The Beauty of Rallying: A Selection of the Best Onboard Footage

As a long-time fan of rallying, I'm excited to share with you a selection of the best onboard rally footage that I've come across on YouTube. These clips showcase the thrill and excitement of competitive rallying, and I think they're truly breathtaking.

We start off with a stunning video of Yari Matty Ler in an old Mark 2 Escort, competing in the Larti Rally in Finland. This is one of the most impressive bits of driving you'll ever see, and it's definitely worth checking out around three and a half minutes into the clip. There's a huge moment that happens at this point which I won't give away just yet – trust me when I say that you'll want to watch until the end.

Next up is Colin McCrae, competing in the 2001 Rally GB. This stage is particularly memorable, as it was said that Nicky Grist had never seen him driving so on the limit. It's absolutely breathtaking stuff, and a great example of what makes rallying so thrilling.

Another highlight from Finland comes courtesy of Colin McCrae again – this time in a Peugeot 206 WRC. He's up against one of his biggest rivals, Richard Burns, who is completely different to him. What you'll notice about this clip is how smooth and composed Colin drives, even at the highest speeds.

We also feature Robert Cubitt, who may have started out as an F1 driver but has now made a successful transition to rallying. This video shows his first run-out in a Ford, which was the 2014 Jana Rally. The stage is set on a snowy night, and what follows is some truly breathtaking driving. Be sure to watch the first five minutes of this clip – it's absolutely stunning.

Last but not least, we have Ari Vatanen competing in an Opel Manta 400. This classic clip has been around for ages, but there's one scene that you'll be watching again and again – trust me when I say that it's a real showstopper. There are also two other drivers featured in this article who might not be well-known to Irish fans: Neil Hickey and Ender Kennedy. They're competing in an old Subaru Impreza, and what they do is truly fun and entertaining.

Before we go any further, I should mention that there's a bit of bad language used in one of these clips – don't watch it if you're easily offended! But rest assured that it's all good-natured banter.
