A Curious Issue with the Fourth Generation iPod Touch: Sensitivity to Firm Pressure on the LCD Screen
Hello YouTube, it's Detroit Borg here, and I've recently discovered something interesting about the fourth generation iPod touch that I'd like to share with you guys. I wanted to put this out there just to see if somebody else is also having this problem. It's not a huge issue, but I thought it was worth mentioning, as it's somewhat concerning.
I noticed this while cleaning my iPod touch, and I decided to investigate further. The LCD screen itself seems to be kind of sensitive to firm pressure. To illustrate this point, let me try and press my finger here on the screen, and you can see that the screen sort of wiggles. Let's go back to the top, so if I press on the top, you'll see it distort, and at the top, it will flash like that.
I have to admit, I'm not used to seeing this on any other device, including my iPods, iPhones, or iPads. So, when I discovered this issue, I was a bit surprised. My initial assumption is that this has something to do with the way the screen is laminated to the glass. Since it's now closer to the glass, it may be more susceptible to pressure or distortion of the glass itself.
To further investigate, let me zoom in on the screen and press my finger again on the top. You can see that a rainbow pattern appears when I do this. It seems less likely to occur at the bottom but is more noticeable at the top. Again, I'm applying a fair amount of pressure here, but even with an iPhone 4, which has a much stronger glass, I couldn't replicate this issue.
However, let's bring out an iPhone 4 and see how it performs. (Note: It seems there was a mistake in the transcription. The part about bringing out an iPhone 4 again is unnecessary, as the comparison to an iPhone 4 has already been made earlier.) So, with my original iPod touch, even though I'm applying firm pressure, nothing happens. But on this iPhone 4, it does seem a bit stronger and less likely to distort or flash.
The manufacturing process for the third generation iPod touch is quite different from what we're experiencing here. The LCD display isn't laminated to the glass, which means there's less risk of distortion when pressing on the glass. Since distorting the glass wouldn't make contact with the LCD display, I'm not seeing anything unusual in this case.
So, if you guys are having the same trouble with your iPod touch, please let me know in the comments below. I'd love to hear about your experiences and see if there's anyone else who has noticed this issue.
