Can you STREAM and GAME on a BUDGET LAPTOP

**Streaming and Gaming Capabilities of a Budget Laptop**

The author of this article has put their budget laptop to the test, streaming popular games like Call of Duty: Warzone at 1920x1080 resolution with 60 FPS. The laptop, which costs around $650 with a slight memory upgrade, was able to deliver smooth gameplay and streaming performance.

**Streaming Settings**

The author's streaming settings were set to 1600x900 resolution, 60 FPS, and the laptop was running at its default settings. However, they did mention that they had turned on Nvidia DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) to improve performance. The author also mentioned that they use a camera with borders around it, alert sources, and other browser sources for their stream setup. This setup allows for a more accurate representation of how one would normally stream, rather than just using game capture or screen capture.

**Performance Test Results**

The author launched Call of Duty: Warzone and tested its performance while streaming at 70 FPS with mediumish settings. They also mentioned that they were getting around 100 FPS in some areas of the map. The author's graphic settings were set to full screen, borderless, and Nvidia highlights were disabled. Other settings included:

* Quality: Normal (medium)

* Particle quality: Low

* Filmic strength: 00 (Nvidia DLSS performance)

* World motion blur: Disabled

* Weapon motion blur: Disabled

* Cash bot shadows: Disabled

**Impressions and Verdict**

The author was impressed with the performance of their laptop while streaming Call of Duty: Warzone. The game ran smoothly at 70-100 FPS, and the laptop's cooling system didn't seem to be a issue. The author also mentioned that they were able to stream for extended periods without any significant issues.

**General Implications**

The author believes that this experience is indicative of what one can expect from most games when it comes to streaming performance on a budget gaming laptop. They mention that Call of Duty: Warzone is one of those games that can be particularly challenging to stream, but with the right setup, one can achieve smooth performance.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwith the ongoing GPU shortage building desktops is harder than ever even buying pre-builts has gotten more expensive than it used to be there has been a shining light this whole time though and that's gaming laptops but wait a second sure they can play games pretty well but how well can they game and stream as a single PC solution let's find out my name is Chris this is Coalition gaming and today I'll be your computer and stream technician in the past couple of years more people than ever that I've known have bought gaming laptops a lot of the time people might think that because of the thermal constraints a laptop has performance won't compare to what a desktop can do while this is somewhat correct it doesn't take away the fact that you can get really great gaming performance either at home or on the go there's also a convenience factor of being able to set up in game anywhere so that's nice but many people out there who bought gaming laptops might also be wondering how well you can game and stream on one of these so let's dive in the laptop I'm going to be talking about today is a budget gaming laptop from 2020 it has an RTX 2060 GPU an i5 10300h quad core 8 thread CPU and 16 GB of RAM in dual Channel it also has a 120 HZ 1080p screen this cost me only $650 before a ram upgrade and I go over more details including Gam gaming benchmarks in a video on this specific laptop right up here and a link down in the description below laptops around the $1,000 Mark and commonly below that price can have anything from a 2060 to a 3060 ti so if you've spent this kind of money on a gaming laptop in recent years odds are you'll fall into one of these configurations maybe even with a six core CPU instead of a quad in the past I've demonstrated streaming with a $250 PC build that had a six core first gen Intel CPU 12 gigs of RAM and rx470 which any of these gaming laptops like mine would easily smash so let's set this laptop up and see how it smashes so here we are at the stream setup with the laptop I have a USB type-c hub connected to it so I can have a mouse keyboard and all the stuff little more out of the way and a little bit in a better position ethernet as well cuz ethernet is generally recommended for streaming or anything bandwidth intensive you can do it on Wi-Fi sure but just more reliable via Ethernet cable have the trusty a media PW 513 webcam going right there that's what you're seeing me on and a spare screen right here so this instead of using a like a a primary screen like a high refresh screen as the primary one for the setup I'm focusing on the laptop in this setup and so I'm using a spare screen and it can be anything for you guys it could be a spare uh TV an old monitor whatever you can just put it as a second screen because that's where OBS is chat other things and in this case it just happened to be a spare Ben Q monitor but like I said it could be anything that you can plug the HDMI cable into so first thing first output uh so on the streaming tab if you're an out put mode Advance um I'm there and I put CBR for rate control I have a 7,000 kilobit per second bit rate key frame interval to two preset to Max quality and profile High that's normal stuff here look ahead is uncheck cycle visual tuning is checked GPU zero which means your primary GPU and Max B frames is two this is using the Nvidia enven new so this is utilizing the upgraded Turing envent chip on all gpus Nvidia GPU Ed from GTX 1650 super and newer and it's really good definitely worth using so if you happen to have a laptop that is uh has Nvidia Graphics doesn't matter if it's older Nvidia Graphics as well the older nank chip can still manage pretty well although I probably wouldn't go beyond 720p60 but Nvidia graphics cards have that advantage of enven for you to offload a lot of that streaming load a lot of that encoding load and uh it's really going to help out in games as you'll see once we get to the game testing portion of this now if you happen to to get a laptop with one of the good Radeon graphics cards hey don't worry about it radon encoder or AMF or vce or whatever OBS calls it can definitely still offload its load onto that man I keep saying load too many times radon encoder does work and uh though I just wouldn't go over 720 p60 and I'd give it as much bit rate as you can give it 6,000 7,000 because it could use the help but you'll have a perfectly goodlooking stream at 720p60 with it so just keep that in mind and uh if you happen to get one of the new fangled laptops that have higher core counts eight cores or more then it really doesn't matter What GPU you have uh you can just use CPU encoding anything like uh I don't know x264 CPU preset of all the way down to fast maybe with some customizations to tweak the quality which I'll leave down in the description below can also be Rel pretty competitive with that especially at 720p60 but 1,600 by 900 good middle ground that's what this is at it's going to be stretch out for the video though at 10 1920 x 1080 so just keep that in mind as well with that said yes like I show you here 1920 x 1080 I like streaming at 1600 by 900 60 FPS and there's my streaming settings so with all that being said let's launch a game and see how this laptop can game and stream Al together so again game that I've noticed that can be kind of a pain to stream even still is Call of Duty war zone or Modern Warfare 2019 um I guess because Vanguard and Cold War both use the same they all use the same engine as war zone then I mean technically this would apply to those games as well so let's launch one of those one more thing I wanted to mention for the stream as you guys can see this camera has borders around it I have uh alert sources I have other browser sources I have what you would Norm what would you what you would call a uh a normal stream setup or more traditional stream setup camera sources alert sources all this stuff and that way this is a more accurate representation of how you would normally stream instead of just being like game capture screen capture and no camera and no nothing else cuz that's not really representative of a proper stream configuration you know what I mean ah road kill uh yeah right now I'm getting around 100 FPS while streaming so I do have like mediumish settings and dlss turned on but you know ooh I wasn't paying attention in the circle all right we're on the ground and we're running around we're in the 70s FPS right now definitely acceptable especially while streaming somebody's here I had the better gun run H miss him you jump oh there's somebody up here juked them here going to drop it on my head right now no yeah baby let's go go Lo win bye-bye UAV ah a he caught me he was by the freaking ran by him in the uh whatever hey top five finish first attempt BR I don't even normally play BR in the big map from my laptop so what was cool about streaming right now uh Call of Duty war zone is that I average anywhere from about 70 to 100 FPS and I'll show you guys my graphic settings here full screen borderless um and Nvidia highlights disabled Nvidia reflex low latency enabled plus boost and we go over to Quality here we're at 1080p everything is at normal which I guess is like mediumish particle quality is on low um and the filmic strength filmic grain 00 Nvidia dlss performance thank you dlss and uh World motion blur weapon motion blur disabled disabled cash bot Shadows disabled as you can see it's all right there on the screen for you guys so um and it still looks pretty good runs great and stream is getting a nice smooth feed and the computer is able to give me 70 to 100 FPS can't complain right $650 laptop with a slight memory upgrade so for demonstration purposes and also time constraints uh Call of Duty war zone is the the main game I wanted to show you all tonight and as you can see it ran great uh for both the stream and the system like it was an enjoyable experience all around which is impressive honestly on a budget gaming laptop and uh for furthermore it's a pretty good indicator of per General performance while streaming because it is definitely one of those games that can just be kind of a pain to stream so you can get away with streaming Call of Duty war zone with very little issue you'll probably have a good time with the majority of other games out there if you ever had any doubts about laptops and their ability to game and stream even sub $1,000 gaming laptops cast those doubts aside as you can see if a laptop was all you were able to get rest assured that you didn't compromise as much as you think you did with the right setup you could be gaming and streaming it up as good as any desktop and the only downside might be laptop fan noise throw some headphones on and you're fine though maybe even some like noise suppression stuff like RTX Voice or something like that can help let's talk more laptop and streaming stuff I stream every Friday at 800m Pacific at twitch.tv/ Coalition gaming crew so feel free to stop by drop a follow and let's chat if you like this video you know what to do hit that subscribe button and that Bell so you don't miss a single upload if you've made it this far you're into streaming stuff and I got more streaming related videos right here like how to control your
