model that I'm using is the ds412 plus but it'll work with any Synology model the only limitation is that the number of cameras that can be supported by your syy Nas you have to just check up your webs uh the syy website because some models support four IP cam some support 6 8 Etc and for this test I'm going to use this access IP camera had done the unboxing of this a couple of months ago so you can check out that for more info now we just log to our dis station manager and I'm also going to show you the mobile application using which also you can do the surveillance the first thing we do is uh install the surveillance station I have already done the same if it's you haven't done the same just go to the package Center and from the available tabs you'll find it over here uh hit install and it should install and it should come here and just make sure that you're running the the latest version at the time of recording that's December 2012 the latest version of surveillance station is version 6 and I'm just going to invoke it now and as you can see we do not have any IP camera configured yet if you haven't installed your IP camera uh yet I suggest that you install the same and after installing it you can add it to the Synology uh Nas Just click here and use this add camera option and you get this wizard hit the next option and we're going to use the complete setup and we can name the camera as I have just one camera I'm going to name it as axis one and if you know the IP address you can just type in or just hit this button and this utility should find all the IP cameras uh in your network so I'm going to select the one and now give the password for for your IP camera and hit this test connection and it has found our camera hit the next and from here you can adjust the recording settings uh if you don't have a very powerful Nas I would suggest that to leave it at default uh because uh this camera does support 720P HD and I'm going to invoke the same but again do note that if you're going to use this HD recording they do take up a lot of space and you require a fairly powerful Nest model from Synology to do that so just play around with the same hit next and I'm just going to tweak these settings and we can configure the uh trigger event recording settings here I have set it to record 5 Seconds prior to the event and 5 seconds after the event is completed you can configure the same and I'm going to limit the archive to about 30 GB hit next and I want to do the recording only when there is motion detection so I just uh check mark the same hit next and I'm going to use the motion detection by the surveillance station so I use this option and we just hit finish now we have set up the camera but we haven't set up what do you say the triggering events to do the same we go to this Advance option and hit this motion detection and from here we can set up the detection area for example for me uh let's say this is where my hand is waving I wanted to start recording when something happens in that area so I'm going to add the same so I'm going to hit this detection area option and add click the add button and uh I'm going to uh name it as let's name it as hand hand one I'm going to cck okay and you can add multiple areas if you would like I'm just going to hit save now now and uh hit the close and now we have actually configured our uh what do you say the IP camera if you have multiple IP cameras do the same now and if you hit this live view event you should be able to see the feed live feed in a few moments and as you can see we are able to see the live feed the camera I'm using does not have the PTZ function if we had that we could pan zoom and tilt with the same we can also Zoom around with this camera like this and uh we can also go to the timeline if and any events are there that's triggered it should be shown over here and as you can see here we have this event over here and I'll show you an easy way to access the same if I go just go to the event list as you can see it has uh recorded and if you just double click on the same it should play it back and it recorded because uh the event was triggered I'm also just going to walk away from my office and enter my office and sit on this chair and that should also trigger the camera because there was a movement in the hot area that we have assigned so let's check if it works I had just walked into my office and as you can see we have a new event over here and let's play it back as you can see it started recording so this way you can configure this uh IP camera and assign the hot zones another thing that we can do with this Synology surveillance station is set up notifications whenever event is detected for example let's say the camera camera loses network connection or a motion is detected around set so as you can see and we can also set it up to send SMS Etc and from here the settings we can set up our mail server so that whenever an event occurs it notifies us now I'm going to show you this uh servance station using a mobile app it works both on the IOS and Android for this example I'm going to use an Android tablet so let me show you the same now so this is the mobile app and it's known as DS scam and I'm using an Android tablet you can also use an Android phone uh you can download this app for free from the Google Play Market and I'm just going to fire it up and you also get compatible apps for iOS so you can use it on iPad and iPhones and as you can see it automatically detected our camera it list all the cameras as we have just one camera it's showing that and if we hit on the same we get a live view and if I wave my hand you should be able to see that as you can see and we can also watch all the uh what do you say uh events and the triggers they'll be here and if we click on the same here are all the triggered events and we just uh click on any one of the same to view word so as you can see it plays it back flawlessly here I was setting up my tripod to record the same and I was in the what do you say uh triggered uh even so it started recording so as you can see it works fine and you can
