something that bothers me as I'm seeing that this is pretty durable but as I've been using this more and more I find myself grabbing the Oasis more than I find myself grabbing for my Voyage purely because the form factor really works it's strange at first but you get used to it and that feeling when you're holding this with one hand it almost disappears into the palm of your hand I know that's what Amazon was going for but I think they've done it it feels suddenly like there's nothingness there's nothing here and all you pay attention to are the words on the page that works brilliantly it's a lot lighter it's a lot easier for me to maneuver especially one-handed and because of that when I'm sitting in bed at night I don't have to worry about the awkward feeling of the voyage I don't think this is going to be a problem for for all people but I'm pretty small you guys a lot of you already know this this is not a big and heavy device by any means but there is enough of a difference here in terms of bulkiness where I have really started to favor The Oasis over the voyage most of the time I find myself using it out of the case I never have the case far away it's always very close by as this is your primary battery but this does feel really great have I switched away entirely from my voice voage not just yet I think that if one of these had to leave I would probably miss the Oasis more and I was not expecting this at all because the voyage has some features that the Oasis doesn't have such as this auto brightness sensor I didn't know if this is something that I could live without but during the daytime I don't usually have the auto brightness on as it is it's something that I usually just use during the night time because it adjusts the brightness to my eyes over time and I've always thought that that was pretty neat but is it a complete loss no no it's not so if you're somebody who doesn't have a Kindle yet go ahead and get the Oasis it's a great experience if you're worried about pricing and you don't care for the form factor go ahead and get the voyage for someone like me you probably are going to want to have both if you already have the voyage that way you can just work with different flavors that's kind of what these are this doesn't best the voyage and the voyage doesn't best this one it's just a very different experience it's like a person who wants to have a Nintendo 3DS the small size and then have the XL 2 because sometimes you like the bigger experience over the smaller one so for me I'd probably keep both of these that's my true answer right now but I'm seeing that as time goes by I'm using this more and more and this less and less so I can conceivably see myself yes switching to this one entirely so looking at the immediate differences this one makes more sense when you first look at this it's got that nice book form it's balanced in the hand and also you can control on both sides to turn the page so you don't have to do this flippy thingy with the Oasis you can use it in one hand or the other hand and that's something that if you're somebody who notices that you are constantly switching hands to turn pages you're probably going to be doing better with the voyage than the Oasis so if you're standing at the counter you can switch with this hand then use the other hand and switch to this hand so this just makes a lot of sense where this idea took me a little bit of time to get used to the accelerometer feature is really nice I think something that sold me over time was these actual pressable buttons these both have hardware buttons although these are capacitive but these pressable buttons have a really nice feedback to them plus you can switch the order underneath settings for people who have smaller hands I find that using the bottom button is easier for page turning the click is very much more sure here so when I turn a page I'm more confident about it I also don't tend to accidentally switch Pages as often as I did on this so these tactile buttons are a definite win Plus in the dark I know where these buttons are sometimes I wasn't sure in the dark if I was pressing the next page or the go back one so there are some definite pluses here this is more for the couch reader who likes to use both hands I think this is for the busy one-handed person or for somebody who need something that's lighter the unit on the front is glass just like we have with the voyage we have that etched glass and it's pretty antireflective I don't worry about either of these displays in direct sunlight the body on this is a soft touch type of plastic for the battery compartment and then we have metal here and that's what lends to that premium feel this is a coated metal it seems very thin very cool to the touch on the top we have that charging port and the power button and then here are the Pogo pins where the battery case connects magnetically then looking at the differences in the body of the voyage you've got your capactive page turn buttons that you've got on either side you've got more of a chin down here to hold on to so this is the primary place that I would hold this device or I'd hold it at the left or right but there wasn't much here to hold on to so I always had a hard time kind of picking and choosing where I would put my hands and that is just not a problem anymore with the Oasis this spine lends perfectly to holding it in one hand and it sits really nicely then on the back you've got this soft touch and this little plastic visor here and your power button so this is not made out of metal though I'm sure inside the chassis is I think that they both feel premium just in different ways and then we have the cases most of the battery is in this case you cannot charge this case by itself it looks to me when you charge this that it charges the unit first and then it starts charging the battery once the unit is full together this is really nice and balanced and in practice I really like this what I have lost though now is my origami case's ability to stand up so this has really become a one-handed device I always need to have my hands on this to support it whereas with the origami case on this I would sit inside Starbucks and just have this sitting on the table as I drank my tea and then I could switch a page here and there and that really worked for me so this is a very very different experience I could conceivably see somebody doing this and changing the orientation but it's just a bit awkward see that I've got a couple different colors here this is the black one and the Mero one this one's so hard to get I have to thank Amazon PR for sending this one to me so I could take a look at it now I don't have the Walnut case on hand but you you can see that there's different textures here between the Black Version and this Mero one now looking at the Mero I think I would like the Walnut just as much the case itself is made out of leather there is no vegan option which has left a lot of people sore but this feels like a very nice well-built case and it's essential to the experience here because of how much smaller the battery is in here now the interface is the same as the other Kindle so there's really nothing to report here one thing that is Nifty is when you touch on this button here you can see the charge that you have between the Kindle battery and also the cover battery I don't know why this isn't an option on the voyage or any of the other ones only on here and once you disconnect this you see the battery information goes away but for the first time I'm able to see how much a charge my Kindle has and whether that's just simply a software feature or not I do like it a lot so how about display differences it's supposed to be the same display technology as the voyage except for the extra LEDs 300 pixels per inch on both of them they both look about equally as bright to my eyes although for some reason when looking at these it looks like the print is darker on the voyage it's as if there's more contrast on the voyage display that I've been seeing on any of the four Oasis units that I've seen maybe you can see the show it in b-roll every single one of them I've been able to see the LEDs very distinctly The Voyage is perfect I would put this down to a manufacturing issue and I don't know if they're going to fix this in the future but I've seen this type of thing happen with the Kindle paper white for example it was such a prominent issue that Amazon ended up calling it a feature so I hope that this isn't a feature but rather they will get better with their batch variations and Manufacturing process as time goes by but for right now you can expect to see these little light bleeding points for the most part the displays have looked pretty uniform though in color so that's been a good thing so the manufacturing process on this is not perfect I'd probably wait a few months out out and check again when I can get a hand on different stock see how that has affected the manufacturing process and the result I don't think that's something that's going to deter me from purchasing this though so before I wrap up this review I want to have a special section that talks about the case in terms of battery life and what the experience is with this battery case I can say right now that the case is a necessity you get about two we battery life Amazon claims with just the battery that's in here and you can extend it up to 9 weeks with this back cover saying weeks means nothing to me so I've been able to see what this can last for in terms of hours how many hours you can actually read but if you're somebody who is an Avid Reader it's not going to be a good idea to leave on the road with just this here people are saying that they're getting four or five hours of battery life depending on the brightness and if they have airplane mode on or off and that's really not too long so unless you want to be tied to a charger if you're an Avid Reader when you on the go don't forget your battery case plus it protects the thing note that you cannot charge this case by itself it needs to be connected to the reader in order to charge this is the only Port that's available the good thing though is that once you plug it in both charge at the same time it can be a little bit finicky but you you can see it's telling us right now that both the Kindle and the cover are charging at the same time the Kindle charges faster probably due to the smaller battery and then the cover will continue charging now I haven't had hours and hours and hours to read to see what the battery life would be like but there are plenty of people on Amazon reviews who have talked about this so I want to point out one that I found particularly interesting so he's kept them both connected and he would have bouts of reading where he'd read for several hours hours the unit would deplete and the cover would charge as it was depleting so he would read for 4 hours getting the Kindle down to 90% the cover down to 83% 3 hours 4 hours 3 hours 4 hours all these reading times down and down until eventually the Kindle had 53% battery and the cover was at 1% so he was able to time that as being 18 hours and 53 minutes with 53% left on the unit itself not in the so that's really not bad that's about the voyage in battery life and then some because there's still 53% left inside the battery inside the unit and I've been noticing that battery is pretty good I really haven't had anything to complain about though I really can tell a difference between the battery life when I have the cover connected and the battery life when it's not connected the annoying bit though is when the cover is depleted and you still have have a lot of battery life left on the unit the cover sits there complaining that it's at 0% and I don't want to charge it at that moment in order to get it to shut up you have to either disconnect the cover or charge the unit in which case the battery for the back cover starts to charge so that's something that's a little bit annoying but hey that forces you to keep the batteries healthy because it's not good to let the cover sit down at 0% battery anyway lithium ion batteries don't like to at 0% so once you start getting that battery indicator please charge just charge it I suppose I just wish that there were buttons or something on here or an extra charging port so I could charge that case separately I doubt there's anything that Amazon will do about this or that they can do about this but that's just something that I wanted to point out and of course there is the price this is one pricey little dish I did the math I added everything up and it looks like essentially Amazon is charging you for the device and also an origami leather case for instance if you add all that up it equals almost the same amount as the Oasis does included with this kit so the price isn't way out there when you look at what Amazon is doing right now there's just a more modular aspect where you can choose to buy the unit separately you're not forced to buy the case with it pricey little dish I did the math I added everything up and it looks like essentially Amazon is charging you for the device and also an origami leather case for instance if you add all that up it equals almost the same amount as the Oasis does included with this kit so the price isn't way out there when you look at what Amazon is doing right now there's just a more modular aspect where you can choose to buy the unit separately you're not forced to buy the case with it that's really what's Happening Here you guys overall this is a wonderful experience and I really like this a lot the more and more I use it the less and less I use my Voyage though I still love this I have a connection to it and I will not get rid of it I can't but it's probably going to get to a point where this is my sole reader so you could probably fairly say that yeah I switched from the voyage over to the Oasis so this is all that I want to say for now if you guys have any questions ask them in the comment
