Blaze Prelude LBM 4-Burner Gas Grill Review _ BBQGuys Expert Overview

**Blaze's Prelude Grill Review: Performance and Features**

We recently had the opportunity to test Blaze's Prelude grill, and we were impressed with its performance and features. The first step in our testing process was to evaluate the grill's high temperature evenness using thermocouples to measure the temperature of each burner on high for 20 minutes. We found that the cooking grid average temperature was about 655 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a great number for a premium class grill. While there was some variance in temperature, it wasn't a significant issue at high temperatures.

Next, we put the Prelude through its paces with a barbecue guys fully loaded hamburger patty test. We grilled 24 hamburger patties across the preludes cooking grids and evaluated their outcome. The result was no problem for the Prelude - although as our thermocouples test previously showed us, the front is a little cooler than the middle and the rear, it wasn't a real game changer. All you have to do is let those burgers cook about another minute or so. It's not like we had to shuffle them around like musical chairs or anything like that to run the zone dividers through their paces.

We also grilled some cedar plank salmon while grilling some broccolini, a couple handfuls of sliced bell peppers, and a few red onions. The Prelude's heat zone dividers made this grilling test just about flawless. The toughest thing that you have to do is deciding which zone you want to be set to which temperature after that it's pretty much smooth sailing.

In addition to its performance, we also tested the Prelude's features. One of the features we liked was the double-walled stainless steel hood, which ensures the exterior of the grille's hood doesn't change color due to heat treatment during cooking. Keeping your outdoor kitchen looking shiny and nice for many years to come is a big plus.

Under the hood, we see bead-blasted cooking grids, which provide a small amount of tooth for cooking oil to stick and season the grids nicely. This means that these cooking grids will season faster and keep that seasoning longer than a smooth polished type grid would. We also appreciate the push and turn flamethrower style igniters, which are currently one of the best approaches to ignition on the market.

Each valve has an igniter, and between every set of burners there is a gas crossover channel so as long as you can light one burner you can light all the rest of the burners off of that one. This means that if somehow all of your valve igniters are in disrepair, no problem - Blaze has you covered with a flash tube that will carry a flame down the tube and to the burner for easy ignition without removing anything or even getting your hands dirty.

Another great feature on the Prelude is the stainless heat zone dividers, which keep each burner's heat from crossing to the zones of another burner. Simply put, these little workhorses make grilling various things at different temperatures at the same time a whole lot easier than your standard food shuffling method that happens with most grills.

Some other nice features on the Prelude include a removable warming rack, a full-width slide-out drip pan for easy clean-up, and if you're looking at the freestanding or cart model like the one we tested here, then the stainless steel cart has two removable side shelves giving you a smaller storage footprint if needed. Propane tank storage with a locking bolt to keep the tank secure is also included. And for added convenience, there is even a paper towel holder on the inside of the left side door.

Finally, Blaze's Prelude comes with a best-in-class lifetime warranty and a multi-user commercial warranty making it perfect for contractors of condos, multi-family dwellings, sporting areas, campsites, just about any other multi-user build-out. With its impressive performance and features, we have no hesitation in recommending the Blaze Prelude grill to anyone looking for a high-quality outdoor cooking experience.

always good to see to begin evaluating performance we first ran a series of tests with our thermocouples attached to the cooking grids this gives me some idea of what to expect during the actual grilling portion of our performance overview beginning with the low heat evenness test 30 minutes with all burners set to low and the cooking grid registered an average temperature of 230 degrees fahrenheit with all probes coming within about 30 to 40 degrees from the average that's as good as or better than most home ovens a plus next we ran an all burners on high 15 minute preheat test to give you guys an idea of what to expect at 15 minutes the cooking grid average temperature registered about 595 degrees that's where i like to see it if i can't sear a steak after a 15 minute preheat i've probably already moved on to a new project for our high temperature evenness test we ran all of the burners on high for 20 minutes and found the cooking grid average temperature to be about 655 degrees fahrenheit that's another good number to see during this test the furthest variance in temperature was about 60 degrees hotter towards the rear center of the cooking surface certainly nothing to cry about at high temperatures anyway and it's pretty average for a premium class grill with the science and numbers out of the way let's see some real world performance first the barbecue guys fully loaded hamburger patty test we put 24 hamburger patties across the preludes cooking grids and evaluated their outcome this was no problem for the prelude although as our thermocouples test a few rosemary and sea salt crusted flatbreads again this was not much of a challenge for the prelude now for an all-american meal and grill test we decided to throw some steaks and potatoes on the grill we did this and the prelude pretty much handed us back terrific lunch the potatoes were caramelized on the outside with a thin crispy crust and the centers were smooth and creamy almost like baked potatoes and the steaks seared nicely and even put on some very nice cross-hatched sear marks i'd say blaze's prelude grill receives very high marks for the performance portion of our test now
