Alcatel 5 Series Smartphones - Hands On at MWC 2018

Alcatel's New Line of Phones at MWC 2019: A Closer Look

As I visited Alcatel's booth at MWC 2019 in Barcelona, I had the opportunity to explore their new line of phones. This time around, they have introduced a top-of-the-range Alcatel 5, as well as several new Alcatel 3 and 1 phones. One of the key design elements that stands out across all these devices is the 89 aspect ratio in the display. Every phone from Alcatel's new lineup features this unique display style.

One of the standout features of the Alcatel 5 is its fingerprint sensor, which has become a standard feature on many modern smartphones. The device also boasts a 12-megapixel main camera, and what really caught my attention was the dual-lens front-facing camera. This feature allows the selfie camera to automatically switch to a wide-angle mode if it detects more than two faces in the shot. This means that users can take great group selfies with ease.

However, I did notice that this phone is still running Android 7, despite what Alcatel had mentioned earlier. It's worth noting that others have confirmed that these phones will be updated to Android 8 in the near future. The Alcatel 5CD also features a USB-C port at the bottom instead of micro USB, which makes it a bit more premium compared to its competitors.

The price point for this phone is quite steep, with the Alcatel 5CD set to cost €229 and available by the time you see this article. This comes in black and gold colors, giving users a sleek and modern design. There's also an Alcatel 3 phone that was released earlier, but the new 3-series line from Alcatel features a 5.5-inch display.

The new 3-series phones have made their way onto the market with a price tag of €149 for the budget-friendly option. The device has a fingerprint sensor on the back, which gives users an added layer of security when unlocking their phone. This 3v is the only one in this series to come equipped with a 6-inch display and a 2K resolution, making it ideal for those who want a larger screen but don't want to break the bank.

The Alcatel One series has also been updated, with new devices available under €100. The device I grabbed from their booth is actually the 3G version of the Alcatel One, which doesn't feature a fingerprint sensor at this price point. However, users still get the 89 aspect ratio display and Android 7 on board.

Availability in the US should be within the next few weeks for these new devices from Alcatel.
