The Ultimate Overkill Gaming Monitor

The 49 Inch Samsung QLED Gaming Monitor: An Overkill Monster?

Hey guys, this is Austin, and I'm excited to show you the most overkill gaming monitor of all time - the 49 inch Samsung QLED Gaming Monitor. As you can see, it's a beast of a machine that's sure to turn heads.

Wait, how am I gonna do this? (groans) Hey guys, this is Austin. And this very well might be the most overkill gaming monitor of all time. This is the 49 inch Samsung QLED Gaming Monitor. Do not open here. Open opposite side. (laughs)

I have to say, setting this up was a bit of an adventure. I had to deal with a bracket to mount it and a ton of cables that seemed to be everywhere. Wow, all right. I think you should really say something when the monitor stand is bigger than most other monitors by themselves. Dude, this is so heavy. It's like everything about this monitor is what you expect to see, except twice as big and twice as ridiculous.

Oh! It's so heavy. (laughing) Did I mention that this is a curved monitor? (laughing) What am I doing? Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on. How are you supposed to do this? I don't even have enough room here. And now we've got the full 32 by nine QLED Gaming Monitor out of the packaging.

This... I feel like a kid in a candy store. I just can't believe that someone made a monitor this big and powerful. It's crazy! Okay, let's take a closer look at how it performs. First up, we have GTA 5. This is one game that seems to support the full aspect ratio. Let's see if it makes a difference in gameplay.

GTA 5 is actually kind of impressed by how well games are supported by this monitor. It's not going to be that crazy to drive, even with this massive display. And with freesync, you're going to get those extra smooth frame rates on an AMD graphics card. Next up we have DiRT 4, which I think is a great racing game for something like this.

The menus don't support the full resolution, but I'm hoping the game does. If it doesn't, I'll be really disappointed. But so far, so good. This is actually taking up my whole field of view and making me feel like I'm right in the middle of the track. Yeah, this is totally perfect.

I just want to say that someone at Samsung did an amazing job with this monitor. It's not something that most people will ever buy, but it's still really cool to look at. So does anyone actually need a 49 inch gaming monitor? Of course not. But I will say that it's not as impractical as I thought it would be.

It's gonna be a little bit unwieldy and you do have to have a pretty decent PC to drive it, but it's actually really pretty well done. So if you're in the market for a new gaming monitor, this might be worth considering. But for now, let me know what you think about this overkill monster in the comments below.

Oh no! Oh no! No! Don't wreck the truck! Don't wreck the truck! No! (laughing) Oh yeah. So, I guess that's it for today. Thanks for watching and I'll catch you in the next one.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Wait, how am I gonna do this?(groans)Hey guys, this is Austin. And this very well mightbe the most overkillgaming monitor of all time. This is the 49 inch SamsungQLED Gaming Monitor.Do not open here.Open opposite side.(laughs)I have to do that whole thing again now?I just saw there's a littlelabel on the side of the boxthat this is Samsung DeX compatible.Yeah, of course, what elsewould you wanna connectyour Galaxy S8 to, other thana 49 inch gaming monitor.I'm gonna have to setthis down for a second.Woo! That's better. So we get what looks likea bracket to mount it,as well as a ton of cables.Wow, all right.I think you shouldreally say something whenthe monitor stand isbigger than most othermonitors by themselves.Dude, this is so heavy. It's like everything about this monitor iswhat you expect to see, except twice as bigand twice as ridiculous.Oh! It's so heavy.(laughing)Did I mention that thisis a curved monitor?(laughing)What am I doing?Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on.How are you supposed to do this?I don't even have enough room here. And now we've got the full 32 by nineQLED Gaming Monitor out of the packaging.This...I feel like I'm just repeating myself, butthis is the most ridiculous thing ever.I mean, look at that.Oh! Oh!This is a wall bracket. You know, when you wanna mountyour 49 inch gaming monitorto the wall.Hey Jimmy.- Yeah?- Can I borrow you for a second? Are we secure right now?- Yeah.- Is this going to breakwhen I try to pick it up?- Jimmy certified it.- All right, Jimmy certified. This is actually the firsttime that a product hasbroken our filming area. It's literally just too big.Like, it just doesn't fit anywhere. So around back, not onlyare you getting a pairof HDMI ports, but you'realso getting display port, mini display port, audioin, audio out, as well astwo more USB 3.0 ports. But the real star of theshow is well, this side. So, with everything setup you can see that this, this is something special. So the resolution ofthis guy is 3840 by 1080.So you can essentially thinkof this as two 1080 monitors. So to take a couple ofwindows here, I easily haveenough room for say, that, throw up a web browserover on this side. There's just so much room for activities.(laughing)Okay, well, so one ofmy questions with thiswould be do any games actuallysupport this ridiculous32 by nine aspect ratio? As you can see, CS:GO kind of does.I don't know why it's slowlyexpanding out here, butwe've got it for the most part. This is ridiculous. So, in a game like CS:GOyou're seeing that, especially on the edges,it actually looks likeit's almost a bit of a fish eye effect. But that is so trippy.I feel like I'm almost playing this in VRjust because it completelytakes up my peripheral vision.Making things even betteris that not only doesthis support 144 hertzrefresh rate, which reallydoes sort of add to theimmersion, but it alsois a freesync enabled display. So right now I'm playingon a little bit ofa lower end system withan RX480, but I'm stillgetting like, 140-150 frames per second.Definitely enough tosaturate the monitor and...Oh! It's so cool!Especially in CS:GO, youcan see it; some thingsare a little bit oddly shaped. For example, the map andsome of the HUD elementslook a little bit warpedjust because they are sostretched across such a giant monitor. But that's a small priceto pay for having somethingthat looks this awesome.Next, we have PUBG.However, there's a problem. Not only is his head slightly cut off,but the settings menu doesn'texactly work on this monitor. So let's see if this actually will work. All right, so in the gameit seems like everythingis running reasonably well.I will say though, that it is very obviousthat this a crop.So even though we're runningat the full resolution, you can see that like, a lotof the bottom and the topof the screen have been cut off.So instead of getting somethingthat's wider we're actuallyjust getting somethingthat's been sort of chopped. But I'm curious to see how that actuallyaffects game playing. That crop is actually really serious.I'm basically only seeingfrom his shoulders up.You know, for a game likePUBG, yeah, it's probablynot gonna be the end of the world. It is nice to be able tokinda see a little bit ofa wider field of view, butit's not quite that sameexperience without beingable the pull out the POV.I get it, they don't wannagive people an unfair advantageby having a super widemonitor, but I also don't likethe idea of having somuch of this cropped.Performance-wise though, it's not too bad. With this system, we didcrank it down to low settings, but because we have freesynceverything is pretty smooth, even though we're around40 to 50 frames per second.I can't get away from the ideathat this looks really cool.Oh, oh no!Oh no! No!Don't wreck the truck!Don't wreck the truck! No!(laughing)Oh, this is fun.Oh, yeah.So now we have GTA 5 andactually again, this is a gamethat does seem to supportthat full aspect ratio.I'm actually kind of impressed by how wellgames are supported by this.So not only is it kinda cool to be able toget that wider field of view, but you alsohave to keep in mindthat it's not going to bethat crazy to drive.Sure it is a very, verylarge monitor, but it's onlya 3840 by 1080 display. That's going to be wide, butit's really not going to bethat much more than somethinglike say, a 1440p monitor. And of course, withfreesync, if you do havean AMD graphics cardyou're going to be gettingthose extra smooth frame rates.Next up we have DiRT 4.Now I feel like a racinggame is really perfectfor something like this to getthat full widescreen experience. Now the menus don't supportthe full resolution, but I'm hoping the game does.If not, I'm gonna be really disappointed.Yes! This is so cool.Yeah, this is totally perfect.I mean, honestly, I keepmaking the comparisonwith a VR headset. But it does kind of feel like that.Obviously it's not thatfully immersive experience, but you're getting somethingthat is pretty muchtaking up your whole field of view. You know what? I'm gonnagive Samsung props. This is a ridiculous monitor.Very, very few people areprobably going to buy it.But, it's just cool.I'm just glad that someonejust decided, hey, let'stake a pair of super highrefresh rate monitors, glue them together andmake some giant monstrositythat actually is kind of cool. No, scratch that. It's really cool. So, does anyone actually needa 49 inch gaming monitor?Of course not. But, I will say it'sactually not as impracticalas I thought it would be.Yeah, it's gonna be a littlebit unwieldy and you dohave to have a prettydecent PC to drive it,but it's actually really pretty well done.So as always, the linkto check this guy outwill be in the description.I'm curious, what do you thinkabout this overkill monster?Let me know in the commentsbelow and I will catch youin the next one.
