DIY LINEN BOOK COVERS - - Quick, Easy, & Affordable!

Creating a Cozy Reading Nook with Covered Books

We're a family that absolutely loves books. Maybe your family is too. We want books in every single room, but in this space, it's super monochromatic. So, I really wanted to bring books into this space, but not all of those books go with my color scheme. What I've done is taken some of the books and covered them with linen.

To make this project easier, you'll need a few basic supplies: iron, ironing board, spray adhesive, scissors, linen, a drop cloth or plastic to lay down, and your favorite books. Now, I generally try to avoid using the iron, but for this one, you're definitely going to need it and your ironing board. You also need spray adhesive, scissors, linen, and a drop cloth or maybe just some plastic to lay down.

First, let's talk about measuring the book. When we were in school, we used to cover our books in paper bags. Now, all we're going to do is measure it, lay it out flat, and measure again. First, we'll make a flap on the top and bottom, then enough that it can wrap around and fit this way. This may seem like an old-fashioned process, but trust me, it works beautifully.

Once you have your measurements, cut out two pieces of linen to match. Now, lay out one of the pieces of linen flat next to your book. Make sure it's not wrinkled or bunched up, as that will affect how well it covers the book. Next, take one of your books and place it on top of the linen piece.

Next, you'll need to secure the linen in place using spray adhesive. You want to make sure this is applied evenly so the linen doesn't bubble up. Make sure you spray the front and binding as well as the back. When the adhesive is set, take your book off the linen piece and press it firmly onto the cover of the book.

Now that we have our first book covered in linen, let's talk about ironing the flap. When you iron, make sure to iron these flaps all down because they create a really nice crease and will keep the book in place. I like to iron them until they're nice and stiff so that when you put the book on the shelf, it won't come off.

As you can see from this example, not ironing your fabric results in a bunched up and wrinkled mess. You want to make sure all of those wrinkles are out because if they are, your books will look sloppy on the shelf. So be sure to take the time to iron that linen until it's smooth and flat.

Now that we have our book covered in linen, let's talk about adding a little extra security using more spray adhesive underneath the cover. This ensures that the book is stuck firmly onto the cover and won't come off over time. Make sure you press hard enough so that the liner stays in place.

With all of these steps complete, your books should be looking lovely covered in linen. I've got a stack of gorgeous linen covered books now, ready to add to my shelf. In fact, I'm thinking of making a trip downstairs to put them on the shelf right away. But that's not all - we're also going to need a second studio room when you've got four floors and want to catch up on our content. This is because as much as we love books, sometimes we don't have enough space to write about them all in one place. So we'll be moving on to new studios soon so that we can continue to bring you the best book-related content possible.

So if you're interested in learning more about covered books and how to create your own, be sure to watch our next video where we go through every step of the process from start to finish. And don't forget to subscribe to our channel so you never miss a new video again.

linen um a drop cloth or maybe just some plastic to lay down then of course your books that you want to cover we're going old school here what we're going to do is we're going to lay out the fabric we're going to measure it to fit the book and just like you would when we were in school and we covered our books in paper bags I don't know maybe some of you aren't that old but us old people this is how we used to do it in the old days so you can cover them with paper you can cover them with fabric but now all we're going to do is we're going to measure it lay it out flat and measure and um first we'll make a flap on the top and the bottom bottom and then enough that it can wrap around and fit this way and then I'll show you how we're going to secure it I want to show you what happens when you don't iron your fabric because I really want you to see that this is a really important step the book here this isn't ironed and we haven't used a spray adhesive those are two really important steps to making your books really look good see how it's just kind of wobbly and it's falling all over the place this isn't going to work not only that but it's wrinkled so be sure you iron your Fabric and and it will keep them in place I'm going to flip it over because this is the part that we're going to see and I want to make sure that it's really nice and neat and then we just iron it really really good make it nice and stiff so I'm laying down a drop cloth because we're going to be using a spray adhesive and this protects the surface where you'll be spray we're going to give the spray mount a really good shape before we get started then we'll start with the front of the book keep your linen nearby because you're going to need that in just a minute make sure you spray the front and the binding as well that needs just a minute to get a little bit tacky and then once it's set we're going to set it into the linen as I add it on I like to add a little bit of extra security by adding spray adhesive underneath here just so it will stay in place a little bit better it's super important that you really press hard and make sure that that linen is stuck well to the book and to the adhesive so really press on that binding and make sure it's really stuck down then we're going to flip it over and we're going to do the back side okay so now I finished this book and I'm ready to move on to my other ones now I've got a stack of gorgeous linen covered books that I'm ready to add to my shelf and I guess for me that means I got to go all the way back downstairs I'll be stopping halfway though my fingers are bit sticky but make sure to visit us on House of valentina. comom we'll have all the details there and of course we'll have more videos to share soon by who need the gym
