**Why Scotty Won't Cover Honda Recalls**
I was driving to Rhode Island from Tennessee and visiting my 94-year-old mother in Buffalo, now I'm here and I'm talking about it. The reason I'm not covering this Honda recall is because I was told that both Toyota and Honda don't make their own fuel pumps; they get them from Magnificent. That's the problem - they all bought them from the same company that had problems when they built them, so yes, Honda had to recall 628,000 vehicles because of the same fuel pumps. The Toyota problem is a bit different, though. If you want to see if your car's covered, just go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website and put in your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN number). It'll tell you whether your car's covered.
This is one of the problems with Japanese cars; they were never like Ford Motor Company, where "hey, I build everything." They didn't build everything themselves; they buy from many subcontractors. So both Toyota and Honda are buying fuel pumps from the same company - Toyota and Honda will make their own air conditioners, use Nippon Denso, or use various companies over the years. If there's a problem with one of these manufacturers, it'll affect the whole line because they're not making their fuel pumps themselves; they're not making their brake pads or alternators; they're buying them from other companies. So if there's one problem, it's going to pass through all of those companies.
**Low Brake Pedal on a 2004 Lincoln Town Car**
Drumhouse contacted me and said he has a low brake pedal on his 2004 Lincoln Town Car. His brakes seem fine, but they go lower. My mechanic says it's okay, but Drumhouse is worried because cars age, and you get more slack over time. You want to take off the wheels, make sure there are no leaks, and ensure the brakes are all tight and not loose. In the olden days, back drum brakes would wear and sometimes wouldn't adjust right; they'd need to be readjusted.
If your mechanic does a good job and says there's no leak, probably you can break master stones a little bit low if you're worried. However, the only things that really make them go lower are massive cylinders wearing out. But even then, it'll stop okay. It might sound bad, but if it feels good to you, you might just live with it as long as your car is still running well.
**Enhancing Performance and Horsepower in a 2011 Chevy Tahoe**
Jeff contacted me through a friend who's working on a security decal project in the Middle East. He wants to enhance the performance and horsepower in his 2011 Chevy Tahoe with an automatic transmission. The truck is armor-plated, and he didn't want to remove enough armor plating because "those things are dogs." If anyone out there knows what they're doing, the best thing is to put a supercharger on that.
It's harder to turbocharge an add-on than it is to bolt on a supercharger. If Jeff wants to try this, he'll need to spend the money and supercharge his truck. This will give him more horsepower, but the transmission might struggle with the extra power. The engine itself is okay, but the automatic transmission is weak, and straining it more won't help. Still, if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos, remember to ring that bell.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enrev up your engines toyota sells millions of toyota tacomas in the united states they fire out sell the ford rangers and why because they last so long you might remember this one from years ago i bought it picked some of it up and then sent it to my son and he's been driving it for years the things run forever check it out it still looks good sure it's dirty but the bed still works the trunk still comes down and goes back up and latches unlike gm products and check it out look at that bumper if you remember years ago i bought one of these chinese-made bumpers look at it it still looks fantastic and the still in good shape pretty much how i sold it to him a lot dirtier still has a cigarette burn hole that the previous owner put in it's still a solid truck you can hear that door let's see if it starts up he doesn't use it much anymore typical toyota starts right up now granted this is just a baby it's only got 152 000 miles on it and listen to this thing it still runs good car it's all corroded under here there's a reason for that i got the car from an auction turns out it came from massachusetts and on the atlantic ocean so you can see all the superficial corrosion on the aluminum parts doesn't mean anything it still runs and as you can see inside it's got a five speed transmission these things are bulletproof now yes it's not a race truck relatively slow not particularly good gas mileage for a little truck mind you it gets 25 miles a gallon on the highway when you're in fifth gear if you're going 60 miles an hour there's nothing wrong with that in a little betty pickup truck and i like them because that's what they are a little bitty pickup truck this is 98 you look at the new ones they're getting gigantic now they're not little pickup trucks anymore a lot of people like a little pickup truck they don't want a big giant one that bed's big enough to haul stuff you can fit quite a bunch of things in here hey there's plenty of room everything on it still works locks tight baby's got the 2.4 liter 2rz fe engine that are bulletproof this is not like the 2.4 liter like they had in some of the camrys some of the matrixes that had bad piston rings and burnt oil this baby still doesn't burn oil not really for a toyota this only has 150 something thousand miles so the engine's still breaking in and if you remember this particular truck yes they had problems with the frame riding and i welded a box frame around and people said what a sloppy job scotty that won't last well that was many moons ago and it's still holding up yeah i'm curious myself that was years ago has it cracked off no there it is is that solid steel yes it's solid steel is the weld still holding yes it isn't cracked or broken about even the primer that i painted this stuff with it's still on there pretty good so i'll tell you naysayers just said oh scotty's welds how sloppy it's never gonna hold up on you it's holding up fine if i did it again using that quarter inch plate steel let me tell you that stuff can last forever if you weld it on tight enough thank you for spinning no backup camera on this baby and away we go still shifts like a dream doesn't ride all that bad got a reasonable amount of pickup still still a nice driving truck like i said it's no race truck it gets 25 miles a gallon on the highway what more can you ask for for truck that i got from was nothing and i gave it to my son years ago check it out the tour signals still work still has a pretty smooth ride you know i wouldn't think twice about driving this thing to california they're just so solid built even the brakes still work perfectly fine and listen they don't even squeak as old as they are check it out if you want you can turn the passenger airbag on or you can turn it off if you have small people in there and you're worried it still works no sure this is an old truck but it doesn't run or ride like an old truck and it is new technology because look under the hood check it out it still has distributor-less ignition there's no distributor it's got electronic fuel injection in it it's got fuel injectors on it it's not a carbureted one or you got to worry about rebuilding an old carburetor you can get parts for it anywhere alternator goes out i could drive three miles down a street to an o'reilly's they got an alternator in stock that fits this thing for about a hundred bucks it's not expensive to fix these things and with the working room they're simple and fun barcloads just pop right out air filters right here everything is simple to get to brake master cylinder right in the open fuse box right here everything is simple and easy to get to not that you have to do much with these because they don't break down much but brakes whatever you can get parts form it's no problem you get them dirt cheap too like i said i bought this beautiful chrome bumper from china years ago it was about a hundred dollars still in excellent shape doesn't cost much to fix these things up but as i mentioned this thing had lived on the ocean in massachusetts frame got rotten a lot of these can get rotten frames especially the really old ones like this 98 if you crawl under one and you see the frame is all rotten either don't buy it or don't pay much because you can box the frame in if you want you could weld steel plate all around if you want it's kind of a pain in the butt but there's plenty of them out there that didn't rot if they're in an area where things don't rot you have to worry about it i mean if you're where it snows and you salt down the road sure the trucks that i saw in texas none of the trucks from texas had rotted if they'd been in texas their whole life unless they went to galveston on the beach and drove into salt water all the time or lived across the street from the ocean where the salt spray got on it and rotted the frames other parts of the country texas new mexico california arizona if you find a 98 you're probably fine the frame doesn't have any rust on it at all you want to do some light duty work they're perfect for that if you're going camping they're virtually indestructible as long as the frames aren't rotten now as usual i'm always giving away free car advice to everybody here in the world well today i'm also giving away a free tool nice electric impact wrench they're very handy for taking tires and hard to get apart things on your car hey you can even use on your sink if you got a real problem you have a chance to win place a clean non-offensive comment on the youtube comments below and a winner will be chosen randomly by computer to get a very nice electric impact wrench so you can take your car apart instead of paying somebody 140 an hour to do the same thing and here's some bonus questions and answers drum j says why is scotty not covering this honda recalls over 628 000 vehicles for fuel pump issue well the reason i'm not covering is because i was driving to rhode island from tennessee and visiting my 94 year old mother in buffalo now i'm here and i'm talking about it realize that both toyota and honda don't make their own fuel pumps they get them from magnificent that's the problem they all bought them from the same company that had problems when they built them so yes honda had to recall 628 000 vehicles because of the same fuel pumps the toyota problem was you want to see if your car's covered you know just go to the national highway traffic safety association.org website put in your vin number it'll tell you whether your car's covering up see this is one problem with the japanese cars is japanese cars they were never like ford motor company where hey i build everything no they didn't build everything they buy from many subcontractors so both toyota and honda they're buying fuel pumps from the same company toyota and honda they'll make their own air conditioners they use nippon denso they use various companies over the years so if there's a problem a lot of the same manufacturer will have the same problem because they're not making their fuel pumps they're not making their brake pads they're not making our alternators they're buying it from other companies so if there's one problem it's going to pass the whole way through take four wheel drive vehicles here in the united states the transfer cases that allow them to transfer the one two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive they're all made in the east coast the united states and when there was a problem in that factory for toyota all kinds of people couldn't build four-wheel drive vehicles of certain sorts because they all buy from the same place so everything is in her mesh these days drumhouse says i have low brake pedal on a 2004 lincoln town car my brakes seem fine but they go lower my mechanic says it's okay but i'm worried as cars aged it's an old car you get more slack of course you want to take off all the wheels you want to make sure there's no leaks you want to make sure the brakes are all tight and they're not loose in the olden days the back drum brakes would wear and sometimes they wouldn't adjust right you had to readjust them but normally if your mechanic did a good job and said no there's no leak probably you break master stones a little bit low if you're worried you might just replace the brake master zone because the only things that really make them go lower is the massive cylinders wearing out but they stop okay that'll do it or if your brake booster is getting a little bit weak it might go a little bit lower but we can't just kind of tell you the truth since it's what a 17 year old car soon to be 18 years old you might live with it as long as it feels good now here's what you want to worry about let's say they get low and you come to a stop sign but then they go all the way to the floor and the car starts moving then you have a problem you want to fix it but i kind of agree with him that if it goes lower but it still stops perfectly fine you might just live with a car that's that hole jeff says hey scotty my buddy's working on a security decal in the middle east wondering what he could do to enhance the performance and horsepower in a 2011 chevy tahoe with automatic transmission it's armor plated too he didn't want to take the armor plate enough because he wants security those things are dogs to begin with you put armor plate in it they're even bigger dogs i mean if anybody out there knows what he's doing the best thing is just put a supercharger on that bolts on and it will give you some more horsepower anything else you could turbo charge it but it's harder to turbo charge add-on than a supercharger supercharged you can just bolt off that's what i do if he doesn't mind spending the money he's in the middle east you get horrible gas mileage but who cares there's plenty of gas there right probably the main reason we have people there because all the oils if there wasn't oil there i'm sure it wouldn't be there you know so yeah if he wants to try try supercharging it that'd be the most bang for the buck and then hope that the transmission can take the extra power because that's the weak point of that vehicle is the automatic transmission engine's okay but the tranny's a little bit weak and you'd be straining it a little bit more but you already are with armor plating anyways so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that bell\n"
