GDC 2014 - Sigils - Battle for Raios

GDC 2014: Sigils Battle for Rios at Mobile Nations

Hey guys, this is Simon Sage from Mobile Nations, and we're at GDC 2014 with Tim. How's it going, Tim? Hey, it's going great! Good, you guys have been working on a great new mobile RPG called Sigils. What can you tell us about it?

Sigils Battle for Rios is an original game for the iPad, and it's a mashup hybrid of RPG and MOBA where players will recruit powerful Champions and play those champions in an epic struggle to save the world of Rios. So, how many characters are we talking here? We have 25 champions in the game, there will be 20 that launch with the initial client, and then we'll have five Champions that will release every couple weeks after launch to sort out the community that this is a service-based game, and we'll be updating the game with new content and new features over time.

Let's check it out right. We've got three characters here, we've got a range damage dealer, caster, and a Healer, so we're all able to fire off different abilities. I've got my fire blast here, and now you're going to see my ultimate here, my rain of Fire coming down. I'll start to stun the enemies, and we see... oh get in that healing ring there. Oh, so Simon heal me. Oh God, oh God. Now, one of the things you'll start to see is like as you take damage, the screen desaturates, and then when I get healed again, if I get healed again... oh, I'm going to die. No damn it! Pressure all right, but you guys can still finish out the combat, and win the day so that we can continue on. It's All About Mary come on; yes, Victory! Oh, it's not over. So, yeah, the spiders are particularly aggressive because they can sort of jump up, and they kind of go after the biggest threat. So, they're gonna go after uh Mary hardcore here or No! Actually, they're prioritizing the Healer. Oh, I got you down there, but again, this is a little bit unfair because I kind of jumped you guys up the chain because I'm a much higher level, but I wanted you guys to see the difference between sort of the level we start you out at in the tutorial, and then where the sort of action of the combat can go.

All right, guys, so that's Sigils Battle for Rios. When can we give this a shot? When is it going to be out? So, we hope to be approved through Apple over the next couple of weeks, then what we'll do is a technical launch which is a beta period where we can get the service up and running, get a community of players interacting with the game. Iron Out The Kinks that inevitably happen with these sort of service-based games, so by the early summer, we hope to be rolling out the game worldwide on the iPad.

Nice are you looking at at other platforms? All right, we know we have the opportunity to do it; it's built on a proprietary cross-platform technology at the developer Spring. But right now, our core focus is to really establish the franchise on iOS tablets. What about pricing? Is this going to be premium? Yeah, it's free-to-play. It's a free-to-play game, and we offer in-app purchases to sort of enhance the gameplay experience. What we mean by that is you can play the game for free as much as you want, but if you want to sort of unlock new Champions, get more gear, make more efficient use of your time, then you can spend a little bit of money and know you're getting more out of your time.

Perfect all right, guys. That's Sigils coming out soon; got many many many more games coming out of GDC 2014 so stick around!
