the car was total so I'm driving a rental but the the rental has that lane assist on it and I hate that that is the worst system especially because it's like it has no idea on these curvy roads what's going on can you turn it off probably but I I don't know I'm only I only have the car for another week so the rental car company's like oh they turned off Lane assist that's not good we're going to have to recall this yeah yeah but it's it's like you can feel it like tugging oh I hate that yeah it's terrible terrible technology and that's like like level one or two right so then now the Mercedes did I think it was Mercedes just made a full level three car I think we got a story about it but there's so many caveats yeah like it just only drive it on a grid in a tiny City in this particular area and only if it'sit Sunny well meta is still operational in Russia but I don't think that anybody's actually there you know it's just sort of like it's in the country but they don't have any representation because they're afraid of stuff like this Russ Court sentences meta spokesperson to 6 years in absentia why for saying terroristic things apparently according to Reuters well I think it's just not deleting what we insist not shaping The Narrative the way that we demand not doing for us what you do for the United States government basically I think is the anger here it is sort of a dark cautionary tale when you look at it in that context it's just like I mean I would be fine if the post is marked somehow but it's like let me click a button to see it like what is going on here it's also it shows you the problem of meta is now the decision maker right because meta says that we don't play ball with Russia but we do with China yeah shouldn't people be making that decision for themselves and speaking of China they have an exciting new invention I would not get in one of these unless you had a gun to my head China green lights a mass production of autonomous flying taxis with commercial flights set for 2025 that seems right around the corner how long till we see a a crash video of one of these on the front page of Reddit well depends on how well that firewall works right those blades are dangerously close to my shins well you're in the little bubble I got to get in and out of it hopefully that turn them off nope now the interesting thing about these is that they are probably just barely able to lift two people it's a two-seater and I can't wait for the outrage posts of American tourists oh trying to get in and they're they're too big probably not a lot of American tourism going on in China but maybe things will improve oh there goes wir is so bad with their nonsense now if you are consuming modern animation you might need to start feeling bad about it because those sanctions against certain people turns out that animation is cheaper to do with just basically slave labor but where do you find it North Korea secretly animated Amazon and Ma HBO Max shows researchers say they found an open server with a North Korean IP address and it turns out that they're working on Western media that's so weird the Amazon show it said was like some sort of superhero show and the Mac show was like a children's animated I hadn't heard of them Series yeah I didn't know what they were so yeah somebody in North Korea or at least some server in North Korea had files from those shows so probably dodging some sanctions and moving on to security we have some terrible new security flaws that you must worry about Arcane doors cyers spies hack Cisco firewalls to access government networks this is looking like it might be another solar winds OPM hack type situation but maybe we learned something this time and got it early instead of just it's like oh they're in the network let's see what they do that's that was not a good idea is ironic that the firewall is now the path to get into the network rather than the wall so many wired stories in a row did not mean for this to happen and change healthc care yeah you remember when we made those laws that after you get hacked there's certain things you have to disclose to everybody and you're not allowed to wait a bunch of time apparently change didn't get that memo change Healthcare finally admits that it did actually pay the ransomware hackers and uh they're really really slow walking the details of the patient data leak so they're it's like wait a minute if you paid them that means they probably got a bunch of stuff right the answer was yeah uhhuh and they still released it they definitely fumbled that one I can't believe trusting these people didn't work out and here's something that I'm surprised it took this long for somebody to think of seems obvious in retrospect open AI gp4 can exploit real vulnerabilities by reading security advisers and the cure for this problem is going to be worse than the disease they're going to try to continue to align gp4 so it's like no gp4 we shouldn't help people write security by reading a security advisory that's terrible which means they're going to put another AI in front of it again to try and catch those it's just AI all the way down just don't don't do that it's fine also I'm sure that will be an argument used in the future of like we better not disclose any these cves to the plebs that's bad they don't need to hear about that is also bad another thing that's bad is the constant surveillance state that it's sold to us as safety like the flock cameras or in this case the shot spotter which has been renamed Black Rock style and uh the thing that might tip you off that this is really not for your safety is what happens after a city decides they don't actually want it anymore shot spotter keeps listening for gunfire after contracts expire you think they might be selling the data yeah they might be you think maybe the business model is not actually for the city to pay them we would like for you to tell us where you hear these n don't worry about it but we are going to put it in our giant database they use it for property values now they do still communicate to the cops as well apparently so they're not getting paid but they're still willing to operate the network and they're still willing to have everything be the same so that's weird why would they want that guess it cost more money to remove it but also now they're free to monetize it however they want but it doesn't cost anything to turn it off I think there might be some uh alternate funding coming in there that is a bit suspect isn't it a lot suspect and here's a terrible terrible thing that can happen to you and there's nothing you can do about it you have to fear this if you're at home cut off from the world light pole instulation in Missouri hits a fiber line knocks out 911 Serv in several States including Kentucky that's just absurd just saw through it boys we got this work order we got to get it done it's also amazing that we've made the these inter Network Comm uh connections so fragile that they do this the the original internet was designed to survive nuclear Holocaust at major cities and major exchanges have you seen the way that the AT&T building is built in New York City it's Madness with no windows also those street lights probably don't need to be plugged into any kind of network you know like a 10cent photo resistor could trigger them on and off with the ambient light but no that's not what we've done we've created internet of things street lights of course it's obvious what happened next ler street lights have been stuck on all day due to a Cyber attack we can't turn them off it's so weird you know there's some old person who's just furious about this like that's how they found out yeah they have no no other things going on in their life and they're just mad cuz the lights are on some old dude called him up and they already knew though they were like yeah we got a cyber attacked we can't really control anything at this point it's being used to denial of service children's a children's hospital in Serbia is that what was that your joke something I can't remember from years ago imagine if you made him blink all the time what does it mean the old person's like writing down Morse code they think it's telling them something it's communicating there would definitely be some homeless person that's like oh you're telling me to kill okay I understand and this one I don't know how to where how much factuality we have here this seems really insane but if it's a thing it's terrifying the probably not real headline of the week is AI can predict political orientations from blank faces and researchers fear serious privacy challenges is this just like if you're young or not like so this is what they show in terms of uh proof it really doesn't show anything but apparently they ran some numbers and on ran it on Facebook and where people were obviously giving their uh political affiliation and they say that it was able to guess something I don't know that seems unlikely unless it just looked at every face and remembers you would have to if that's true then doesn't that raise incredible questions about our own autonomy of choice and predestin nation and all that like you might get the same sort of questioning reality just looking at modern AI research and it's like you know what is the what are the components of Consciousness and it's like a large language models Consciousness is not going to fall out of a large language model but then you you use it and it's like I also wonder though like is it looking at was it looking at just like straight on photos straight on photos no it's got to be like a resting no expression face no no details in the background with cloes or hats or I don't think so seems unlikely yeah but you know it's interesting uh there were in the 80s and 90s um linguists that theor theorized that infants learned language through a statistical model which would seem consistent with what we discovering rediscovering about large language models that's before the Consciousness AI needs to be turned on yeah to save Cycles if you get OIC faed you think it changes your political views and uh here's an idea that is going to get you sued Pro tip it's going to get you sued here ENT at your own risk new home security camera aims paintballs at Intruders that's uh not okay now I think this one does thread the loophole of it doesn't do it it's not an automated turret it's got a camera and it'll ping you and if you pull up the phone app you can trigger the the shots just have like a you accept all legal responsibility for all paintballs fired like cuz that's the rule right yeah you can't have an automated trap but if it's a remote trap and you trigger it in the right conditions it might be okay again you're going to get sued what if you put a fire suppression system in your house that uses like uh one of those gases and it's like oh no there's an intruder I mean fire at my house click oh there's no Oxygen at my house now you might have some questions to answer and finally over in China here's one that will shock no one but you have to ask yourself is this happening in your country I think the answer is probably yes almost every Chinese keyboard app has a serious security flaw that reveals what users type it's so weird because this showed up in the Samsung phone and or the Samsung keyboard and swipe andent yeah a lot of things so when it is doing the auto corrections and spellchecking and all that suggestions and stuff like that it's being sent plain text back to that server anybody could just look at that and they don't have to have access to that server like you could just be any man what if you had an internet tap at like the major choke points of the internet and you just siphoned up all the traffic like literally all the oh wait a minute we've seen requisitions for exactly that from multiple World governments this person writes duck a lot also for me my auto correct on my phone anytime I try to type a lot or just lot it corrects to lotr which says something probably not great about me fabulous anyway that's it for people have been this day outraged kristofh for two weeks they didn't get it oh yeah bye\n"
