Awesome Capcom NES Controllers from Retro-Bit - Works with LINUX! (and Windows_Mac_NES)

The Good People at Retron Bit Have Sent Me Out Two of Their New Capcom Themed Controllers for the NES

The good people at Retron bit have sent me out two of their new Capcom themed controllers for the NES. These controllers are some pretty slick and affordable options to play your favorite retro games and solve a few problems I have with the traditional format.

I'm Mles Vox here to make Tech easier and more fun today, taking a look at the Mega Man and Ghosts and Goblins themed dual link NES controllers from Retron bit. These controllers will work with Nintendo Entertainment System consoles or computers due to this dual link end at the end of the 6-t cable. A perfect length for TV gaming, by the way.

There are two plugs - One USB and one NES style connector. To be honest, it's a little weird having both of these hanging out whenever you need to just plug one in. The breakout portion looks like the NES connector plugged into it would have been kind of nice to just have a dunk but that would have likely made the price higher or have just been something that users lose so no big deal.

The overall format of the controller is standard - it's a rectangle, built well with no flex. The button layout is ever so slightly different, which is something that I appreciate. The start and select buttons are at the top instead of the bottom, which is a tad strange to be honest since it covers up the design on both of these models but I like them here also. The A and B buttons are convex instead of concave like the classic NES controller - I much prefer this convex design. I've owned a few generic NES and USB NES controllers along with this custom one that came with my Retron HD.

The buttons and directional pad on this retro bit controller aren't as clicky as some of the other controllers but they don't feel like they'll stick at all, which is an issue I've had with some of the others. They feel just a little too grippy. The buttons are comfortable and responsive oddly, the buttons on my Mega Man controller feel slightly more clicky than my Ghosts and Goblins one - don't know what's up with that.

The controllers worked right away by USB in both Windows and surprisingly Linux for emulators. I was quite happy to see this. They also seem to work fine with my Retron HD clone NES sadly, my original NES is out of commission right now but I'll have it fixed soon. I know that some of these generic controllers manage to get lucky and work with the PS4 but sadly, these do not so no play in Mega Man Legacy Collection with my Mega Man controller.

In short, this is a NIC looking controller that works well for a variety of situations - classic games come with a 6t long cable for under $20. The Mega Man design is my favorite which is yours it's that time of the year again, awesome shows like Silicon Valley and Game of Thrones will soon be in full swing on HBO don't miss an episode with the HBO add-on for your Amazon Prime video service you can watch your favorite HBO shows on any device no cable or satellite account necessary.
