Welcome to Miracle Whips!
I'm comedian Byron Bowers, and I also happen to be an actor. And, as it so happens, I can read too.
So, what exactly is Miracle Whips? Imagine that you've met a genie. He doesn't grant wishes, but he does make one statement:
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Welcome to Miracle Whips.I'm comedian Byron Bowers. Also I'm a actor.I can read too. What is Miracle Whips, you ask?Imagine you met a genie, right? He don't grant wishes. But he said,"I'll give you that car"it's the only car you get to drive(nervous inhale)- Every week, I'ma driveone of my dream carsin search of my Miracle Whip.I want y'all there with me.Today I get to drive an R32 Skyline. This might be my Miracle Whip.(trap music)The Skyline GT-R is a car thatalmost everybody knows aboutbut not a lot of peopleget to experience it.These cars were never sold in the USbut thanks to The Fast and Furious,Initial D, and Gran Turismo, they've been the wet dreams of fanboysfor almost three decades.Within the past few years, this car,and other Japanese carswithin the same era, just turned 25.We can finally drive thecars that we couldn't getwhen we was teenagers.(trap music)The doors open.Oh my god!And I'm moved. My heart only does whatit does in Disney films.Man, this is beautiful, right here.- I met Byron, like, six years ago, when we worked for Adult Swim, and he drove a Porsche 944and I remember thinking,"Hey, this guy's pretty cool."Since then, he's driven, like, 50 different carsand I'm sick of keeping track,so were going to try and find him a carthat he can love forever.- The GT-R made a claim276 horsepower from it's twinturbo RB26 inline six engine..Paired with the all wheel drive system, the R32 does zero to 60 in 5.6 seconds. This was the most advancedcar in Japan at the time.At Nissan they made it a top dog.Nothing could test the R32 onthe road, or the racetrack.First impressions? Man,this is a good looking car.Hey baby, it's goingto be me and you today.I hope you like black people. Can this outrun the cops? It's a statement, sophisticated. How do I say the last name?Tommy--- Tommy Kaira.- Tommy Kaira.- This is a Tommy Kaira R32 Skyline GT-R.They designed the original front bumper, hood, the wing and thenall the small detail, the dash, cages.- I feel like I'm takingyour daughter to the prom.Designed in the 80s, so it's square, but, since it's a GT-R, itgot really nice box flares. That's my box flares.Man, in person, thiscar's way more beautifulthan I thought it would be.I seen these cars a milliontimes, photos, film. You know what it's like? It's like seeing JenniferLopez in real life. She look good on thescreen, but in real life, you're like, "Oh, I get it, I get it."I'm actually a little nervousabout driving this car.Like, if I don't like it,it's going to be really disappointing.Let's drive this bitch.(hip hop music)Alright, we're getting onto the freeway. You can hear the turbos now.(whoops)That first pull, the lag, and the sound?(whistles)This car has so much turbo lag,you had to think totally differentthan if you was in a newer car.It literally wants to be drivenon the edge the entire time.(whoops)I'm a grown-up, and thisSkyline is a needy 25-year old.Fun, willing, but needy.Look, I don't want to go dancingwith your friends tonight,it's Wednesday, don't yougot to go to school tomorrow?I got work in the morning, I pay taxes.I'm not on my parent's insurance.(engine sound)We're riding it now.I got an open stretch on the route?I'm getting it.(makes engine sound)This car is checking off all the boxes. It's raw, it's driver-oriented,and it's simple.Right hand drive is tough, you think you've got aton of room over there, turns out, you halfway in the other lane.I used to hate those roll indicators, like those, on the side of the road,I appreciate those now, because it lets you know, like,"Hey, you drifting toofar left," you know?It handles tight, though.Surprisingly, the hardest part aboutdriving a right-handdrive car, is the blinker.I was getting confused. It's weird to shift the gearsin the opposite direction. It takes some getting used to.If this was a snowboardit would be considered riding goofy,on the left hand it sortof helps a little bit, just a little bit.I can't believe I'm in this car.(hip hop music)We pull of the PCH to take a breather. How are things going, so far?(whoops)I always want to go old schooland get the dirt off the wheels. They going well.Honestly, I'm super impressed. The car's beautiful, itdrives great, it's fast,if you like driving cars, this is it.It handles well, it accelerates fast, and when the turboskick in, you get scared.Your eyes get bigger, yeah, once that turbo kick in,it's like, "Uh oh, uh oh."I'm a little concerned withcomfort, will girls like it?And actually, driving thiscar every day, can I do it?Can I be in the middleof two lanes every day? It's kind of exhausting,'cause I'm scared, but that shit is fun.On a lot of levels, it's exactlywhat I thought it would be,but, we talking about drivingit for the rest of my life.I think I need a little bitmore time to spend with it,before I can make a decision.(80s pop music)We parked this car in themiddle of the parking lotat Malibu at the beach, just to see who wouldstop and stare at it,and I was leaning up on the car, looking all gangster-like,and nobody stopped. For those in the know, it'sthe ultimate dream car.Yay, we're here!Yeah, yeah, I'm all about it.Yeah, you see how small this--hey, wait! For those who are not in theknow, it's a two door maximum.I got people passingme, I'm passing people, most people ain't even looking. It's like, "Come on,people, this is a Skyline!"You see what we're doing? He got a kid, so he might know. The outside is for them, the inside is for you.The interior is very driver-oriented.It's older, it's simple, but I like that.Oh man, this hugs your hip, look at that. It's like it's made to be driven fastand you can hit everything and keep going.Everything is simple here. There's less stuff to break, and there's less stuff to distract you. This thing don't evenhave an Oh Shit handlefor the passenger.I mean, they got to man up and take thesehorsepowers to the chest. There's a reason this car's a legend.Feels like I'm in Tokyo,1992, and I got a reputation. It just make me smile, I can't even talk,I'm just laughing. But, we talking about drivingit for the rest of my life.(dramatic horn blasts)Is the Tommy Kaira SkylineR32 my Miracle Whip? No, it's legendary, itlooks great, it's raw,but it's not that fun if you'renot taking it to the edge. The right-hand driverquirks are, honestly,a pain in the ass, andI would have to explainto 99% of the people why it's dope.I love this car, but I wouldhate to drive it every day,and I do not want to hate this car.So, I'm going to stay inlove with the R32 Skyline, but from far away, and I'mgoing to continue my searchfor my Miracle Whip.Yo, I want to give bigthanks to Auto Conduct, for helping us put this thing together.Auto Conduct is a series of car shows, basically, it's an automagazine that come to life.If you like the
