Preparing for the CrossFit Open _ Sarah Grace Fitness

The Mindset and Strategy for the Open Workout Announcement

As a competitive athlete, I am excited to share my thoughts on the upcoming open workout announcement. This year, I am coming to terms with the reality that I won't be qualifying for Regionals, which has been a long-standing goal of mine. It's disheartening to see how quickly other athletes are growing and improving each year, making it challenging to remain competitive. However, I've come to realize that being realistic about my abilities is crucial. The open workout is not just about personal growth and improvement; it's also about having fun and connecting with others who share similar passions.

To approach the open workout with a clear mindset, I encourage everyone to reflect on their past performances and compare them to their current progress. This will help you identify areas for improvement and set realistic goals for yourself. For me, this year's open workout is a chance to build confidence and showcase my hard work in training. Last year, I had just welcomed my newborn daughter, which added a new layer of excitement and challenge to my workouts. While it was exhilarating to be back in the gym after pregnancy, I also learned the importance of staying present and focused on the task at hand.

One key takeaway from last year's experience is the value of approaching each workout with a relaxed attitude. Don't get caught up in trying to "beat" someone or achieve a specific score. Instead, focus on enjoying the process, learning from your mistakes, and pushing yourself within a comfortable range. This mindset shift will help you stay present and avoid burnout.

As we approach the open workout announcement, I recommend taking it easy for a few days before the big day to allow your body to rest and recover. Don't overtrain or try to rush through your workouts in an attempt to get ready too quickly. Shaving your hands is essential, as thick calluses can be detrimental to your performance during the workout.

Another crucial aspect of preparing for the open workout is building confidence in specific skills like double unders and muscle ups. Avoid trying to force these skills onto yourself by practicing them excessively before the workout. Instead, focus on mastering them within the context of the actual exercise. If you're struggling with a particular skill, wait until the workout announcement when it's prescribed to tackle it.

Finally, make sure to wear your trusty gear, including shoes and clothes that you know and love. Having a familiar setup can help you stay focused and composed under pressure. I always remind myself to secure my hair into a tight ponytail before starting a particularly demanding exercise like double unders – a small detail that has saved me from frustration in the past.

As I head out to get my workout done, I'll be sharing it with all of you on my channel. Be sure to subscribe and tune in for a behind-the-scenes look at how I approach the open workout announcement. With a clear mindset, strategy, and dedication, everyone can enjoy this experience and make the most of their time in the gym.

and we are all sitting with anticipation wondering what that workout is gonna be I want to talk to you guys a little bit about kind of mindset and maybe some tips and sort of strategy going into the open I'm coming to you as somebody who is competitive and I really want to do well in the open but realistically I know I'm not going to qualify for regionals this year that is been a goal of mine and something that I really would love to be able to do but I also have to be realistic about it and like come on I mean have you seen these girls that are qualifying for regionals it's like every year they get younger and stronger and faster and better and I'm like every year I'm getting older it's like we have to be real about it at the same time we can't get so caught up in being competitive that you forget about the fun and about what it's really there for to bring people together and to challenge them and so it's important when you're going into this open to think about what how did I do last year and how I'm doing this year and kind of compare and have something to go by and see what have you done in your own personal progress and don't get caught up so much and what everybody else is doing for me last year I had just had my daughter she was about five months old I was so pumped just to be able to be in the gym and do the actual movements I do get caught up in like okay what was or you know should i redo it I need to beat so-and-so and to be honest I had probably the most fun I'd had in any open because of that I went in with a more laid-back approach more appreciative my ability just to be able to work out and to move and to do the movements my daughter is a year and a half old so I've had some solid time to Train some things I'm better than I was before pregnancy some things I'm almost back to where I was so my mindset is gonna be yes I want to put up a good score but I am going to focus on having fun and not stressing and kind of competing more with myself and trying to improve on my own performance so some tips that you guys you know things to be thinking about this week obviously you don't want to be overtraining going into this week before the announcement you don't want to be risking ripping your hands being super sore so don't be trying to like rush and be like oh my god I got a train really hard because the open workouts are coming and I don't want to be in shock at this point it's a little bit too late for that so you want to be kind of taking it a little bit easier still pushing that aerobic threshold this week but not just killing it every time you're in the gym you know shave your hands you don't want to have the thick calluses I actually shaved mine last night you don't want to have those thick calluses that might rip you know if you're struggling with Dubbs that's something you can work on every day to try to build that confidence for the open because we know there's gonna be double unders there is every year if you're struggling with muscle ups I don't suggest you start trying to do muscle ups every day in hopes that you're gonna get a muscle up wait until the actual workout where it's prescribed and I'm telling you if you are close you will probably get one in the open because that adrenaline Dixon that environment gets you and a lot of times you're able to do things that you can't on a regular day in the gym and lastly if you have a pair of shoes that you like training in make sure you wear those don't be wearing the brand new shoes that just came in the mail we're the ones that you're comfortable with if you're doing double unders oh my god this is something that I always have to remind myself make sure your hair is in a tight ponytail and out of the way because that has happened to me before or I'm in the middle of the workout doing dubs my hair ponytail comes out all in my face hitting the rope and it's a nightmare good shoes hair is fastened up and out of the way and if you have like you know whatever it is your good luck shorts your good luck underwear your good luck t-shirts socks whatever it might be wear those with you on that day whatever it is that works for you don't switch it up right before they open so I know everyone's gonna do great all right so that covers it I'm actually gonna go get my workout done right now and if you want to see what I'm doing in the gym go and subscribe to my channel because I will be posting a video of my workout see you all soonwhat's up everyone Sarah grace here and I'm coming to you from my home gym to talk to you guys a
