Why Some F1 Cars Are Better in The Rain

F1 Technical Director Pat Simmons Thinks New Aerodynamic Changes Will Reduce Spray, But So Far He's Completely Wrong.

Pat Simmons, the F1 technical director, thinks that the new aerodynamic changes coming for 2022 will help reduce spray. Unfortunately, so far it looks like he's completely wrong about that. The changes are intended to clean up dirty air, which is a major contributor to the problem of spray on the track.

The reason why the new cars create more spray than before has to do with how they tackle the dirty air problem. They've reduced the aerodynamic effect on surface parts and put more emphasis on negative pressure underneath the car. This means that they're increasing the power of the vacuum that sucks water off the track, which in turn creates a ton of dirty air.

The 2022 solution is to employ a beam wing, a smaller rear wing that's mounted just above the diffuser where the air exits the underside of the floor. Its purpose is to project the turbulent air upwards, above any cars that happen to be following it. While this will clean up the dirty air, it might actually make the spray problem worse, creating a bigger, taller cloud of mist than the current cars.

F1 drivers have been discussing wet racing, describing it as unforgiving, unpredictable, and requiring them to be on the edge. They also say that it can be a lot of fun, with more sliding and sideways drifting. Watching wet racing is definitely exciting, especially when it puts drivers to the test and gives opportunities to those who may not have the best car.

The 2022 season is going to be sick, according to one fan. The fan thinks that the new changes will make F1 even more exciting to watch and drive. They're excited to see how the drivers will handle the wet conditions and how it will affect the racing.

If you want to see more F1 content as the season comes about, leave a comment below. Maybe they should do some sort of podcast about F1? Maybe someone's already doing that, by the name of Nolan. Maybe he'll have them on as a guest. Maybe they should do more F1 shows. Maybe they should even make it to the track and see what it's like.

In other news, Donut Media has launched their new tool shirt. It's made out of 100% cotton, making it the perfect shirt to wear while working on your car or giving to that one friend who always forgets the name of a tool. The house is probably possibly my favorite show they've ever made. First off, I love the color purple and it looks sick against this gray. It's like a cheat sheet if you're in automotive school.

Have the person sitting in front of you wear their shirt, and you'll get everything right on the test. Donut Media has got you covered with their new tool shirt. Trust me, best shirt ever.
