all the way in our next top new feature has to be the display so the iphone 13 pro max is still rocking a gorgeous 6.7 inch liquid retina pro xdr display but it's also now a pro motion display pro motion is apple's marketing term for a high frame rate display combined with the a15 bionic processor this display is able to ramp up to 120 hertz which is a very high refresh rate when something is going on if i'm just staring at my phone it's not going to be at 120 hertz but as soon as i start swiping through my home screens or i start swiping through an article on apple insider it ramps that display up to that 120 refreshes a second and it looks so much nicer just feels smoother and more responsive as you interact with the display and because it can lower the frame rate the rest of the time it doesn't trash your battery other changes to the display include a new brighter display before you had typical average brightness about 800 nits if you were outside but now it can go all the way up to a thousand nits when you're in that brighter sunlight so it makes it easier to see your screen while you're in brighter scenarios it still has 1200 peak brightness nits though when you're watching hdr content like that w vision that you can record with the new cameras uh on top of that we also have a smaller notch the notch has decreased in size now uh it's smaller left and right though it does stick out a tiny bit more but just overall a smaller notch which is something some people have been clamoring for next top feature is storage a lot of users who opt for the iphone 13 pro max or even the iphone 12 pro max they're looking for just the highest end iphone possible and with the iphone 13 pro max you can get up to one terabyte of storage space now i mean that makes sense because things are taking up more room on our phones apps are getting a little bit bigger in size and if you're recording something in pro res video man it's going to eat up storage pretty iphone 13 pro max you can now use the ultra wide lens to get extremely close to your subject as you get close it can automatically switch into macro mode and let you get incredible shots never before possible with the stock lenses on your phone you can get so close look at the hairs on the back of this bee i shot just a few quick photos in my garden here on launch day and already i'm impressed with how cool these photos look but it doesn't just work with photo you can record a video as well in this super close macro mode so i hope you like how these photos look because i'm pretty confident you're going to see your instagram feed and your twitter feed just full of crazy macro shots up next is the ultra wide lens apple really did a disservice with the iphone 12 pro max its ultra wide lens was my main criticism with the device as a whole it just had a much slower aperture it was an f24 and you really saw the grain and noise in photos and videos that you captured especially when the light dipped down almost at all and you couldn't do things like night mode with the ultra wide lens or even deep fusion um any time i was recording video and it was like mildly dim i just saw so much noise and grain come out in video and it was disappointing to say the least i think a lot of people love the ultra wide lens these stylized photos look incredible but they they suffered from the inferior quality of the ultra wide lens on the iphone 12 pro max but with the iphone 13 pro max apple has increased the aperture going from an f 2.4 to an f 1.8 we have a significantly faster lens here and it lets in a whole lot more light so we're going to get less noise less grain just overall higher sharper images they're going to look much much better i've done a little bit of testing so far and not a ton i'll have a photo compare soon but just in these like early tests the ultra wide lens is a huge step forward it can focus faster because it lets more light in it can do better shots in low light and just overall less noise and grain in photos and videos so if you use the ultra wide lens a lot before you're gonna love it on the 13 pro max let's talk about photographic styles if you like filters or you're not sure about filters photographic styles are a more subtle intelligent form of a filter a filter you would apply after you've shot your photo and it'll apply the same look and feel to the photo as a whole but photographic styles they're set at the time you capture a photo and they can just slightly alter the look so it's not a whole overall filter you're not going to get a black and white filter with this or anything but they're more subtle stylistic choices that you can capture when you're taking the photo you can choose various styles here and you could just leave this set all the time based on your preferred shooting look so there's standard mode just your basic you know natural looking photos there's a vibrant which pulls a lot more color and vibrancy in those photos there's rich contrast which again brings out the contrast more in those photos then there's warm and there is cool you can pretty much tell what those two do you can even see the adjustments apple's applying here and you can control them yourself so if you want to you know increase or decrease the effect by a little bit you can do so and have that set in there and every time you take a photo it's going to have your photographic style applied i love this this feels like a very pro feature that is coming into all of the apple's new iphones what about battery life battery life may be the biggest new feature coming to iphone 13 this year and even more so for the 13 pro max this is the longest lasting battery that apple has ever put in an iphone it's kind of absurd how
