Good Day to Everyone: An Experiment with Spray Painting a Desk
Today's video is going to be pretty interesting as I attempt to spray paint my new desk, which I've named the Tribe 55. As I enter the workshop area, you can see my brand new desk right in front of me. It's a great piece of furniture, but there's one problem - only the 47-inch version of this desk comes with the option of including white legs and hardware. The 55-inch version, on the other hand, only comes in black. I'm not sure why this is the case, but it means more work for me.
I enjoy projects like this because they allow me to be creative and take on a new challenge. So, instead of just leaving it as is, I've decided to take my desk apart and spray paint all the pieces white. This way, I can give it a fresh new look without having to buy an entirely new desk. The first step in this process is to make some more room in the workshop by removing the carpet that's currently covering it. I'll put out the back of my deck instead, which should give me enough space to work on.
As I begin to disassemble my desk, I realize that it's not as heavy as I thought it would be. However, finding a flat surface to lay it on is proving to be more difficult than expected. The desk doesn't have a level surface, so I need to find an alternative way to support it. Luckily, I have a piece of foam that can serve as a makeshift workbench.
Using my new workbench, I'm able to take the pieces off the desk one by one. This is where having this new workbench really comes in handy - it allows me to organize my tools and materials more efficiently. As I start to spray paint the legs, I realize that using spray paint is completely new to me. It's not something I'm used to working with inside computers or upgrading technology.
The first challenge I face is getting a good coat of paint on the surface without creating any messes. The breeze outside makes it difficult to hold onto the can, and I end up touching one of the legs by mistake. Luckily, this isn't a big deal since I'll be hiding the messy side inside the desk.
As I continue to work on my desk, I realize that patience is definitely required for this project. It's not something that you can rush through, and it takes time to get the results you want. The worst part of this process is waiting for everything to dry before moving on to the next step. However, the end result will be worth it - a brand new desk with a fresh white coat of paint.
The current state of my desk looks great so far, and I'm excited to see how it turns out in the end. The white hardware does look better than the black, at least when it comes to the desk legs. Now, all that's left to do is wait for everything to dry completely before putting everything back together.
As I take a break from editing this video, I realize that I'll need to pick up where I left off in a few hours' time. For now, I'll just grab my water and mug, and continue working on the rest of the project when I return. Who knows? Maybe I'll even manage to finish it by tonight.
In conclusion, this video has been an experiment with spray painting a desk. It's not something I've ever done before, but I'm excited to see how it turns out in the end. With patience and persistence, I'm confident that I can create a beautiful piece of furniture that will make my workspace stand out. Thanks for watching, and I'll catch you all in the next video!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: engood day everyone today's video should be pretty interesting let me get out of the direct sunlight it's intense um so today I'm going to attempt to spray paint key word attempt allow me to explain all right so going into the workshop area you will see my brand new desk the tribe signs 55 in right here very nice but there's one problem for some reason only the 47in version of this desk has the option of including white legs white Hardware all that stuff so in other words the 55 in version only comes in Black why I'm not sure it means more work for me but you know what that's fine I'm not the lazy type I enjoy projects so I'm going to to take this apart take the black pieces off spray paint all these pieces spray paint the other pieces out there they're out back right now the black legs this is staying as is obviously I'm not going to touch this hence why I got to take all this apart so the first thing I got to do is make some more room in here that's the carpet we'll be putting out back of my deck and hopefully a couple weeks or so actually realistically speaking probably like a month from now I don't know we'll see so let me lay this desk down on this very convenient piece of Styrofoam that way it doesn't get scratched and it's actually really not a heavy desk but I got to say it feels quite solid so let's lay this down very carefully actually you know what it's not even a flat surface so let's not do that I don't want to take the chance of bowing it so instead let me push the piece of phone over here put it against this side of the workshop then I can take the pieces off you know one by one and this is where having this new workbench really comes in handy got to find a good size screwdriver oh here they are up here let me see yep that'll do bikers I know I know you're thinking David why aren't you using a power drill I will eventually I'm just getting myself warmed up guys the only thing that sucks about this process is I'm going to have to do it all over again because yes I do have a second version of this same exact desk arriving tomorrow but then again that's a second desk so it's not exactly something I need you know done right away but you guys know me I'm going to try to get it done ASAP if anything it'll probably be a weekend project for the weekend of loog to vlog this is a is a good start it's definitely a little tricky because the paint wants to drip naturally with the inside Parts but you know what I'm not a perfectionist I'm a near perfectionist granted but this is the piece that goes under the desk so it's not really going to be seen all that much but so far I think it's looking pretty good there's a speck over there I got to get that might even be a bug and then the legs all doing a bit actually I think I'm going to try to find a piece of cardboard to sit them one because I don't want to stand here literally and watch paint dry that would not be fun it's actually drying pretty quickly though it's very sticky too it's sloppy but that'll do and I realized earlier the exposure was a little high outside so let's bump that down a bit that should be a little better you parents have got to be involved that's what this means I love Dave R moms and dads step up he's so brutally honest when it comes to money I just respect the dude so much and I just found out about him a couple weeks ago I'm obsessed everything is drying then eventually I have to turn everything over and do the last side and then from there I'll decide whether I need a second coat because I will say this is actually going on pretty heavy so we'll see for now I have the convenience of my back toour being right here which is awesome and I am going to make coffee because it's nice out but not like too warm it's actually perfect coffee weather is it just me or does this suddenly feel like an actual weekend Vlog that's kind of the purpose of these videos it's not daily vlogging but it's like a different perspective pers perspective yeah that sounds right perspective it just came out weird that's what she said anyway it's fun I'm trying to mix up my style that's all still waiting well I managed to use the whole can already that went quicker than I thought it would especially considering it say large project size but he that just goes to show you I put in a thick coat so I don't think I'll need to do a second coat that's just a waste at that point and guys it's a desk I'm not painting a freaking bedroom or an office or anything so this is a great start I didn't even finish the legs um I had to flip those legs over and I had to flip this over again to fix it up a bit but thankfully I do have a full can so that's good okay that's definitely not enough to get my second desk done which is arriving tomorrow but like I said the second desk isn't a priority the first desk is my top priority because I want to get this thing set up by tonight which I will not be showing in this video by the way um I'll be saving that for the weekend of Loy Vlog and of course I'll show my patrons in the patrons only Vlog cuz that doesn't end until tomorrow but this is a great start and a very satisfying sound the worst part is waiting this definitely requires patience you know what I'm done for now I just touched one of these legs and actually no I flipped one of those legs earlier and it wasn't dry enough so pieces of the cardboard got stuck to it it's only one leg so it's not a big deal I'll put the messy side on the inside of the desk that way you can't see it that's actually the great thing about spray painting legs is that they don't necessarily have to be 100% perfect because you can always rotate him to your liking like say this for instance piece of grass don't be like me don't spray paint on a breezy day but then again I really really want to get this done today so for now I'm done in terms of the Vlog and spray painting um I'll pick up on this again in like an hour an hour and a half because I'm going to use that time right now to edit this Vlog this video whatever you want to call it but this is definitely a nice start it looks good doesn't it so let's grab my water grab my mug those cans can stay there and I think I will have to buy more spray paint this weekend and then hopefully Saturday I can spray paint my other desk or maybe I'll go to the local hardware store and get a canned Friday I don't know I just know I'm not doing it tomorrow hey Ma I'm not a very good pain Maui yeah I'm okay I'm learning all right that's it thank you guys so much for watching your support means a lot and please don't be too critical of me it's spray painting I'm meant to work inside computers and upgrading technology and tinkering with things spray painting is completely new to me so obviously I'm going to make some minor mistakes here and there but so far I think it's looking pretty good white Hardware looks better than black at least in terms of desk legs so look for the final product in the weekend of luy Vlog as well as the patrons only of Loy Vlog and I guess you can officially say goodbye to this desk because in theory the new desk will be right here bye tonight got a lot of work ahead of me thank you guys so much it support means a lot and I'll see you next time n\n"
