Rust Hunting on our AWD Turbo Honda Shuttle Build!

Cars in One Piece: A Journey to Restoration

I've got no idea if it'll break or not but yeah kind of bogged, I figured it would but no wheel spin either so it's definitely working. I figured it would be cool to uh compare clutch isn't that happy I tried to uh ride it just a little bit uh just to absorb some stress in the driveline it's not happy about that but it still works so we're all good, I think this thing's gonna be a lot of fun. I've never owned an all-wheel drive car before or driven one or certainly raced one, so gonna be a lot of firsts for this thing looking forward to it.

We're here at Chopper's Auto Body Shop, and the man himself, Chopper, is here to talk us through what's going on. Do you just want to talk us through uh what you're going to do? I don't know anything about panel work and paint so you can tell us what the map um pretty much. You see here there's a bit of a bit of old repair but a rock gone on, uh someone's been there with a little bit of bog so we're basically going to just strip off the parts off the tail light trims, dig that back. See what is actually underneath that frame, most likely if you keep going we should be able to get it back looking pretty good again.

And you reckon the rest of the paint on the car is actually not too bad? Maybe just the roof, not too bad, stone chips and stuff like that but um the roof obviously the clear coat's gone so that would definitely need a bit of a strip back and yeah another coat of paint to sort it out. Well, it's a goodie, I'm just waiting for it to go straight through the middle, but in all honesty, i wonder if it goes all the way to you know oh have fun.

I will thanks for that, it's not like fully rotten me at least or something something like that. I'll pull it out, repair it sand it up the steel yeah but they won't actually put a copper climber on the middle before oh okay then basically while they're tearing up using their hands oh we might ever wander on around and see what else they've got cooking here.

There's a couple of cars that are not on our wheelhouse that we're not familiar with, chocolate to tell us what uh what they've got going down. Bit of a Mazda over here, RX2 it's got a just a 12a peripheral port the um custom quad intake setup going on. Just come in for a few repairs just for the reunion oh okay yeah yeah so we get we have quite a few of these um coming around summertime because everyone wants to obviously go and use them and have fun.

So yeah, we've we've sort of been well known to no Mazdas inside and out so yeah we do get a lot of them. Chopper is a bit of a rotary fan when is our reunion? There's a big rotary or Mazda slash rotary um festival every year, so a lot of the guys kind of made rush to get their cars ready for that that's coming up.

Yeah it's coming up real soon man yeah so um yeah another two or three weeks i think oh it's okay okay yeah so that'll be it. That'll be it'll be a fun event always is so basically this is a 66 Pontiac, we've started with doing a full gear red fan chassis the rear quarters on this were no good so we've actually purchased some aftermarket panels which are slightly different on this model oh yeah.

So do have to modify the ends of the car and remake them actually yeah supercar yeah as you can see just going to be choosing these old things okay yeah but it was American type okay which is not helping against Americans but obviously someone's done a really bad job to our standards in New Zealand for certification we've got tough rules here guys you've got to have everything 100 perfect although yeah i'll fail you basically.

This here is what we get a lot of, someone's had a really good go at repairing some rust there before which to us disgusting look at all that yeah it is gonna pretty much start from the scratch with them yeah yeah so basically um jade here one of our fabricators has basically completely made a whole new chassis wow something you can't buy so we make it here yeah but yeah he's basically getting it all jacked up and we've got to find a final measure up, make sure everything's as it should be and well yeah yeah.

But we've got a mezza RX5 hiding under there is unfortunately RX3 sedan there Malcolm awesome well we'll call it a wrap.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: ensup everyone monday morning but jaded after a long weekend at the track but it was great to be there in super cool action inside the shuttle we're gonna take a cruise about 10 minutes down the road to chopper's auto body shop local paint and panel guru does some pretty cool cars and he's going to fix that weird little nasty bit on the rear corner and maybe anything else that he can find sorry just turn the key on uh yeah first drive on this thing i moved in the car park just to my location here but it's the first time i've driven it so we'll uh give it a whirl i drive an auto for a daily and have done for the last about 10 years so this might be a little uh this might be a little rough but we'll see how it goes feels alright cable clutches always feel a little bit um odd when you are used to a hydraulic clutch i used to daily in ef a long long long time ago but that's the only car with the cable clutch i've ever driven regularly so the pedal always kind of feels a little bit weird it doesn't give you kind of any feedback a few little rattles but it goes all right it's got some lowering springs in it i forgot to mention in our previous video so ride's a little bit firmer and otherwise what it feels like there's some decent ones i don't know what they are it doesn't really stop so great so i think it's i think this has got drums on the back so we'll have to do something about that at some point but anyway we're off it doesn't really have any picture on it either uh so we'll have to stop for some picture we might not make it but you can't see any petrol uh warning light just thought it would be uh remiss of me not to try a oil drive launch in completely stock form i've got no idea if it'll break or not but yeah kind of bogged i figured it would but no wheel spin either so it's definitely working i figured it would be cool to uh compare clutch isn't that happy i tried to uh ride it just a little bit uh just to absorb some stress in
