50 Pounds of Rust and A Ugly Paint job Later Our Classic Mini Cooper Takes it To The Next Level

My Favorite Color Scheme: A Comprehensive Build Project

As you can see, my favorite color scheme consists of three primary colors: gray, blue, and black. These colors dominate my car collection, with each vehicle showcasing a unique variation of these hues. The Clown Shoe, despite not being one of mine, is an impressive example of this color scheme in action. I'm particularly fond of the Destroyer Gray used on this latest project, which gives it a sleek and esteemed appearance.

The interior design is also a crucial aspect of this build, with plans to incorporate a rich chocolate brown color that will complement the exterior nicely. The exact shade has yet to be decided upon, but I'm confident that John's expertise will bring out the best in it. As for the front bumper, I'm still undecided between Chrome and blacking it out, but the car's overall appearance is shaping up to be a stunning representation of my signature color scheme.

This Mini Cooper project has been an exciting journey so far, with many hours already invested into bringing it back from its worn state. The bodywork alone required tens of hours of labor from Joey, who did an outstanding job in rectifying the numerous issues that plagued this car before its transformation. The Upp cowl area was particularly challenging, as it had developed a massive rot hole that threatened to compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. Fortunately, Joey's expertise proved equal to the task, and the entire area is now solid and straight.

The rear quarters also received a thorough makeover, with much of the original rusted-out material replaced with new panels. This was just one aspect of a comprehensive overhaul that included replacing various components such as suspension parts, bearings, tie rods, and shocks – all sourced from Jet Motors. The progress has been impressive, and I'm eager to see how everything comes together.

In terms of wheels, we're taking an unconventional approach with the 10-inch conversion. These tiny wheels will provide a unique aesthetic that's sure to turn heads. To accommodate them, we've had to modify the braking system, which includes new stainless lines, rotors, and pads. The end result promises to be a visually striking combination of small wheels and powerful engine.

The turbocharged Mini Cooper engine is currently undergoing installation, marking a significant turning point in this project's development. While I previously considered swapping it with a K-car engine, I've decided to stick with the original setup. This will give me the opportunity to showcase the capabilities of this particular engine, which promises to deliver impressive performance and handling.

As we near completion, I'm keenly aware that there are still many details to attend to. Joey has promised to wet sand and buff the bodywork once it's finished, ensuring a showroom-quality finish. The floors, which were previously Rhino-lined and painted over, will be replaced with new glass, further enhancing the car's overall appearance.

In the coming episode, we'll delve into the final stages of assembly, including installing the doors, gaskets, and glass. With each new development, I'm becoming increasingly excited to see this project come together. Join me next week as we bring this Mini Cooper build to a thrilling conclusion!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys rich with Rich rebuilds here and today we're going to be restoring my 1969 Mini Cooper now I've had it in storage for a few years and I think it's finally time to give it some love now first things first I started off by getting the car off the toy shelf that I had it on for 2 years then we stripped the whole thing down removed the engine the interior and when we started pressure washing the exterior we found that the paint wasn't in the best condition the engine unfortunately also had low compression now in this episode we'll be picking back up where we left off we have to strip all the cancer off the body and give it a new lease on life let's get back into things I mean hopefully it doesn't take it too long I know it's not as small as that but no the only thing that sucks like I said with the amount of work that they had done to it yeah that's what takes so much longer like getting this to come out is a because that's been on there probably 23 years Yeahs yeah one day later want to want to get this with the Jack guy so here she is they just got sand blasted and this Joey said it's really not as bad it initially suspected uh that dent kind of stinks nor you pull the dents then put a little bit of Bondo over it to even it out I think they just got it dented and just put half a gallon of Bondo on it but a lot of this stuff really isn't that bad there's some issues over here don't know what those two holes are for there's still some residue from uh some duct tape that we had on there he did the floors told him not to do the floors but he did them anyways this front fender isn't too bad they did some patch work on the front there an issues here a couple things I do wish well John was saying this that he did this upper trim piece but he did not but that's okay uh he wanted to take his time clearly he didn't want to blow holes in the actual car this is kind of risky because he was using metal media and not you know sand so uh This is highly corrosive and it could cause big issues what are we doing here we go that was Joey by himself thanks for nothing John sorry look at this you all right fine I was just grabbing my glasses the ground well we made our Mickey Mouse Booth m damn I love this DIY paint booth you love it love it I actually like the color too I'm not going to lie what is it what what are you telling me it's many months later what U-Haul didn't tell you is their actual ramp size to taking this thing out of here so this is about 50 this is going to be a tough one getting over because the wheels are all towed and cambered out and all messed up so it actually goes out a bit further than it should I really don't know if it's going to fit in the truck or not so the rivan's great but its inability to always do what I needed to do due to the lack of charging infrastructure isn't exactly ideal but the trusty Toyota is always game to do all the things except for right now because Winter's coming in the Northeast and it needs new tires but thankfully Venom power can handle it in a pinch I can check out priority tire and search what they have that's capable of whatever I throw at it with a darn good price too because you know I am a bargain hunter in every way possible for a good deal I mean look at the tread on these things they clearly have the Venom power inside of them not only that but since you want tires that can actually handle rough terrain and not just regular rubbers you can head over to get 10% off Venom power tires or 5% off anything at priority tire and this is good to the end of February so recycle those old rubbers and maybe one day they'll end up in a kid's playground okay don't forget to head to Priority tire for your tire needs how you feeling good excited to getting here excited too it's been a long time coming this is yeah antique plates too yeah leater yeah VTE this is so cool I mean let's just take it for a quick spin what's the big deal the keys are in it just hot wire it just get too wi I mean how hard can this be wow it fits in there really well too many months later love that and of course how much is this for what H 100 is it really that much yeah I was going to say all the parts you're putting in the thing it'll be coming probably almost worth about the same I figured it was probably worth like 40 I wish they did just drop 40 Grand so I guess you got to buy one now at 60 the Lost is 40 the Lost is 40 lost is 40 how long does it go on a charge 300 three something that's not bad really I think we should be able to get home well I'll get home you get like yeah you'll get home you might not what else you can oh I should have we got a hood we got that another door well that should slide right in the back seat the second the second door fit oh it's getting close right I'm still trying to get over this weird cave in the middle of it dude that door that I used to hate that thing that's got to be the most awesome thing time yeah I put my kids dirty socks in there all kinds of gross stuff I slept in there once on a road trip yeah actually if you just put stuff down over the top can you shut the door though if anything will break this the door can't close did you uh pay Kyle yet yeah you owe me you owe me more here you can do it oh okay I got two stickers here from electrified garage give them those sign sign them give it to them give them to your dad put them on eBay one for your dad so yeah he tagged you and you never say anything I said oh yeah I'm working on Rich the famous the famous YouTu youber Rich who tag me him in what in Facebook it was like a Mini Cooper page in uh oh he's like a what' you say a DCL class that's his that's his side Channel yeah it's just a glorified Tundra that's all uh Tacoma Honda R line you know what Rich does that light come out in the door what light open the door oh oh it does have a little thing on it yeah this is like Rolls-Royce are we close Mr cameraman he doesn't care me so far think so maybe kind of works I'm used to um cars are a lot lower and they smash into it and they smash into it like Cuts around Loops back to the bottom of the the cage yeah and it's actually the main hoop was the only thing I didn't make I bent it I bent it more but that's actually out of a CRX the top the top of the roof rail is the same width I just had to make this bar here skinnier to go down and meet the floor so I was pretty pumped about that cuz the it's hard to bend a main Hoop Bar that's like one of the hardest parts of a cage where did you get this Dash from I like that smooth Dash so that is a mini sport Dash that's the bolts are really hard it get in and we'll talk yeah sure I'm worried yeah yeah three little guys in a small car let's do it it's a boat key oh it is my key is in my C10 right now so that's a spare key dude this is funny man I like that it'll display that's nice yeah it's it's probably a good good oh it's shirt holy fourth gear oh thank you you're going to get me in trouble get in the car okay okay okay okay all right boys and girls the car is freaking out it is there are 16 mil of range left preparing battery for fast charging I have 6 miles get to the destination and I am Towing something it says I will have 3 miles left when I get there okay so right now the car will not let me go over this speed going 66 65 and I have three miles left so oh boy thankfully this part's downhill I'm getting some good regen but uh if I miss this exit I'm done performance is limited right now come on they got four miles left baby is this one even working let's see which one works that one doesn't work that one doesn't work cool processing processing okay can't pay okay guys the rivan finally finished charging I finally got it to work after inserting my credit card 35 times and here is the final color for the Mini Cooper and yet yes this does have paint on it so don't at me and say when are you going to paint it uh you guys know this is my favorite color scheme my three favorite colors are as follows it's either gray blue or it's black all my cars are some variation of those colors uh the Clown Shoe that's black that's not even my car and it's black that's blue that's gray and the Z06 is blue as well so that's the overall goal to kind of have one of the cars that fit that color scheme I wanted this color and this is actually a a Dodge color believe it or not this is Destroyer gray you also know I like hellcats well well well uh but this is the color I decided on I actually like it it kind of makes it look very esteemed and I think once the interior is done the interior is going to be a nice chocolate brown I'm hoping when John finishes it it's going to accent it uh the car really nicely whether or not I'm going to do Chrome or I'm going to black out the front bumper I am not 100% sure yet but there is still a lot more work to do on the car uh it was actually kind of sitting outside in the rain so there's some water spots on it and you're also going to see a little bit of orange peel in the paint uh this car needs to be desperately wet sanded and buffed so I have all new gaskets I have all new glass for it as well floors uh were also uh Rhino lined and painted over it so the floors are now a lot more durable but this is a pretty pretty pretty pretty comprehensive build she already started the process of installing the lower control arms and all the new suspension work it's going to get new bearings all the way around uh new tie rods upper control arms uh new shocks and uh we got a lot of those parts from uh from jet Motors but I'll be talking about a lot of that in the next video uh now this bodyw work and I know I kind of romanticized a lot of it this bodyw work took Joey tens of hours who knows 10 20 30 40 50 hours who knows how much body work he put into it but it was a heck of a lot um he did a really good job all those holes are filled and gone uh that is now solid this was like rotted to the core before and up here in the Upp cowl area that actually had a giant rot hole there as well so he did a really really good job of straightening out uh these two rear quarters have to have black wheels on everything you know me so that's a quick preview uh of what it's going to look like I think it's going to look really really really cool uh you can't really get a feel for how that looks cuz it's so far off but just picture it sticking in the wheel a little bit more you know I like my black wheels hence black wheels black wheels and once again black wheels on the Z6 but either way uh we're super excited we have so much more to show you guys on this Mini Cooper I'm really excited with the progress we're making the turbo is currently going on uh the Mini Cooper engine right now I know you guys saw us uh whipping around in the uh the K swapped is that K swap D swwa whatever swap it was we were driving around in it it was a super blast and uh I kind of wanted to go in a different direction I think I want to turbocharge and build the original engine in this Mini Cooper itself so that's going to be coming soon so uh stay tuned in the next episode where we really start tying this thing together I didn't want you guys to you know to drag it out over a million billion trillion different episodes I kind of wanted you guys to have a little bit quicker gratification on it so this thing is coming along really well we're going to wet sand it by we I mean Joey he's going to wet sand it buff it by the time you see this next it's going to have all the suspension in then we're going to start the process of putting on the wheels gaskets doors and the glass so either way thank you for watching guys and I will see you all next weekhey guys rich with
