I'm Noah Kravitz from TechnoBuffalo, and I'm up here in Seattle for the Intel Appup Elements conference. But last night, I managed to escape the conference and went out to dinner with some of the folks from HTC. It was always fun to hang out with them, and their food was definitely pretty good.
But they knew what to bring - they brought some gadgets for us to play with. One of them was the Amaz 4G, which is one of the phones that T-Mobile launched earlier in the week at the Mobilized conference in San Francisco. Our own Emily Price was there and got some Hands-On time with the Amaz 4G at the cocktail party after the event, but wasn't able to get any video. So, I managed to get some video last night.
The lighting conditions weren't the best, being in a dimly lit hip sushi place, but hopefully this is coming through okay. The Amaz 4G goes on sale October 10th online and October 12th in stores for $259.99 after rebate with a 2-year contract. It's definitely not cheap, but it's pretty high spec stuff.
You've got Android Gingerbread preloaded on the phone, which is one of the newer versions that I think will really start to take flight in the US next year. The phone has a dual core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S3 processor under the hood, which is what powers the whole thing. One of the big selling points for this phone is its camera - it's got an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash on the backside, and can record full 1080p HD video.
It also has a front-facing camera for video chat, which is always useful. You've also got a QHD display of 540 by 960, which is really high quality. And, of course, it's NFC radio capable for mobile payments. All that stuff should be taking flight in the US next year, but I think we'll see more of it ramp up next year.
The Amaz 4G is also one of T-Mobile's first HSPA plus 42 capable phones, so in real-world conditions you won't be getting 42 megabits per second on the regular using this thing. But T-Mobile is talking about eight or so megabits per second regularly, with bursts up to 20, which is impressive.
If you have good coverage on T-Mobile's high-speed network - and I can attest that it works really well for me in the San Francisco Bay area, for sure - then this phone should be able to take advantage of those speeds. Anyway, there you go - my first Hands-On video with Emily's Impressions and photos from earlier in the week. For more on the Amaz 4G, head over to TechnoBuffalo.com.
