My Experience Reading My Wife's Favorite Books: A Personal Review
I have now officially finished reading all of the books that my wife recommended to me, and it's time for me to share my thoughts on each one. As I reflect on my reading experience, I must say that while my wife has excellent taste in books, our tastes don't entirely align. This is evident in both fantasy and romance genres.
My journey began with 9th House by Leigh Bardugo. This book was a good start to the series, but it didn't perfectly align with my preferred type of fantasy. I gave it a rating of four stars, and while I enjoyed reading it, I don't think it will become one of my favorite fantasy series. My wife and I share similar interests in fantasy, but I tend to prefer more dense world-building and character development than she does. Despite this, we both appreciated the book's unique magic system and intriguing plot.
The next book on my list was Heartless by Marissa Meyer. This romance novel was also well-written and had some of the most adult characters I've encountered in a Romance. While it wasn't my favorite romance novel, I found it to be an enjoyable read with no annoying characters. The story was engaging, and I appreciated the way the author explored complex themes such as love, loss, and identity. However, I wouldn't consider myself a fan of romances, and this book didn't change my opinion.
In stark contrast to Heartless, Deal with the Devil by Kresley Cole was an absolute disaster for me. This is the kind of romance that I dislike, with its overly simplistic plot and poorly developed characters. The writing style was also off-putting, making it difficult for me to connect with the story. I would not recommend this book to anyone, as it's a waste of time.
Fortunately, the next book on my list, The Push by Ashley Audrain, was a game-changer. This psychological thriller had me hooked from start to finish, and I found myself thoroughly invested in the story. The author did an excellent job of crafting intricate characters with complex motivations, making it easy for me to become immersed in their world. What truly impressed me was the way the author tackled difficult topics such as trauma, mental health, and relationships. This book left a lasting impression on me, and I'm eager to read more books from this author.
Finally, we have Love on the Brain by Christina Lauren. While not my favorite romance novel, I found this one to be enjoyable and engaging. The story had an interesting twist at the end that caught me off guard, and the characters were well-developed enough for me to care about their relationship. However, I wouldn't say that it's a standout in the Romance genre, as some of the supporting characters felt underdeveloped.
As I conclude my reading experience, I must admit that while we share similar tastes in books, our preferences don't align entirely. In fantasy, I prefer more complex world-building and character development than my wife does. However, this hasn't stopped me from appreciating the books she's recommended. On the other hand, her dislike of romance novels has been a challenge for me to navigate. Despite these differences, I appreciate her enthusiasm for reading and the recommendations that come with it.
In conclusion, I hope that my experience reading my wife's favorite books has provided valuable insight into our differing tastes in fiction. While we may not always see eye-to-eye on what makes a great book, I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore different genres and authors through her recommendations. If you're looking for more fantasy or romance book recommendations from someone with similar tastes, my wife's channel is definitely worth checking out. And if you're in the mood for something entirely new, like The Push by Ashley Audrain, I'd be happy to provide further recommendations on Thrillers and Psychological Suspense.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello and welcome back to my channel and welcome to the 13th episode of taste test wherein I test other booktubers tastes and see whether our tastes Salon in today's video I'm going to be reviewing my wife Chandler I'm excited to be filming this video for a number of reasons firstly this is my very first solo video on YouTube I'm used to being more of a background character on this channel so this will be the first time that I have read the books filmed and edited video of just me so it's very weird for me and it does give me more of a perspective into what Chandler goes through to make these videos for y'all and let me tell you it's a lot second reason to be excited is that I get to read five of my wife's favorite books honestly I don't know much about any of these books I have read some books that she likes in the past but most of them have been for dbbc and she normally picks them because she thinks that I'll have some hot takes to say about them or just a lot to say they're not necessarily her favorite books except for maybe Twilight so that being said I am interested to see if these books will be be a breath of fresh air for me or if they will be a nightmare from which I will not wake up the first book that I'm going to be reading for this video is ninth house by Lee bardugo this is a dark fantasy book about a girl named Alex who is part of a secret society at Yale that deals with ghosts and the Occult or something like that this is the book that I'm probably the most looking forward to reading based on the synopsis this kind of lines up more with my actual taste and I have also read a leardo book before I read Shadow and Bone I think for dbbc while it wasn't my favorite book I did enjoy it more than the average dbbc book so I'm looking forward to this one the second book that I will be reading is Heartless by Elsie silver this one is supposed to be a small town single dad romance I have no idea what I'm getting into with this one as some of you may know romance is not necessarily my preferred genre but I'm sure that there's going to be multiple in these top five hopefully I can get through this one unscathed the third book book is a deal with the Devil by Elizabeth oor this one is a grumpy boss enemies to lovers kind of romance about a plastic surgeon and his employee I think I'm starting to see a trend here because I think that heartless is also supposed to be a grumpy guy story I don't know maybe Chandler's trying to tell me something about that the fourth book is the push by Ashley Odin and I think that this is a psychological Thriller about motherhood this one sounds really interesting because even after reading the summary I have no idea what this book is about and I love a good psychological thriller so hopefully this will be one that I enjoy reading I really cannot wait to see why Chandler likes this one so much and then last but hopefully not least we have love on the brain by Ally Hazelwood and this is a stem Centric enemies to lovers book about a neuroscientist and her Archen enemy that are working on some kind of NASA project together I know that enemies to lovers is one of Chandler's favorite romance sub genres SL tropes so it shouldn't surprise me that there are multiple of those in her top five maybe one of these enemies to lovers books that I have in here will help me to understand why this is her favorite these are all of the books that I will be reading for this taste test guess it's time for me to try out solo vlogging my reading for the first time so wish me luck I will probably need it all right welcome to my first Vlog clip so I decided to start this video off with 9th house and I know that I'm holding the physical copy here but I'm actually listening to the audio book so this one opens up with a murder scene question mark there's dead people there's blood but we don't get too much information I honestly kind of like when a book starts like this it kind of reminds me of book one of Wheel of Time the very beginning of The Wheel of Time series I like kind of a mystery opening that you can tell probably has a really big impact on the character thoughts and feelings and motivations going forward but you don't really understand how or why until later so then we get our introduction to our main protagonist whose name is Galaxy but she goes by Alex she's taking part in some kind of ritual but it looks like she's supposed to be standing guard or like trying to make sure things go smoothly but she doesn't seem very confident so maybe she's new we learned that she's going to school at Yale even though she's a high school dropout she also used to be a drug ad of some sort we learned that very early on not too much information about that at the beginning but we do know that she can see ghosts and that is why she has been recruited to Ley house which is one of the houses of the veil at Yale it's a part of some kind of underground like secret society at Yale that deals with occult magic and stuff like that that for some reason is really strong in New Haven she is part of Ley house and is The Apprentice to to Daniel Arlington who they refer to as Darlington in the books who is like an older guy who also is part of Lethy house I'm not 100% sure what they do cuz it seems to be some sort of mix of detective work and like investigation they like interact with the police but also they oversee rituals I'm not really sure what they do here we learn that Darlington is missing and it seems that he's been swallowed up in some sort of hortal and they keep doing rituals to try to bring him back they haven't been able to bring him back and they constantly lie about where he's at so just another mystery so far this book is divided into alternating chapters from Alex's perspective which is in the present where she's trying to solve the mystery of a homicide of this girl which is probably a murder and probably somehow involves the societies but we're not really LED in on too much of that yet as of the 50% Mark she's still just trying to solve the murder and I guess that she's gotten like a couple of leads and followed up on some stuff but we haven't really learned much about it the other half of the book is From darlington's perspective and it seems to be in the past it's mostly describing his past either like his childhood or how he got into Lethy as well as his initial meetings with Alex and her becoming his apprentice and their first couple of Investigations and things like that so far the book is interesting for sure it has a nice mix of mystery and drama and I can tell that there's going to be a romance aspect between Alex and Darlington but there hasn't been too much on it it seems like they had some sort of romantic past because she seems to be missing him a lot but there hasn't been very many specifics as to why they're together or you know how long they were together before he went missing I do like that I'm at the halfway point and I can't really see where any of the Mysteries are going it's going to be interesting to see what the conclusion holds for me the only thing that I could maybe guess at is maybe darling disappearance and the murder that Alex is trying to solve will be tied together in some way maybe he's even involved in the murder of this girl somehow who knows I will also note it has been a pleasant change to read a book for Chandler where the main male character in the story isn't super annoying or overly horny or unrelatable in like a grumpy or like rude kind of way which sounds kind of funny but he seems pretty normal-ish how normal can you really be if you're part of a secret society that does occult magic but it should be very telling that I find this character to be one of the most normal male characters that I've read in any of these books so far so far I would give this book four stars I'm only 50% of the way through but there hasn't really been much that I haven't enjoyed and it's got a nice mystery aspect to it and I'm very curious to see where it's going to go the only reason why I wouldn't give it five is because it's a mystery and I think the conclusion of a mystery book like this where they're putting in a lot of questions I think the answers are very important so I think dependent on how this pans out this will probably be either a four or a five star I mean it could go down to a three if the ending is just really poor but I would imagine that this is going to be a four and I'm kind of regretting starting with this one because I just anticipate that this will be the book out of the five that will align the most with my taste and so it kind of sucks that I started with this cuz I hope that it doesn't all just go downhill from here but I guess that we'll see all right I finished 9th house overall I would say I'm like in between giving this a four star and a five star I enjoyed it I don't really have any complaints about it so I guess that that should be five star but I don't know there are so many books that I've read that I feel like this just doesn't match up to and maybe it's because I typically prefer an even longer book than this and more time to really like build and get into the characters that being said I did enjoy this book I enjoyed it enough that I plan on reading the sequel I don't want to get into too much about what happens in the end this is one of those books where I feel like I could spoil things a bit things didn't necessarily turn out how I thought that they would I will say and what may be kind of a spoiler this surprised me in that I thought that there was going to be more of a romance aspect between Galaxy and Darlington but there wasn't and maybe there will be in the next book I'm not really sure I'm not sure how that's going to pan out but this ended up being like basically zero romance to it at all it's a really good book so I'm not going to say that I'm surprised that it's one of Chandler's favorites but in my mind Chandler's taste normally have some kind of romance aspect to them and this one just does not and so it does surprise me a little bit that being said I can see why she likes it it is a good book it's well written the characters are well written the plot is good I think that it resolves in a nice way makes me interested to continue reading in the series but it's good I liked it I will say five star I don't think that I would reread this one so I don't know four star five star I guess if I'm questioning it I might as well go fourstar it's going to be a fourar star for me all right so I am currently halfway done with heartless and so far interesting I guess you know it's not too bad for a romance so basically Cade is a single dad in his mid-30s whose wife left him a couple of years ago because he's emotionally available and he's also a Rancher and so he works a lot and is gone a lot she just up and left one day which has made him kind of distant he has a 5-year-old son named Luke and he's currently looking for a nanny for the summer I am halfway through and I'm still not 100% sure why he only needs a nanny for the summer maybe I just like missed that but while trying to find a Nanny they've exhausted all of their options his sister says oh well don't worry I know someone and she won't try to fall in love with you because apparently that's a problem so in the next scene we see him at a coffee shop and he's admiring this woman who's ordering coffee in front of him and she drops something on the ground and he picks it up for her and turns out it's her panties she then gets very embarrassed and runs out of the coffee shop obviously we come to find out that this woman Willa is the one that his sister recommended at first he's not too pleased about the fact that the potential nanny is first of all a younger attractive woman I think she's in her mid 20s and he's in his mid-30s and not only that but she's you know going around dropping panties in the coffee shop or whatever Willa is the daughter of like a famous rock star and she's a bartender venue manager and she's looking for something to do for the summer because her brother is renovating so she's got nothing to do and she's like kind of a go with the flow type of person so whenever summer kid's sister recommends like hey why don't you check this out she's like oh okay sure so obviously they have like a rocky start but Luke immediately falls in love with her the kid he really likes her around and so Kade decides okay well I guess we'll just keep this lady around for now there's obvious sexual tension throughout the first half with like a couple of notable points being like a dancing scene at the bar and they have a couple of hot tub moments cuz Cade has a hot tub but for the most part a lot of what we see is Cade thinking about Willa inappropriately or you know he thinks inappropriately I'm not saying that it's inappropriate and we also have him thinking about how nice it is that Luke really enjoys being near her and that she seems to really enjoy being near Luke and then from Willis's perspective we see her floundering a bit with the prospect of keeping up with a young child and wondering if she's doing okay while also wondering why Kate's such a grumpy old man and seems to not really like her around until around the 50% Mark Cade kisses her and where I'm at in the book right now they had just had their kiss and Cade has kind of completely shut down and is scared that he's taking the relationship to an inappropriate place like he doesn't want to sleep with the nanny but he also does you know so far this book is getting a three star from me romance is not my preferred genre as I've said so I don't really know how much our tastes are going to align in that aspect but as far as romances go for the ones that I've read for this channel this one is not that bad the writing is pretty decent the characters aren't annoying and I also think that this book benefits from the fact that there is like a young child involved in the mix cuz I think that it makes both of the characters have to be a bit more adult they both really care about Luke Cade really isn't that grumpy even though he's supposed to be a grumpy old man he's not like annoyingly grumpy and Will's written in a pretty fun way so far I don't dislike the characters I would say that I haven't really gotten to a point in the book where I could really identify the main conflict though just knowing how romances go I'm sure there's going to be like a situation where most likely Willa is possibly going to be called away to rejoin like her former life a little bit early or something there's going to be this question of will she go back or will she stay with them like how much does she like Luke some kind of conflict like that but one of the things that I am not a huge fan of in Romance and probably why it's not one of my favorite genres is we all know how the story is going to end you know they will live together happily ever after and you know both love Luke and take care of him and stuff so there isn't really that much of a surprise to be had except for I'm sure there's going to be some sort of larger conflict in the second half of this that I just haven't gotten to yet I guess we'll see if I'm right or not but so far this is getting a three star not my favorite but I'm not hating it I'm not like dreading having to finish this book as of right now if I had to read another LC silver book I think that I would do it it's not my cup of tea oh the only other thing that I haven't mentioned that I'm not a super huge fan of is like the whole like hor girl Rancher thing that's going on here I know a lot of people are into that sorry for any horse girls if I'm offending you but it's not really for me so it's also the environment that they're in just isn't really my favorite but I guess we'll get my full rating in a bit whenever I finished this book so I finished heartless and surprisingly I'm going to give this one a four star I actually ended up enjoying the characters more than I expected to you know like I said before romance not necessarily my thing I think that this might be my favorite romance that I've read for this channel a big part of that like I mentioned at the 50% Mark is that the characters are a lot more mature and or relatable than a lot of the other books that I've read the conclusion I guess left me feeling a bit weird you know not to like spoil things too much but she ends up getting pregnant with his kid kind of before they even really Express to each other that they plan on like staying together by the end of the summer there is a lot of leadup to that that makes it kind of okay for me makes me not hate it but it still wasn't my favorite ending I kind of would have preferred had they decided to stay together purely based on the fact that they really liked each other and or Kade really liked the fact that Willa was really good with Luke that Luke also loved being around Willa and like missed her being there and stuff just I think it would have been better had they played more of the relationship and it going forward based on the fact that she was good with his existing kid and not the fact that she was now pregnant with his kid you know but other than that four stars for me kind of surprising I did not go into this one especially thinking that I would enjoy it I wouldn't read it again and I'm not saying it give me more like this but could have been a lot worse for sure best romance that I've read for this channel hello everyone hello this isn't my clip it's Hayden's clip yeah but I thought it would be fun for you to join since we're going to be talking about my halfway point in deal with the devil which I have really not been enjoying I know that you do enjoy this book and I'm not necessarily looking for you to make your case or anything but I'm going to be talking a lot of smack this book is really what I dislike about the romance genre when I imagine romance this is the kind of book that I picture and then other books that I kind of enjoy that are romance they surprise me I don't think about the good books that I've read I think about this book okay so to start things off we have Talia who is filling in for her friend as like an assistant to a British plastic surgeon yes start starting off she already calls him the devil one of the big things that I don't like about this book and I know that you'll probably have something to say about it but I just don't like that he is just kind of such a piece of the whole book she's figuring out oh I guess he's not as bad as I thought he was but like I don't really see what about that is attractive and it seems to be kind of a theme that I've noticed you really enjoy books with guys who are real pieces of I think it's that I'm a piece of and so it's like validating I guess oh someone could like love me just for me you know it's still just weird you know I in Romance I'm normally looking for something different than what I normally have not to say that I don't like the golden retriever HBO dumbass stupid as a sack of I already have that in real life so it's like I don't really need that in my stories and I think for me I think it creates a more interesting tension and I also like that in this book she knows that the entire time but he's funny he's not funny I don't think that he is a funny character he does I guess constantly make inap appropriate or misogynous jokes I guess if that's like funny you know but I'm saying like I don't really think that he's that clever he's just like oh so you want to see my penis it's just fun I don't know I like really don't even know how to like put into words about this book like what it is that really works for me yeah I thought it was kind of funny I just like the tone in Elizabeth work books a lot they're a little bit humorous but they're not what I'd call a romcom I don't think that this book is funny personally I don't really like either of the characters not that Talia has really done that much where I'm like I don't like her I don't relate to her she just also hasn't given me that much to like Hayes definitely has not given me much to like yeah just I just don't find anything like redeeming about him one of the other things that I don't like is before there are even any reasons for her to think that he's less of an she's constantly being like I can feel a tightening in my core thinking about him like touching me a little bit or something but then the next sentence she's like I hate this guy he's a piece of so as of where we're at right now I'm going to say this is pretty clearly to me going to be be a two star I would struggle to give it a one star because it's like readable I guess but I'm not enjoying it pretty much at all I can however understand why you like this book and this is the kind of book that I imagine you reading mostly like I would say like 85 90% of the books you read something like this and then the 10% are like the other three books that I've read that you say are your favorite that's what I imagine I think it's probably a more even split to be honest like I think this this video is actually fairly representative of my taste there's definitely books that I didn't include but I think each of the books that I picked kind of really gets you insight into the things that I like each one of these books I can see why you like it it doesn't surprise me but I will definitely say this one is easily going to be the one where our tastes aligned the least for sure fa hands down fair enough I guess this book is very indicative of what I imagine romance to be as a whole kind of in general Rance but that's what I'm saying I think that's unfair because no it definitely is all the other stuff that you've read is very indicative of the genre as well prior to me reading some of the other ones that I've read this is what I would imagine romance to be if there was a random romance novel on the the Shelf at the store you know like this is the kind of cover this is the kind of content that I would imagine would be in it because of that I'm like oh yeah well this really explains like why I don't really like romance as a whole cuz this is what I just imagine it to be so we're breaking down stereotypes is what I'm hearing I guess hopefully maybe it gets better but I just I really don't anticipate it being like that all right well I finished this one thank God and I don't have to read it anymore this was not my favorite the ending didn't really change that much for me about it I think one of the things that I don't really like about this book and other books like it is there doesn't seem to be that much of a story going on around the two characters getting to know each other none of it seemed relatable enough to me to really make the characters seem like they were growing either individually or together not very many people in this book were like likeable since I didn't really Vibe with the main characters and I didn't Vibe with the side characters aside from I guess like Jonathan there just wasn't very much for me in this book this one is easily a two star for me I can pretty much guarantee this is going to be the lowest rated one like I said earlier I can understand why Chandler likes it and what Chandler sees in it but at the end of the day this kind of romance is not for me and I hope that I don't have to read any more like this anytime soon okay well I am now halfway through level the brain I will say it is refreshing after having finished a deal with the devil am generally more engaged with like the overall story that's going on the characters might be like a little Annoying it's written in kind of like a nerdy way but like it's trying to be nerdy and like a Big Bang Theory style I'm not exactly a huge fan of that it's not like I don't like nerdy things but it's like trying too hard to be nerdy this story is kind of stems Centric it's about a female neuroscientist whose name is bee getting hired onto a NASA project and then she finds out that co-leading this project is I guess like a a a nemesis from back in her College days kind of described as a nemesis but from what I can tell he's not really a nemesis she just thinks that he dislikes her for some reason it seems like they've only had kind of a couple of interactions throughout the years I think part of that is she thinks that he wants to avoid her and maybe he does who knows she shows up in Houston meets Levi he saves her there's a big pile of equipment that's going to fall on her and he ends up saving her and then she faints then she starts her actual job and none of her equipment and stuff is showing up and there's like a whole thing where she's like why does my co-leader hate me because every time that she asks about it he's just like yeah we're working on it don't worry about it she thinks that he's trying to purposefully sabotage her come to find out he's not trying to sabotage her but the people above him is it's a bunch of politics in science that is causing her to not have a great time turns out Levi is not the enemy her like quote unquote Nemesis he's actually kind of a nice guy they have a couple of run-ins she gets trapped in a cemetery she ends up staying at his house there's also a lot of talk in this book about women in stem obviously this is like a very important conversation to have and I say this as like a stem major myself always happy to see it get more attention I hope that not just stem major are aware of the underrepresentation of women and minorities in stem it is a widespread issue but yeah this book does a good job trying to address some of those things and address some of the frustrations I have been enjoying that so far this book is getting like a three star from me I do like the subject matter a lot more than deal with the Devil the characters are just like a little bit annoying for me and and I'm not super relating to them this one's off to like a mediocre start I can already tell where this story is going he's going to end up being a really cool guy they already share like all of the same interests from like the halfway point right now there at a an expo where I'm met in the book and she just turns around and sees like her ex fiance and ex best friend whom said fiance cheated on her with and she faints again and that's where I just left off if I'm being honest I'm only like a little bit interested to see where this one goes cuz I already know where it's going to go they're going to do good on the project they're going to be together blah blah blah it's really not that interesting to me but um I'm going to finish it either way this is almost definitely going to be a three star for me hello everybody so last night I finished reading love on the brain and not that bad you know it was like kind of fun I I think I know in my previous Clips I kind of mentioned that the characters were like just a little bit annoying and I won't say that it grew on me but I think I learned to look past it kind of in my mind the character that the author is trying to portray in this book is is kind of a little bit of like an annoying nerdy type of person and I think if they were to have written it in like a less annoying way then it wouldn't have really fit what they were going for I think it would have been disingenuous to the character so I guess I like appreciated it a bit the story was kind of fun it wasn't like my favorite story of all time but I was a little bit interested in how it was going to pan out I think that it ended on a decent note the only thing that I wish that they would have covered a little bit more in in terms of like how it worked itself out was one of the problems towards the very end is that she runs like a an anonymous kind of like Twitter handle that she uses to post about her complaints about like stem right and especially in terms of the underrepresentation of like women in minorities her Twitter gets hacked somehow is dming the leaders of this standardized test that they're kind of talking smack about and kind of organizing people to boycott right everyone kind of hates her on Twitter for it you know obviously they don't know who she is but it it gets leaked these hacked screenshots of DMS between her and this CEO of one of these testing places that she's trying to I guess extort money from him or something and it's obviously not her but everyone sees these DMS and they're like oh my goodness I can't believe that we ever trusted you blah blah blah but it turns out you know her her Twitter wasn't like hacked as much as someone else got onto her computer and sent these DMS right in the end we find out that she's no longer Anonymous on Twitter and that people think that it's really cool or whatever but I didn't ever see any kind of resolution as to how they got everyone on Twitter to believe that it wasn't her that actually sent these DMS and that is probably the most unbelievable part to me that you could get people on Twitter to like back off of their like mob mentality so yeah that that was the only part that that was like a little bit eh to me but I don't really think that that changed at all my opinions on the book I think that it was kind of a fun read it wasn't too bad would I go back to it no would I hate to have to read another one of these books or a book similar to it also no very middle of the road for me very much three star for me this definitely lands in the middle for me in terms of the romances that I had to read it just is what it is you know not too bad three star for me wow let's talk about the push I am halfway through this book and just wow is most of what I can say I mean this book is excellent so far I'm I'm halfway through and I I really don't want to talk too much about the actual content of the book because this is one that I feel like you kind of got to read and if I tell you too much about it then it will have probably less of an impact on you it really follows the childhood and motherhood of like three generations of women from the same family it's told from a firstperson perspective of the I guess like youngest woman in the chain who has become a mother she is kind of telling her mother and her grandmother's story from what she knows and also telling her own story it's written as if she is writing like a letter or like a journal to her father of her child I can't really tell exactly what the relationship is but it's it's just written in such a unique way and the content is just so unique it's making me feel things more than any book has made me feel in like a long time and I don't necessarily know what emotions I'm feeling but let me tell you there are feels yesterday we'll just say yesterday after I was done reading it I needed to read something else to like get me out of that headp space That's How Strong of an effect that it had on me it has been really good I think that this one might be the first five star of the group I know that 9th house I was kind of in between four and five star and I ended up going with a four star I mean if this continues like it is and I can only imagine that it's going to get even better this will be an easy five star for me I guess that we'll see where it goes but it has been a wild ride and all that I can say is that you should read this book for sure it's insane hello and welcome to my first solo car Vlog where I find out that this camera doesn't really sit anywhere in this car so I have to hold it in my hand and try to hold it still which I've never really done before so C me some slack on that I just finished the push wow what a book actually what a book I'm going to give this one a five star I'm just going to cut straight to the Chase and say that I'm giving this one a five star it's so hard to put into words what all makes this book as good as I think that it is the way that it is written it is like one of the most real feeling books that I've ever read and while I know that it's fictional the perspective that it's written from makes me feel like there is no way that the author didn't experience these things themselves it feels so much like a firsthand account probably more so than really any book that I've ever read including actual firsthand accounts there's just something about it that it's so raw and it's so real it puts you in such a mood and admittedly kind of like Bleak and like niist oh I don't want those people in the background I'm in the parking lot at the grocery store so okay well there's a lot of people around so I guess we're going to be filming from this lovely angle for now as to not get too many other random people into the camera who you know may not want to be on my video I don't know why you wouldn't want to be but anyways the push all that I can really say is you have to read this one for yourself because I don't want to like spoil things about it there is just one of the few books that I've read in you know the past couple of years of me really getting back into reading that is like actually kind of affected me emotionally for longer than me reading it you know I've only really been reading it over the past 2 days but every time that I put it down I need to like do something else for a little bit so that being said consider yourself warned don't read this book unless you think you're ready I guess and and I don't even mean that necessarily from like a trigger warning perspective I think that there's a lot of people who this kind of thing would not affect them because it's something that they've experienced personally or been close to someone who's experienced this kind of thing it's like very emotionally taxing but I think in a very good rewarding kind of way all I can really say is like you got to read this one it's a five star for me I think it's probably the only F star out of all of these books and I really didn't expect it to be this one and I don't read too many psychological Thriller is types of books though I do really enjoy the genre I just don't end up getting into too many of them this was just this was a whole another level of really just being there I don't know I I felt like I was kind of like one with the main character SL I guess narrator of the book and you got to read it five stars easy easy five all right so I have now officially finished all of the books for this video and so I guess it's time that we get into my final thoughts about reading my wife's favorite books so firstly I started out with 9th house this was a pretty good book I don't think that it perfectly aligns with the kind of fantasy that I'm into but it was pretty good I think I gave it a fourstar and I'll stick to that it was good I'm willing to read the next book in the series but it wasn't my favorite book or you know I don't think that it's going to become one of my favorite fantasy series but pretty good I think that me and Chandler kind of align on fantasy but I think that I tend to like a lot more dense fantasy it's my preferred genre yeah I think I I like it a lot more dense in the world building and or character development and just like length than Chandler tends to like then next I read heartless and this book was also pretty good I think I gave this one a four star as well this is one of the better romances that I've read like I've said many times before romance not my favorite this one however not that bad the characters weren't annoying I thought that they were pretty probably some of the most adult characters that I've encountered in Romance this far overall not that bad I would read another book like this if I had to but again romance not my preferred speaking of romance and not my preferred deal with the devil this was easily by far my least favorite book that I read for this video this is the opposite of what my tastes are in books in general and especially in Rance which you know to be fair I don't read that much of but this is the kind of romance that I do not like don't give me more books like this please this makes my head hurt two stars only reason it's not one star is because it was readable but it was borderline borderline unreadable for me then we had the push and this book is one of the better books that I've read read in quite some time and you know it's hard for me to compare it to other books that I read because I don't typically read Thrillers I will definitely be reading more Thrillers after this one I think that this author has one other book and I would love to pick up that other book and give it a read to I just think that she does an incredible job at articulating thoughts and feelings from the perspective of the narrator I guess of the book and just really making you feel like you're there it was such a wild ride five stars highest rate book from this video for sure and then lastly we have love on the brain this one was not offensive it was kind of fun it was not too bad I think the length was like pretty appropriate for it as well I don't think that the Romantic conflict in this book was that interesting definitely the actual outside story conflict was a bit more interesting in this one than the romance itself it wasn't a tough read I didn't hate going through this again romance not my preferred this wasn't the best romance that I've read not the worst for sure three stars on this one so in conclusion I would say that me and Chandler's tastes are somewhat similar for sure in my opinion Chandler has incredible tastes in books it's just that our tastes don't necessarily line up all of the time and I think that even in the genres where they do line up uh like in fantasy we still prefer different things like we want different things out of the fantasy books that we're reading I think for me I'm still kind of on the fence about her romance recommendations for me personally if it's a fan FY book also kind of like 50/50 but at the end of the day like I'm still probably going to enjoy a fantasy book that she recommends me even if it's not my favorite I don't think it's going to be bad thrillers on the other hand I definitely need some more recommendations because I know that she reads more of them than I do though it's not her you know top most red genre I think that she's probably got a lot to say there well thank you guys so much for joining me on this adventure of my first video I hope you guys enjoyed it if you do you should watch more videos from And subscribe to my wife because she is much better at doing this at reading at giving book recommendations at making the videos uh all of it just I am so proud of her and the channel that she's built here and so proud of you guys and thank you so much for sticking around this far I appreciate ithello and welcome back to my channel and welcome to the 13th episode of taste test wherein I test other booktubers tastes and see whether our tastes Salon in today's video I'm going to be reviewing my wife Chandler I'm excited to be filming this video for a number of reasons firstly this is my very first solo video on YouTube I'm used to being more of a background character on this channel so this will be the first time that I have read the books filmed and edited video of just me so it's very weird for me and it does give me more of a perspective into what Chandler goes through to make these videos for y'all and let me tell you it's a lot second reason to be excited is that I get to read five of my wife's favorite books honestly I don't know much about any of these books I have read some books that she likes in the past but most of them have been for dbbc and she normally picks them because she thinks that I'll have some hot takes to say about them or just a lot to say they're not necessarily her favorite books except for maybe Twilight so that being said I am interested to see if these books will be be a breath of fresh air for me or if they will be a nightmare from which I will not wake up the first book that I'm going to be reading for this video is ninth house by Lee bardugo this is a dark fantasy book about a girl named Alex who is part of a secret society at Yale that deals with ghosts and the Occult or something like that this is the book that I'm probably the most looking forward to reading based on the synopsis this kind of lines up more with my actual taste and I have also read a leardo book before I read Shadow and Bone I think for dbbc while it wasn't my favorite book I did enjoy it more than the average dbbc book so I'm looking forward to this one the second book that I will be reading is Heartless by Elsie silver this one is supposed to be a small town single dad romance I have no idea what I'm getting into with this one as some of you may know romance is not necessarily my preferred genre but I'm sure that there's going to be multiple in these top five hopefully I can get through this one unscathed the third book book is a deal with the Devil by Elizabeth oor this one is a grumpy boss enemies to lovers kind of romance about a plastic surgeon and his employee I think I'm starting to see a trend here because I think that heartless is also supposed to be a grumpy guy story I don't know maybe Chandler's trying to tell me something about that the fourth book is the push by Ashley Odin and I think that this is a psychological Thriller about motherhood this one sounds really interesting because even after reading the summary I have no idea what this book is about and I love a good psychological thriller so hopefully this will be one that I enjoy reading I really cannot wait to see why Chandler likes this one so much and then last but hopefully not least we have love on the brain by Ally Hazelwood and this is a stem Centric enemies to lovers book about a neuroscientist and her Archen enemy that are working on some kind of NASA project together I know that enemies to lovers is one of Chandler's favorite romance sub genres SL tropes so it shouldn't surprise me that there are multiple of those in her top five maybe one of these enemies to lovers books that I have in here will help me to understand why this is her favorite these are all of the books that I will be reading for this taste test guess it's time for me to try out solo vlogging my reading for the first time so wish me luck I will probably need it all right welcome to my first Vlog clip so I decided to start this video off with 9th house and I know that I'm holding the physical copy here but I'm actually listening to the audio book so this one opens up with a murder scene question mark there's dead people there's blood but we don't get too much information I honestly kind of like when a book starts like this it kind of reminds me of book one of Wheel of Time the very beginning of The Wheel of Time series I like kind of a mystery opening that you can tell probably has a really big impact on the character thoughts and feelings and motivations going forward but you don't really understand how or why until later so then we get our introduction to our main protagonist whose name is Galaxy but she goes by Alex she's taking part in some kind of ritual but it looks like she's supposed to be standing guard or like trying to make sure things go smoothly but she doesn't seem very confident so maybe she's new we learned that she's going to school at Yale even though she's a high school dropout she also used to be a drug ad of some sort we learned that very early on not too much information about that at the beginning but we do know that she can see ghosts and that is why she has been recruited to Ley house which is one of the houses of the veil at Yale it's a part of some kind of underground like secret society at Yale that deals with occult magic and stuff like that that for some reason is really strong in New Haven she is part of Ley house and is The Apprentice to to Daniel Arlington who they refer to as Darlington in the books who is like an older guy who also is part of Lethy house I'm not 100% sure what they do cuz it seems to be some sort of mix of detective work and like investigation they like interact with the police but also they oversee rituals I'm not really sure what they do here we learn that Darlington is missing and it seems that he's been swallowed up in some sort of hortal and they keep doing rituals to try to bring him back they haven't been able to bring him back and they constantly lie about where he's at so just another mystery so far this book is divided into alternating chapters from Alex's perspective which is in the present where she's trying to solve the mystery of a homicide of this girl which is probably a murder and probably somehow involves the societies but we're not really LED in on too much of that yet as of the 50% Mark she's still just trying to solve the murder and I guess that she's gotten like a couple of leads and followed up on some stuff but we haven't really learned much about it the other half of the book is From darlington's perspective and it seems to be in the past it's mostly describing his past either like his childhood or how he got into Lethy as well as his initial meetings with Alex and her becoming his apprentice and their first couple of Investigations and things like that so far the book is interesting for sure it has a nice mix of mystery and drama and I can tell that there's going to be a romance aspect between Alex and Darlington but there hasn't been too much on it it seems like they had some sort of romantic past because she seems to be missing him a lot but there hasn't been very many specifics as to why they're together or you know how long they were together before he went missing I do like that I'm at the halfway point and I can't really see where any of the Mysteries are going it's going to be interesting to see what the conclusion holds for me the only thing that I could maybe guess at is maybe darling disappearance and the murder that Alex is trying to solve will be tied together in some way maybe he's even involved in the murder of this girl somehow who knows I will also note it has been a pleasant change to read a book for Chandler where the main male character in the story isn't super annoying or overly horny or unrelatable in like a grumpy or like rude kind of way which sounds kind of funny but he seems pretty normal-ish how normal can you really be if you're part of a secret society that does occult magic but it should be very telling that I find this character to be one of the most normal male characters that I've read in any of these books so far so far I would give this book four stars I'm only 50% of the way through but there hasn't really been much that I haven't enjoyed and it's got a nice mystery aspect to it and I'm very curious to see where it's going to go the only reason why I wouldn't give it five is because it's a mystery and I think the conclusion of a mystery book like this where they're putting in a lot of questions I think the answers are very important so I think dependent on how this pans out this will probably be either a four or a five star I mean it could go down to a three if the ending is just really poor but I would imagine that this is going to be a four and I'm kind of regretting starting with this one because I just anticipate that this will be the book out of the five that will align the most with my taste and so it kind of sucks that I started with this cuz I hope that it doesn't all just go downhill from here but I guess that we'll see all right I finished 9th house overall I would say I'm like in between giving this a four star and a five star I enjoyed it I don't really have any complaints about it so I guess that that should be five star but I don't know there are so many books that I've read that I feel like this just doesn't match up to and maybe it's because I typically prefer an even longer book than this and more time to really like build and get into the characters that being said I did enjoy this book I enjoyed it enough that I plan on reading the sequel I don't want to get into too much about what happens in the end this is one of those books where I feel like I could spoil things a bit things didn't necessarily turn out how I thought that they would I will say and what may be kind of a spoiler this surprised me in that I thought that there was going to be more of a romance aspect between Galaxy and Darlington but there wasn't and maybe there will be in the next book I'm not really sure I'm not sure how that's going to pan out but this ended up being like basically zero romance to it at all it's a really good book so I'm not going to say that I'm surprised that it's one of Chandler's favorites but in my mind Chandler's taste normally have some kind of romance aspect to them and this one just does not and so it does surprise me a little bit that being said I can see why she likes it it is a good book it's well written the characters are well written the plot is good I think that it resolves in a nice way makes me interested to continue reading in the series but it's good I liked it I will say five star I don't think that I would reread this one so I don't know four star five star I guess if I'm questioning it I might as well go fourstar it's going to be a fourar star for me all right so I am currently halfway done with heartless and so far interesting I guess you know it's not too bad for a romance so basically Cade is a single dad in his mid-30s whose wife left him a couple of years ago because he's emotionally available and he's also a Rancher and so he works a lot and is gone a lot she just up and left one day which has made him kind of distant he has a 5-year-old son named Luke and he's currently looking for a nanny for the summer I am halfway through and I'm still not 100% sure why he only needs a nanny for the summer maybe I just like missed that but while trying to find a Nanny they've exhausted all of their options his sister says oh well don't worry I know someone and she won't try to fall in love with you because apparently that's a problem so in the next scene we see him at a coffee shop and he's admiring this woman who's ordering coffee in front of him and she drops something on the ground and he picks it up for her and turns out it's her panties she then gets very embarrassed and runs out of the coffee shop obviously we come to find out that this woman Willa is the one that his sister recommended at first he's not too pleased about the fact that the potential nanny is first of all a younger attractive woman I think she's in her mid 20s and he's in his mid-30s and not only that but she's you know going around dropping panties in the coffee shop or whatever Willa is the daughter of like a famous rock star and she's a bartender venue manager and she's looking for something to do for the summer because her brother is renovating so she's got nothing to do and she's like kind of a go with the flow type of person so whenever summer kid's sister recommends like hey why don't you check this out she's like oh okay sure so obviously they have like a rocky start but Luke immediately falls in love with her the kid he really likes her around and so Kade decides okay well I guess we'll just keep this lady around for now there's obvious sexual tension throughout the first half with like a couple of notable points being like a dancing scene at the bar and they have a couple of hot tub moments cuz Cade has a hot tub but for the most part a lot of what we see is Cade thinking about Willa inappropriately or you know he thinks inappropriately I'm not saying that it's inappropriate and we also have him thinking about how nice it is that Luke really enjoys being near her and that she seems to really enjoy being near Luke and then from Willis's perspective we see her floundering a bit with the prospect of keeping up with a young child and wondering if she's doing okay while also wondering why Kate's such a grumpy old man and seems to not really like her around until around the 50% Mark Cade kisses her and where I'm at in the book right now they had just had their kiss and Cade has kind of completely shut down and is scared that he's taking the relationship to an inappropriate place like he doesn't want to sleep with the nanny but he also does you know so far this book is getting a three star from me romance is not my preferred genre as I've said so I don't really know how much our tastes are going to align in that aspect but as far as romances go for the ones that I've read for this channel this one is not that bad the writing is pretty decent the characters aren't annoying and I also think that this book benefits from the fact that there is like a young child involved in the mix cuz I think that it makes both of the characters have to be a bit more adult they both really care about Luke Cade really isn't that grumpy even though he's supposed to be a grumpy old man he's not like annoyingly grumpy and Will's written in a pretty fun way so far I don't dislike the characters I would say that I haven't really gotten to a point in the book where I could really identify the main conflict though just knowing how romances go I'm sure there's going to be like a situation where most likely Willa is possibly going to be called away to rejoin like her former life a little bit early or something there's going to be this question of will she go back or will she stay with them like how much does she like Luke some kind of conflict like that but one of the things that I am not a huge fan of in Romance and probably why it's not one of my favorite genres is we all know how the story is going to end you know they will live together happily ever after and you know both love Luke and take care of him and stuff so there isn't really that much of a surprise to be had except for I'm sure there's going to be some sort of larger conflict in the second half of this that I just haven't gotten to yet I guess we'll see if I'm right or not but so far this is getting a three star not my favorite but I'm not hating it I'm not like dreading having to finish this book as of right now if I had to read another LC silver book I think that I would do it it's not my cup of tea oh the only other thing that I haven't mentioned that I'm not a super huge fan of is like the whole like hor girl Rancher thing that's going on here I know a lot of people are into that sorry for any horse girls if I'm offending you but it's not really for me so it's also the environment that they're in just isn't really my favorite but I guess we'll get my full rating in a bit whenever I finished this book so I finished heartless and surprisingly I'm going to give this one a four star I actually ended up enjoying the characters more than I expected to you know like I said before romance not necessarily my thing I think that this might be my favorite romance that I've read for this channel a big part of that like I mentioned at the 50% Mark is that the characters are a lot more mature and or relatable than a lot of the other books that I've read the conclusion I guess left me feeling a bit weird you know not to like spoil things too much but she ends up getting pregnant with his kid kind of before they even really Express to each other that they plan on like staying together by the end of the summer there is a lot of leadup to that that makes it kind of okay for me makes me not hate it but it still wasn't my favorite ending I kind of would have preferred had they decided to stay together purely based on the fact that they really liked each other and or Kade really liked the fact that Willa was really good with Luke that Luke also loved being around Willa and like missed her being there and stuff just I think it would have been better had they played more of the relationship and it going forward based on the fact that she was good with his existing kid and not the fact that she was now pregnant with his kid you know but other than that four stars for me kind of surprising I did not go into this one especially thinking that I would enjoy it I wouldn't read it again and I'm not saying it give me more like this but could have been a lot worse for sure best romance that I've read for this channel hello everyone hello this isn't my clip it's Hayden's clip yeah but I thought it would be fun for you to join since we're going to be talking about my halfway point in deal with the devil which I have really not been enjoying I know that you do enjoy this book and I'm not necessarily looking for you to make your case or anything but I'm going to be talking a lot of smack this book is really what I dislike about the romance genre when I imagine romance this is the kind of book that I picture and then other books that I kind of enjoy that are romance they surprise me I don't think about the good books that I've read I think about this book okay so to start things off we have Talia who is filling in for her friend as like an assistant to a British plastic surgeon yes start starting off she already calls him the devil one of the big things that I don't like about this book and I know that you'll probably have something to say about it but I just don't like that he is just kind of such a piece of the whole book she's figuring out oh I guess he's not as bad as I thought he was but like I don't really see what about that is attractive and it seems to be kind of a theme that I've noticed you really enjoy books with guys who are real pieces of I think it's that I'm a piece of and so it's like validating I guess oh someone could like love me just for me you know it's still just weird you know I in Romance I'm normally looking for something different than what I normally have not to say that I don't like the golden retriever HBO dumbass stupid as a sack of I already have that in real life so it's like I don't really need that in my stories and I think for me I think it creates a more interesting tension and I also like that in this book she knows that the entire time but he's funny he's not funny I don't think that he is a funny character he does I guess constantly make inap appropriate or misogynous jokes I guess if that's like funny you know but I'm saying like I don't really think that he's that clever he's just like oh so you want to see my penis it's just fun I don't know I like really don't even know how to like put into words about this book like what it is that really works for me yeah I thought it was kind of funny I just like the tone in Elizabeth work books a lot they're a little bit humorous but they're not what I'd call a romcom I don't think that this book is funny personally I don't really like either of the characters not that Talia has really done that much where I'm like I don't like her I don't relate to her she just also hasn't given me that much to like Hayes definitely has not given me much to like yeah just I just don't find anything like redeeming about him one of the other things that I don't like is before there are even any reasons for her to think that he's less of an she's constantly being like I can feel a tightening in my core thinking about him like touching me a little bit or something but then the next sentence she's like I hate this guy he's a piece of so as of where we're at right now I'm going to say this is pretty clearly to me going to be be a two star I would struggle to give it a one star because it's like readable I guess but I'm not enjoying it pretty much at all I can however understand why you like this book and this is the kind of book that I imagine you reading mostly like I would say like 85 90% of the books you read something like this and then the 10% are like the other three books that I've read that you say are your favorite that's what I imagine I think it's probably a more even split to be honest like I think this this video is actually fairly representative of my taste there's definitely books that I didn't include but I think each of the books that I picked kind of really gets you insight into the things that I like each one of these books I can see why you like it it doesn't surprise me but I will definitely say this one is easily going to be the one where our tastes aligned the least for sure fa hands down fair enough I guess this book is very indicative of what I imagine romance to be as a whole kind of in general Rance but that's what I'm saying I think that's unfair because no it definitely is all the other stuff that you've read is very indicative of the genre as well prior to me reading some of the other ones that I've read this is what I would imagine romance to be if there was a random romance novel on the the Shelf at the store you know like this is the kind of cover this is the kind of content that I would imagine would be in it because of that I'm like oh yeah well this really explains like why I don't really like romance as a whole cuz this is what I just imagine it to be so we're breaking down stereotypes is what I'm hearing I guess hopefully maybe it gets better but I just I really don't anticipate it being like that all right well I finished this one thank God and I don't have to read it anymore this was not my favorite the ending didn't really change that much for me about it I think one of the things that I don't really like about this book and other books like it is there doesn't seem to be that much of a story going on around the two characters getting to know each other none of it seemed relatable enough to me to really make the characters seem like they were growing either individually or together not very many people in this book were like likeable since I didn't really Vibe with the main characters and I didn't Vibe with the side characters aside from I guess like Jonathan there just wasn't very much for me in this book this one is easily a two star for me I can pretty much guarantee this is going to be the lowest rated one like I said earlier I can understand why Chandler likes it and what Chandler sees in it but at the end of the day this kind of romance is not for me and I hope that I don't have to read any more like this anytime soon okay well I am now halfway through level the brain I will say it is refreshing after having finished a deal with the devil am generally more engaged with like the overall story that's going on the characters might be like a little Annoying it's written in kind of like a nerdy way but like it's trying to be nerdy and like a Big Bang Theory style I'm not exactly a huge fan of that it's not like I don't like nerdy things but it's like trying too hard to be nerdy this story is kind of stems Centric it's about a female neuroscientist whose name is bee getting hired onto a NASA project and then she finds out that co-leading this project is I guess like a a a nemesis from back in her College days kind of described as a nemesis but from what I can tell he's not really a nemesis she just thinks that he dislikes her for some reason it seems like they've only had kind of a couple of interactions throughout the years I think part of that is she thinks that he wants to avoid her and maybe he does who knows she shows up in Houston meets Levi he saves her there's a big pile of equipment that's going to fall on her and he ends up saving her and then she faints then she starts her actual job and none of her equipment and stuff is showing up and there's like a whole thing where she's like why does my co-leader hate me because every time that she asks about it he's just like yeah we're working on it don't worry about it she thinks that he's trying to purposefully sabotage her come to find out he's not trying to sabotage her but the people above him is it's a bunch of politics in science that is causing her to not have a great time turns out Levi is not the enemy her like quote unquote Nemesis he's actually kind of a nice guy they have a couple of run-ins she gets trapped in a cemetery she ends up staying at his house there's also a lot of talk in this book about women in stem obviously this is like a very important conversation to have and I say this as like a stem major myself always happy to see it get more attention I hope that not just stem major are aware of the underrepresentation of women and minorities in stem it is a widespread issue but yeah this book does a good job trying to address some of those things and address some of the frustrations I have been enjoying that so far this book is getting like a three star from me I do like the subject matter a lot more than deal with the Devil the characters are just like a little bit annoying for me and and I'm not super relating to them this one's off to like a mediocre start I can already tell where this story is going he's going to end up being a really cool guy they already share like all of the same interests from like the halfway point right now there at a an expo where I'm met in the book and she just turns around and sees like her ex fiance and ex best friend whom said fiance cheated on her with and she faints again and that's where I just left off if I'm being honest I'm only like a little bit interested to see where this one goes cuz I already know where it's going to go they're going to do good on the project they're going to be together blah blah blah it's really not that interesting to me but um I'm going to finish it either way this is almost definitely going to be a three star for me hello everybody so last night I finished reading love on the brain and not that bad you know it was like kind of fun I I think I know in my previous Clips I kind of mentioned that the characters were like just a little bit annoying and I won't say that it grew on me but I think I learned to look past it kind of in my mind the character that the author is trying to portray in this book is is kind of a little bit of like an annoying nerdy type of person and I think if they were to have written it in like a less annoying way then it wouldn't have really fit what they were going for I think it would have been disingenuous to the character so I guess I like appreciated it a bit the story was kind of fun it wasn't like my favorite story of all time but I was a little bit interested in how it was going to pan out I think that it ended on a decent note the only thing that I wish that they would have covered a little bit more in in terms of like how it worked itself out was one of the problems towards the very end is that she runs like a an anonymous kind of like Twitter handle that she uses to post about her complaints about like stem right and especially in terms of the underrepresentation of like women in minorities her Twitter gets hacked somehow is dming the leaders of this standardized test that they're kind of talking smack about and kind of organizing people to boycott right everyone kind of hates her on Twitter for it you know obviously they don't know who she is but it it gets leaked these hacked screenshots of DMS between her and this CEO of one of these testing places that she's trying to I guess extort money from him or something and it's obviously not her but everyone sees these DMS and they're like oh my goodness I can't believe that we ever trusted you blah blah blah but it turns out you know her her Twitter wasn't like hacked as much as someone else got onto her computer and sent these DMS right in the end we find out that she's no longer Anonymous on Twitter and that people think that it's really cool or whatever but I didn't ever see any kind of resolution as to how they got everyone on Twitter to believe that it wasn't her that actually sent these DMS and that is probably the most unbelievable part to me that you could get people on Twitter to like back off of their like mob mentality so yeah that that was the only part that that was like a little bit eh to me but I don't really think that that changed at all my opinions on the book I think that it was kind of a fun read it wasn't too bad would I go back to it no would I hate to have to read another one of these books or a book similar to it also no very middle of the road for me very much three star for me this definitely lands in the middle for me in terms of the romances that I had to read it just is what it is you know not too bad three star for me wow let's talk about the push I am halfway through this book and just wow is most of what I can say I mean this book is excellent so far I'm I'm halfway through and I I really don't want to talk too much about the actual content of the book because this is one that I feel like you kind of got to read and if I tell you too much about it then it will have probably less of an impact on you it really follows the childhood and motherhood of like three generations of women from the same family it's told from a firstperson perspective of the I guess like youngest woman in the chain who has become a mother she is kind of telling her mother and her grandmother's story from what she knows and also telling her own story it's written as if she is writing like a letter or like a journal to her father of her child I can't really tell exactly what the relationship is but it's it's just written in such a unique way and the content is just so unique it's making me feel things more than any book has made me feel in like a long time and I don't necessarily know what emotions I'm feeling but let me tell you there are feels yesterday we'll just say yesterday after I was done reading it I needed to read something else to like get me out of that headp space That's How Strong of an effect that it had on me it has been really good I think that this one might be the first five star of the group I know that 9th house I was kind of in between four and five star and I ended up going with a four star I mean if this continues like it is and I can only imagine that it's going to get even better this will be an easy five star for me I guess that we'll see where it goes but it has been a wild ride and all that I can say is that you should read this book for sure it's insane hello and welcome to my first solo car Vlog where I find out that this camera doesn't really sit anywhere in this car so I have to hold it in my hand and try to hold it still which I've never really done before so C me some slack on that I just finished the push wow what a book actually what a book I'm going to give this one a five star I'm just going to cut straight to the Chase and say that I'm giving this one a five star it's so hard to put into words what all makes this book as good as I think that it is the way that it is written it is like one of the most real feeling books that I've ever read and while I know that it's fictional the perspective that it's written from makes me feel like there is no way that the author didn't experience these things themselves it feels so much like a firsthand account probably more so than really any book that I've ever read including actual firsthand accounts there's just something about it that it's so raw and it's so real it puts you in such a mood and admittedly kind of like Bleak and like niist oh I don't want those people in the background I'm in the parking lot at the grocery store so okay well there's a lot of people around so I guess we're going to be filming from this lovely angle for now as to not get too many other random people into the camera who you know may not want to be on my video I don't know why you wouldn't want to be but anyways the push all that I can really say is you have to read this one for yourself because I don't want to like spoil things about it there is just one of the few books that I've read in you know the past couple of years of me really getting back into reading that is like actually kind of affected me emotionally for longer than me reading it you know I've only really been reading it over the past 2 days but every time that I put it down I need to like do something else for a little bit so that being said consider yourself warned don't read this book unless you think you're ready I guess and and I don't even mean that necessarily from like a trigger warning perspective I think that there's a lot of people who this kind of thing would not affect them because it's something that they've experienced personally or been close to someone who's experienced this kind of thing it's like very emotionally taxing but I think in a very good rewarding kind of way all I can really say is like you got to read this one it's a five star for me I think it's probably the only F star out of all of these books and I really didn't expect it to be this one and I don't read too many psychological Thriller is types of books though I do really enjoy the genre I just don't end up getting into too many of them this was just this was a whole another level of really just being there I don't know I I felt like I was kind of like one with the main character SL I guess narrator of the book and you got to read it five stars easy easy five all right so I have now officially finished all of the books for this video and so I guess it's time that we get into my final thoughts about reading my wife's favorite books so firstly I started out with 9th house this was a pretty good book I don't think that it perfectly aligns with the kind of fantasy that I'm into but it was pretty good I think I gave it a fourstar and I'll stick to that it was good I'm willing to read the next book in the series but it wasn't my favorite book or you know I don't think that it's going to become one of my favorite fantasy series but pretty good I think that me and Chandler kind of align on fantasy but I think that I tend to like a lot more dense fantasy it's my preferred genre yeah I think I I like it a lot more dense in the world building and or character development and just like length than Chandler tends to like then next I read heartless and this book was also pretty good I think I gave this one a four star as well this is one of the better romances that I've read like I've said many times before romance not my favorite this one however not that bad the characters weren't annoying I thought that they were pretty probably some of the most adult characters that I've encountered in Romance this far overall not that bad I would read another book like this if I had to but again romance not my preferred speaking of romance and not my preferred deal with the devil this was easily by far my least favorite book that I read for this video this is the opposite of what my tastes are in books in general and especially in Rance which you know to be fair I don't read that much of but this is the kind of romance that I do not like don't give me more books like this please this makes my head hurt two stars only reason it's not one star is because it was readable but it was borderline borderline unreadable for me then we had the push and this book is one of the better books that I've read read in quite some time and you know it's hard for me to compare it to other books that I read because I don't typically read Thrillers I will definitely be reading more Thrillers after this one I think that this author has one other book and I would love to pick up that other book and give it a read to I just think that she does an incredible job at articulating thoughts and feelings from the perspective of the narrator I guess of the book and just really making you feel like you're there it was such a wild ride five stars highest rate book from this video for sure and then lastly we have love on the brain this one was not offensive it was kind of fun it was not too bad I think the length was like pretty appropriate for it as well I don't think that the Romantic conflict in this book was that interesting definitely the actual outside story conflict was a bit more interesting in this one than the romance itself it wasn't a tough read I didn't hate going through this again romance not my preferred this wasn't the best romance that I've read not the worst for sure three stars on this one so in conclusion I would say that me and Chandler's tastes are somewhat similar for sure in my opinion Chandler has incredible tastes in books it's just that our tastes don't necessarily line up all of the time and I think that even in the genres where they do line up uh like in fantasy we still prefer different things like we want different things out of the fantasy books that we're reading I think for me I'm still kind of on the fence about her romance recommendations for me personally if it's a fan FY book also kind of like 50/50 but at the end of the day like I'm still probably going to enjoy a fantasy book that she recommends me even if it's not my favorite I don't think it's going to be bad thrillers on the other hand I definitely need some more recommendations because I know that she reads more of them than I do though it's not her you know top most red genre I think that she's probably got a lot to say there well thank you guys so much for joining me on this adventure of my first video I hope you guys enjoyed it if you do you should watch more videos from And subscribe to my wife because she is much better at doing this at reading at giving book recommendations at making the videos uh all of it just I am so proud of her and the channel that she's built here and so proud of you guys and thank you so much for sticking around this far I appreciate it\n"
