New Aston Martin mid-engined supercar, baby Valkyrie and Lagonda SUV - all you need to know
Aston Martin's Exciting New Lineup: A Mid-Engine Supercar, Baby Valkyrie, and Lagonda SUV
Aston Martin is set to revolutionize the automotive world with its new lineup of cars, which includes a mid-engine supercar, a limited-edition hypercar, an electric SUV, and a futuristic concept car. The first car in this lineup is the Aston Martin Vanquish Vision Concept, which previews the company's first mid-engined production supercar.
The Vanquish Vision Concept is set to go on sale in 2020 with a price tag of around £250,000, placing it firmly in the realm of high-performance sports cars. The car will rival the likes of the new Ferrari F8 and the McLaren 720S. The design of the production version of the Vanquish isn't likely to change much from this concept, with a similar sleek body and Formula One-inspired twin turbocharged V6 engine that produces around 700 horsepower.
One of the notable features of the Vanquish is its focus on on-road use rather than track driving. As a result, it will be built on a bonded aluminum chassis rather than using a more rigid and higher-tech carbon fiber tub. This approach allows for a lower weight and better handling, making the Vanquish an excellent choice for everyday driving.
The second car in Aston Martin's new lineup is the AM RB Double O 3 Hypercar, which is a partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing. The Double O 3 uses F1-inspired V6 turbo technology to create a mid-engine hypercar that competes with the likes of the McLaren Senna. What sets the Double O 3 apart from its competitors is its use of hybrid power, which boosts performance even further.
The Double O 3 will be limited to just 500 units and will offer active aerodynamics called Flexi Foil, which allows for dynamic airflow management. This feature also includes a Formula One-style sealed lubrication system that enables the engine to be changed in just 90 seconds - quicker than a Halfords employee can fit a windscreen wiper.
Another exciting car from Aston Martin's lineup is the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept, which previews an electric SUV. The concept features an all-terrain capability and offers active aerodynamics for improved performance on both dry roads and off-road terrain. However, Aston Martin hasn't revealed much information about the power range or charging times of the Lagonda.
Interestingly, the Lagonda has a viewing platform that allows passengers to survey their surroundings while seated in the car. The concept also mentions "search" as a means of describing the futuristic design, which could easily be imagined on the surface of Mars rather than on a mountain road in Scotland.
Finally, Aston Martin unveiled its first-ever running prototype of the Valkyrie, a mid-engined hypercar that boasts a V12 petrol engine producing 1000 horsepower at 10.5 thousand rpm. The addition of electric motors boosts the total output to an impressive 1160 horsepower.
