MUD, LEAVES and WOOD CHIPS - Tree Surgeon’s Truck Gets an 8-Hour Detail _ Top Gear Clean Team

The Mitsubishi L200: A Workhorse of the Woods

Poor Jack's discovery of his work truck, a Mitsubishi L200, was a revelation. The vehicle, which Tom proudly called his "workhorse," had seen better days. With its bed covered in sawdust, mud, and oil, it looked like a disaster zone. Tom, a tree surgeon, had been using the truck for years, taking it on long journeys through the woods to load firewood and other materials. Despite its rugged exterior, the truck had become a makeshift office, with tools, equipment, and even snacks stored inside.

As Tom took Jack on a tour of the truck's interior, they discovered a treasure trove of hidden treasures. There were onions, potatoes, and even socks stuffed away in various compartments. The bed was a particular mess, with wood chippings posing a fire hazard and an onion lodged firmly in the corner. The air was thick with the smell of grease and oil, making it feel like a kebab shop in here. Tom, ever the optimist, joked that the truck had become his "takeaway."

The real challenge began when Jack started to clean out the truck. The dashboard was caked with grime, and the plastics were stained with a thick layer of dust. Tom reckoned it had been years since the last deep clean, and he wasn't sure where to start. But with some elbow grease and the right tools, they slowly began to make progress. They removed wood chippings, swept out sawdust, and even used a pressure washer to blast away the stubborn dirt.

As the hours ticked by, the truck began to take shape. The oil was almost gone, replaced by a gleaming white finish. Tom couldn't believe his eyes as he looked at the newly restored interior. "It's like it never left," he said, beaming with pride. Jack, who had been quietly observing the transformation, finally spoke up, saying that it had been a struggle to get the truck back in shape but was now looking better than ever.

The final reveal came when Tom brought the truck around for Joe and Jack to see. The reaction was immediate – gasps of amazement, tears of joy, and even a few "holy cow" moments. The truck had never looked so good, with its seats restored to their former glory and a soft, clean finish. It was like looking at two different vehicles altogether – the before and after of a remarkable transformation.

As Tom and Jack chatted about the truck's new appearance, they couldn't help but reflect on the journey that had brought it here. From the initial discovery to the final reveal, it had been a long and arduous process. But with determination, elbow grease, and the right tools, even the most disheveled of work trucks could be restored to its former glory.

The Importance of Keeping the Takeaway Out

One of the most pressing concerns that arose during the cleaning process was Tom's promise to keep the takeaway snacks out of the truck. With the freshly restored interior now gleaming in all its glory, it was hard to imagine the opposite scenario – a stinky mess with last week's pizza and yesterday's Chinese takeout scattered about.

Joe, who had been quietly observing the transformation, couldn't resist chiming in on this point. "You've got to promise us that," he said with a grin. Tom, still basking in the glory of his newly restored truck, laughed and promised to keep the takeaway out for good. It was a sentiment echoed by Jack, who had been quietly impressed by the transformation and now couldn't bear the thought of going back to its former state.

The truck's new lease on life was a testament to the power of determination and hard work. From the initial discovery to the final reveal, it had been a journey that would be remembered for years to come – a story of transformation, perseverance, and the enduring power of human ingenuity.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enpoor jack i think i found our lunch good morning good sir morning all right are you tom i am yes my name's tom and i'm a tree surgeon so i drive a mitsubishi l200 it's backwards and forwards in and out of woodland it's all over the place really and filthy dirty at the same time tom it looks like an absolute workhorse what is a day in the life of the l200 in and out of forest firewood loading them up sawdust everywhere mud oil picked out the chainsaw yeah okay anything else in there we should know about might be some onions or potatoes laying in there as well it might be growing in there what is the inside saying oh great i like my takeaways so fair to say you and the truck are a grafter do you mind if we have a look around yeah crack on cool oh it smells like a kebab shop in here that's it staining on this seat what do you reckon that might be probably just a buildup of grime and oil from the chainsaws i reckon there's a thick layer of dust over the dashboard and all of the plastics when do you reckon it was last cleaned in here i reckon that's probably built up from the last year and a bit i reckon year and a half i reckon since i've cleaned it he's telling polkas because there's animals in here oh yeah nice little spices web there's a lot in here let's have a look at that bed ah there's the oil we've got wood chippings that's a fire hazard why is there an onion in here don't worry about the onion why is there socks in there socks why we've got socks in here be fair i really don't know there's a lot of work in here this is going to be graft oh i thought we'd get away with it on the other side this side is caked it's not even nearly white no there's mud everywhere the arches these wheels oh just going breaking the bad news so i'm going to be honest there's a lot more work here than i thought there was going to be you brought off the forest with you i have yeah so we need you make yourself scarce for about eight hours we're up against it but we're gonna change your world right let's see if we can find some carpet under all of this mess poor jack i think i found our lunch you've been finding any mayonnaise in there i'll have a dig while we're in a decluttering mode i'm going to sweep out these wood chippings we want to do it while it's dry otherwise going to stick to the floor and make our lives even older thank you sir oh yeah it's all over me joe don't cry oh what a cat ollie hahaha now we've decluttered let's get the wheels and body work washed so time to tackle the trucks bed we've got mud we've got wood chippings we've definitely got some oil what i'm gonna do jump in there with a pressure washer and blow out what i couldn't remove with the broom now we've got about 90 of the dirt out it's time to tackle the really stubborn stuff we've got some oil in there and we've definitely got some mud left so we're going to use a strong degreaser spray it on let it do its thing for two or three minutes then scrub it with the broom ordinarily you would never use a broom on a car but this is a hard wearing surface so we're going to allow it on this occasion so jack that bed looks amazing however we're already three hours in i don't even feel like we've started the hard bit yet we've got to wet back the seats we need to deep clean the carpets what do you want to do the dashboard it's riddled with grime and i want to get stuck into that you're not wrong let's get it inside this job just keeps getting bigger i'll do a bit hoovering while you're on the seats now the bulkhead of hoovering's done we need to get to the hard to reach places top tip at home grab a soft detailing brush and it's going to allow you to tickle those air vents and get that dust that you never thought you could get so so as you can see on this door card here i'm using a magic sponge controversial but when you're working on a really hard durable plastic like this it's more than safe a bit of interior cleaner and some elbow grease and it really is the quickest and best way to pull up hardware in plastics joe we've got an hour and a half left i still need to wet back these seats you've got to do the carpets we've got to do the back end we're up against it mate joe tools down unfortunately time is up mate could have done with another eight hours on it easily i just hope tom can see it because we have put in a shift on this see what he thinks good evening tom how are you i'm good thank you good good you're looking in much better shape than we are been a struggle oh has it been a struggle he said yeah yeah i honestly thought we got so lucky and then it just got worse and worse and worse i'm not surprised what's the important bit for you to see on the truck seeing it back to us former glory probably and uh them seats car they were a stake they were challenging but proud of how they've come out to be honest we'd love to show you the truck are you ready i'm ready oh wow i've never seen it like that that's incredible is it the same vehicle it's shining it's actually white that's insane there was so much sawdust and crap and oil the oil's gone that's that's amazing oh my god that is incredible i didn't think i'd ever see the real colour in these seats again tom what do you think it is absolutely amazing i didn't think i'd ever see it back to this again good appreciate that do you promise to keep the takeaways out the truck i would definitely keep them out now it smells and looks lovely wonderful you\n"
