AKG K553 Pro Studio Headphone - Closed Open Back

**Open-Back Headphones Review: Gro Audio Labs Gro Sr 325 E**

As an audiophile, I was excited to test out the open-back headphones from Gro Audio Labs, specifically the Gro Sr 325 E. These headphones are designed with a unique sound signature that is both detailed and immersive, making them perfect for music lovers, gamers, and anyone looking for a high-quality listening experience.

**Sound Stage and Sound Quality**

I was able to test these headphones against their competition, including the Sennheiser HD 400 Pro and the Audio-Technica M50x. I listened to a wide range of music, including rock, classical, hip-hop, techno, dubstep, percussion, Jazz, electronic, death metal, top 40, and more. The Gro Sr 325 E's sound stage is excellent, with good bass response, detailed midrange, and clear highs. The sound is very immersive, making it perfect for gaming, music listening, or even just relaxing.

One of the standout features of these headphones is their ability to create a sense of space and distance. The soundstage is open and expansive, making it feel like I was right there in the studio with the artist. This is especially noticeable when listening to complex tracks with multiple instruments and layers. The bass response is also impressive, with good depth and control. However, the highs are not the strongest aspect of these headphones, lacking a certain sparkle or dynamic that I've come to expect from top-tier headphones.

**Build Quality and Comfort**

The build quality of these headphones is excellent, with a sturdy metal construction that feels premium in the hand. The design is sleek and modern, with a unique open-back design that allows for maximum airflow and comfort. The ear cups are made of a soft, memory foam material that cradles my ears comfortably, while the headband is adjustable and padded for added comfort.

One area where these headphones fall short is in terms of cushioning. While they're not too heavy to wear for extended periods, I did experience some discomfort after several hours of listening due to the relatively thin ear cushions. Additionally, the ear cups don't come with any foam inserts or padding to prevent pressure points.

**Cable and Accessories**

The cable on these headphones is a gold-plated e-in plug, which should provide good durability and connectivity. The headphones also come with an adapter that allows you to connect them to quarter-inch jacks, making them compatible with most devices.

Unfortunately, the headphones don't come with any carrying pouch or storage bag, which would have been nice. However, they do fold flat when closed, allowing for easy storage in a backpack or other container.

**Gaming and Mod Microphones**

One of the unique features of these headphones is their compatibility with mod microphones, such as the Blue Yeti or HyperX QuadCast Gaming Microphone. The open-back design allows for easy placement of external microphones on the ear cups, creating a more immersive gaming experience. This feature should appeal to gamers who want to take their online multiplayer experiences to the next level.

**Specs and Conclusion**

In terms of specs, these headphones have a 32 ohm impedance and 114 dB sensitivity, making them compatible with most devices without the need for an external amplifier. The weight is relatively light, at just 10.75 oz (304g), making them easy to wear for extended periods.

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the Gro Audio Labs Gro Sr 325 E headphones. Their unique sound signature, excellent soundstage, and comfortable design make them a great choice for anyone looking for high-quality open-back headphones. While they may not be perfect – lacking in certain areas such as highs and cushioning – these headphones are definitely worth considering for music lovers, gamers, and anyone who wants to take their listening experience to the next level.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enall right so Logan's out of town that means I get to do a headphone review these are the k553 pros from akag just came out at Nam 2015 these are brand spanking new I think I'm the first person on the web to have them in my hand they are closed back circum oral reference design monitors meant for mixing producing mastering that kind of stuff they uh have a really nice base they're usually very analytical for reference monitors very flat these do have a bit of base and I believe that is for people who are you know producing contemporary music basically if you're doing some sort of electronic music or some like dubstep or some hipop and you need to be able to take a detailed look at the base these are excellent for those and I think that's kind of who they're pointing them towards they're 199 bucks so in their price range you're also looking at a lot of other great headphones you're looking at Audio Technica M50 X's you're looking at the Sr 840s from sure the be dynamic Pro custom ones I believe Sony MDR 7510 Beats by Dre Studios just kidding just just kidding uh what makes these stand out from those is that these have an excellent Sound Stage they almost sound as open as open backed headphones do I even tested them against the U the dt990 be Dynamics and the uh Gro Labs or Gro Sr 325 e to see if they were as open and they're not as open obviously but they're way more open than the competition which is going to make them a really good gaming headphone if you want to do a antline mod mic it can stick right there you'll you get really good situational awareness because of that open Sound Stage and you'll also get boom boom effects for explosions and stuff as far as specs go they're 32 ohm and 114 DB sensitivity so they're going to plug in to basically anything a phone a tablet a laptop you don't need an expensive amp um you know they will sound better obviously through an amp but you don't need it they are very lightweight 10.75 o build quality I mean look at them they're beautiful they're a lot of metal here lot of metal a lot of metal they flip open so you can store them flat they don't come with a pouch or anything unfortunately but they do go flat like this not a lot of foam on the top or even on the sides it's very nice soft retension like memory foam it's really nice but there's not a lot of it but it's okay because they're so light you don't need that much uh foam padding and stuff now as far as fit goes I have a small head and I have big ears so for me they fit very comfortable the only thing is that inside the cups which are very nicely marked right and left uh my ears were hitting the inside and after about 3 hours which is actually how long I have on for in one stay without even taking them off my ears did begin to get a little sore but hey it's that two-minute breather take them off put them back on and you're good to go I think most people won't have an issue at all um they're really really nice as far as the cable goes you get a e in plug at the other end goldplated um and it does come with an adapter so if you want to go to quarter in it's a screw on adapter that you will not fall off all right lastly let's talk about sound and sound quality I listen to a whole bunch of music I listen to uh some rock and roll classical music hip-hop crazy techno club bangers some Ray Charles dubstep percussion Jazz electronic death metal top 40 uh and even some ree so lots of different music and I tested it uh I tested all of them with different types of music so I not only tested these with all these types of music I tested them against their competition so yes Sound Stage is excellent bass is really good it's very detailed very precise it's not boomy it's not loomy even for like a closed back supposedly what happens is is the base once it gets on the other side of the driver it goes into this little cup section here and it kind of just vanishes into the air so it doesn't bounce back and muddy up the rest of the bases coming out of the drivers so Bas was excellent mids to Upper mids fantastic as well vocals sound excellent on here sounded really really good um basically saxophones pianos guitars Spanish guitars all sounded great um I listened to some trinsky classical music it was beautiful actually got Goosebumps when I listen to the finale of one of the songs um and highs here's the thing probably not the best highs out of all of them they were really good and I don't want to say anything bad or detract from them because they are $199 and they're not $500 but I've been getting spoiled lately with these like really nice headphones there's they're they're bright the highs are bright uh they're not harsh but I feel like there's something missing I don't know how to describe there's a certain Sparkle or like Dynamic I don't know how to say there's something missing from them that's not there uh but beyond that they're excellent they are a little bit warmer than you'd think than reference monitors they're a little bit more uh more like a consumer friendly tonality to them it's like a a flatter it's not a super flat frequency response curve it's got a little bit of definitely got some Bas that I wasn't expecting and it so it's pretty good they're good for listening to music they're good for chilling as well they're not only for making music so they're really awesome headphones and uh yeah I got to say I really like these and if you're in the market for these These are killer because of the Sound Stage uh the sound is great but that present that image is excellent so yeah as always if you have any questions on them leave a message in the comments and uh yeah check them outall right so Logan's out of
