MSI Interview at Computex 2013

MSI's Global Market Strategy: A Shift to New Regions

Traditionally, MSI has been very strong in Europe, where it maintains a significant revenue share of around 40%. However, with the global economy experiencing a slowdown, MSI is shifting its focus towards new regions. In terms of volume, China now accounts for approximately 35% of MSI's sales, while Europe and North America combined share around 30-25%, respectively. South Asia and other Asian-Pacific regions also contribute to MSI's overall revenue.

China: A Growing Market

MSI has been working on expanding its presence in the Chinese market, which was initially perceived as a challenging region due to the dominance of local brands like BOE and GIGABYTE. However, after several years of investment and marketing efforts, MSI is now seeing significant growth in China. The country's gaming industry is particularly thriving, with over 120 million gamers, making it a lucrative market for MSI. The company has launched new gaming products, such as the "M-Board" series, which have been well-received by customers.

Europe: Recovery and Competition

In Europe, MSI hopes to continue its momentum in the North American and middle-South America regions. However, with the European economy still recovering from the pandemic, MSI is taking a cautious approach. The company is focusing on maintaining its market share while investing in new products and technologies. Intel's latest Haswell platform launch has generated significant excitement among gamers and enthusiasts, but MSI remains confident in its ability to adapt and thrive in this competitive market.

Intel's Haswell Platform: A Key Player

The launch of Intel's Haswell platform marks an important milestone for the company, as it transitions away from the aging Ivy Bridge architecture. With the introduction of this new platform, MSI is poised to capitalize on the growing demand for high-performance CPUs. The company has already seen positive feedback from customers in Japan, where the platform was launched with significant success. While Intel still faces competition from AMD and other brands, MSI is confident that its product offerings will maintain its market share.

New Products and Technologies

MSI is also excited to showcase its new products and technologies at upcoming trade shows. The company's "G-Dragon" series of motherboards, including the G87 GD65, has been well-received by customers and critics alike. With its modular design and innovative features, this product is set to become a flagship model for MSI. Additionally, the company will be launching new products with integrated NVIDIA graphics, leveraging the latest GT700 series technology from Nvidia.

The Importance of Brand Recognition

MSI's efforts to establish itself as a major player in the global PC market are paying off, with several awards and accolades already accumulated by the company. The "Best Brand" award at Computex 2022 is a testament to MSI's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. As the company continues to expand its product offerings and market reach, it remains focused on providing the best possible experience for its customers.

In conclusion, MSI's strategy to shift its focus towards new regions has yielded promising results, particularly in China. The company's efforts to invest in new products, technologies, and marketing initiatives are paying off, with a growing customer base and increasing revenue share in key markets. With Intel's Haswell platform and other innovative products on the horizon, MSI is well-positioned to maintain its position as a leading PC manufacturer globally.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi everyone I'm Patrick with Tom salware and we're here at computex 2013 at the MSI booth and I'm sitting here with Charles Chang who is the executive vice president and general manager of the desktop platform Solutions business unit is that right okay and I would like to ask a few questions for our readers um first of all can you say a few words about MSI right now in general and how do you compare to other motherboard vendors such as Aus or gigabyte what's your speciality how do you differentiate okay so uh P thank you for coming and uh a lot of people ask me this question and I think the uh MSI we already in the market for many many years and you can see this time we have a main theme is called New MSI and uh we have overall product Synergy as you can see we have a all C serious we have a game gaming we have uh uh the classic and close the platform so we have the mall gaming we have the uh graphic card gaming we have the notebook gaming we have all in one gaming okay so to compete uh with our competitors I in Asus is too big okay and uh Asus also inol uh too many products and uh I don't think they can focusing on only one area and uh they also spend a lot of effort on the T on the uh uh smartphone and uh I think that uh uh uh that's it the strategy but to compete with gigaby I think the uh we need to really come out a good Synergy okay so as you can see uh gigabyte not strong in the not area and a rock just only the mar okay so how we can have the uh product Synergy close the platform and then take this Synergy to compete with gigabyte compete to uh asak and uh if we focus in on the Taki audience accurately I think we also can close the gate with Asus te okay so synergies seem to be the most important factor for MSI to catch up with the others um if we look at different markets for example many of our readers don't realize that nowadays for example China has become the most important market in terms of quantities which are the most important markets for MSI in terms of quantities and what type of products do you sell to China versus North America versus Europe for example okay so traditionally MSI is very strong in Europe and Europe uh I think uh in terms of the uh Revenue share is about 40% but since uh uh the uh economy uh I would have to say it's uh slow down everything but anyway that's uh really move uh to some region right now so in terms of the volum I think China now shares a about 35% and uh uh in Europe now maybe share only as 25 30% and North America plus middle South America share another 30% so it's uh and then it's uh e South Asia and the other Asia Pacific area pretty much is another percentage so you can see that China is a very interesting a market originally people think that a Bodum no problem SP is problem but we are seeing uh after uh years we working on those uh uh market and we are seeing that GDP is growing and we are seeing more and more mainstream and highend user so you're talking about the gamer there's a 200 million gamer worldwide and just China alone is 120 million okay so we are we launched the gaming uh M ball and the graphic carard uh since last year it's setting very very well so uh the product like that we're increasing our SP and uh I think that is the right way to do and uh uh China also for our ging loo is also very important uh market and then I think e Europe I I hope the uh economy can recovery soon and but uh we are uh hope we are doing quite okay in Europe and uh hopefully we can keep continue to G the momentum in the North America and the middle South America okay so one important aspect for this year is obviously Intel's Haswell platform that launched today how do you compare Haswell to Prior or to former Intel platforms do you think it's more important what impact does it have on your business okay I think the uh India launch platform once a year and uh I would not see that a big difference this year and uh India also put a lot of effort to uh promote their new platform but I'm seeing a a quite interesting and good feedback now is although they told us that the has World transition will be slowly but it seems like uh they uh start to Shi some highend i7 i5 and they are saying very very well the I met with Steven is a int corporate sales uh Marketing Group VP and he was in Japan and he told me people line up in the midnight to buy their CPU and they sell more than 1,000 uh bucks right away so I think that's uh Cas is a great product and uh I think uh Intel still working very hard to move more and more volume to the market to the channel but I think we are ready and uh once they uh can provide the CPU and I think the uh momentum uh will given higher and but but the key is this year still have a lot of Ivy Bridge platform and we hope hope that IB Bridge breakform we can also maintain our share well and we still we will still move IB Bridge product in the market as well so uh is there any other platform or technology that you consider very important for this year something from AMD maybe oh definitely I think AMD will also do some transition and they will also launch a new uh product in the CPU they call the Apu side and uh Richland right and also uh the graphic okay I think they will launch and then Intel uh no Nvidia launched the gt700 series uh now and more and more com in and I think this all great product I think will Al will stimulate the demand in the market so we feel very uh uh excit exciting about this uh uh new techn coming but I think in MSI uh we also put a lot of a on the new MSI new new products new uh product positioning New Image and uh I hope that that will make the our uh tet audience feel like MSI can really provide the best product for the newcoming uh CPU no matter CPU Apu or the GPU okay so there's a variety of new products coming can you pick one product specifically that you like the most okay P actually my great product so many but if you ask me to pick up one I think I will pick up all gd65 uh g87 gd65 gaming I think our uh Andrew our G uh our g77 gd65 also got the th how guy uh probably last year right yes yeah so the new uh following g87 gd65 G me modable we just won the uh number one and the only uh a best awarded uh Mall in comput TX okay so I just received uh uh trophy from our president m Joe this morning okay so that's a product you cannot miss it okay so congratulations for that thank you very much Charles for the interview and be ready to read the review on this and another motherboards motherboards on THS hardware.com pretty soon thank you
