15 Winter Home Hacks Everyone Needs to Know!

**Staying Warm and Cozy in Cold Weather**

As the temperatures drop, many of us find ourselves struggling to stay warm and cozy at home. One creative solution is investing in a towel warmer. This might seem like a luxury item, but for those who have one, it's a game-changer. Imagine stepping out of a cold shower and wrapping yourself in a warm, toasty towel - it's a small pleasure that can bring immense joy to your daily routine.

But towel warmers aren't the only solution to stay warm at home. Another effective way is to switch over to a smart thermostat. The Nest system, for example, learns your patterns and adjusts the temperature to maximize efficiency. Not only is it convenient, but it also helps reduce your energy bills by up to 10 per month. By setting it on an automatic schedule, you can lower the temperature when you're not in the house and adjust it back up when you return home.

**Practical Tips for Staying Warm**

One of the most annoying winter problems is that coffee gets cold so fast. To avoid this, consider investing in a mug warmer or switching to insulated coffee mugs. These clever devices keep your coffee nice and warm indefinitely, or use an insulated coffee mug to keep it cozy for several hours.

For those who live in areas with icy sidewalks and roads, there are several practical tips to stay safe and mobile. One effective way is to combine one teaspoon of rubbing alcohol and one teaspoon of dish soap in warm water and dump it onto the ice. This solution melts away quickly and effectively. Another helpful tip is to use a gadget like a windshield blanket that you can place over your windshield, allowing snow and ice to accumulate on its surface. In the morning, simply pull off the blanket, and you'll have a clean windshield.

**DIY Tricks for Winter**

If you're struggling with frosty windows or icy locks, there are simple DIY solutions to melt away the ice. For car locks, try using hand sanitizer - just squeeze a little onto the lock and it will defrost in seconds. This trick also applies to your front porch, where a combination of rubbing alcohol and dish soap can quickly melt away icy patches.

For added traction on icy sidewalks or roads, consider attaching these little shoe attachments to your shoes. They provide extra grip, allowing you to walk safely without slipping and sliding around. And for your windshield wipers, try putting knee-high socks on the blades - in the morning, simply pull them off, and they'll be clear as glass.

**Winter Survival Hacks**

One of my most annoying winter problems is that my coffee gets cold so fast. Two options I've found are to get a mug warmer or switch to insulated coffee mugs. The latter keeps my coffee nice and warm for several hours, making it a convenient solution to this everyday problem.

For those who live in areas with icy sidewalks and roads, there's one clever trick that can help: wearing fleece-lined leggings under your skirt. These ingenious leggings have an insulating interior that keeps you warm even when worn alone. Paired with tights or a longer layer on top, they're the perfect solution for cold winter days.

Finally, if you live in an area prone to icy sidewalks and roads, consider investing in shoe attachments with extra traction. They can be a lifesaver on particularly slippery surfaces, allowing you to walk safely without worrying about falling. With these practical tips and tricks, you'll be well-equipped to tackle the challenges of cold weather and stay warm and cozy at home.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello and welcome back to my channel so it is cold in a lot of the world right now we're in the middle of winter so today i'm sharing with you some winter home hacks and also just cold weather life hacks to keep you nice and warm and cozy it is a freezing blistering cold day here in san diego to the tune of 60 degrees to be fair i did live on the east coast for 10 years so i know a little something about cold weather i've also done my research let me know what city you're in and what the current temperature is right now down in the comments if you are new here make sure to subscribe to my channel before you go and with all of that said let's get started with our first home hack to keep your house nice and warm and reduce your energy expense you can add added insulation to your windows really easily using bubble wrap and this is going to reduce heat loss from your windows by up to 50 percent and what you do is you take a spray bottle with water spray your window and you can just stick your bubble wrap right on top and it adds an extra layer so you're not losing heat through your windows another option that's not going to be quite as effective but it looks nicer is getting this stick on stained glass paneling that you can just stick on the windows not only does it give a really pretty effect but it helps reduce heat loss not by quite as much because this isn't as thick but it does help next up for your windows now that we've insulated them the next thing you want to do is check for any draft through the cracks of your windows a lot of times there's a tiny space where cold air is coming in and they make this tape that you just stick to the bottom of your windows that prevents that draft from coming in freezing up your house you literally just stick it onto the bottom of your window panel now the number one culprit of draft getting in your house is under your doors i walk by my front door and i full on feel a breeze coming through so what you want to do here on your doorways is get a draft stopper you could do a diy version with just a towel and press that against your door but if you want a nicer looking option they sell these door draft stoppers and there's just a little hook you hook it on either side so it stays in place and it opens and closes with the door if you have ceiling fans in your house you want to reverse the direction so that they go clockwise in the winter there's usually a little button you could press that's going to change the direction of the ceiling fan when it's going counter-clockwise it's pushing the cool air down in the winter you want to switch it clockwise and that's going to recirculate the hot air and help push the warm air down where you can feel it and help better heat the room and your house next thing i will say don't make yourself go out in the freezing cold to go get your groceries you don't have to do that anymore it's 20 22. have it delivered i am team delivery it's that cold what you can do is use hand sanitizer just squeeze a little hand sanitizer on the lock and it will defrost it for you this also applies to your car lock an effective way to melt the ice on your front porch if you're trying to leave the house and it's really icy is to combine one teaspoon of rubbing alcohol one teaspoon of dish soap in warm water mix that up and then just dump it on the ice and it will melt away really fast whoa look at this ice storm that came through i can't walk through this this is treacherous that was a close one now you can also use that same solution and dump it onto your windshield if it's covered in ice but my favorite option for this is this little gadget basically like a blanket you put over your windshield and so then the snow ice goes on that and in the morning all you have to do is pull it off and you have a nice clean windshield and for your side mirrors you could just put grocery bags on either side tie them up and for your windshield wipers you can put socks get your nice long knee-high socks put those on the blades of the windshield wiper so then in the morning when you're ready to go just pull them off and those are clear as
