bigger while using this bigger battery life bigger screen bigger speakers bigger trackpad all of that so let's start by talking about the power this is the M3 Max version of the 16-in MacBook Pro 48 gigs of memory I was running 14.1 .1 Mac OS zoma when I tested everything this is also the 1 tbte version and that might sound like a lot but actually I use that up pretty quickly I'll talk about that in a second and if you're curious what the resolution of this xdr retina display is it's 3456 X 2234 so if you're curious about gaming and what resolution you can run things at that's going to come into play now relevant to this discussion on cinebench I just want to make it known that I did crank this up to high power on battery and on power adapter for the energy mode so I wanted to make sure I was going to get the full amount of available resources and power and really running cinebench under high power settings was the only time I ever heard the fans ever while testing this it was pretty crazy to witness this machine rank first in GPU in multi-core and single core CPU scores and feel free to pause if you want to take in all the details but needless to say this is the most capable Mac machine I've ever had my hands on now I'm a tech YouTuber that means by trade I do some video editing and I'm going to be honest with you if you're hoping to see a 20-minute 4K timeline with 50 compound clips and animations and keying and math and a dozen audio layers and some 3D stuff thrown in this is not going to be the video for you because that is not my workflow and that's not how I use this machine but I am interested in a machine that I can buy now and that's going to last me a long time into the future okay so here's some apple log footage that I shot on the iPhone 15 Pro you can see I've applied a custom L I've done some color correction messed around the color wheels and I also stabilized it I slowed it down 25% some Optical flow just to make things really nice and smooth so in terms of how it feels to be using this yeah it thinks when I apply some effects it's not instantly done with every effect that I apply now somebody out there in Hollywood is going to push this differently than I will but I do frequently shoot with five or six multi-cam angles with some edits in there and this handles that like a champ in terms of exporting files I was a little surprised that my 14-in M1 Max exported a 20-minute clip with several effects applied it was about a 10 gig file in 6 minutes and 41 seconds and I do want to point out the 14in has more memory 64 gigs instead of 48 but the new M3 Max here only bested that export by a few seconds 6 minutes and 36 versus 641 so in regard to that particular export nominally faster but in regard to how it felt to actually use to apply several filters and do so quickly in succession and then let it think through and crunch that actually did feel and go faster here now I mentioned that this was a 1 tab setup is that enough turns out if I'm shooting Apple log footage that just chews up my storage so fast and I ran out of storage really quickly I mean there's a reason why on iPhone 15s if you're shooting PR res log you're going to have to record to an external storage device it just eats storage now on the gaming side of things I've been testing out a game called lies of p and this is a respectable game in terms of Graphics it was almost inconceivable a few years ago for someone to think that the same title could be released on PlayStation and Xbox and Mac OS all at the same time like happened here I want to continue the game where I started just so you can see how fast it takes to load okay it's loading right now all the way up to 100 that quickly so very quick to load up and as I get into the game you can see the textures are really great the lighting is great all the shading now in terms of testing this out here's the settings that I used when I was monitoring the testing monitoring the frame rate but as you can see the gameplay is very detailed very smooth at these settings I'd say quite impressive and in particular this machine I think represents a significant step forward for Mac gaming now I didn't max out the settings there right I could push the resolution I could push the frames I could push the quality well here's what that looks like nice and smooth look at the shading look at the detail this is pretty awesome no lag right look at the reflection in the glass there extra details the shading is amazing I mean with the full level of detail I can even see the rain dripping in from the broken glass in the ceiling which is pretty amazing so if you're going to play this on the Mac on this particular Mac you can turn this up and not feel like you're missing out on any of the details look at the hair versus maybe playing on a different console or even the PC now the fans are spinning up as I have this running right now on battery at high performance settings that's to be expected I guess when you're pushing this many pixels and details with all this shading going on but wow it's quite a gaming experience I'm going to be honest so I guess that's two times that I heard the fans spin up when I was running cin bench number one and then number two when I cranked the game settings even higher than what I actually tested at but during my normal usage and normal work I never heard the fans so I think that's important the cooling in here is really topnotch in fact as with all larger laptops you're going to have more space to fit in a better cooling system so the cooling here is going to be better more efficient than the 14inch this is the most Pro Mac that you can get and pairing this with the iPad Pro and the iPhone Pro it's it's just such a rich ecosystem experience it just feels like the three of those devices add up to Peak potential for a person in terms of what you can produce and output and that's a good feeling that's a powerful feeling now whether you can make the most of your time with those that's another thing and you can check out my learning to be productive course if you want to be even more powerful within your Apple fingerprints during the unboxing I was trying to get some fingerprints on and I was amazed that I wasn't seeing any after a week's worth of usage and carrying this around with me around the house and out to the coffee shop putting it in my bag taking it out of the bag I can say yeah I mean I do notice that it's been handled now at this point and I'm not talking about the keyboard those always start to show finger oils now technically this is a laptop but I would call it more of a desktop laptop you can park it on the desk and it can do and handle anything that you basically would need a desktop to do or handle now prior to this I've been testing a Mac Studio at the desktop that's sort of been my desktop setup and I have to say I like using this at the desk better so this is much more powerful than the Mac Studio that I've been using number one so there's that the performance but I just mean the experience of having this giant screen set up in front of my studio display and using the actual trackpad here and the actual keyboard and not having to use an external keyboard and trackpad or Mouse I think it's actually my favorite way of using using a Mac at the desk it wouldn't feel that way with the 14in but this huge screen here is actually so much more usable and practical for somebody like me for multitasking being able to work on something on such a bright screen I love this setup the keyboard is the keyboard at this point it's really great I like the way it types there's really not a lot to say about it other than it really does show that you've used it after a while but what really does feel like a huge change here is the trackpad it's enormous much bigger than the 14in as I showed in the unboxing and I find that a bigger trackpad actually is one of those small luxuries that really does make a nice overall usage difference and what I mean is there are times when a smaller trackpad you'll start to drag something and you have to like do a placeholder finger and like keep dragging over and it gets a little bit awkward but here it's so big I can grab something and drag it where I need to go easily without having to mess with the settings but as much as I love using this on the desk I really love taking it with me to go somewhere now whether that that is to a chair or the couch and using it as a laptop I think this is the best laptop in Apple's lineup for the reason that it's easy to balance on your legs even though it is heavier it's bigger it's significant if you're going to put this in your bag and take it somewhere to a meeting or if you're traveling with it and you want to bring it with on the plane or you're just head to the coffee shop I mean it's heavy that said everything's a trade-off with that weight you get the bigger screen you get the bigger battery life you get the bigger speakers the bigger trackpad and I think I would choose this the 16in over the 14 in if it was me and Money Was No Object because I really sound is so rich now I'm exaggerating a little bit with the two homepod thing but it's amazingly loud big room filling sound and that does come in useful like I said when you're presenting somebody to somebody in person this screen is amazing it is so bright that there were times when I actually turned it down that's weird for me because usually I'm cranking things all the way up so I had the
