Kimafun WIRELESS MICROPHONES - are they any good

**Reviewing the Keema Fund Wireless Kit: A Reviewer's Experience**

As a reviewer, I was excited to receive the Keema Fund wireless kit for review. The kit includes a microphone and headphones, which are designed for content creators who want high-quality audio without breaking the bank. In this article, I'll share my experience with the kit, including its pros and cons, and provide some tips for getting the most out of it.

**Improving Audio Quality**

One of the things that really stood out to me when I first started using the headphones was how much better the audio quality was compared to my previous setup. The microphone is positioned closer to the audio source, which reduces background noise and improves overall sound quality. This is likely due to the fact that the microphone is designed for use with a specific type of audio equipment, rather than being a generic off-the-shelf option.

**Trying Out Other Microphones**

In order to see how the Keema Fund kit would perform compared to other microphones, I decided to try out some other options. Specifically, I used the Rode Lav Mic, which is a popular choice among content creators. To my surprise, the improvement in sound quality was noticeable when using the Rode Lav Mic, even though it's not specifically designed for use with this kit. However, it's worth noting that the difference may not be dramatic, and more expensive microphones may offer even better performance.

**Wireless Performance**

One of the things I was excited to try out was the wireless performance of the Keema Fund kit. The battery life is supposed to be around six or seven hours, which is impressive for a wireless microphone and headphones combo. In my testing, I found that this estimate holds true - I used the headphones for several hours without noticing any significant decline in battery life.

**Durability**

Unfortunately, one of the things that really disappointed me about the Keema Fund kit was the durability of the case. The plastic exterior is a shiny "piano gloss" finish, which sounds nice but doesn't hold up well to scratches and wear. I've only had mine for a short time, but I've already seen some minor scuffs on the surface.

**The Verdict**

Overall, I would definitely recommend the Keema Fund wireless kit to anyone looking for high-quality audio without breaking the bank. The kit is relatively affordable, with a price point of around $90. While it may not be the most durable option, it's clear that the company has put some thought into designing a product that will deliver good performance at a low cost.

**Recommendation**

If you're just starting out in content creation or looking to upgrade your audio equipment without spending too much money, I would definitely suggest giving the Keema Fund wireless kit a try. It's a great way to improve the sound quality of your recordings without committing to a more expensive setup. Even if you do decide to use it as a temporary solution before upgrading to better equipment, it should still provide good performance.

**Brand Awareness**

Unfortunately, one thing that really let me down was the brand awareness and marketing of the Keema Fund kit. The company's website is relatively basic, and I couldn't find much information about the product beyond its specifications. If the company were to invest more in branding and marketing, I think they would be able to charge a higher price for their products and compete more effectively with other companies in the industry.

**Conclusion**

Overall, my experience with the Keema Fund wireless kit has been positive. While it may not be the most durable or high-end option on the market, it delivers good performance at a low cost. If you're looking for a reliable and affordable way to improve your audio quality without breaking the bank, I would definitely recommend giving this product a try.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhen you're starting out in video content creation one of the first things that you'll discover is just how difficult it is to record good quality audio particularly if you're using the inbuilt microphone in your camera one of the first upgrades you'll want to consider is an external microphone of some sort when choosing your microphone you might go for something that mounts to your camera a shotgun microphone but if you really want to get up close to the audio then a wireless kit with a lav mic is the way to go i use this rodelink filmmaker kit now this particular wireless kit retails for about 250 pounds and that's not an inconsiderable sum of money to spend if you're just starting out with content creation so could a cheaper wireless microphone kit work what about this one here this is the keemer phone it retails for just less than 90 dollars so let's take a look at it and see if it's any good and we'll see how it compares to something a little bit more premium like the road link kit now full disclosure uh keema fun actually sent me this for review uh without cost so i've agreed to review it but only on the condition that i can give my honest opinion of this product so let's unbox it and see what we get as far as i'm aware this is a dual microphone kit so there are actually two microphones in in the box two receivers so that makes that ninety dollar price point even more interesting i like the case that you get with it first of all a headset microphone um it's interesting that might suit your particular style fitness instructor someone like that that can't clip a lav mic onto a shirt that that could be quite useful to have and of course you get uh you get two of them very neat so in here then we've got what looks like a receiver or transmitter and i'm guessing that these are rechargeable ah that looks like the the receiver and yes it does have a usb port for charging so we'll need to charge all of this kit up before we can we can play with it and we've got another transmitter okay over here we've got an audio adapter and four of these foamy covers that's quite good because there's already foam covers on the microphone so it's good to have some spares and ah another microphone this is a lav mic and you get two of those as well so yeah you actually get four microphones with this kit two transmitters and one receiver uh that's pretty amazing value for ninety dollars if it works of course um we've got a connector for our our laptop some sort of usb connector there we've got a connector for iphone so if you're shooting on your on your phone and you want to use this microphone kit that's going to work as well look at it got a multi-charging cable that's pretty useful and it looks like a couple of belt clips here for the um for the transmitters yeah they just slide in by the look of it and we've actually got an instruction manual in the box that's all in english proper little instruction manual that's nice to have so we'll go through that in a minute and get everything set up so a lot of kit here a nice storage case i like that i like the quality of it the transmitter itself is made out of plastic but it looks to be pretty good quality it doesn't creak when you you press it so it looks well made and the connector itself is solid metal that's worth mentioning that the connectors themselves they look like ordinary three and a half mil jack plugs but they've actually got these barrels that screw onto the connector to give you a bit more security so you sort of plug it in and then screw it tight this can be a good thing and a bad thing i've broken cables as a result of that um whereas if of course it wasn't uh plugged in tight the cable would have just come out um but again that's also a negative as well you don't want your cables falling out when you're filming so let's just have a look at one of these belt clips um doesn't feel like the most high quality item i've ever seen but looks like it will do the job doesn't feel ridiculously fragile or anything and it just slides onto the transmitter okay and i guess you could do that either way with the cable pointing up or down i have to say you know the transmitter size is really quite small just compare that with the uh the road link there it's quite a difference of course this particular transmitter takes a a batteries or can take a usb charge but with this one uh it's got obviously got an internal battery and whether or not it can be powered as well from an external usb source we'll have to find out um it'd be pretty irritating of course if it ran out of charge part way through a shoot and then you had to wait for it to charge up again so we'll check that it looks pretty simple there's a power switch on the side we've got input levels on the side as well the buttons yeah they feel pretty cheap but it seems to work if we have a look at the transmitter this uh just simply has a three and a half mil jack on the end there so it's going to plug into your audio recorder like this and there is an adapter here to adapt it to a larger jack size but what's interesting about that i immediately notice is that that's a mono jack and this is a stereo plug so i'm not entirely sure how that's going to work um i don't like the idea of just having that sticking out of an audio recorder i think it would have been better if like these uh transmitters there was a sort of cable attached to the end rather than just the plug straight away now we've got this dongle which has got the label laptop on it and a usb type a plug at this end and then there's uh two three and a half mil sockets with headphones on one side and microphone on the other so for instance on the macbook pro the one jack is both an input and an output for your headphones so maybe this gives you that additional option oh yeah and the the socket's not very tight i have to say that so we've also got this phone adapter of course if you've got one of the latest iphones you don't have a headphone socket so you need to get a lightning to three and a half mil jack adapter and then presumably you can plug this cable in and what it does is it gives you both a microphone input and a headphone output so if you want to monitor your audio as you're recording then you'd be able to do that let's just check the quality of these connections see that's much more secure that's uh that feels quite tight actually much better than this this device that's um i can see problems with this i can see cables easily being pulled out with this device so possibly the weak point in the kit so that's the kit you seem to get an awful lot for your 90 dollars and i have to say i was expecting it to be very cheap and very low quality but it doesn't feel that way with the exception of that laptop connector everything does feel you know pretty good for for 90 dollars it seems to represent excellent value but of course it stands or falls on the basis of its audio quality so we need to test that out and maybe compare it to something like the rode filmmaker kit so we'll get everything charged up and then we'll do some tests so we've charged up the keema fund kit and in fairness it didn't take very long we're all ready to do some testing now we've got two identical tascam audio recorders here i've plugged the kemofum receiver into one and into the other i've got two road link receivers since the keema fun kit comes with two receivers we figured we would test it against two of the road link microphones all we need now is an intelligent articulate companion to come on and help me test these things but instead we've got pete welcome pete do you see the abuse i have to put just i'll move across look you've got the two microphones already on there is a clear difference between the two one is slightly bigger um i think it's the keema fun one and the cable in particular is so much thicker it's actually hard to bend it and get it neatly tucked in which is what you want from a lab mic yeah so perhaps not quite as refined as the as the road microphone and just to demonstrate the difference here uh what i've got here is one of the more expensive uh road lav mics and if i if i can actually just sort of take out the capsule now actually you're wearing this particular microphone that's right i'm wearing the the one that comes with the kit which is a bit cheaper and we found it it wasn't that great yeah that's true it's okay but the the upgrade that we got is far superior so if you have a look here we've got the road lav mic and i don't know if you can make out the size of that capsule in fact i can actually unscrew it and lose it there it is that's the microphone that tiny little bit there and it's got this thing called a mic on connection which is which is very small so you have to use an adapter to get it into the audio recorder and i have to say uh these are not very reliable no they're not we we did uh some outside filming a few weeks ago uh and yours broke didn't they and we didn't realize immediately it wasn't obvious when we did an audio check it was only obvious after we reviewed the footage and lost your entire channel so they are quite delicate they are whereas this will probably stand up to a bit more abuse so i'll just take the take the foamy off the top and if you can see the size of the capsule there it's much larger so here's how the audio test is going to work uh pete you need to get yourself set up with your receiver okay and there's a belt clip there i'm going to let you figure out how to do that i'm going to stand up to do this good i've already switched it on we've already paired it to the receiver in fact we didn't need to pair it just in case i switch it on and it worked take the sheath off now these connectors look to me to be exactly the same as these connectors on the road mics so what i also want to do is try the road mics going through these transmitters and receivers because if that gives a better sound quality then it means that you've got an upgrade path with this cheaper set and that's always nice to have excellent so we've got the um the kema fund plugged into the audio recorder now of course this is receiving two signals and uh it's going into a single input and the adapter that's been provided is just mono as well so what's happening is the audio recorder is recording onto one channel but both of our microphones now i'm sure you could split this off and have a bit more control over it but for our particular test it's not really going to make any difference obviously that would be important to you if you are making a film because you'd want to be able to adjust the levels of each person individually so good to know that that works we've set the levels so that they're broadly equivalent so now all that remains p is for you and i to have scintillating conversation with which to test these two microphones that might be a challenge so pete you're also a content creator you're just getting your channel started so look guys link to pete's channel in the description please fire over there and get subscribed to pete's channel pete you do lots of sort of fitness type stuff i do yeah so obviously a lot of what i'm doing is not in the studio like this so a lav mic is something i use quite a lot do use the roads a lot when i'm out and about if uh if i'm not i'm using a sennheiser on top of my camera going straight into the camera but uh the road marks i use a lot and what i do find about them the quality is great but the packs are quite bulky uh so that's so that's these things here so yeah you've you've got two receivers um that you've got to carry around with your audio recorder or connected to your camera um they do have a a cold shoe mount but it is a little bit clumsy i will say you've got something of the same size that affixes to your to your belt as well and uh these take aa batteries although you can usb power them but most of the time we use aa batteries with them yeah that's right and unless you're you know you put them behind you and you think about every shot you're doing they're quite obvious when you're wearing them they they sit very obviously on you what i like about the chemotherm well one here is it is really small and it could probably just go in your pocket which is quite nice because i don't like my lab mic on display if normally if i've got the choice i'll put it under my t-shirt with a bit of tape rather than on display so i would say the rogue mic size helps with that um but the keemer fun packs lend themselves more to that so i'm really interested to see what results we get from this because it may be useful for my channel excellent so we're going to do uh some sound tests um so we're basically talking into the microphones now what we'll be doing in the edit is we'll just switch between the different microphones so that you can hear what's going on so just as a reminder both pete and i are using the keema fund microphones as is we're both going through the road link filmmaker kit for the wireless i've got the standard lav mic that comes with this kit and pete is using the upgraded rode lavalier mic with a micon adapter and so i have tested these separately so i know that the more expensive rode mic does give a better sound than the one that's included with the the filmmaker kit but it's it'd be interesting just to get a contrast between them both both my voice which is very different to your voice yep yeah some might say my voice is nicer some might say that i'd be interested to see what you guys think you're just now when you're shooting outside you spoke about putting the lav mic under your t-shirt but of course if you have your lav mic exposed one of these foamies is not going to cut it with the upgraded rode lav mic you get a miniature dead cat which we've called the dead hamster the dead hamster and if you wear one of these wester out and about that gets rid of a lot of wind noise i assume that a similar sort of attachment might be available for these microphones but it's not included with the kit however i will say what you get with the kit is pretty impressive now pete you may not have noticed this but we've actually got four microphones included with this kit so we've also got headset microphone now of course your channel is it's fitness and you're outdoors and there may be situations where it's actually not that easy to attach a lav mic through a t-shirt would you consider wearing a headset do you want that honest answer to that yeah i probably wouldn't because i i don't know i i always feel like headsets are for if you're doing like gaming or doing a pilates class you know you're actually running a pilates class i feel quite conspicuous with it but i'd be willing to give it a go for your channel and maybe for my channel i don't know i'd have to it would have to be a very specific set of things maybe in the car but even then maybe not okay well look in order to be thorough we need to test these microphones as well so why don't we do a quick swaparoo and unplug our lav mics and plug these ones in let's do it i i don't think this is the cheapest most horrible thing i've ever felt i'm not overly keen on the way the the wire is sort of clipped onto the to the headband here i can see my hair getting caught in that but nonetheless let's give it a go so i assume you something like that and of course the audio levels are going to be crazy yeah so let's try and there we go put it put it about there so i have actually have the level going into the audio recorder there to stop it from clipping and the reason for that of course is the microphone is so much closer to your mouth that's actually a really good thing when you're you're making content uh the closer the microphone is to the subject the less background noise you're going to get and the cleaner your audio will be so i expect this might actually sound semi-reasonable yeah and i just oh i'm very self-conscious with this one i don't know if you feel that way but i have thought of a set of content creators who would probably like this which is anyone that's doing fitness instruction and therefore they're moving about a bit if you've got a lav mic on it does tend to pick up the rustling of your clothes and this is exactly what you'd expect to see in some kind of class with the instructor so perhaps if you're doing either live streaming or filming fitness instruction uh pt instruction this sort of thing wouldn't look out of place and you know i move my head about a bit and it seems to be staying in place and i would imagine hopefully you're not getting too much feedback and wrestling on the channel yeah and that's an interesting point there because we're approaching this of course from the point of view of content creators making video because that's our perspective but there's no reason why you couldn't plug this kit into a mixing desk and through a pa system so you could actually use it for live i can see it working for live events and other things although this this wire business i've obviously not not done that right because this probably isn't the best look where's this i'm going to take this one off now let's let's go back to the lav mic it's nice it's included it's nice there's another option it's an option isn't it yeah and and remind me how much was this all again well you you tell me pete how much do you how much do you think you should pay for a kit with two wireless sets basically and four microphones it's really difficult to answer that because i would look at if it had road printed on it that might affect my perception we all are affected by brand um i would say the build quality of it suggests a price level but putting that aside for a minute not not not having handled the kit before now or seen the brand if i didn't know any of those things i'd say maybe 150 minimum okay so it's 90 u.s really yeah that's a bargain if the quality is okay well that remains to be seen and there's there's a nice sort of um carrying case that went with it as well um i actually think the quality the build quality is all right um these these receivers you know i mean they're they're not creaky do you know what i mean when it's really cheap plastic and the connectors are metal yeah which i wasn't expecting so i i think you know on the surface it looks like a good deal for 90 dollars obviously uh we'll we'll need to just listen back to the audio before we film the conclusion uh there's one other thing i want to do before we test the range because obviously it's wireless kit so you want to know how far you can go with it yeah and we'll pop outside to do a quick range test in a moment but first of all what i'd like to do is swap over our microphones so i'm going to put my rode microphone so i've got the standard glass that comes with the filmmaker kit i'm going to plug it into the kema fun you've got the more expensive one likewise if you plug it in and see what happens i'm going to just say it is having the cable rather than having to it's easier to plug in the design is good i said this in the intro but it's unfortunate that they didn't put the little cable on on the receiver like they have on the the transmitters well let me just set up the levels now because we put new new microphones on so i'm using the mic that comes as standard with this road link kit i think you can buy it separately and it's it's not massively expensive you've got the the more expensive one which is the road lavalier and we'll pop the price up on the screen for this one yep and it seems to be coming through fine so it's just be interesting to see how it sounds coming through the chemo fun and whether the transmitter makes the difference or whether it's as i suspect the mic that is the most important part of the components here right so pete you up for just popping outside and testing the range on these things let's do it so we're about two meters away from the receiver at this point what we're going to do is just walk off into the distance and see how far we get before the signal drops out let's go obviously pete there's going to be a lot of wind noise because we haven't got the dead hamster yeah and there is a there is a bit of a breeze today isn't there so um it will be interesting to see how well the keema thumb mic does with just the big foamy on it practically speaking how far would you actually ever need to go from your receiver with a lav mic like this well we're at we're out of shot at the camera now so i'd say that that substitutes what that's got to be 30 meters at least certainly gives content creators flexibility in wanting to do stuff doesn't it i mean we did an outside shoot a few weeks ago where we were walking in these kind of distances and it does add quite a nice dimension to your your content the range of the wireless signal is pretty impressive certainly outdoors we got to what 30 meters and apparently the signal didn't drop off too much if you were inside obviously the range would be a lot smaller but even so most of the time when are you going to need to be that far away from the receiver exactly i think it was perfectly adequate in fact more than adequate performance yeah we were genuinely quite surprised with that um of course the critical thing is how does it sound well we've listened back to some of the recordings and i think it's fair to say that the standard lav mic picks up quite a lot of noise yeah there's a bit of a background hiss i could detect it but it wasn't awful so not not bad at all but at the end of the day you know it obviously it's a cheap microphone um you can't you can't have everything for ninety dollars uh what we did find though is when we put the headsets on is that the the quality was better less background noise but i think that's purely a product of the microphone being a lot closer to the audio source yeah so i wonder if we would have uh got a similar result moving the lav mic up although obviously that might not be what you want no so some different things that you could maybe try of course what we were interested to see is whether or not we could use our rode lav mics not because we're specifically saying go out and buy a road lav mic with this kit but it's quite easy to buy yourself a lav mic with a three and a half mil jack plug which means there is an upgrade path and when we plugged in the road lav mics there was an improvement we're not talking about night and day difference here you know the more money that you spend the return gets smaller and smaller you know you're paying a lot more just for that that tiny little bit of difference yeah and a lot of the time when you actually put that into your final video your final piece of content particularly doing video content most people won't notice it when when it's in amongst all the other stuff as well particularly if you're doing any other kind of sound design or or anything else in your video a lot of that will escape so don't be too precious about that if you're on the budget absolutely and i've got to say the wireless performance is great battery is good as well we've not been able to get them to drain in all of our testing the manual says six or seven hours of battery life and no reason to disbelieve that and i finally just sort of uh we took the protective stickers off the off this uh black plastic shiny plastic and mine's already scratched and i didn't do anything to it i don't think yeah mine isn't yet but i've hardly hardly touched it so we don't know i i don't understand this uh sort of they call it piano gloss don't they they put it in cars and i just think it's the most stupid material it immediately shows up as being tatty so bear that in mind they won't stay looking pristine forever overall though pete for 90 can we give this a recommendation i would certainly say if you're starting out in content creation or perhaps you've been going for a little while you just want to up your audio but you don't want to break the bank yeah i would say these are a good shout and actually even if you're looking to have perhaps a more mobile solution when you're out and about with maybe a better mic then these are a good shout too so not too bad really considering the the amazing price one of the things that i'm not overly keen on i mean obviously this comes from china it's the brand you know whether keema fund means something to the chinese i don't know it doesn't translate well into english and i feel that some of these chinese companies you know if they invested just a little bit more in brand design and consulted with english speakers in the territory they want to sell the product that could have gone a long way to improving the product because people will pay more for it yeah absolutely just a few few key things the case design is a little bit i don't know it just it looks cheap and the brand looks cheap so we were expecting because of that a certain level we we've been pleasantly surprised if we hadn't known that would we have bought them based on how they look and how the brand is well sadly i would probably say no i am a bit of a snob and echo your comments if if the company's looking to sell in another territory were to to approach perhaps those in in that territory to help them with their marketing and their branding and their product design just the case the interior is great they'd be on a winner and they could charge more for it yeah so i think it's fairly true that i'd have never bought this product uh obviously keema fund reached out to me and asked if i'd like to review it um i'm glad they did because it's opened my eyes a little bit um i think that a lot of people would be like me they wouldn't go onto amazon and purchase something like the keemer fun unless they've heard some old farts prattle on about it for probably far too long so let's uh send the review there um so if you're in the market for cheap wireless kit you get a lot for your money ninety dollars can't really go wrong amazon links in the description if you want to pick one of these up and support the channel so thanks very much for watching i hope you enjoyed it subscribe for more content and uh hopefully we did enough to win a thumbs up or a thumbs down if that's your thing in any case see you next time for some more geekery youwhen you're starting out in video content creation one of the first things that you'll discover is just how difficult it is to record good quality audio particularly if you're using the inbuilt microphone in your into your audio recorder like this and there is an adapter here to adapt it to a larger jack size but what's interesting about that i immediately notice is that that's a mono jack and this is a stereo plug so i'm not entirely sure how that's going to work um i don't like the idea of just having that sticking out of an audio recorder i think it would have been better if like these uh transmitters there was a sort of cable attached to the end rather than just the plug straight away now we've got this dongle which has got the label laptop on it and a usb type a plug at this end and then there's uh two three and a half mil sockets with headphones on one side and microphone on the other so for instance on the macbook pro the one jack is both an input and an output for your headphones so maybe this gives you that additional option oh yeah and the the socket's not very tight i have to say that so we've also got this phone adapter of course if you've got one of the latest iphones you don't have a headphone socket so you need to get a lightning to three and a half mil jack adapter and then presumably you can plug this cable in and what it does is it gives you both a microphone input and a headphone output so if you want to monitor your audio as you're recording then you'd be able to do that let's just check the quality of these connections see that's much more secure that's uh that feels quite tight actually much better than this this device that's um i can see problems with this i can see cables easily being pulled out with this device so possibly the weak point in the kit so that's the kit you seem to get an awful lot for your 90 dollars and i have to say i was expecting it to be very cheap and very low quality but it doesn't feel that way with the exception of that laptop connector everything does feel you know pretty good for for 90 dollars it seems to represent excellent value but of course it stands or falls on the basis of its audio quality so we need to test that out and maybe compare it to something like the rode filmmaker kit so we'll get everything charged up and then we'll do some tests so we've charged up the keema fund kit and in fairness it didn't take very long we're all ready to do some testing now we've got two identical tascam audio recorders here i've plugged the kemofum receiver into one and into the other i've got two road link receivers since the keema fun kit comes with two receivers we figured we would test it against two of the road link microphones all we need now is an intelligent articulate companion to come on and help me test these things but instead we've got pete welcome pete do you see the abuse i have to put just i'll move across look you've got the two microphones already on there is a clear difference between the two one is slightly bigger um i think it's the keema fun one and the cable in particular is so much thicker it's actually hard to bend it and get it neatly tucked in which is what you want from a lab mic yeah so perhaps not quite as refined as the as the road microphone and just to demonstrate the difference here uh what i've got here is one of the more expensive uh road lav mics and if i if i can actually just sort of take out the capsule now actually you're wearing this particular microphone that's right i'm wearing the the one that comes with the kit which is a bit cheaper and we found it it wasn't that great yeah that's true it's okay but the the upgrade that we got is far superior so if you have a look here we've got the road lav mic and i don't know if you can make out the size of that capsule in fact i can actually unscrew it and lose it there it is that's the microphone that tiny little bit there and it's got this thing called a mic on connection which is which is very small so you have to use an adapter to get it into the audio recorder and i have to say uh these are not very reliable no they're not we we did uh some outside filming a few weeks ago uh and yours broke didn't they and we didn't realize immediately it wasn't obvious when we did an audio check it was only obvious after we reviewed the footage and lost your entire channel so they are quite delicate they are whereas this will probably stand up to a bit more abuse so i'll just take the take the foamy off the top and if you can see the size of the capsule there it's much larger so here's how the audio test is going to work uh pete you need to get yourself set up with your receiver okay and there's a belt clip there i'm going to let you figure out how to do that i'm going to stand up to do this good i've already switched it on we've already paired it to the receiver in fact we didn't need to pair it just in case i switch it on and it worked take the sheath off now these connectors look to me to be exactly the same as these connectors on the road mics so what i also want to do is try the road mics going through these transmitters and receivers because if that gives a better sound quality then it means that you've got an upgrade path with this cheaper set and that's always nice to have excellent so we've got the um the kema fund plugged into the audio recorder now of course this is receiving two signals and uh it's going into a single input and the adapter that's been provided is just mono as well so what's happening is the audio recorder is recording onto one channel but both of our microphones now i'm sure you could split this off and have a bit more control over it but for our particular test it's not really going to make any difference obviously that would be important to you if you are making a film because you'd want to be able to adjust the levels of each person individually so good to know that that works we've set the levels so that they're broadly equivalent so now all that remains p is for you and i to have scintillating conversation with which to test these two microphones that might be a challenge so pete you're also a content creator you're just getting your channel started so look guys link to pete's channel in the description please fire over there and get subscribed to pete's channel pete you do lots of sort of fitness type stuff i do yeah so obviously a lot of what i'm doing is not in the studio like this so a lav mic is something i use quite a lot do use the roads a lot when i'm out and about if uh if i'm not i'm using a sennheiser on top of my camera going straight into the camera but uh the road marks i use a lot and what i do find about them the quality is great but the packs are quite bulky uh so that's so that's these things here so yeah you've you've got two receivers um that you've got to carry around with your audio recorder or connected to your camera um they do have a a cold shoe mount but it is a little bit clumsy i will say you've got something of the same size that affixes to your to your belt as well and uh these take aa batteries although you can usb power them but most of the time we use aa batteries with them yeah that's right and unless you're you know you put them behind you and you think about every shot you're doing they're quite obvious when you're wearing them they they sit very obviously on you what i like about the chemotherm well one here is it is really small and it could probably just go in your pocket which is quite nice because i don't like my lab mic on display if normally if i've got the choice i'll put it under my t-shirt with a bit of tape rather than on display so i would say the rogue mic size helps with that um but the keemer fun packs lend themselves more to that so i'm really interested to see what results we get from this because it may be useful for my channel excellent so we're going to do uh some sound tests um so we're basically talking into the microphones now what we'll be doing in the edit is we'll just switch between the different microphones so that you can hear what's going on so just as a reminder both pete and i are using the keema fund microphones as is we're both going through the road link filmmaker kit for the wireless i've got the standard lav mic that comes with this kit and pete is using the upgraded rode lavalier mic with a micon adapter and so i have tested these separately so i know that the more expensive rode mic does give a better sound than the one that's included with the the filmmaker kit but it's it'd be interesting just to get a contrast between them both both my voice which is very different to your voice yep yeah some might say my voice is nicer some might say that i'd be interested to see what you guys think you're just now when you're shooting outside you spoke about putting the lav mic under your t-shirt but of course if you have your lav mic exposed one of these foamies is not going to cut it with the upgraded rode lav mic you get a miniature dead cat which we've called the dead hamster the dead hamster and if you wear one of these wester out and about that gets rid of a lot of wind noise i assume that a similar sort of attachment might be available for these microphones but it's not included with the kit however i will say what you get with the kit is pretty impressive now pete you may not have noticed this but we've actually got four microphones included with this kit so we've also got headset microphone now of course your channel is it's fitness and you're outdoors and there may be situations where it's actually not that easy to attach a lav mic through a t-shirt would you consider wearing a headset do you want that honest answer to that yeah i probably wouldn't because i i don't know i i always feel like headsets are for if you're doing like gaming or doing a pilates class you know you're actually running a pilates class i feel quite conspicuous with it but i'd be willing to give it a go for your channel and maybe for my channel i don't know i'd have to it would have to be a very specific set of things maybe in the car but even then maybe not okay well look in order to be thorough we need to test these microphones as well so why don't we do a quick swaparoo and unplug our lav mics and plug these ones in let's do it i i don't think this is the cheapest most horrible thing i've ever felt i'm not overly keen on the way the the wire is sort of clipped onto the to the headband here i can see my hair getting caught in that but nonetheless let's give it a go so i assume you something like that and of course the audio levels are going to be crazy yeah so let's try and there we go put it put it about there so i have actually have the level going into the audio recorder there to stop it from clipping and the reason for that of course is the microphone is so much closer to your mouth that's actually a really good thing when you're you're making content uh the closer the microphone is to the subject the less background noise you're going to get and the cleaner your audio will be so i expect this might actually sound semi-reasonable yeah and i just oh i'm very self-conscious with this one i don't know if you feel that way but i have thought of a set of content creators who would probably like this which is anyone that's doing fitness instruction and therefore they're moving about a bit if you've got a lav mic on it does tend to pick up the rustling of your clothes and this is exactly what you'd expect to see in some kind of class with the instructor so perhaps if you're doing either live streaming or filming fitness instruction uh pt instruction this sort of thing wouldn't look out of place and you know i move my head about a bit and it seems to be staying in place and i would imagine hopefully you're not getting too much feedback and wrestling on the channel yeah and that's an interesting point there because we're approaching this of course from the point of view of content creators making video because that's our perspective but there's no reason why you couldn't plug this kit into a mixing desk and through a pa system so you could actually use it for live i can see it working for live events and other things although this this wire business i've obviously not not done that right because this probably isn't the best look where's this i'm going to take this one off now let's let's go back to the lav mic it's nice it's included it's nice there's another option it's an option isn't it yeah and and remind me how much was this all again well you you tell me pete how much do you how much do you think you should pay for a kit with two wireless sets basically and four microphones it's really difficult to answer that because i would look at if it had road printed on it that might affect my perception we all are affected by brand um i would say the build quality of it suggests a price level but putting that aside for a minute not not not having handled the kit before now or seen the brand if i didn't know any of those things i'd say maybe 150 minimum okay so it's 90 u.s really yeah that's a bargain if the quality is okay well that remains to be seen and there's there's a nice sort of um carrying case that went with it as well um i actually think the quality the build quality is all right um these these receivers you know i mean they're they're not creaky do you know what i mean when it's really cheap plastic and the connectors are metal yeah which i wasn't expecting so i i think you know on the surface it looks like a good deal for 90 dollars obviously uh we'll we'll need to just listen back to the audio before we film the conclusion uh there's one other thing i want to do before we test the range because obviously it's wireless kit so you want to know how far you can go with it yeah and we'll pop outside to do a quick range test in a moment but first of all what i'd like to do is swap over our microphones so i'm going to put my rode microphone so i've got the standard glass that comes with the filmmaker kit i'm going to plug it into the kema fun you've got the more expensive one likewise if you plug it in and see what happens i'm going to just say it is having the cable rather than having to it's easier to plug in the design is good i said this in the intro but it's unfortunate that they didn't put the little cable on on the receiver like they have on the the transmitters well let me just set up the levels now because we put new new microphones on so i'm using the mic that comes as standard with this road link kit i think you can buy it separately and it's it's not massively expensive you've got the the more expensive one which is the road lavalier and we'll pop the price up on the screen for this one yep and it seems to be coming through fine so it's just be interesting to see how it sounds coming through the chemo fun and whether the transmitter makes the difference or whether it's as i suspect the mic that is the most important part of the components here right so pete you up for just popping outside and testing the range on these things let's do it so we're about two meters away from the receiver at this point what we're going to do is just walk off into the distance and see how far we get before the signal drops out let's go obviously pete there's going to be a lot of wind noise because we haven't got the dead hamster yeah and there is a there is a bit of a breeze today isn't there so um it will be interesting to see how well the keema thumb mic does with just the big foamy on it practically speaking how far would you actually ever need to go from your receiver with a lav mic like this well we're at we're out of shot at the camera now so i'd say that that substitutes what that's got to be 30 meters at least certainly gives content creators flexibility in wanting to do stuff doesn't it i mean we did an outside shoot a few weeks ago where we were walking in these kind of distances and it does add quite a nice dimension to your your content the range of the wireless signal is pretty impressive certainly outdoors we got to what 30 meters and apparently the signal didn't drop off too much if you were inside obviously the range would be a lot smaller but even so most of the time when are you going to need to be that far away from the receiver exactly i think it was perfectly adequate in fact more than adequate performance yeah we were genuinely quite surprised with that um of course the critical thing is how does it sound well we've listened back to some of the recordings and i think it's fair to say that the standard lav mic picks up quite a lot of noise yeah there's a bit of a background hiss i could detect it but it wasn't awful so not not bad at all but at the end of the day you know it obviously it's a cheap microphone um you can't you can't have everything for ninety dollars uh what we did find though is when we put the headsets on is that the the quality was better less background noise but i think that's purely a product of the microphone being a lot closer to the audio source yeah so i wonder if we would have uh got a similar result moving the lav mic up although obviously that might not be what you want no so some different things that you could maybe try of course what we were interested to see is whether or not we could use our rode lav mics not because we're specifically saying go out and buy a road lav mic with this kit but it's quite easy to buy yourself a lav mic with a three and a half mil jack plug which means there is an upgrade path and when we plugged in the road lav mics there was an improvement we're not talking about night and day difference here you know the more money that you spend the return gets smaller and smaller you know you're paying a lot more just for that that tiny little bit of difference yeah and a lot of the time when you actually put that into your final video your final piece of content particularly doing video content most people won't notice it when when it's in amongst all the other stuff as well particularly if you're doing any other kind of sound design or or anything else in your video a lot of that will escape so don't be too precious about that if you're on the budget absolutely and i've got to say the wireless performance is great battery is good as well we've not been able to get them to drain in all of our testing the manual says six or seven hours of battery life and no reason to disbelieve that and i finally just sort of uh we took the protective stickers off the off this uh black plastic shiny plastic and mine's already scratched and i didn't do anything to it i don't think yeah mine isn't yet but i've hardly hardly touched it so we don't know i i don't understand this uh sort of they call it piano gloss don't they they put it in cars and i just think it's the most stupid material it immediately shows up as being tatty so bear that in mind they won't stay looking pristine forever overall though pete for 90 can we give this a recommendation i would certainly say if you're starting out in content creation or perhaps you've been going for a little while you just want to up your audio but you don't want to break the bank yeah i would say these are a good shout and actually even if you're looking to have perhaps a more mobile solution when you're out and about with maybe a better mic then these are a good shout too so not too bad really considering the the amazing price one of the things that i'm not overly keen on i mean obviously this comes from china it's the brand you know whether keema fund means something to the chinese i don't know it doesn't translate well into english and i feel that some of these chinese companies you know if they invested just a little bit more in brand design and consulted with english speakers in the territory they want to sell the product that could have gone a long way to improving the product because people will pay more for it yeah absolutely just a few few key things the case design is a little bit i don't know it just it looks cheap and the brand looks cheap so we were expecting because of that a certain level we we've been pleasantly surprised if we hadn't known that would we have bought them based on how they look and how the brand is well sadly i would probably say no i am a bit of a snob and echo your comments if if the company's looking to sell in another territory were to to approach perhaps those in in that territory to help them with their marketing and their branding and their product design just the case the interior is great they'd be on a winner and they could charge more for it yeah so i think it's fairly true that i'd have never bought this product uh obviously keema fund reached out to me and asked if i'd like to review it um i'm glad they did because it's opened my eyes a little bit um i think that a lot of people would be like me they wouldn't go onto amazon and purchase something like the keemer fun unless they've heard some old farts prattle on about it for probably far too long so let's uh send the review there um so if you're in the market for cheap wireless kit you get a lot for your money ninety dollars can't really go wrong amazon links in the description if you want to pick one of these up and support the channel so thanks very much for watching i hope you enjoyed it subscribe for more content and uh hopefully we did enough to win a thumbs up or a thumbs down if that's your thing in any case see you next time for some more geekery you\n"
