The iPhone 10s Max: A Surprisingly Powerful Device
When it comes to comparing the performance of different iPhones, one device that often gets overlooked is the iPhone 7 Plus. In this video test, we put the iPhone 10s Max up against its predecessor to see how it stacks up in terms of speed and power.
One of the first tests was a camera comparison between the two devices. The author notes that the rear-facing camera on the 10s Max auto-focused quickly, which is a notable improvement over the 7 Plus. However, upon closer inspection, we can see that both cameras have similar performance in terms of image quality and features.
Next up was a web browsing test, where we compared the loading times of Apple.com, TechCrunch, and ESPN on both devices. The results were surprising: the iPhone 10s Max consistently loaded faster than the 7 Plus, with some tests showing a difference of as much as 20% in favor of the newer device. However, it's worth noting that this was not always the case, with some tests showing no significant difference between the two devices.
To further test the performance of both devices, we conducted a series of games and social media applications. While the iPhone 10s Max did show an overall advantage in terms of speed and responsiveness, there were instances where the 7 Plus performed slightly better or held its own in certain tests.
One notable exception was Twitter, which saw the 7 Plus open up faster than the 10s Max on occasion. However, this was a rare occurrence, and for the most part, the iPhone 10s Max took the lead in terms of speed and performance.
Finally, we conducted a Wi-Fi speed test to see how both devices compared when it came to downloading and uploading data. The results were interesting: while the iPhone 10s Max did show an overall advantage in terms of download speeds, the 7 Plus actually performed slightly better in terms of upload speeds.
It's worth noting that these tests were conducted with the assumption that the iPhone 7 Plus was a two-year-old device, which may have contributed to its relatively slow performance compared to newer devices like the iPhone 10s Max. However, even taking this into account, the results suggest that the 7 Plus is still an extremely capable device that holds its own against more modern hardware.
The main takeaway from this test is that the iPhone 7 Plus is a beast of a device in 2018, and it's definitely worth considering if you're looking for a powerful smartphone. While the iPhone 10s Max may have some advantages in terms of speed and performance, the older device still holds its own in many areas.
If you do decide to stick with the iPhone 7 Plus, one thing to keep in mind is that it's not necessarily worth upgrading to the newer device just for the sake of improved performance. The camera on the 10s Max is a notable improvement, as is the lack of a home button and other features like wireless charging.
In contrast, if you're looking for a device with top-notch cameras, fast performance, and all the bells and whistles, then the iPhone 10s Max may be worth considering. However, at the current price point, it's not necessarily a straightforward decision.
Ultimately, whether or not to upgrade from an iPhone 7 Plus to an iPhone 10s Max depends on your individual needs and priorities. If you're happy with your device but want the latest and greatest features, then sticking with the older model may be the way to go. However, if you're looking for a powerful smartphone that can keep up with your busy lifestyle, then the iPhone 10s Max is definitely worth considering.
We'll continue to cover more testing and reviews of the iPhone 10s Max in future videos, so be sure to stay tuned for more updates on this device.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and today we're going to be comparing the two-year-old iPhone 7 plus to the brand new iPhone 10's max so we're going to be doing boot up tests we're going to be doing app launching test web browsing tests video editing and exporting tests and more so of course as always let's lay down the specs of each device first so the iPhone 7 plus here of course came out in 2016 and is rocking the Apple 8 infusion chip and to go along with that it has three gigabytes of RAM and then over here on the right we have the iPhone 10's max which of course released in 2018 it's rocking apples a 12v onic chip along with four gigabytes of RAM so we have a one gigabyte of RAM advantage over here on the right for the iPhone 10's Macs and we have an apple chip that is two generations newer here on the 10s Mac so let's see just how big of a difference that makes and before I get started and before anybody says something in the comments like oh why are you comparing a new phone to a phone that was released two years ago the reason is because I just want to see how much quicker the iPhone 10s max is you know somebody out there may have an iPhone 7 plus and they're thinking about upgrading specifically for speed but they may want to know you know just how much faster it is so that's the whole point of the speed test we all know that the iPhone 10s max is most likely going to be faster but we just want to see how much faster alright so now let's get into it so let's start with a simple boot up test so we're just gonna turn both of these guys off all right now we're going to boot up at the same time in three two one press the home button at the exact same time let's see which one boots up quicker so the iPhone 7 plus actually showed the Apple logo first so we'll see if that makes a difference in the end so the iPhone 7 plus actually booted up at least two seconds before the iPhone 10s max so that is very interesting because as you guys saw in my note 9 comparison the note 9 also booted up before the iPhone 10s max so Apple you really need to work on your boot up times with these new chips so now let's go ahead and see which one pulls up the camera first from the lockscreen so we're gonna swipe over on both since they are both on iOS 12 let's go and it looked about the exact same and of course the iPhone 7 plus does not have facial recognition so I cannot compare facial recognition to the fingerprint sensor but let's just kick things off with a benchmark test so we're gonna run the antutu benchmark test and this is just gonna run through a series of tests if we go on here you can see a test the CPU the GPU the UX and also memory so let's go ahead and run this at the same time and see which one finishes first and which ends up with a better score so 3 2 1 so the iPhone 10's max of course jumps out to a head start so you guys can probably tell a difference even on-screen but the graphics are definitely better on the iPhone 10's Macs and everything is just a lot more fluid and smooth than it is on the 7 plus so now we're moving on to the memory test you can see the iPhone 10's max has a good lead and there we go we did just complete it on the iPhone 10's max while we are still waiting on the iPhone 7 plus and there is our school it's going to click on that and we are still waiting for the iPhone 7 plus to finish up here so you can definitely tell that the iPhone 10's max has the advantage of course so there we go we did finally finish on these seven plus so you can see the difference in scores is quite significant the scores are pretty much double on the iPhone 10s max in every category and it's more than double in the memory section which is actually pretty interesting and that's what I actually noticed that the iPhone 7 plus was lagging behind further alright so now that we've done our benchmark let's move on to opening applications and this is of course something you're going to be doing every single day so it is important to see which one opens up the applications quicker so let's go ahead and close out of all of our applications all right we are closed on both phones let's start off with a CPU intensive game which is asphalt nine and three to one both of these should perform well with gaming you can see it's pretty neck to neck right now and the iPhone 10's max did finish first and wow the iPhone 7 plus is falling behind there we go so it looks like the iPhone 7 plus actually outperformed the note 9 here as well if you missed my speed test between the iPhone 10s max and the note 9 that is up in the cards right now but it did seem like the iPhone 7 plus even beat the note 9 which is pretty impressive although the iPhone 10's max of course did win here now let's go ahead and load up fortnight and three two one once again it looks like the iPhone 10's max got to the initializing screen first while we are still waiting on the seven plus there we go now let's launch pub G there we go and of course it looks like the iPhone 10's max is going to take the cake here pretty easily there we go the iPhone 10's max of course it did when they're even before the update screen came up the iPhone 10's max was there all right so now let's see which one will actually get into a game first press start at the exact same time and the iPhone 10's max got into the match first by a good margin actually of course the actual game played does feel smoother on the iPhone 10's max as well but it definitely doesn't feel bad on the iPhone 7 plus at all so now let's go into splice and import and export a video so we have the same camera roll here so we're gonna import the same video we're going to do this 53 second one right here we have the same one selected let's click add at the same time and now we're just going to simply share this video click Save at the same time in 1080p and this is actually surprisingly close it's looking like they're neck-and-neck actually that when seven-plus has the advantage here Wow take a look at this so exporting the video at least in this situation is going to go - wow that was actually very close probably the exact same time but the iPhone 7 + did have a little bit of an advantage there at the beginning but they did finish pretty much at the same time which is still very interesting for a two-year old device and that's twice now that the iPhone 10's max lost when importing and exporting video so very surprising there from Apple now let's do some things that you're gonna do on a daily basis which is open up social media applications so let's do Twitter and three two one the iPhone 7 + although it did open up my notifications here on the 10s max instead of my main screen but still the iPhone 7 plus one there let's go ahead and open up Instagram and that definitely opened up first here on the 10s max let's open up Amazon in three two one 10s max we're still waiting on the 7 plus here there we go let's open up the camera and the 10s max by a little bit there let's switch over to video that was about even it looks like the 10s max may have a little bit of an advantage here only milliseconds though let's go to panorama now and the iPhone 10's max just barely and now let's see if that extra gigabyte of ram here on the iphone 10's max makes any difference with real Oh the applications after they've already been running so let's start with Twitter that opened up first on the 10 s max let's go ahead into Instagram and we get this notification for some reason on the 10 s max but that was about even and let's actually open up YouTube for the first time I forgot to run through YouTube so 3 to 1 and that's gonna go to it looks like the 10 s max maybe I don't know it was very close let's open up the camera again and now we're on the rear-facing but we saw the auto focus ring first on the 10 s max let's open up YouTube again and that was pretty much the exact same eye so now let's go to a safari test and see which one is faster for browsing the web and we're of course going to start with Apple comm in three two one and that was the 10 s max now let's do TechCrunch comm and three two one ten s max by a good margin again and just for good measure we'll do espn.com as well let's go ten s max looks like once again yep there we go fully loaded still loading here on the seven-plus still loading still loading there we go so it's looking like the web browsing is surprisingly much quicker here on the iPhone 10 s max than it was on the seven plus games also load up quicker on the 10s max but it does look like that sometimes social media applications will open up quicker on the seven-plus but that is just in rare cases like with Twitter that one time I wouldn't expect that every time but since we're talking about it let's go and open up Twitter at the same time again there we go is about even let's close both of those though and try it again in three two one and there you go you can see that the iPhone 10's max won that time so it's really just gonna depend on of course a number of variables but you can pretty much count on the iPhone 10 s max being quicker in every category and finally let's do a Wi-Fi speed test let's start with the iPhone 7 plus here let's go and start for download and upload on the same Wi-Fi network of course so we got a 143 point 8 on the download and an 11 point for upload so now let's test it out on the iPhone 10's max and we only got a 106.7 download here on the iPhone 10's Mac so faster download speeds on the 7 plus for some reason and even the upload was a little bit lower on the 10s max for whatever that's worth but overall not really anything you're gonna notice on a day-to-day basis as far as the actual network speed test but everything else it seemed like the iPhone 10's max was a little bit of course you would expect that this is a two-year-old device so this iPhone 7 plus still performs extremely well compared to a 20-18 iPhone 10's Mac you know the fact that I didn't even have to cut the video because the seven-plus was lagging so far behind is a testament to how actually powerful the device is still in 2018 so yeah guys it looked like the iPhone 10's max of course did have a speed advantage in pretty much every category in this test but that is not the main point of this video the main point of this video the thing you should take away from this video is that the iPhone 7 plus is still a beast and 2018 this thing was actually quicker than the 2018 note 9 in some categories and the fact that it even kept up with the iPhone 10's max to begin with is a testament to just how powerful this thing still is so if you have an iPhone 7 plus I probably wouldn't update to the iPhone 10's max just for performance sake I mean yeah of course the 10s max is more powerful but it's not as big as you might think so based on the speed test I would not upgrade from the iPhone 7 plus to the iPhone 10s max if you only care about the performance if you care about the performance but you also care about the camera and having no home button and all that good stuff then yeah go and update to the 10s max you can see that it is quicker but just based on performance alone it's not worth the price tag of the 10s max to update from the 7 plus I would probably wait till the 2019 iPhone but that's just my opinion I want to know what you guys think down in the comments section below what do you think about this test are you surprised are you're not surprised let me know down there in the comments section below also let me know if you do have a 7 plus though in 2018 hope you guys enjoyed the video if you did make sure give it a thumbs up also make sure to subscribe for a lot more iPhone 10s max coverage I will also be covering the iPhone 10 are comparing it to these as well but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see you soonwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and
