Getting Started with Framing Your Walls: A Step-by-Step Guide
They going to go in what's going to work the best and then you got to kind of reverse engineer that to know which ones do I need to frame so they're laying down on the floor because I may have to frame some walls up on top of them you know namely the very first wall you want to stand is likely the first or the last wall you're going to frame frame so what I've decided to do is I want to stand this this south facing wall first so with knowing that I know that basically I need it on top of the pile if I've got any walls stacked together so what I decided to do was actually I'm going to frame the the West Wall laying flat first over there on the on the floor I've just got a make sure cuz this is the West Wall over here this is the South Wall I just need to make sure that I've got the wall pulled away from my uh chalk line here so that it's not in the way when we go to stand this very first wall the South Wall okay with that being said I'm going to have my wall this West Wall laying right here on the subfloor it's going to actually hang off a little bit on this side a foot or so just so so I don't interfere with that line over there and that and standing that wall so I'll have that wall over here on the far side of the floor I'm going to do the same thing with the East wall I'm going to frame it laying there and then the north north wall I think I'm going to frame in two pieces and I'm going to frame it right up down the center laying this way and it'll be the very last walls and pieces that I stand up so if I do it that way I can then frame my South Wall right on top of the ends this end of all these other ones and uh when it comes time to stand it it's just a matter of everybody getting a hold of it which you'll see in that video and uh Ro you know basically lifting it up rotating it sliding it off of the walls it's sitting on so it sits down on the subfloor get lined up with the line and uh get it fastened in place but that's a whole other video so I'm not going to go too much into detail but I just want you to think about how you're going to stand these up now if you've got the luxury of having you know few guys around all the time and uh you know maybe you you can frame each wall and stand it up as you're as you're going you know frame that wall stand it up frame this wall stand it up you know if you've got that luxury then that's all great I'm doing most of this by myself um I think my brother's going to come and give me a hand to do some of the framing so that that'll speed things up but it's going to take us most of the week just to get the walls framed and sheeted and and ready to stand and that's that's if the weather holds out we've had some we've had some crappy weather so we're just trying to get all this done in between rainstorms we had another one last night and uh just got everything muddy and soupy again so so ideal situation is I'm hoping to get these walls framed this week if the weather holds that'll be easy and uh then on Saturday or this coming weekend I'm going to get some guys together hopefully five or six guys and we'll actually stand all the walls up okay
Now that we've got our perimeter marked out for our wall lines or exterior wall lines we've got a plan made for where we're going to situate these walls when they're framed and laying down on the floor I'm basically ready to get some plates cut to length and uh laid out with all the the right uh positions for all the studs and windows and all that kind of stuff where where there is some and uh I think we've covered covered plate layout in in one video for sure but I think I'll just add a little bit into the end of this one just to give you the right idea um and it it pertains more to this project than its own so so at this point uh that's really all I wanted to show you on this video just gave you a good idea of how to get started out few extra things to think about as far as where you're going to frame your walls so they're not in your way and you're not hopefully having to move them too many times okay that's it for this video thumbs up subscribe go check out the next one
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enlock on my face come on hi it's Shannon here back at the cabin build we're out at the lake and uh We've finally got the the floor all down subfloor down and we're ready to start framing some walls so before we can actually start any real framing we've got a few things to do to get prepped and ready one of those is measuring and marking out interior uh lines to line the outside walls up with and another thing is uh deciding on how we're going to do the framing because we're going to frame the walls laying flat on the ground frame them sheet them and then we'll get some people together and come and stand the walls up in a in a morning sort of thing so so you need to have a bit of a plan as far as how how and where I can frame these walls so that when everybody gets here we're not having to move a whole bunch of walls around and juggle stuff around it's just nice to you know do as little movement of these heavy pieces as possible besides just lifting and standing them up come back to me okay so Demarco the the perimeter lines uh it's pretty simple uh in our case we're using 2x6 Lumber and uh so my walls are going to be 5 1/2 in in measured from the outside perimeter of the flooring of the subfloor so I can simply make those measurements but I also want to double check that when I do that the walls are still working out to be the right length that I want them to be in our case the cabin's uh 24 ft this way by 30 ft this way so just be mindful of that to be sure that you're you know in case your floor isn't quite the right dimension on the outside that you're still ending up with the right sized uh length walls here you can see I've marked out the lines and I'm just just snapping them with a chalk line that way we get a nice straight line and there's really nothing too important to see about that if you don't know how to use a chalk line I actually have a video for that so look for that uh so then the next thing is um we had all the material delivered so this isn't quite everything but we tried to have material brought as close as we can to where we need it so we've got material here for the framing uh wall plates down below we've got a few sheets of OSB uh sheathing that we're going to use on the outside uh I actually haven't brought over my head or material uh because the first wall I'm going to frame won't have any window windows or doors in it or anything so so that brings me to the next point you got to be thinking in your mind okay when we go to stand these walls up what order are they going to go in what's going to work the best and then you got to kind of reverse engineer that to know which ones do I need to frame so they're laying down on the on the floor because I may have to frame some walls up on top of them you know namely the very first wall you want to stand is likely the first or the last wall you're going to frame frame so what I've decided to do is I want to stand this this south facing wall first so with knowing that I know that basically I need it on top of the pile if I've got any walls stacked together so what I decided to do was actually I'm going to frame the the West Wall laying flat first over there on the on the floor I've just got a make sure cuz this is the West Wall over here this is the South Wall I just need to make sure that I've got the wall pulled away from my uh chalk line here so that it's not in the way when we go to stand this very first wall the South Wall okay with that being said I'm going to have my wall this West Wall laying right here on the subfloor it's going to actually hang off a little bit on this side a foot or so just so so I don't interfere with that line over there and that and standing that wall so I'll have that wall over here on the far side of the floor I'm going to do the same thing with the East wall I'm going to frame it laying there and then the north north wall I think I'm going to frame in two pieces and I'm going to frame it right up down the center laying this way and it'll be the very last walls and pieces that I stand up so if I do it that way I can then frame my South Wall right on top of the ends this end of all these other ones and uh when it comes time to stand it it's just a matter of everybody getting a hold of it which you'll see in that video and uh Ro you know basically lifting it up rotating it sliding it off of the walls it's sitting on so it sits down on the subfloor get lined up with the line and uh get it fastened in place but that's a whole other video so I'm not going to go too much into detail but I just want you to think about how you're going to stand these up now if you've got the luxury of having you know few guys around all the time and uh you know maybe you you can frame each wall and stand it up as you're as you're going you know frame that wall stand it up frame this wall stand it up you know if you've got that luxury then that's all great I'm doing most of this by myself um I think my brother's going to come and give me a hand to do some of the framing so that that'll speed things up but it's going to take us most of the week just to get the walls framed and sheeted and and ready to stand and that's that's if the weather holds out we've had some we've had some crappy weather so we're just trying to get all this done in between rainstorms we had another one last night and uh just got everything muddy and soupy again so so ideal situation is I'm hoping to get these walls framed this week if the weather holds that'll be easy and uh then on Saturday or this coming weekend I'm going to get some guys together hopefully five or six guys and we'll actually stand all the walls up okay so now that we've got to this point we've got our our perimeter marked out for our wall lines or exterior wall lines uh we've got a plan made for where we're going to uh situate these walls when they're framed and laying down on the floor I'm basically ready to get some plates uh cut to length and uh laid out with all the the right uh positions for all the studs and windows and all that kind of stuff where where there is some and uh I think we've covered covered plate layout in in one video for sure but I think I'll just add a little bit into the end of this one just to give you the right idea um and it it pertains more to this project than its own so so at this point uh that's really all I wanted to show you on this video just gave you a good idea of how to get started out few extra things to think about as far as where you're going to frame your walls so they're not in your way and you're not hopefully having to move them too many times okay that's it for this video thumbs up subscribe go check out the next one so like I said the first first thing that I did is I went around come on come back me Jesus these freaking papers walk on my face come onlock on my face come on hi it's Shannon here back at the cabin build we're out at
