Xiaomi Mi 5C Gaming Performance Review (Surge S1 SoC)

The mi5c: A Mobile Gaming Powerhouse with the Serge S1 Chipset

Hey guys, Chris here with the mi5c and it's equipped with its custom chipset, the Serge S1. This is Shia's own in-house chipset that features a Mali T860 GPU, which is not commonly seen on other mobile devices due to its four-core configuration. In contrast, most other mobiles only have two cores when utilizing this same GPU.

The Serge S1 also boasts eight Cortex A53 cores within it, with a maximum turbo of 2.2 GHz. Now that we've taken a look at the specs, let's dive into some gaming performance on this particular device, specifically using a Bluetooth controller for games that support it. First up is Mortal Kombat X, which runs smoothly over 30 frames per second, displaying excellent visuals and no problems for the Mali T860 GPU with four cores.

Next, we take a look at Grand Theft Auto Vice City, an older title that still manages to run 100% scaling maximum visual settings and remains perfectly playable. However, there is a noticeable slight slow down in this game compared to others tested. Despite this minor adjustment, it's still more than capable of handling demanding games.

We also test out Rogue Assault, which appears to be performing well with no significant issues. Another familiar title, Modern Combat 5, seems to be running smoothly as well, although there is a slight slow down in certain areas. Moving on to Ashfeld Extreme and Marvel Future Fight, we notice some definite lag on the latter of these two games.

Despite experiencing some lag, it's essential to remember that this behavior can occur on various devices under similar circumstances. The mi5c handles gaming with ease without any major issues, thanks to its powerful Serge S1 chipset.

Now that we've concluded our gaming review, let's take a moment to discuss the thermal performance of this device. We insert the Theral probe to gauge the temperature and find that the front is around 32 degrees Celsius, which isn't too bad. Nevertheless, the back feels warmer at 28 degrees Celsius. However, it should be noted that temperatures increase slightly as we continue gaming for an extended period.

After approximately half an hour of gaming, we can see the device warming up, but the heat doesn't seem excessive. We've been running a game in the background throughout our test, which might contribute to this slight increase in temperature. The maximum temperature reaches 31-32 degrees Celsius, making it just warm enough for comfort.

In conclusion, the mi5c handles gaming with ease, thanks to its powerful Serge S1 chipset with the Mali T860 GPU and four cores. Although some dips and slow down are noticed during gameplay, these are minor issues that can be expected on any device at certain temperatures. However, battery life is a concern as it burns through power quickly.

Gaming performance on this device typically lasts around 2 and 1/2 hours before needing to recharge, depending on the screen brightness used. Overall, the mi5c is an excellent mobile gaming device for those looking for a powerful experience without excessive heat or long battery life concerns.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys Chris here with the mi5c with its custom chipset in there the Serge S1 so that's Shia's own in-house chipset that has a Mali t860 GPU in there with four cores normally we only see two in most other mobiles that use this GPU it has eight cortex a53 cores in there with a maximum turbo of 2.2 GHz so let's have a look at gaming performance now for this particular gaming review here I'm going to be using a Bluetooth controller when the game support it this one right here which is a game sir G4 if not then I'll have to use Touch of course so the first time I'm checking out is Mortal Kombat X it's running well over 30 frames per second it's very smooth it's very fluid and 100% playable no problems for the Mali t860 GPU with four cores and this Title Here is Grand Theft Auto Vice City it's an old one but it's running 100% scaling maximum visual settings and it's perfectly playable here real racing three little bit of slow down there a little choppy this one isn't running as smooth as some other mobiles I've seen but not too bad oh it's a little slow through there isn't it so this one has a little bit of stut off this game here is Rogue assault seems to be handling this game just fine okay and a very familiar Title Here of course is Modern Combat 5 so far seems to be performing perfectly fine little bit of slow down there over and this next title is ashfeld Extreme and the last game I'm going to test out is Marvel future fight you can see there's some definite lag there but that happens on actually all devices it seems to be the this game I've even seen this do that on Snap Dragon 821 so after all that gaming how does it feel well it is definitely heating up it's quite warm but it doesn't seem too bad to me I've been gaming on an in total probably over half an hour 40 minutes actually of course the video is not that long got the theral probe here and we'll check and see just how hot it's getting so the front is around 32° that's not bad I still have a game running there in the background too and the back where it feels the warmest is actually less around 28° so thermals there don't seem too bad at all okay 31 32 is the maximum there so it's getting just warm to the touch so to conclude there you can see that it can handle gaming just finding the Serge S1 with the Mali t860 GPU with four cores no problems all those games there were perfectly playable yes there was some dips and slow down at some points which I come to expect because you literally see that on every single device at certain degrees of course so it can handle everything fine no problems there battery life it does burn through the battery quite quick so gaming maximum time I would say you probably look at around 2 and 1 half hours tops there gaming of course that's going to be dependent on the screen brightness you use thanks a lot for watching this gaming review and hopefully I'll catch you back in the Channel with
