The 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance: A Powerhouse of Speed and Style
About two months ago, we discussed which 2024 model 3 you should buy, but unfortunately, we couldn't get any information on the performance version. However, we all knew it was coming, and now that it's here, it certainly lives up to its name. The 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance is a powerhouse of speed, style, and upgraded parts and drive modes.
The 2024 model 3 Performance uses the Performance 4du, which is Tesla's name for its powerful Drive Unit. This latest iteration dishes out 510 horsepower and 547 lb feet of torque per Tesla, a significant increase from the older version that made 450 horsepower. The 4du delivers a 22% increase in continuous power, 32% increase in Peak power, and 16% Improvement in Peak torque delivery, while also showing a 2% reduction in energy consumption.
This impressive performance is enough to propel the car to a sub-3 second 0 to 60 dash and a top speed of 63 mph. However, Tesla has not only focused on raw power but also on handling and ride quality. The car's Adaptive damping setup adjusts the ride and handling to road conditions and can also be tailored via the different Drive modes of Standard Sport or Track. Speaking of Track mode, this is the third version of the setting, which adjusts motor controls, suspension, powertrain cooling, and traction control to provide a more consistent and predictable experience for when you're out on the track.
For those who are tracking their Model 3s, Tesla has taken care of them with what they call "track-ready" brake pads as standard. Additionally, the car gets a set of Plii P04 tires over 20-inch wheels that have been tuned specifically for the Model 3. While I'm not a massive fan of Plii tires for track work, it's a good sign considering you're tracking a car weighing just over 4,000 lb.
As for styling changes, the Model 3 Performance gets reworked front and rear fenders, a rear diffuser, a front splitter, and a rear spoiler. The result is a slight reduction in drag, which is surprising but also a good reduction in lift and an improvement in overall balance on the inside. Tesla has popped in its sport seats with added bolstering yet still included Heating and Cooling.
In terms of pricing, the 2024 model 3 Performance starts at $5,050, plus destination and a $250 order fee if you want any color besides black. However, if you ordered one today, Tesla says you could have it in your driveway by June just in time to potentially battle Hyundai Ionic 5N owners at your local track day.
