Jailbreaking the iPhone 3G on iOS 4: A Step-by-Step Guide
Hey guys, David from Unlock.com here today we're going to show you how to jailbreak the iPhone 3G on iOS 4, also known as the iPhone OS 4. If you're not already there, head over to Unlock.com and search for "how to jailbreak the iPhone 3G on iOS 4" procedure.
Before we begin, a few things need to be understood. This is only for the iPhone 3G, not the 3GS or newer models. Also, this will work on all basebands up to 5.13.18. We're going to download iTunes 9.2 if you don't already have it. We have links here for the different operating systems: 32-bit Windows, 64-bit Windows, and Mac.
We also need to download Red Snow, which is the jailbreaking program that we're going to use. We also have links for Windows and Mac. Then, you're going to download the iPhone iOS 4 firmware files for the iPhone 3G. The link is right there, okay? First things first, we need to install iTunes so you'll have your iTunes setup file. You're going to double click that and then follow the prompts to install or upgrade your iTunes to 9.2.
Okay, now we have iTunes 9.2 installed. We're going to plug in our phone. Now that it's plugged in and it's synced with iTunes, we're going to right click the Red Snow zip file extract all. Wait for that to finish extracting. Double click the folder and then right click Red Snow and click run as administrator if you're using Windows Vista or higher.
Once Red Snow opens, you're going to click browse. You're going to find the iPhone 4.0 restore file that you downloaded. Make sure it's for your phone 1.2 at the beginning, means it's the 3G. Once it says successfully identify, we're going to click next. Let it patch the kernel Etc. Then, you want to install Cydia, enable multitasking, enable home screen wallpaper, enable battery percentage. Hit next and get the next screen on in Red Snow. It's going to tell you to make sure that the phone is off. So, we're going to do that. Sit there and turn the phone off wait for it to turn off.
Okay, now that it's off and it's still plugged in, you can click next in Red Snow um but have the iPhone in your hand cuz it's it's going to actually you to start pushing some buttons. Okay, now I'm going to click next in Red Snow while I'm holding the phone tells you to hold down power for 1 2 3 seconds without releasing it start holding down home 6 5 4 3 2 1 now let go of power but keep holding home and keep holding it still counting down 21 20 19 18 and then once the screen changes in Red Snow you can let go. Okay, Red Snow will say that it's done and that the rest of the process takes place on the device so you'll see this little symbol kind of going on your device just wait for it to finish.
Okay, once the phone reboots you should be on jailbroken iPhone uh OS 4. So, we're going to slide over so long as you can see Cydia there you know your jail broken enjoy!
